To start the new year, three Sussex County councilmen were sworn in to take office prior to the Jan. 3 meeting. District 1 Councilman Mike Vincent of Seaford and District 2 Councilman Sam Wilson of Georgetown are serving third, four-year terms. I.G. At the meeting, Vincent was elected council president for the eighth straight year, and District 2 Councilman George Cole of Ocean View, who has served on council for 30 years, was elected vice president.

The following appointments/liaisons were made: Vincent, Delaware League of Local Governments; Cole, National Association of Counties and Sussex County Land Trust; Wilson, Sussex Conservation District board; Arlett, Sussex County Airport Committee and Salisbury/Wicomico Metropolitan Planning Organization; and Burton, Sussex County Land Trust.

Council approved the following legal team for 2017: Everett Moore, county attorney; Vince Robertson, assistant county attorney; Moore & Rutt, board of adjustment and county government/council; and Parkowski, Guerke and Swayze, planning and zoning commission.
