Cape ninth-graders earn scholarships from Give Something Back program

Will attend University of Delaware tuition free
May 14, 2017

Two ninth-graders from Cape Henlopen High School, Sierra Gloria and Brianne Simmons, have been selected to receive scholarships to the University of Delaware through Give Something Back, a national organization devoted to mentoring and college scholarships for students facing economic adversity.

Each student completed Give Back's rigorous application process, which included attending a family information meeting, completing a College Cost Estimator and an online application, and interviewing with members of the Give Back staff. To apply for the scholarship program, students must be eligible for the Pell Grant and have a B grade point average or better.

The selected high school students will be paired with mentors who advise and help prepare them for success at the University of Delaware where they will graduate in four years without any debt for tuition, fees, or room and board.

Give Back is currently recruiting volunteer mentors for its scholars in Sussex County. If interested, contact Allison Price at 609-281-5518 or visit www.giveback.ngo/mentors.

Give Back awards scholarships to academically driven students of modest means who might not otherwise attend college. Pell Grant-eligible students are selected in the ninth grade and mentored throughout high school. After graduation, Give Back scholars attend one of Give Back's partner universities or colleges in Delaware, Illinois, New Jersey, New York or Pennsylvania. It is the focus of the organization to help students graduate college in four years, debt free for tuition, fees, or room and board.
