Painting sale proceeds to benefit Milton music and wind fest

Bill Warrell’s ‘Conference of the Birds’ on display thru April 23 at arts guild gallery
March 28, 2024

Milton Arts Guild’s Inspired by a Song exhibit will continue through Tuesday, April  23, at 107 Federal St., Milton, featuring artists’ interpretations of their favorite song title or lyrics.

Proceeds from the sale of “Conference of the Birds,” an original painting by Bill Warrell, will support the upcoming Milton New Music & Wind Fest set for Saturday, June 1. Presented by the Federal Street Arts Project and Milton Arts Guild in partnership with the Town of Milton, the family-friendly kite-flying event will include art and creative music. This year’s fest will feature a rare area performance by Maestro Marshall Allen, born in 1924, leading the legendary Sun Ra Arkestra, plus the premiere of “100 for Marshall,” created by T.K. Blue and Fontina Dixon for the occasion.

While the Milton New Music & Wind Fest is free to the public, the costs for the day are well over $10,000, a gift to the audience of Delmarva residents and visitors.

Warrell has had a long history with the Sun Ra Arkestra and modern jazz, as both an artist and presenter since 1976. The painting "Conference of the Birds” depicts musicians David Holland and Sam Rivers performing a duet in D.C. back in 1978, with Nick the Art Dog front and center.

The Milton Arts Guild gallery is open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Thursday and Friday, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday and Sunday.
