Delaware Community Foundation awards capital and equipment grants

August 12, 2016

The Delaware Community Foundation has announced its 2016 capital and equipment grants to organizations around the state. This year’s grants will benefit thousands of Delawareans statewide.

Sussex County capital grant recipients are: CHEER, $20,430 for renovations to the Warren L. and Charles C. Allen Jr. CHEER Community Center; Food Bank of Delaware, $11,500 to repair the loading dock at the Milford facility; Meals on Wheels Lewes-Rehoboth, $6,000 to replace the roof on the organization’s office in Lewes; and Rehoboth Beach Film Society, $25,000 to create the new RBFS Cinema Art Theater in Lewes.

This year’s Sussex County equipment grant recipients are Autism Delaware, $2,000 to purchase a laptop workstation and related equipment; Big Brothers Big Sisters of Delaware, $2,097 to support the purchase of portable projectors and tablets; Delmarva Clergy United in Social Action, $5,000 to purchase beds and bedding for DCUSA’s home for boys aging out of foster care; and Sussex Community Crisis Housing, $4,480 to purchase HVAC units for two of its transitional facilities.

Since 1989, the Delaware Community Foundation has distributed more than $6.5 million in capital grants. These are funded by the State of Delaware Fund and other funds established by generous individuals and organizations. Capital grants support projects that have a lasting, positive impact on the population served by the organization. They may be used to fund construction, renovation or repair of buildings, and/or land purchases. Capital grants typically range from $5,000 to $20,000, but can be awarded for up to $25,000. Equipment grants are for the purchase of equipment essential for an organization to provide services, and generally range between $2,000 and $7,000, but can also be awarded for a maximum of $10,000.

“We are so glad we can help nonprofit organizations invest in their infrastructure so they can continue to provide services,” said DCF President and CEO Stuart Comstock-Gay. “These capital grants allow organizations to continue to make a difference.”
