Hundred of bacon lovers chomped, chewed and chose their favorite bacon creations during the third annual Dewey-Rehoboth Bacon Fest April 23 and 24.

Organizer Justin Redefer said it was an amazing weekend. He spent Saturday handing out event packets and making sure the Dewey portion went off without a hitch, but on Sunday, he said, he enjoyed the fun.

“The weather was beautiful, the bacon was delicious and the times were good,” he said. “How awesome was it to see all the Bacon Fest T-shirts and Bacon fest scorecards in a hand walking the streets of Rehoboth Beach.”

Between Dewey and Rehoboth, 32 restaurants participated in the two-day event. Rehoboth’s Salt Air took home the event’s top honor, winning Best Bacon on the Beach 2016.

Festival newcomer and Dewey Beach Club owner Jeff Treacy finished first in Dewey with his pork belly taco. The second place winner in Dewey was Nalu’s pineapple upsidedown cake with crispy bacon, while the Dewey Beer Co. finished third with a bacon Yukon gold fritter and a brown ale to wash it down.

In Rehoboth, Fins finished first, Jam finished second and Jake’s Seafood House finished third.

Redefer said to mark the calendars for next year’s event. The dates for Bacon Fest 2017 are Saturday, April 22, in Dewey Beach, and Sunday, April 23, in Rehoboth Beach.
