Let me take a minute to talk to the youth out there who may want to play in the NFL when they grow up. If you want to go out at night that’s fine, but if you feel you need to carry a gun to go into a certain place just to feel safe then you need to go home. The same goes for a place where they are “wanding” everyone going through the door. If everyone needs to be “wanded” then you just need to go home.

SHEMIK - Shemik Thompson, former Cape All-State player, had 11 assists - a career high - as the Blue Devils of Central Connecticut State defeated Lafayette last Sunday 82-78. Thompson has 21 assists over the last two games as his team visits Delaware Wednesday, Dec. 3, for a 7 p.m. game at the Bob Carpenter Center.
The 2008 Northeast Conference Rookie of the Year is averaging 9.6 points, 7.4 assists and 2.0 steals for the 2-3 Blue Devils. The Blue Hens are 2-4 on the season.
Kutztown (3-0) defeated Goldey Beacom (2-3) on Nov. 25, 94 to 71. Kyle White, a former Cape player, led Goldey Beacom with 19 points.
Valley Forge Military Academy & College forfeited to the Skipjacks of Chesapeake College by failing to appear for last Tuesday night’s scheduled game. Tracy Jones, a former Cape star, is a freshman at Chesapeake College.
SNIPPETS - Michael Wardian, 34, of Arlington, Va., won his first Ted Corbitt Memorial USATF Ultra Runner of the Year Award in 2008. Mike runs several races locally over the summer and is a former Michigan State lacrosse player. Wardian posted wins at the USA National 50K Championships, the USA National 100K Championships (where he made his first USA National 100K Team) and the USA National 50-Mile Trail Championships. He finished 21st at the USA Mountain Running Championships and second at the USA National Trail Marathon Championships showing his versatility over shorter distances. He also posted wins at the JFK 50-Miler and the Lake City 50K.
John Knarr, local guru from Elite Physical Therapy, along with his wife, Amelia, is in a Mallorca, Spain training camp for Wladimir Klitschko’s upcoming IBF title defense vs. Hassim Rahman Saturday, Dec. 13, in SAP arena in Mannheim, Germany. Cape basketball will hold a Super Tuesday basketball showcase Tuesday, Dec. 2, beginning at 5 p.m. with inter-squad scrimmages featuring junior varsity boys followed by girls then boys varsity squads. This tip-off fundraiser cost $2 for students and $3 for adults. The Cape boys open the regular season Friday, Dec. 5, at Dover.
The girls host Dover on the same night.
This Saturday night, Dec. 6, from 7 to 10 p.m. at Crabbers Cover in the Ruddertowne complex in Dewey Beach there will be a reception to honor coach George Glenn, who formerly coached football at Salesianum and Cape Henlopen. All former players and coaches and friends of the coach are invited. This will be fun and informal and the microphone will be open for stories and impressions. The Lehigh University wrestling team went to 4-0 on the season beating powerhouse Oklahoma State 18-13. Freshman Connor McDonald (125) upset Obe Blanc, the No. 6-ranked grappler in the nation, on riding time. “McDonald’s match was really big for us early on,” explained head coach Pat Santoro.
“He had a great third period and picked up a big win.” No. 22 Lehigh opened competition at the Journeymen/Brute Northeast Duals with an 18-13 win over No. 7 Oklahoma State Saturday at the McDonough Athletic Complex at Hudson Valley Community College. The Mountain Hawks later added convincing wins over UNC Greensboro (36-6), Binghamton (33-6) and Appalachian State (36-3) to improve to 8-0 on the dual season.
Delaware State wrestling defeated Franklin and Marshall at Memorial Hall 20-16 on Nov. 29 thanks to Jamar Beckett’s 10-5 victory in the 285-pound unlimited class over Danny Canfield. Hornet wrestling is back!
