Fifth annual Blood for a Brew drive kicks off in Milton

May 27, 2025

Blood Bank of Delmarva kicked off the organization’s fifth annual Blood for A Brew drive at Dogfish Head in Milton May 20.

The annual drive finds the blood bank’s mobile blood donation bus going to different breweries around Delmarva. This year, the blood bank added coffee shops to the list. In all, 19 breweries and coffee shops are taking part this year, including local favorites Dewey Beer Company, Big Oyster Brewing and Revelation Craft Brewing Company.

Jason Burlew, marketing manager for the Blood Bank of Delmarva, said, “We started this because we noticed every summer, as high schools and colleges were out of season, we saw a big drop-off in blood donations. Those make up about 25% of our blood supply. So, a fun way to try to recoup some of that was to partner with local breweries.”

Those who donate at the breweries will receive a free T-shirt and a commemorative bottle opener; those who donate at the coffee shops will get a free cup of coffee. Burlew said those who want to donate should stay hydrated and have a good meal beforehand. The drive will last through Friday, Sept. 12.
