Kudos to Sleasman letter on Lewes

July 7, 2016

I would like to thank Jim Sleasman for his letter in the Cape Gazette July 1, titled "Lewes Planning Dept. position not fully justified."

Mr. Sleasmans's letter was thoroughly researched, objective, fact-based and clearly written. It has been a long time, reading a wide range of publications, that I have had an opportunity to read such an insightful communication.

His central question that is key to the entire issue: Do we need a planner position/department in Lewes? He proceeds to answer that question with documented, comprehensive information. His suggestion that Lewes employ, based on recommendations from the APA an AICP, planning consultants such as ERM should clearly be the path for Lewes to adopt. The use of consultants has many benefits as they bring a wide range of skills and experiences both individually and from the intellectual resources within their companies.

Thanks to Mr. Sleasman for doing all the research to objectively inform all of us.
