Lewes resident Kirstin Pollock selected as Miss Florida Spirit 2012
American Spirit Pageants recently announced that Lewes resident and Cape Henlopen High School graduate Kirstin Pollock has been selected to represent the state of Florida as Miss Florida Spirit 2012. She will compete in the national American Spirit Pageant to be held May 31 to June 3 at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort in Orlando, Fla.
Pollock is 19 years old and attends the University of Tampa. She is studying communications and recently joined the honors program. She is also a sister of the Delta Beta Chapter of the Delta Zeta sorority. Her personal platform is Be The Match, the national bone marrow donor registry. She spends much of her time promoting others to sign up for the bone marrow registry for free at BeTheMatch.org. During her reign, she will also be supporting and fundraising for the HAVLife foundation.
Pollock grew up in Gap, Pa. She attended Pequea Valley High School until the completion of her junior year. She moved to Lewes with her grandmother, Frances Pollock, and she graduated from Cape Henlopen High School. While in Lewes, she works at the Lewes Bake Shoppe.
Kirstin has a twin brother, Corey Pollock, 19, and older sister, Lindsey Pollock, 21. Their parents are Lt. Col. R. Michael Pollock of Dover and Cynthia Pollock of Gap.
The American Spirit Pageant is the only national pageant in which fundraising is a judged category in the competition. This year, the young ladies participating in the pageant will be raising money for American Spirit Charities, which will funnel the competition proceeds to the HAVLife Foundation, a charity which gives at-risk children opportunities to participate in the arts and athletics.
The pageant’s mission is to emulate and epitomize the true American spirit, focusing on the never-say-die attitude that has made the nation strong. It is about character, courage, conviction, charity and compassion.
Kirstin is currently seeking business and personal sponsors. She will be making an appearance and singing the national anthem on Sunday, April 1 at the Be The Match Be The One Run in Tampa.
