Bayhealth staff donates school supplies to Milton Elementary

October 2, 2016

The staff at Bayhealth has so much to be thankful for, which is why they’re constantly finding ways to give back to the community. The Bayhealth Care Management Department recently donated more than $300 worth of school supplies to Milton Elementary School.

The donation, which included backpacks, was made as part of Care Management’s Caring and Sharing program. Each quarter, the staff members give back to patients and the community. The program kicked off in February with Valentine’s Day cards and candy to patients in chemotherapy, continued with the department’s participation in the Middletown Relay For Life, and now includes the Milton Elementary School donation. The final act of caring and sharing of the year will take place with Care Management’s participation in the Southern Delaware Heart Walk.

Nurse Monica Morris, MSN, RN, CMSRN, said Care Management staff devotes their time quarterly to extend themselves and spread good cheer to patients and the community. “With the donation to Milton Elementary School, our staff donated all kinds of supplies to help with the school year in hopes of making it a special year for these kids,” Morris said. “We are so lucky to have so many wonderful things in our lives, we wanted to care and share with others. We’re hoping the supplies and backpacks help make the school year a success for the students.”

Care Management includes nurses, administrative staff, discharge planning specialists, assistant staff and social workers. These individuals help patients understand their health status and treatment options. They also coordinate the patient’s spectrum of post-hospital care.

Director of Care Management Barbara Little, RN, BSN, CCM, said this is just one example of how staff members are driven to care for the community. “By sharing in this small way, we hope to make a patient smile, allow them to know we care and help them through this rough bump in the road of life,” Little said. Care Management plans to continue the Caring and Sharing program in 2017.
