Turtle-naming contest to be held May 1-22 at Greene Turtle
The Greene Turtle Sports Bar and Grille announced its partnership with the Sea Turtle Conservancy to help promote awareness about the different species of sea turtles and the various threats to their survival. In honor of the partnership, the restaurant will sponsor a green turtle in the 10th annual Tour de Turtles, a sea turtle migration marathon, in July, and will also donate proceeds from The Greene Turtle's signature drink, Hell in the Shell made with Naked Turtle White Rum, to the conservancy.
From Monday, May 1, to Monday, May 22, The Greene Turtle Sports Bar & Grille will also launch a contest for guests to name the turtle that will be in the Tour de Turtles Marathon. The name that receives the most votes will win $500, and the winner will be announced on World Turtle Day, Tuesday, May 23.
"We are very excited to be partnering with the Sea Turtle Conservancy," said Nick Kegg, director of beverage and innovation at The Greene Turtle Sports Bar & Grille. "As a business that started in Ocean City, Md., we feel strongly about ocean conservation efforts and hope that this partnership can make a difference in educating the public about sea turtles and their protection."
"Sea Turtle Conservancy is proud to be partnering with a company like Greene Turtle Restaurants. Corporate and nonprofit partnerships like this can make a huge difference in the survival of endangered species and help raise awareness about the role we can all play in protecting wildlife," said David Godfrey, executive director of Sea Turtle Conservancy.
The Tour de Turtles safely tracks wild female sea turtles during their annual migrations from selected nesting spots in Florida and the Caribbean, in an effort to raise awareness about threats to sea turtles and encourage positive stewardship of the ocean and coastal habitats.
