ATHLETES IN ACTION - Have you even wondered what you are supposed to do when the terror alert increases to a color closer to red? Here’s what you should do! Keep hitting the weights, but also focus on agility drills and short sprints. Basically you want cat-quick reflexes and the soul of a cat which is no soul at all.
The terrorist attack on Glasgow airport in Scotland was a case in point. Two guys crash a flaming car into an airport terminal and one turbaned, turbo-charged zealot rolls out on fire and attacks a policeman shouting, “Allah” with every punch flailed at the copper’s head.
When a Scottish person begins to talk you just have to laugh, or maybe that’s just me. Once on crowded South Street in Philly amidst midday sidewalk traffic, some crazy dude grabbed my wrist and said, “Give me your watch!” I kept walking, snatching my arm away and said NO! Then I looked down and realized I didn’t have a watch anymore!
TRANSPLANT PARTY - Hard not to joke when talking with 1981 Cape grad Rob Medd because Rob’s personality is geared toward fun - it’s just the way he sees the world. Last Saturday Rob celebrated a one-year-out party no, not out like that - but one year from his heart transplant. And anyone who has ever had a heart scare, real or imagined, knows it’s all about the positive approach to living an active and sensible life otherwise you sink into the morose preoccupation of listening to your own heart beat and race and flutter then go skip and bam and all the other crazy stuff hearts do to freak us out. Rob’s is a happy story and it generated happy times, which is what always happens when I’m around any of the Medds.
HAREM SCAREM - Is a Canadian rock group and not a Marx Brothers film as I thought when I joked last Saturday to personal trainer Chris Antonio after the Beach Paper Firecracker 5K.
“Gather your Harem Scarem for a group photo.”
The six girls laughed at the thought of a sleek sheik close friends call “Lumpy” because of his musculature. Antonio personalizes workouts and diets and often brings his clients to competitive events. And he has a website and I must say that Chris’s clients always look happy and natural and, yes, I am a journalistic mentor to him but he doesn’t need promotion because he is plenty busy and I’m still eating bagels and hot dogs when I feel like it. My trainer on retainer Dave Kergaard understands that I’m close enough to perfect for my own self.
CRUISING FOR CONNECTIONS - Last Sunday night was old-school community baseball down at the Little League park along the Lewes canal. The weather was picture perfect - cool and breezy and bug-less. First baseman David Kennedy was in the lineup which brought generations of Cape Kennedys, Maulls and Lawtons. Anthony Caruso brought South Philly to the house while Hunter Engel also represented Laytons and Ortons, and with no Orton family there is no park. Jack Norwood is backed by Hook

an entire tribe of relatives and Teague Elliot brings Gerald and Kitty as grandparents, which will soon get you to the Mitchell clan and it goes on from there. Members of the team, because if I leave anyone out I may inherit an unflattering nickname, are: Luke DiGuglielmo, David Kennedy, Kai Vitella, David Kwan, Mike Destasio, Kyle Sechrist, Hunter Engel, Anthony Caruso, Jack Norwood, Branden Duran, Teague Elliot and D.J. Erikson.
REHOBOTH SOFTBALL - Lewes dropped its program but the Rehoboth 10-year-old All-Stars moved to the championship game in their bracket. Rehoboth defeated Laurel 2-1 behind 13 strikeouts by Tiara Duffy. The two runs needed were scored by Camryn and Tess Bernheimer. Jordan Brown made a great play at third for the final out to end a Laurel threat. Carley Lord had a single for Rehoboth.
Last Friday night Rehoboth came back from three runs down to defeat Woodbridge 7-3. Camryn Bernheimer recorded nine strikeouts for Rehoboth. Tiara Duffy went 4-for-4 including a double and she also scored three times.
Carley Lord, Nikki Daley, and Jaylin Magee all went 2-for-3. Jordan Brown had two RBIs. Rehoboth went on to defeat Seaford 10-0 in a four-inning slaughter-shortened game to be named Sussex County champions.
SNIPPETS - Andy Staton of Rehoboth completed the Ironman in Zurich, Switzerland last June 24 shaving an hour and 10 minutes off his previous best time last year in Idaho.
