Lewes commission to consider Donovan-Smith plan June 18
The Lewes Planning Commission will hold its regular monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 18, at the Rollins Center.
The agenda includes discussion and possible recommendation to mayor and council regarding a conditional-use application for Donovan-Smith Manufactured Home Park.

Lewes City Hall, BPW closed June 19
Lewes City Hall and the Board of Public Works offices will be closed Thursday, June 19, in observance of the Juneteenth Freedom Day holiday.
Both will reopen at 8 a.m., Friday, June 20.
Sussex Family YMCA open at no cost June 19
To celebrate freedom, unity and progress in commemoration of Juneteenth, Sussex Family YMCA will be open to the community at no cost Thursday, June 19, at 20080 Church St, Rehoboth Beach.
Special guest Joe Lawson will give a community talk from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Lawson is executive director of the Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice.
“At the Y, we believe Juneteenth is a time to remember and act. We celebrate this powerful moment in our nation’s history and honor the enslaved individuals who endured unimaginable hardship. As we reflect, we also encourage our neighbors to join us in taking social responsibility in our communities,” said Jarrett Royster, YMCA of Delaware president and CEO. “Together, we can be the change and create a brighter future for ourselves, our youth and one another.”

Rehoboth Boardwalk committee meeting June 20
The Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk and Beach Committee will meet at 9 a.m., Friday, June 20, at city hall, 229 Rehoboth Ave. This is the first committee meeting since May 2024. The agenda calls for a discussion on Boardwalk and beach readiness for summer 2025, and a discussion on how to commemorate the history of the Boardwalk.

Multiple myeloma group to meet June 21
The Delaware Multiple Myeloma Support Group will meet from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, June 21, at Milton Public Library, 121 Union St., Milton, and online via Zoom.

Rehoboth Board of Adjustment meeting June 23
The Rehoboth Beach Board of Adjustment will meet at 1:30 p.m., Monday, June 23, at city hall, 229 Rehoboth Ave. There are three hearings on the agenda – an appeal of the building inspector ruling related to use of a three-story garage apartment at 17 Lake Ave.; a variance request for 330 Rehoboth Ave. that would permit the continued existence and use of a grade-level parking lot in the residential portion of a split-zoned parcel of land; and a variance request for 69 Oak Ave. related to permitting construction of an accessory building in excess of 12 feet in height.

Police accountability committee meeting set for June 24
The Rehoboth Beach/Lewes Police Accountability Committee will meet at 10 a.m., Tuesday, June 24, in the commissioners room of Rehoboth Beach City Hall, 229 Rehoboth Ave.
This will be the first meeting for the committee, which provides advice to the departments on policy, training, how they engage in diverse communities and other issues. The committee is solely an advisory entity. The committee was formed as the result of a 2023 police accountability law that, among other things, requires all the state’s police departments, either individually or in combination with other departments, to create such a body.
Henlopen Acres issues call for 2025 election candidates
The annual election for Henlopen Acres will be held Saturday, Aug. 30. In advance of that, the town has issued a notice for two commissioner candidates. Commissioners Richard Thompson and Jeffrey Jacobs are up for re-election. Thompson, a nonresident commissioner, said during a meeting June 13 that he is not seeking re-election. Jacobs, a resident commissioner, said during the same meeting that he is planning on running for re-election. All candidates need to file their notice of intention to seek office with the town manager or mayor by 4:30 p.m., Friday, July 11.
The town charter requires that a majority of commissioners be bona fide residents of the town, which means a minimum of one resident commissioner will be elected this year. Accordingly, prospective candidates will be requested to file their intent to run as a resident or nonresident commissioner. There is no maximum limit of resident commissioners.
Anyone interested in registering to vote must do so by 4:30 p.m., Thursday, July 31.
Absentee ballots can be obtained after Tuesday, July 15. The deadline to request an absentee ballot in person at town hall is noon, Friday, Aug. 29. The deadline to request an absentee ballot to be sent by mail is 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 26. Absentee ballots must be received at town hall no later than noon, Saturday, Aug. 30.
