Marilyn M. Ambrose, 79, a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully Monday, May 26, 2025.

Marilyn leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering dedication to her family. Born Feb. 7, 1946, to Warren and Betty Miller, she grew up in Pottsville, Pa., and graduated from Pottsville High School.

Determined and hardworking, Marilyn put herself through Bloomsburg State Teachers College (now Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania). She began her professional career as a teacher in the Blue Mountain School District in Schuylkill County, Pa., and later served as director of Financial Aid at Wesley College in Dover. Her commitment to community extended beyond education - she proudly served as assistant director of Dover Housing Authority.

Marilyn was also deeply involved in the Milford community. She was a passionate volunteer with Mispillion Art League and played a key role in the annual Milford Bug & Bud Festival. Her enthusiasm, energy, and warm spirit enriched every cause she embraced.

She was married for 48 years to the love of her life, Irvin M. “Irv” Ambrose. Together, they built a beautiful life, raising two daughters, Jen and Amy, whom they adored. Marilyn had a lifelong love of antiques and found joy in quiet moments at home, listening to music and assisting Irv with his clock repair and furniture restoration.

A gracious hostess and gifted storyteller, Marilyn was cherished by a wide circle of friends and neighbors. She was known for her lively conversations, heartfelt hospitality, and especially her unforgettable appetizers. Her warmth and presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Irv; her sister, Carolyn; and her stepfather, Daniel DiCello.

She is survived by her daughters, Amy Ambrose Donato and her husband Eric, and Jennifer Ambrose Blanchard and her husband David; three grandchildren, Sara Blanchard, Ben Donato and Nick Donato; her brother-in-law, Dr. David Ambrose and his wife Christine; her nephew, Dr. David Ambrose; and her niece, Dr. Tracey Ambrose.

Services will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Mispillion Art League, 5 N. Walnut St., Milford, DE 19963, in honor of Marilyn’s generous spirit and lifelong dedication to community.
