Anna Ruth Doutt, UD retiree

Anna Ruth (Parsons) Doutt passed away at her home in Long Neck Sunday, May 5, 2024.

Ann was born in 1937 to the late Howard and Laura (Truitt) Parsons in Wilmington, spent her childhood in New Castle, and graduated from Newark High School Class of 1955. She began her career at University of Delaware IBM Center as a punch card operator and retired after 32 years in 1991, as manager of UD Computing Center. 

During her working years in Newark, Ann and her husband, Donald, were season ticketholders for UD football and enjoyed tailgating, and time with friends at Elks Lodge 2281. Ann Was also a member of Newark United Methodist Church. 

In retirement, Ann and Don divided their time between their homes in Long Neck and Clearwater, Fla.; they also enjoyed many cruises. After Don’s passing in 2009, Ann continued her winters in Florida. In Delaware, Ann was a member of Indian River Yacht Club and Long Neck Methodist Church. 

Until her illness, Ann took daily speed walks in either Long Neck or on the Causeway Trail in Clearwater, Fla. She loved time with family and friends. Ann enjoyed the sunshine, poolside or on the beach. She liked flip flops, a good book, a happy hour glass of pinot grigio, and a colorful sunset to photograph and share with friends. 

Cherishing her memory are her son, Dennis Smith (Linda); stepsons, Grant Doutt (Kathy) and Dennis Doutt (Ruth); Frances Bradway (Robert) and Ellen Doutt, who she called her special daughters; grandchildren, Nickalus Smith (Jessica), David Doutt (Tiffani) and Matthew Doutt (fiancée Melissa); brother, Richard Parsons; sister, Virginia Walls; niece, Leann Coulborne; and nephews, Howard Parsons, Barry Walls, Richard Walls and Robert Walls. 

Ann had loving hospice care in her home from Virginia, Frances and Jessica. 

Per Ann’s prior arrangements, there will be no viewing and services will be private. 

Memorial gifts may be made to Long Neck Methodist Church or a favorite charity.
