Financial crimes and fraud prevention program set May 15

The League of Women Voters of Sussex County will present Common Financial Crimes Targeting Delaware Residents and How to Combat Them from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 15, at Grotto Pizza, 22925 Sussex Highway, Seaford.

Guest speaker will be Det. Michael Venero of the Delaware State Police Troop 4 financial crimes unit.

As part of the League, Libations & Learning series, the event is open to anyone wanting to learn how to avoid the growing number of scams and fraud intruding on people’s daily lives. The program will begin at approximately 6:30 p.m., following dinner with individual orders and separate checks.

A senior member of the Delaware State Police’s conflict management team, Venero is military veteran with eight years of service in the United States Navy as an intelligence officer. He holds a bachelor’s degree from University of Delaware, he is currently working on his master’s degree in cybersecurity and software engineering through the University of Advancing Technology. His specialties include crypto and cyber-based investigations.
