Elks host bowling social for Stockley Center guests

May 23, 2025

Nine residents and 10 staff members from Stockley Center had a fun time of bowling and fellowship March 25, in the hall of Cape Henlopen Elks Lodge 2540 in Lewes.

The Elks Community Outreach Committee has established a great relationship with the Stockley Center. Located in Georgetown, the center is a residential facility for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

The lodge’s third bowling event was a great opportunity for the residents to participate in an easy activity outside of their usual surroundings. With the help of an electronically controlled ramp device called Poss-i-Bowl, wheelchair-using players are able to bowl with just a gentle touch of a button.

The residents spent the afternoon with 12 of their Elks Lodge friends, sharing smiles and excitement. Volunteers from the Elks assisted as bowling attendants, and PER Gary Eckenrode acted as referee in his official black-and-white striped shirt and sports whistle.

Other seasonal Elks events include karaoke at the Stockley Center with famed local DJ Shermanater, and an Easter party with music, gifts and a parade featuring the Easter Bunny.

Cape Henlopen Elks take pride in supporting a greater connection with all members of the community asa part of their motto, Elks Care – Elks Share!
