Unity of Rehoboth Beach will bridge the old year with the new at its annual burning bowl ceremony at 10 a.m., Sunday, Dec. 31. Located at 98 Rudder Road, Millsboro, Unity welcomes people of all faiths, lifestyles and interests to welcome 2018 in a sacred way.
"It's a very meaningful ceremony," said Sandy Souder, spiritual leader. "Before you make new year's resolutions, it's a good idea to release what no longer serves you and might inhibit your success. We'll write down what we want to release on flash paper and watch it go up, almost instantly, in flames. It's very exciting to see! When that's done, we'll share a guided meditation to help us capture our dreams for the new year, and we'll use paper and an envelope to write a letter to ourselves about what we want to create in our lives in 2018."
The letter goes into a self-addressed envelope that will be mailed to each participant in early summer. "It's amazing how useful it is to be reminded of your goals and objectives mid-year, instead of remembering them at the end of the year when it's time to make resolutions again. People experience much more success when they receive the reminder in the middle of the year – and they really love getting the letter in the mail," said Souder.
The whole event takes about an hour.
