CRC to benefit from Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive May 11

May 6, 2024

Again this year, the Community Resource Center’s food rescue program will be among the recipients of the National Association of Letter Carriers’ annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive.

Members of the public are invited to leave a donation of nonperishable food in a bag near their mailboxes Saturday, May 11, and letter carriers will do the rest.

“The need is growing with each year,” said Dianne Shearon, CRC food rescue lead volunteer. “I can tell you that last year we gave away nearly 50,000 bags of food to our hungry clients, and our numbers show that we are on track to hand out even more in 2024. We are so grateful to the post office and to every household that participates in the annual food donation drive.”

Each year, letter carriers across the country head out on their routes on the second Saturday in May to collect donations of nonperishable food items to benefit local food pantries. Since launching in 1993, the event has grown into the nation’s largest one-day food drive, helping to fill the shelves of food banks in cities and towns throughout the United States.
