Lewes resident Tommy Gibson and his guide dog, Argo, are ready for a marathon.
The duo has been steadily working toward a 26.2 mile goal as part of a Wag-a-thon fundraiser to raise money for Guiding Eyes for the Blind.
So far, Gibson said they have walked about 14 miles, and their goal is to raise $5,000. Donations can be made until Thursday, May 31.
Argo is Gibson’s third guide dog, and the animals have given him freedom to move about despite his blindness.
“I remember the very first time I was allowed to work my first dog, Dakota, in a park,” Gibson said. “The feelings of freedom, the joy of being able to walk by myself without the assistance of another person, made me cry. I had tears running down my face as just the two of us were able to stroll down a simple path, cross a street by ourselves and navigate everyday obstacles that are challenging to any person whose vision is ostensibly impaired.”
