The first Saturday in May has been known as Milton's town-wide yard sale day for years. Now there's another event to look forward to every year - Free Comic Book Day. Ogre's Grove hosted this international event for the first time in Milton May 5. Publishers such as Marvel and DC Comics create specific books to release that day, and sell them to retailers at cost, which then allows shops to give them away for free.
Ogre's Grove also gave away comic books from their collection by allowing guests to spin a wheel. ErinAnn Martin Beebe of Re/Max Realty Group provided superhero Pez and candy as other prizes. Customers could also enter a raffle to win a signed art print of Venom, one of only 2,000 made for participating shops.
Mark Powell and Jennifer Suter-Powell were there to recruit Harley Quinn fans for the Southern Delaware Roller Derby. The all-inclusive, flat-track roller derby league is based in Dover. They will host information nights Wednesday, June 6, and Friday, June 8, at Dover Skating Center. For more information, go to www.sodelrollerderby.com.
Ogre's Grove encouraged cosplayers to dress up and celebrate. James Chamberlain of the Eastern Shore Ghostbusters parked his ECTahOe-1 outside. The vehicle was programmed with the movie theme song and sounds. He brought a proton pack kids could wear to pose for photos with him. To get updates on where they will be next, join the Eastern Shore Ghostbusters group on Facebook.
Although Free Comic Book Day only happens once a year, New Comic Book Day happens every Wednesday. That's when new books are released every week. Free previews, promotional posters and other items often arrive, as well. Ogre's Grove is at 129 Union St., in the historic house next to the Milton library.
