The Cape Gazette is proud to present this special edition of 2000 numbered prints titled "Along The Way" to its subscribers and readers. Joining forces with the Charles Mills Boulevard Improvement Corporation and local artist Abraxas, the Cape Gazette has come upon the idea of creating this fine original painting as a means of involving our cause-conscious community in supporting the Charles Mills Boulevard initiative financially. Your purchase of one of these prints insures your participation in the vitalization and upkeep of the planned boulevard makeover of Rt. 1 between Nassau Overpass and Delaware Seashore State Park.
Working with old Holland paints (preferred by Rembrandt himself), Abraxas turned his talent toward the beach access path at Chesapeake St. between Dewey and Rehoboth Beaches for his inspiration. This natural gateway to the ocean has been used over the past few years as a symbol of the Charles Mills Boulevard initiative which aims to upgrade the appearance of Rt. 1 as the gateway to Delaware's Cape Region. Observing the site's sunlight over a number of successive sunrises, Abraxas said he was "struck with an enhanced sense of realism," and working nightly, often until 3 a.m., he retreated into that "old world place of mind." There, he drew on most colors of the spectrum. Coloring proved key in creating the luminous quality radiating romantically from the background to the foreground. The union of paints, tools and technique (not to mention the ache from a sore wisdom tooth) resulted in an extraordinarily unique and uplifting representation of an otherwise ordinary Cape scene.
In similar fashion, the goal of the Charles Mills Boulevard project is to brighten up this important stretch of Delaware highway at the dawn of a new century. When the Boulevard's aesthetic enhancement is complete, the result will project a sparkling presence to those who live here and those who visit.
Although not many may have the capacity to involve themselves directly in a project of this magnitude, the purchase of this print for $100 will certainly accomplish much to bring back and preserve some of the natural beauty of Delaware's Cape Region in the midst of rapid commercial and residential development.
