Frantic Frets Music and Antiques recently kicked off a brand-new acoustic open mic with a packed house at Gilligan’s Bar and Grill in Milton.

This new musical happening will take place from 7 p.m. until about 9:30 p.m., every Tuesday. Musicians of all genres and abilities are invited to play and are allotted time for two to three songs as available.

Microphones, percussion instruments and loaner guitars are available to use free of charge, provided by Al Frantic, owner of Frantic Frets Music and Antiques.

The Jan. 7 inaugural jam ran the gamut of musical instruments, styles and ages. From unusual instruments like the jaw harp to the concertina, there was something for everyone. Guitar-based music featured both covers and original pieces. There was also a great showing from young up-and-coming artists like Hope For Success and the Sticky Notes Band, which wowed the crowd with an original piece of music written by its 12-year-old bandleader.

Sign-ups begin at 6:30 p.m., and special consideration is given for kids who are out on a school night. The event coincides with Gilligan’s Taco Tuesday, which offers a variety of specialty tacos for $2 each. Attendees are encouraged to call 302-664-2874 to make reservations.

“We are thrilled with the turnout tonight at Gilligan’s. I was so surprised by so many different types of performances, and blown away by all the kids,” said Al Knight. “The crowd, owners, and staff here tonight could not have been more supportive. This is a home run for us, for Gilligan’s and our beautiful hometown of Milton. Thanks to Cheryl and Garry for supporting live music.”
