Many summer rules in effect in Rehoboth

It’s May, which means some summer rules have returned to Rehoboth Beach. Drivers may not make left-hand turns at the stop-lighted intersections of Rehoboth Avenue. 

Dogs and other animals are not permitted on the Boardwalk or beach at any time. These rules will be in place through Tuesday, Sept. 30. The biggest summer rule – pay-to-park enforcement for commercial and residential areas – goes into effect Thursday, May 15. 

Also beginning May 15, there is no bike riding on the Boardwalk before 5 a.m. or after 10 a.m. Both of those rules run to Monday, Sept. 15.

Donovan-Smith hearing to resume 

The Lewes Planning Commission will resume a public hearing on a proposed conditional-use application for the Donovan-Smith Manufactured Home Community at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 6, at the Rollins Center.

The LPC paused the hearing, which began Feb. 24, citing a lack of information from the applicant.

The hearing will be conducted with Spanish translation.

Lewes board to mull Groome request 

The Lewes Board of Adjustment will consider a variance request from Groome Church during its meeting at 10 a.m., Tuesday, May 6, at city hall.

The church is asking for relief from front-yard setback and building height requirements as part of its proposed renovations.

Free health fair set May 7 in Rehoboth

The Knights of Columbus Star of the Sea Council 7297 will host its 2nd Annual Health Fair in partnership with Beebe Healthcare from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., Wednesday, May 7, at St. Edmond Catholic Church parish hall, 409 King Charles Ave., Rehoboth Beach.

Beebe Healthcare staff will offer tests including blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol, body mass index and bone density screening. A Beebe Healthcare team of four RNs and six nursing students will provide education on stroke, hypertension, and skin and colon cancer. All testing is free, and prior registration is not required. There will be plenty of free parking nearby.

Overfalls sets May 7 dining fundraiser at Dogfish

To raise funds for the Overfalls Foundation, Dogfish Head Brewings & Eats will host a Beer and Benevolence night from 4 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, May 7, at 320 Rehoboth Ave., Rehoboth Beach.

A portion of sales proceeds will be donated to the nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and honoring the United States Lighthouse Service and the maritime history of coastal Delaware.

Rehoboth city hall to close early May 8

In honor of National Public Service Recognition Week, Rehoboth Beach city offices will close at 12 p.m., Wednesday, May 7, and reopen at 8:30 a.m., Thursday, May 8. City employees will be participating in a department-wide lunch.

Henlopen Acres tree committee to meet 

The Henlopen Acres Tree Committee will meet at 10 a.m., Friday, May 9, at town hall, 104 Tidewaters. The agenda includes discussions on loblolly tree borers, on proposed tree-related amendments to town code, and on the tree committee assisting the town with any changes to the approved tree list.

Possum Point Players director’s application forms for the 2026 season must be submitted by midnight, Saturday, May 10, via email to Logan Hunter at office@possumpointplayers.org. Applications postmarked by Saturday, May 10, may be mailed to Logan Hunter, Director Application, Possum Point Players, PO Box 96, Georgetown DE 19947. 

The 2026 season shows are “Sondheim on Sondheim,” “Ripcord,” “Mary Poppins,” “Angels in America, Part 1 - Millennium Approaches” and “She Loves Me.”
