Just Us Cat and Kitten Rescue to host fundraiser Oct. 30

May 27, 2025

Just Us Cat and Kitten Rescue will hold its annual fundraiser Thursday, Oct. 30, at 1776 Steakhouse, 18585 Coastal Hwy., Rehoboth Beach.

Last year’s fundraiser did very well, helped by the raffle of Eagles/Commanders private suite tickets. Event organizers hope to get NFL tickets to the same suite again. There will also be a raffle for a six-day cruise for two to Bermuda on Royal Caribbean, donated by Where 2 Next Travel, owned by local agent Frank Echols. Just Us will again partner with Brandywine Valley SPCA for the raffles.

The BVSPCA  is still offering free spays and neuters on Thursdays in Georgetown, funded by a Just Us grant. For details, email ganderson@bvspca.org and mention the Just Us program. Just Us also continues to support the BVSPCA pet food bank, with another 1,000 pounds of dry cat food delivered there in April. It is available to anyone who qualifies and fills out a form at the Georgetown location.

In April, the employees of Marshalls near Rehoboth Beach presented Just Us with 10 large bags of cat-related items as part of the company’s Neighbor of Choice program.  The employees selected Just Us as a beneficiary, as they were remembering Marshalls employee Debbie Pick, who passed away earlier this year and was a Just Us volunteer.  The donated items will be used in gift baskets and bags that will be auctioned off in October.

Since May of last year and culminating this April, Just Us has been the recipient of food, litter, toys and towels donated by the Xi Sigma Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Thanks go to Barbara Henriksen, who collected the goods and called each month. The group provides a wonderful example of neighbors helping neighbors who care about their feline friends.

Just Us continues to provide vaccine services for cats and dogs at a monthly clinic in the Long Neck/Pot-Nets area. Information about the clinics is provided in the Cape Gazette and The Guide. Bob’s Program, offered on Wednesdays at the Georgetown BVSPCA location, also continues. Through April, 310 free spays/neuters have been performed by BVSPCA staff.

Just Us has seen an increase in the need for fosters this year, with many pregnant cats taken in and delivering litters in foster homes, as well as kittens abandoned for unknown reasons. Many older cats are in need of homes as well, often left behind by people moving or by the death of their owners. Just Us is always looking for fosters; anyone interested can contact Judy Kane at 302-542-5507 to find out how to help.

As  always, donations are appreciated and can be mailed to Just Us Cat Rescue, PO Box 32, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971. Just Us is a 501c3 nonprofit organization, and donations are tax-deductible.
