Sussex Academy girls’ lax advances to semis

Seahawks to face No. 1 Cape May 28

The Sussex Academy girls’ lacrosse team advanced to the semifinals of the state tournament May 22, with a dominant 15-5 win over Archmere Academy.

Just two weeks earlier, the Seahawks fell to the Auks 13-12. The win sets up another rematch, this time against No. 1 Cape Henlopen. The game is set for 6 p.m., Wednesday, May 28, at Cape’s Champions Stadium in Lewes. Cape won the first matchup between the teams 18-6 in April.

Sussex Academy brings a record of 12-5 into the semifinals. Cape remains unbeaten with a record of 15-0-1.

Scoring three goals each in Sussex Academy’s win over Archmere were eighth-grader Mady Lehman, senior Emiley Bisaha, and juniors Elizabeth Merrick and Lily Bisaha. Elizabeth Layton tallied two goals, while Shea Danahy recorded one.

Merrick led the way with four assists, while Layton helped on three goals and Emiley Bisaha had one.

Senior goalie Morgan Leeper stopped 10 shots in the win.

Scoring for Archmere were Breanne Hughes and Elizabeth DeLuca with two each, and Claudia Koch with one. Mia Luce recorded seven saves.

In the other semifinal, No. 2 Tower Hill will take on No. 3 Caesar Rodney.
