U.S. Coast Guard station to welcome public for May 18 event

May 5, 2024

The United States Coast Guard Station Indian River Inlet will host an open house from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, May 18, at 39373 Inlet Road, Rehoboth Beach.

Throughout the day, the public will be able to tour the USCG’s local fleet of 47-foot and 29-foot search and rescue boats, explore the facility, participate in hands-on displays of USCG lifesaving equipment and learn about boating safety.

There will be kid-friendly activities as well. Personnel who work and live at the Indian River Inlet Station will be available to talk about the Coast Guard’s missions and respond to questions. First responders from the Delaware State Police and Lewes Fire Department will provide police and fire safety education and information along with hands-on first responder equipment displays.

BM1 Bradley Drebushenko, Indian River Inlet training officer, said, “The Indian River Station open house is the first since COVID, and we are hoping people will turn out to learn more about the Coast Guard, and how we prepare and conduct search and rescue, aid to boaters, boating safety and related missions.”

A recruiting team will be on-site for those interested in learning more about USCG careers.
