Slater’s big bat leads Cape past Seaford

May 9, 2024

Cape senior catcher Jay’Lyn Slater slammed two homers in the second inning to lead the Vikings past Seaford 17-0 May 7 at Bill Cordrey Field. The Vikings have won eight of their last nine contests, moving their record to 12-3.

Putting on an offensive show, Slater also added two doubles. She had three RBIs in the game.

Not to be outdone, Alivia Heers delivered five RBIs off a single, double and a homer.

Junior Ava Calciano pounded two doubles, garnering three RBIs. Designated hitter Eden Frederick picked up two RBIs off a slap single. Bri Windish hit two singles and collected two RBIs. Cape had 14 hits in the game.

Abby Marsh went two innings in the circle, striking out three batters while giving up just one hit. Sophomore Olivia Brittingham took the ball in the third and shut the door, striking out five and allowing just two hits.

“It was good win for us against Seaford,” said Cape coach Mike Tkach. “Going in, it was a game on paper we should win, and our girls did a great job jumping on them early and putting up 12 runs in the first two innings. It was a game that allowed us to rest Abby after two innings. We got to play players on the bench, players in different positions to see what they could do in case of an emergency. These players performed well with Olivia Brittingham pitching a good three innings.”

Shea Cooper led Seaford with two singles.
