January 26, 2018

Cape Henlopen High School senior Melanie McCloy recently celebrated with friends at Lefty's Alley & Eats after she received the December Young Citizen Award.

Each month, Lefty's recognizes and rewards local high school seniors who possess the qualities of dependability, service, leadership and character in their homes, schools and communities. The person selected receives a lane side party for 10 at Lefty's to celebrate their achievement. Each monthly recipient is considered for a $1,000 scholarship which will be awarded Tuesday, May 1.

McCloy was selected for her strong leadership both in school and in the community. "Melanie is an extremely impressive young citizen, and everyone at Lefty's can't wait to see what the future holds for her. Attending Princeton is a great start," said Jennifer Gooner, Lefty's director of operations.

McCloy is an accomplished athlete who participates in field hockey, basketball and tennis. She is an avid fan of music and dance, and is a member of three different band ensembles and the Coastal Dance Academy Competition Team. She has also been engaged with Delaware Special Olympics for over 10 years. She plans to attend Princeton next year to study engineering.
