Henry M. Donovan Jr.,
equipment operator
Henry M. Donovan Jr., 64, of Lewes, lost a swift but courageous battle with cancer Wednesday, July 27, 2005, surrounded by his loving family at his home.
He was born in Lewes, the son of the late H. Miller and Irma Beideman Donovan. He worked as an equipment operator for Melvin L. Joseph Construction of Georgetown and was previously employed with the city of Rehoboth water department, city of Lewes water department and various other construction companies.
He was a lifetime member of the Lewes Fire Department, a member of the Lewes-Rehoboth Moose Lodge 646 and a member of the Deputies Chauffeur Club.
Henry was active in Scouting, Little League and Indian Guides when his sons were involved. His favorite pastime was riding in the countryside and the state park, looking for deer.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Richard E. Donovan.
He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Phyllis A. Donovan; two sons, Richard E. Donovan II and his wife, Stacy L. Martin-Donovan, and Kevin Hunter Donovan and his wife, Linda Noble-Donovan; three grandsons, Patrick H. Donovan, Gordon D. Holmes and Russell L. Noble and his fiance, Toni-Lyn; a great-grandson, Symon Lee Nobles; a sister, KaArin Schayer; two brothers, Robert Lee Donovan and his wife, Lynn, and Daniel D. Donovan and his wife, Dawn; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m., Saturday, July 30, in the chapel of Melson Funeral Services on Long Neck Road. Internnment will be private.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the Lewes Fire Department or Delaware Hospice, Southern Division, 600 N. DuPont hwy., Georgetown DE 19947.

Theodore W. Richards,
farmer, businessman
Theodore W. “Jake” Richards, 76, a lifelong Milton resident, passed away Wednesday, July 27m 2005, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, Md.
Mr. Richards was born in Milton, the son of the late Jacob H. and Beatrice Reynolds Richards. Having worked with his father on the family farm, he continued that tradition and remained a farmer in the Milton area for many years. In the 1960s, he had Jake’s Service Station in Milford and during the winter months he later worked part-time for NCR and Sussex Trust.
An avid outdoorsman and hunter, he was a member and past president of the Delaware State Trap Shooters Association where in 1973 he was the Trap Shooting Singles Champion and was a member of the Broadkill Sportsman’s Club where he was also past president.
He also enjoyed sports and never met a stranger. He was a member of Whites Chapel Church and attended Grace Church in Milton. He was a former member of the Redmen.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Orna Lowe.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Nancy McCabe Richards; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Jean and Harrison Richardson and Dorothy and David Dodd, all of Milton; five nieces, Gail Mansoory, Kathy Short, Sharon Slater, Susan Attalla and Jeanne Dodd-Blakeslee; three nephews, James R. Price, Kelly Price and David Dodd; and seven great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, Aug. 1, in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal St., Milton, where friends may call after noon. Burial will be in White’s Chapel Cemetery, Milton.
Contributions are suggested to a charity of choice.

Wendy T. Besche,
artist, writer, gardener
Mrs. Wendy Townsend Besche, 41, of Georgetown, died Tuesday, July 26, 2005, at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford. 
She was born Oct. 25, 1963, in Wilmington, daughter of Robert Scott Townsend of Chadds Ford, Pa. and Betsy Brink Townsend of Paoli, Pa.
Mrs. Besche was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church, Georgetown, where she sang in the church choir.  She enjoyed story telling, working as an artist, gardening, writing poetry and other writings.  She was a graduate of Alexis I. Dupont High School and the Delaware Technical and Community College of Georgetown.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, Michael C. Besche of Georgetown; one sister, Dr. Patricia Townsend Mako of Kotzebue, Alaska; three brothers, Sean C. Townsend, Robert M. Townsend and Laird S. Townsend, all of Wilmington; and her step-mother, Sally Townsend of Chadds Ford.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 30, at 11 a.m., at the Wesley United Methodist Church, 102 East Laurel Street, Georgetown, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will be private. 
In lieu of flowers contributions are suggested to the Wesley United Methodist Church, Georgetown, DE.

Fannie Elloise Johnson,
school bus driver
Fannie Elloise Johnson, 86, of Millsboro, died Monday, July 25, 2005, at Beebe Medical Center, Lewes.
Mrs. Johnson was born in Millsboro, the daughter of the late Ephraim Lincoln and Elizabeth Patience Wright Harman.
She was a school bus driver for the Indian River School District for more than 20 years. She was a member of the Indian Mission United Methodist Church, Millsboro. She was also a former tribal council member of the Nanticoke Indian Association, Millsboro.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Clarence “Gib” Johnson; one son, Troy Johnson of Millsboro; a sister, Joan A. “Frank” Norwood of Millsboro; four grandchildren, Kelvin Harmon, Keenan Harmon, Katrina Harmon and Karen Harmon-Overton; and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 1 p.m., Sunday, at the Indian Mission United Methodist Church, Indian Mission Road, Millsboro, where friends may call one hour prior to the service and also from 7 to 9 p.m., Saturday at the Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington Street, Millsboro. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.

Richard J. Coyne,

Richard J. Coyne, 64, of Lewes, died Monday, July 25, 2005, at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes.
Mr. Coyne was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., son of the late John J. and Marian E. Dermody Coyne. He had formerly lived in Bayshore, N.Y. and had been employed as a carpenter in residential construction.  Mr. Coyne had served in the U.S. Air Force. He was an avid sport fisherman and was always in pursuit of the “one that got away”.  He was a loving husband and father.
He is survived by his wife, Micheale A. “Mickey” Gallagher-Coyne; a son, Richard S. Coyne of Centereach, N.Y; two sisters, Virginia Croce of Bridgeville and Maureen DiGilio of Brightwaters, N.Y.; three brothers, John Coyne of Bayshore, N.Y, Kevin Coyne of East Moriches, N.Y. and Tommy Coyne of Brightwaters, N.Y.
A mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, July 29 at St. Jude the Apostle Church, Route 1, Lewes. Burial will follow at Delaware Veterans Cemetery South near Millsboro.

Joseph K. Adkins,
retired farmer, bus driver
Joseph K. Adkins, 94, of Bayard, died Monday, July 25, 2005, at Beebe Medical Center, Lewes.
Mr. Adkins was a retired farmer and school bus driver. He enjoyed working in his garden and sharing his vegetables with family and friends. He will be remembered and missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known him.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Armenia Adkins, in 1986.
He is survived by his daughter, Nelda McLaughlin and her husband Mark; a son, Norris Adkins and his wife Kittie Faye; three granddaughters, Jennifer Troublefield and her husband Tom, Tammy Bunting and her husband Robert and Celeste Cathall and her husband Darrin; a grandson, Norris Jr. and his wife Laura; and six great-grandchildren.
Services and burial were private.

Diane B. Canavan,

Diane Gray Burroughs Canavan passed away Monday, July 25, 2005, at home after a short illness.
She was the daughter of the late Francis and Hilda Gray. She graduated from Stephen Decatur High School in 1967, and later attended reflexology school. She was most recently employed by Bev’s Hairways in Ocean Pines and Historic Relocations, and previously worked for Farlow’s Pharmacy, United States Postal Service, Best Answering Service, and RJ Lock. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, and playing cards, and was an avid NASCAR fan.
She is survived by her husband Thomas; a sister, Helen Lathbury Conley and her husband Eddie of Seaford; a brother, Meloy Gray Sr. and his wife, Linda, of Titusville, Fla.; a son, Barry Burroughs, and his wife, Julie, of Titusville; a daughter, Amber Burroughs of Two Rivers, Wisc.; and numerous aunts and uncles and nieces and nephews.
Services and interment will be private.

Jean W. Bartlett, 75, of Frankford and formerly of Bethany Beach, died suddenly Tuesday, July 265, 2005, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes.
She was born in Washington, D.C., the daughter of the late William Irvin and Hilda Elizabeth Bayles Weaver,. She was a graduate of Eastern High School and worked as a secretary at the Pentagon until 1953, when she became a mother and a homemaker.
Jean was a treasurer of the Bethany Beach Fourth of July Committee for several years; a member of the Bethany Women’s Club; supporter of the South Coastal Library and St. Ann’s Bazaar.
She enjoyed traveling, reading and crocheting.
She is survived by her beloved husband, former Bethany Beach Mayor Charles J. Bartlett; her mother-in-law, Margaret Bartlett of Annapolis, Md.; a brother-in-law, Don Krippene of North Carolina; a daughter, Katharine Hilbert and her husband, Stephen, of Annapolis; a son, Steven Bartlett and his wife, Carolyn, of Berlin, Md.; a son, Charles F. Bartlett of Frankford; a daughter, Patricia Johnson and her husband, Duane, of Dover; a daughter, Mary Dayball and her husband, Tom, of Pasadena, Md.; 10 grandchildren, William and Jennifer Hilbert, Jamie, Kim, Steven and Caitlin Barlett, Bryan and Chris Johnson, and Tommy and Nikki Dayball. She was preceded in death by her sister, Jacquelin Krippene.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, July 29, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Bethany Beach. Burial will be in the Gates of Heaven Cemetery, Dagsboro. Arrangements by Melson Funeral Services, Ocean View.

Frederick A. Hoppes,
retired sales rep
Frederick A. Hoppes, 87, of Long Neck and formerly of New Castle and Palm Bay, Fla., died Thursday, July 21, 2005, at Beebe Medical Center, Lewes.
Fred had retired after working 38 years for Lehigh Safety shoe Co., Emmaus, Pa., as a sales representative. He thoroughly enjoyed working his territory of six states, providing safety toed shoes to industries.
Fred served as an Army staff sergeant during World War II and was decorated with numerous awards, including a Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. While residing in New Castle, he was a member of the Nur Lodge Temple Shrine, a lifetime member of the Delaware City Masonic Lodge, as well as a member of Asbury Methodist Church, where he was quite active.
After retiring, he became a member of American Legion Post 28, Oak Orchard/Riverdale, and the Cape Henlopen Elks Lodge. Prior to his long illness, he enjoyed fishing, golfing and traveling.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Betty Hoppes; two daughters, Diane Pratt and her husband, Thom, of Long Neck, and Linda Loyd of Waycross, Ga.; two grandchildren, Tommy Loyd and is wife, Lori, of Picayune, Miss., and Brenda Richardson and her husband, Ryan, of Statesboro, Ga. He is also survived by his beloved dog, Toby.
As per his wishes, services will be private for immediate family.

Wesley L. Kling,

Wesley L. Kling, 82, of Camden-Wyoming died Friday, July 22, 2005, in Ruxton Health Nursing Home, Denton, Md.
Mr. Kling was born March 17, 1923, in Stanford, Conn., son of the late Joseph and Catherine Walls Kling.
He owned and operated Kling’s Meat Market in Willow Grove for 40 years. He was a loving, husband, father and grandfather. His many hobbies included golfing, hunting and horseracing.
Mr. Kling was a member of the Wyoming United Methodist Church and the Masonic Union Lodge in Dover.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Madeline Kling; two sons, John Wesley Kling of Wyoming and Donald Kling of Dover; a daughter, Linda Kling of Bangor, Maine; a brother, Joseph Kling of Lewes; a sister, Genevieve Irwin of Royal Oak, Mich.; three grandchildren, John Wesley Kling of Wyoming, Jennifer Scott of Felton and Leslie Kling of Newark; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m., Tuesday, July 26, in the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, where a Masonic service will be observed.
Services will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 27, in the funeral home. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Dover.

Betty A. Boone,
retired from Playtex
Betty A. Boone, 75, of Magnolia, died Friday, July 22, 2005, in Westminster Village Nursing Center.
Mrs. Boone was born May 24, 1930, in Harrington, daughter of the late John and Bertha Moore.
She had worked for Playtex for 45 years doing clerical work.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles G. Boone, in 2003; two brothers and a sister.
She is survived by two sisters, Pauline Reen of Lawton, Okla. and Evelyn Sawyer of Billingham, Mass.; six nieces and nephews, Shirley McDougall of Georgetown, Fred Wazylkowski of Dover, Michael Wazylkowski of Dover, Sandy Crowe of Dover, Robert Wazylkowski of Bowers Beach and B.J. Tryon of Rehoboth Beach.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, June 26, in the Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road, Dover, where friends may call one hour earlier. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden.

Doris J. “Dottie” Dayton,

Doris J. “Dottie” Dayton, 78, formerly of Hoopers Island and presently of Satellite Beach, Fla., and Rehoboth Beach, died Friday, July 22, 2005 at her daughter’s home in Prospect, Ky.
Born on March 12, 1927 at Hoopers Island, Dorchester County, Md., she was the daughter of the late Capt. Wilbur and Mildred Irene Tall Flowers.
On January 15, 1945 she married Robert G. Dayton.
During World War II she worked in Baltimore, Md. at the Social Security Administration.
For most of her working life she was the co-owner with her husband of The Crab Pot Restaurant in Rehoboth Beach.
Dottie was proud to be from “The Island” and enjoyed returning whenever she could. She spent most of the time at her homes in Rehoboth Beach and Satellite Beach, Fla.
Surviving is her husband of 60 years, Robert G. Dayton of Satellite Beach, Fla., and Rehoboth Beach; two daughters, Darlene D. Figel and her husband Walt of Castle Rock, Colo. and Sandra D. Rawlins and her husband John of Prospect, Ky.; two sisters, Helen Wallace of Cockeysville, Md., Anna Brotemarkle and her husband David of Melbourne, Fla.;, five grandchildren, Scott Bickell of Seattle, Wash., Andrew Figel of Denver, Colo., Bridgett R. Strickler and her husband Stuart of Goshen, Ky., Angela R. Wetherton and her husband Lee also of Goshen, Ky., John C. Rawlins III and his wife Laura of Louisville, Ky; four great-grandchildren Reece Wetherton, Nora Wetherton, Caitlin Strickler and Bethany Strickler.
Funeral services will be held at noon, Wednesday, July 27th at Noon at Hosier Memorial United Methodist Church, Fishing Creek, Md.  Officiating at the service will be The Rev. Joseph Kelly.  Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery.

Ella V. Donovan,

Ella V. Donovan, 82, of Milton died Sunday, July 24, 2005, in Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Donovan had been a seamstress for Milton Manufacturing Co., in Milton for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Emma Lofland Lawson; her first husband, Uhland Johnson Sr.; and her second husband, John P. Donovan.
She is survived by a son and a daughter-in-law, Ukie Jr. and Connie Johnson of Milton; a sister, Hattie McBroom of Lafayette, Ind.; a brother, William Lawson of Milton; two grandsons and their wives, Ukie III and Dawn Johnson and Jimmy and Jill Johnson; five great-grandchildren, U.J. Johnson, Nicole Johnson, Taylor Johnson, Nate Johnson and Joey Frederick Johnson; and two stepchildren, Donald Johnson and Dottie Dukes.
Services will be 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 26, in Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal St., Milton, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Milton.

 
Dr. Walter Zane Collings,
research engineer
Dr. Walter Zane Collings Sr., 70 of Newark, died Thursday, July 21, 2005, in Elkton, Md.
A native Delawarean, Dr. Collings was born in Lewes on July 9, 1935. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees and doctorate in aerospace engineering from the University of Delaware. He was a research engineer with the Department of Defense, retiring from the Pentagon in 1992. A genealogy enthusiast, Dr. Collings was a member of the Historical Society of Cecil County and the Sons of the American Revolution.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia L. “Ginger” Nacrelli; three children, Kelley Wood Collings of Philadelphia, Pa, Walter Zane Collings Jr. and his wife, Kathy, of Saginaw, Mich. and C. Vance Collings and his wife, Erin, of Martinsburg, W.Va.; his father, Walter A. Collings of Millsboro; his sister, Shirley Maloney and her husband, James, of Rehoboth Beach; five grandchildren, Qudsiyyah, Aaliyah, Charlie Zane, Carter Zane and Kaya; and a niece and nephew, Stacie and Mark.
The funeral services will be held privately.

Dorothy D. Brown,

Dorothy D. Brown, 81, of Rehoboth Beach, formerly of Claymont, died Thursday, July 21, 2005, at Lewes Convalescent Center with family by her side. 
She graduated from P.S. DuPont High School and Goldey Beacom College.  She was last employed by Friends School of Wilmington, in the Guidance Department. Dot was preceded in death by her husband of more than 55 years, George A. Brown Sr. and her brother, Robert W. “Bud” Day. 
She is survived by her son, George A. Brown Jr. and his wife, Sonia, of San Jose, Calif.; and her daughter, Judith B. Talley and her husband, Gerald, of Rehoboth Beach.  She was grandmother to three granddaughters, Kristine Talley of Rehoboth Beach and Serena and Lindsey Brown of San Jose, Calif.  She is also survived by her sister, Marie Wendel of Ojai, Calif. Dot was a dedicated member of Hillcrest-Bellefonte United Methodist Church in Wilmington for 65 years.  She was very active in United Methodist Women, serving as president and also taught Sunday school for many years.  Dot was a Girl Scout leader in Claymont during the 1960s. Upon moving to Rehoboth Beach, Dot joined Bethel United Methodist Church in Lewes where she enjoyed teaching Sunday School and being a part of United Methodist Women, Bible Study, Prayer Group and Book Club. A memorial service will be held at Bethel United Methodist Church in August.  Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Lewes.  Interment will be private. Dorothy Jackson Holston,

Dorothy Jackson Holston, 90, of Lewes, died Wednesday, July 20, 2005, at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes.orn in Brookview, Md., Mrs. Holston was the daughter of the late Augusta Lee and Mary Frances Jackson. Mrs. Holston was a homemaker. She was an active member of Groome United Methodist Church, where she played the piano for 23 years. She was a past member of the Eastern Star, Mizbah Chapter #64 in East New Market, Md.rs. Holston is survived by a daughter, Sandy Hunsicker and her husband, George, of Lewes; a son, John E. Holston Jr. and his wife, Paula, of Hebron, Md.; and stepdaughter, Jacqueline Fooks and her husband, Lee, of Seaford. She is also survived by three grandchildren, George Hunsicker Jr., Gina McClanahan and Thomas Holston; nine great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren, Eric Fooks and Rodney Fooks; five stepgreat-grandchildren; and five stepgreat-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Holston was predeceased by her husband, John Edward Holston Sr.; and one great-grandson, Jeremy Joseph McClanahan.
The funeral service will be held Friday, July 22, at Groome United Methodist Church, Savannah Road, Lewes, at 11 a.m. The Rev. William Hopkins will officiate. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Bethel United Methodist Cemetery, Lewes.

Sarah “Sally” Elizabeth Tompkins Gorecki, 70, of Lewes, died Tuesday, July 19, 2005, at  her residence. 
Mrs. Gorecki was born Jan. 26, 1935 in Penns Grove, N.J., the daughter of the late Paul Tompkins and Geneva Ray Wood Tompkins Hartnett of Milford. 
Mrs. Gorecki moved to Lewes 10 years ago with her husband.  She was a homemaker who loved to read; she was a member of St. Jude The Apostle Catholic Church and she loved spending time with her family. 
She is survived by her husband of almost 49 years, John Gorecki; two sons, John Gorecki and his wife Eileen of New Castle, and Michael Gorecki and his wife Alanna of Middletown; seven grandchildren; two sisters, Gail Cunningham and JoAnn Hite, both of West Virginia;  and her brother, Edward Hartnett of Dover. 
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, July 22, 11 a.m., at St. Jude The Apostle Church, on Route 1 just north of Five Points, where friends may visit one hour prior to the Mass; Father Jim Hreha will be the officiant.   
Interment will be at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bear.

Lawrence P. “Larry” Isaacs, 87, of Rehoboth Beach, formerly of Lincoln, died Monday, July 18, 2005, in his home with his family present.
Mr. Isaacs was born June 27, 1918, in Bridgeville, son of the late Edgar F. Sr. and Delema Wilson Isaacs.
He was a farmer, and his training for this occupation started in his early years. He arose hours before school as a youth to help milk the family’s cows, and then delivered the milk via mule-drawn wagon to the 500-some families in the Greenwood area. He and his brother, Penn, formed a business partnership with their father, Edgar F. Isaacs & Sons, growing corn, selling strawberry plants and raising purebred Hampshire hogs and broiler chickens. Later, they grew asparagus, which required handcutting then, and also grew peas and lima beans for the Campbell Soup Co. Their success was greatly attributed to several loyal, longtime employees.
He was a lover of nature, travel, golf and attending University of Delaware football games. He was a kind and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and his friends consistently described him as “a true gentleman.”
Mr. Isaacs was a lifelong Methodist. He was a member for more than 50 years of the Avenue United Methodist Church in Milford, and most recently was attending the Epworth United Methodist Church in Rehoboth Beach. He was a member for decades of the Milford Lions Club and was a member of the Shawnee Country Club in Milford and the Rehoboth Beach Country Club. He and his wife were volunteers for more than 10 years, delivering Meals on Wheels to homebound patients in the Rehoboth Beach and Lewes areas even into their mid-80s.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Lillian I. Martin; and two brothers, Simeon Pennewill “Penn” Isaacs and Edgar F. Isaacs Jr.
He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Dorothy M. Isaacs; three daughters, Kay I. Greene of Lincoln, Susan C. Isaacs of Milton and Beth Isaacs of Silver Spring, Md.; two grandchildren, Bernhard L. “Ben” Tebbens and Bonnie T. Twilley, both of Lincoln; and three great-grandchildren, Benjamin I. Tebbens of Milford, Brian M. Twilley of Newark and Amanda N. Twilley of Lincoln.
Celebration of Life services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, July 23, in the Avenue United Methodist Church, 20 N. Church St., Milford, where friends may call from 10:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.
Burial will be in the Milford Community Cemetery.

Granville Burton Stewart,

Granville Burton Stewart, 64, of Lewes died Sunday, July 17, 2005, in his home surrounded by his loving family. He was 64.
Mr. Stewart was born June 22, 1941, in Lewes, son of the late Louis and Helena Parker Stewart.
He was a 1959 graduate of William C. Jason High School and earned his bachelor’s degree in education from Delaware State College in 1964.
Mr. Stewart served honorably from 1965 to 1968 in the U.S. Army, a portion of which he spent in the Vietnam War. He received the National Defense Service and the Good Conduct medals.
Upon returning home, he began his professional career in education starting in the Laurel School District for one year. He then went to the Cape Henlopen School District where he retired after 18 years.
He was an avid reader and history buff and enjoyed collecting and refinishing antiques. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Mr. Stewart was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10638 and a 30-year member of the American Legion Post 17 in Lewes.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.
He is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Zona and Jose Saez of Milford and Tamika Stewart of Newark; two grandchildren, Jordan Saez and Journey Saez, both of Milford; two sisters, Sarah Stewart and Antoinette Handy, both of Lewes; a brother and a sister-in-law, Kenyon and Norvis Parker of Frederick, Md.; his former wife of 22 years, Louise Maull; and a host of nieces, and nephews.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Friday, July 22, in the Friendship Baptist Church, West 4th Street, Lewes.

Thomas J. Radzius, age 66 of Middletown and Rehoboth Beach, died Monday, July 18, 2005, at the Beebe Medical Center in Lewes.
Mr. Radzius was born in Pittsburgh, Pa., Feb. 2, 1939, son of the late John and Marie Szymoniak Radzius. A member of UAW Local #435, he was employed with General Motors at the Boxwood Road site in Wilmington, retiring in 1993 after 29 years of service. In his leisure time Mr. Radzius greatly enjoyed gardening, trips to the beach, and, most especially, crab fishing with his beloved grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Marlane S. Weismiller Radzius; four daughters, Karen L. Zaremba and her husband, Ed, of Bear, Denise L. Boyles and her husband, Randy, Lynnette R. Baker and her husband, Jim, and Ladawn M. Barba and her husband, Vince, all of Middletown; three sisters, Dorothy Napolitana of Pittsburgh, Patricia O’dato of Jefferson Hills, Pa. and Helen Metro of Lewes; and seven grandchildren, Alyssa Barba, JT Baker, Julia Barba, Joshua Boyles, Amanda Baker, Sarah Zaremba and Megan Boyles.

John T. Elliott Sr., 87, of Bridgeville, died Monday, July 18, 2005, at his residence. 
He was born Nov. 1, 1917 son of the late William and  Naomi Clark Elliott.
Mr. Elliott served eight years in the U.S. Marine Corp, first in China and then in the Pacific Theatre, World War II.  He was a dairy farmer in Frederica for seven years then an agricultural farmer until 1998.   While farming, he also was employed with the Department of Agriculture in Georgetown.  He loved playing card games and Dominoes, and he was an avid reader of mysteries and western books.  
Mr. Elliott is survived by his wife Sarah Conaway Elliott; two daughters, Barbara Truitt and her husband Arnold and Janet Scarborough and her husband Lewis, all of Georgetown; two sons, John Thomas Elliott Jr. and wife Maria of Bridgeville and David W. Elliott of Frederica; seven grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and one sister, Mildred West of Laurel, DE.  
Memorial services will be held Saturday, July 23, at 11 a.m., at the Cannon United Methodist Church, Route 18, about three miles west of Route 13, Cannon, with the Rev. Kathleen H. Goetchius, 79, of Rehoboth Beach, died Sunday, July 17, 2005, at Christiana Medical Center in Christiana. Mrs. Goetchius was born April 22, 1926 in New York City, N.Y. to the late George S. and Johanna Itczak Litz. 
Mrs. Goetchius was an auxiliary member of the American Legion Post 5 in Rehoboth Beach. In 1986 she retired from Klemtner Advertising Inc., a New York City pharmaceutical advertising agency subsidiary of Saatchi & Saatchi, where she was manager of the editorial department. During her retirement she continued to do freelance editing and rewriting.
Her husband, Albert W. Goetchius, died in 1998. 
Mrs. Goetchius is survived by many lifelong friends, Helen Kelly and Patricia and Michael Hoffman Sr. of Middletown, N.Y.; Kathleen Hoffman-Sanin and her husband Norman Sanin and their children, and Ellen Mary and Adam Peter of Washington, D.C.; Michael Hoffman Jr. and his wife Stephanie of Goshen, N.Y.; two brothers, Stanley and Randolph Litz, both of New York City; a sister, Marion Steele of Hebron, Conn.; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 9 a.m., Monday, July 25, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, with Pastor Randy Booth officiating. Following there will be an 11 a.m. chapel committal service at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro, where Mrs. Goetchius will be interred with her husband.

Thomas John Chinchar, of Lewes, died July 14, 2005 at home. He was born June 30, 1937 in Hopelawn, N.J. to the late Mamie and Michael Chinchar.
Mr. Chinchar was a retired electrician from IBEW local 358, Perth Amboy, N.J, and had been a partner in his own electrical business prior to retirement. He had served as president and a business representative of IBEW local 358. He served as a machinist mate in the U.S. Navy and as a sergeant in the U.S. Air Force. He was a life member of the American Legion Post 28. 
He is  survived by his wife of 41 years, Hester  Chinchar; a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Jason Ford of New York City, N.Y.; three sisters, Arlene Dunphy of Belleville, N.J., Dolores Forziatti of Edison, N.J. and Gloria Kuran of Hopelawn, N.J.; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 26, at the Lutheran Church of Our Savior, 7 Bay Vista Drive, Rehoboth Beach. Burial with military honors will be held at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, near Millsboro.

Michele Deppen Matruder, 39 of Wilmington, died peacefully at home Sunday, July 17, 2005, surrounded by her loving family.
Michele was raised in Wilmington and graduated from Concord High School in 1984. Michele was attending Delaware Technical & Community College in Stanton, studying to be a nurse, her lifelong goal, when she became ill. Michele enjoyed watching her children participate in sports and coached CYO girls’ basketball for Holy Rosary parish.
Michele is survived by her loving husband of 16 years, Mark Robert Matruder; her children, Ryan, Amanda and Lindsey, all at home; her parents, Robert and Patricia Deppen of Wilmington; her in-laws, Don and Ruth Matruder Smythe of Rehoboth; her maternal grandmother, Dorothy McCullin of Wilmington; great grandfather, Karl A.H. Krause of New Ringold, Pa.; her sisters, Andrea and her husband, Steve Romito, and their two sons, Michael and Andrew, of Slidell, La., and Danielle and her husband, Eric Harris, and their daughter, Kaitie, of Newark; and her brother, Justin Deppen and his fiancée, Monica Diflo, of Hockessin; her sister-in-law, Kim and her husband, Albert J. Anna Demmer Reuling, 69, of Rehoboth Beach, died Saturday, July 16, 2005, at her residence.
She was born June 7, 1936 in Munchen, Germany to the late George and Amali Gottlob Demmer.
Mrs. Reuling was employed for many years by Macy's Department Store at the Christiana Mall. She then worked for 10 years at the K-Mart in Rehoboth Beach until her death. She was an avid bowler for the local senior league. She loved ceramics to the extent that she owned and taught classes at Anna's Ceramics at the Brookside Shopping Center in the 1970s and early 1980s. She was a member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church Newark.
She was married to Richard H. Reuling Sr. for 28 years; he died July 14, 1996. She is survived by her children, Joseph "Butch" Moore, Elizabeth Moore, Patrick Moore Sr., Rebecca Thompson, Richard Reuling Jr., Calvin Reuling, Sue Davis and Bobby Reuling; 19 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Ralph D. Morgan,

Ralph D. Morgan, 41, of Milton, died Sunday, July 10, 2005, in an airplane accident. Mr. Morgan was born July 23, 1963, in Lewes, to Richard and Patricia (Short) Morgan, currently of Summerfield, Fla.
Mr. Morgan was raised in Rehoboth Beach. He was employed as a service technician for Suburban Propane. He enjoyed working on anything mechanical for himself and others. Ralph was an extremely caring man who was a devoted and loving husband and father. He loved spending time with his children and family.
Mr. Morgan died doing what he loved. He was a member of the Mid Atlantic R.V. Wing Team. Ralph was a certified formation pilot in addition to being qualified to fly aerobatic maneuvers in formation. He flew with the Vultures Precision Formation Team for more than four years.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife Diane Morgan, his son Joshua Morgan of Milton, his daughter Carolyn Morgan of Huntington, W.V., his stepdaughter Jennifer Sechrist of Milton; his grandson Daniel Morgan of Huntington, two sisters, Laurie Morgan of Lewes and Lisa Morgan-Sloan of Buford, Ga., and his maternal grandmother Dorothy Short.

Michael C. Haseldine,
retired entrepreneur
Michael Cyril Haseldine, 79, of Milton, died Saturday, July 16, 2005, at home surrounded by his family.
Mr. Haseldine was born in Nottinghampshire, England, Aug. 30, 1925, lived in Canada and in many United States locations including New York, Massachusetts and several Delaware cities, including Rehoboth Beach and New Castle. He spent most of his professional life as an entrepreneur. Over the past several decades he worked in the poultry industry on Delmarva and in other areas of the country.
As a youth growing up in England during the Nazi Germany onslaught of Europe, he left school to join the fight in 1942. With the enlistment age of 18, the 17-year-old kept his true age a secret and enlisted. From 1942 to 1947 Mr. Haseldine fought for his native country, joining the British army and participated in D-Day at Sword Beach. Mr. Haseldine was involved in the liberation of concentration camps and after the Nazis were defeated, Mr. Haseldine, a master sergeant, was stationed in Germany as part of the British Army of the Rhine.
After World War II he moved to Canada and met his future wife, Marjorie May Shaw and the two were married in Jamestown, N.Y,. May 26, 1956. The couple has lived in Milton for the past five years.
He enjoyed reading all types of books and periodicals and was an aviation buff and former pilot. He will be remembered for his English charm, British accent and vivid stories, all told with humor and a twinkle in his eye.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his son, Michael Jr. of Annapolis, Md.; daughters Suzanne Thurman of Milton, Sally Geisser of Rockville, Md. and Jane Haseldine-Cole of Dover; a daughter-in-law, Jan Haseldine; sons-in-law, Christopher Thurman and Darrel Cole; and grandchildren, Ian and Carly Thurman, Emma Geisser and Thea and Eva Haseldine.
A memorial service will be held at Short Funeral Services Milton Chapel, 416 Federal St., Thursday, July 21, with visitation at 4:30 p.m. and the service at 5 p.m.

Sylvia M. Bonk,

Sylvia M. Bonk, 87, passed away peacefully July 12, 2005, at Christiana Hospital.
Sylvia was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was the daughter of Percival and Lettie Marshall, and the granddaughter of lighthouse keepers living for a time at the renowned Cape Henlopen Lighthouse. She grew up in Wilmington and Lewes, graduating from Lewes High School in 1935. She retired from the Diamond State Telephone Co., where she was a telephone operator for 22 years and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers retirees group. She was an avid quilter and loved to crochet. She took great pleasure giving her handmade quilts and baby blankets to friends and family. After retirement, she enjoyed taking bus trips throughout the country with her husband and friends, and spending time at the beach.
She was predeceased by her husband, Vincent, who died in 1999; and her brother, Henry Marshall. She is survived by her daughter, Carol Dorsney and her husband, Laurence; son, David Bonk and his fiancée, Grace Roberts; and grandchildren, Suzanne Shields and her husband, Thomas, Kenneth Dorsney and his wife, Constance, Jaime Haase and her husband, Brian, and Erin Bonk. She is also survived by seven great grandchildren, Thomas, Matthew, John, Stephanie and Jessica Shields and Tyler and Augusta Dorsney. She also leaves behind her beloved cats, Maudie and Maddie, who gave her great comfort and company in recent years.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held July 16, at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church in Woodacres. Interment was in All Saints Cemetery.

Doris M. Frey, 82, of Long Neck and formerly of Wilmington, passed away at her home, Friday, July 15, 2005.
She was born Oct. 9, 1922, in Salem, N.J., and was the daughter of the late Charles and Georgeanna Banks. Doris worked in the early years at Anchor Hocking in Salem and on the ferry boat between Delaware and New Jersey, and held many various jobs before becoming a full time homemaker. She was also a pleasure to talk with, always wanting to help people, and she will be dearly missed by all.
In addition to her parents, Doris was predeceased by a son, Ronald W. Frey, in 2000; brother, Milton Banks; and sister, Vera Allen. She will be dearly missed by her loving husband, Gene F. Frey Sr.; one son, Gene F. Frey Jr. and daughter-in-law, Kathy of Middletown; one grandson, Brian G. Frey and his wife, Jennifer, of MiddIetown; one brother, Charles V. Banks and his wife, Jackie; brother-in-law, Forrest Kirk; along with many nieces and nephews. Doris was expecting her first great-grandson in October.

Harvey Douglas Harmon of Jimtown in Lewes, died after a brief illness, Friday, July 15, 2005, in Beebe Medical Center. He was 88.
Mr. Harmon was born July 11, 1917, near Lewes, son of the late Harvey Hickman and Helen Draine Harmon. He was known to many as Douglas and grew up in Lewes, later moving to Wilmington.
He worked for the Wilmington Water Department and E.I. Dupont Nemours for more than 25 years, retiring in 1977.
Mr. Harmon was a member of Star in the East Lodge 1, Corinithian Consistory 5 and Suakim Temple 60, all in Wilmington.
He is survived by his wife, Rita M. Newman Harmon of Wilmington; two sons and two daughters-in-law, James R. “Jimmy” and Barbara Harmon of Lewes and William D. “Billy” and Juanita Harmon of Wilmington; a stepson and a stepdaughter-in-law, Victor and Minnie Lee Newman; two daughters and a son-in-law, Charlotte Harmon Givens of Dover and Rita Ann and Sidney Jacobs of Wilmington; 17 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; a brother, Charles L. Harmon of Millsboro; and an uncle and his wife, Mannie and Delema Harmon of Millsboro.
Services will be at 1 p.m., Wednesday, July 20, at Israel United Methodist Church on Plantation Road in Lewes, where friends may call two hours earlier. A Masonic service will be at noon.

Betty J. Eibling, 74, of Bethany Beach, died at her home Sunday July 17, 2005.
She was born in Hickory, N.C. and was a graduate of St. Stephen’s High School of the Springs Road area of Hickory.Betty was a very active lifelong church member with Lutheran churches in many parts of the country.
Serving as chairman of the altar guild, choir member, and Bible study teacher, most recently she served with the Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Rehoboth Beach.
She served as vice president of the Mid-Atlantic Chapter of Lutheran Brotherhood and was the volunteer congregational coordinator for Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Joseph H. Eibling; three sons, Russell Eibling of Aiken, S.C., Michael Eibling of Buena Vista, Co., and Frederick Eibling of Bel-Air, Md.; two brothers, Deams Huffman of Matthews, N.C. and Tim Huffman of Hickory; two sisters, Gloria Wessel of Colombia, Md. and Martha Huffman of Charlotte, N.C.; and six grandchildren.A memorial service will be held Saturday July 23, at 11 a.m. at the Lutheran Church of Our Savior, 7 Bay Vista Road, Rehoboth Beach.

Paul Jones Hughes Jr.

Paul Jones Hughes Jr. of Lewes died Monday, July 11, 2005, in his home, on his 80th birthday.
Mr. Hughes, a native of Kentucky, spent the last 31 years as a Lewes resident. He was an avid antiques dealer and collector and worked for a number of years as a news reporter for “The Whale” and the “Delaware Coast Press.”
Before relocating to Lewes, Mr. Hughes lived with his family in suburban Baltimore, where he spent the bulk of his career in health services fundraising. He was employed by the National Foundation for the March of Dimes and United Cerebral Palsy, serving as UCP’s executive director of central Maryland. He later served as executive director of the Delaware Kidney Foundation.
In his spare time, Mr. Hughes often traveled to antique shows in the area to buy and sell merchandise. He enjoyed frequenting auctions and flea markets in Kent and Sussex counties and on the Maryland Eastern Shore, and was a dealer at Antique Village in Lewes.
A lifelong sports fan, he closely followed the Baltimore professional teams.
Mr. Hughes was born July 11, 1925, in Ashland, Ky., the son of Paul Jones Hughes Sr. and Jesse Owens Hughes. He was an alumnus of Male High School in Louisville, Ky., and Centre College in Danville, Ky. He was a graduate of the University of Baltimore Law School.
He is survived by his sister, Betty Hughes Meredith of Annapolis, Md.; his former wife, Margarita Minich Hughes of Lexington, Ky.; three sons, Paul III of Nashville, Tenn.; Henry of Birmingham, Ala.; and David of Bear; three nieces; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Edward H. Hughes of London, in 1992.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, July 18, at St. George’s Episcopal Chapel on Beaver Dam Road in Angola, with the Rev. Max J. Wolf officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
A reception will follow in the parish hall.

Frank Somers Frazier,

Frank Somers Frazier, age 94, of Lewes, died Tuesday, July 12, 2005, at the home of his daughter, Linda Coco of Lewes, under the care of Delaware Hospice. He was born Oct. 12, 1910, in Baltimore, to the late Frank and Mary “Miller” Frazier. Mr. Frazier was a longtime resident of Canton Highland Town area near Baltimore.
Mr. Frazier had been employed for many years as a warehouse foreman by Ship Chandler Supply, near Baltimore. He enjoyed horse racing, darts and playing pool. He was best known for his great sense of humor and the love of his family.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Frazier was preceded in death by his wife Loretta (Praglowski) Frazier in 2000. He is survived by three daughters, Linda F. Coco, Geraldine Wisniewski of Millsboro, and Marlene Banaszewski of Lewes; one son Frank Somers Frazier Jr. of Stevensville, Md.; nine grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; and one half-brother Robert Baker of Baltimore.

Thomas W. McLaughlin,
known as ‘Sweet Tom’
Thomas “Tommy” William McLaughlin, age 67, of Millsboro, passed away from lung cancer on Tuesday, July 12, 2005, at his residence.  He was born Aug. 16, 1937. in Newark, N.J., to the late Thomas and Gertrude (Hornig) McLaughlin.
After serving two years in the U.S. Marine Corp, he went to work as a Bartender at Union Elks 1583, Union, N.J., for 30 years where he was known as “Sweet Tom.”  After moving to Delaware in 1990, he went to work as a bartender at the Rehoboth Beach Country Club for 12 years, where he was fondly called “Grouchy Old Man” by the female wait staff.  Mr. McLaughlin loved fishing and the beach. 
He is survived by his significant other of 30 years, Mary Catherine Montagne, a daughter, Lori Yurchak and husband Gary of Edison, N.J., two sons, Michael McLaughlin of Edison, N.J. and Thomas McLaughlin and wife Kathy of Maynardville, Tenn.; two step-sons, Ken Meisch and wife Debbie of Union, N.J., and Gary Meisch and wife Anne of Scotch Plains, N.J.; three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and four step-grandchildren; and two  sisters, Gertrude Barck-owski of Port Reading, N.J. and Judy Cantalopo of Lawrence Harbor, N.J.

Joseph H. Evans,
active firefighter
Joseph Harold Evans, age 61, of Bridgeville, died suddenly Sunday, July 10, 2005, at the scene of a fire alarm. He was born July 1, 1944, in Milford, to the late Joseph E. and Rebecca “Hulliger” Evans.
Mr. Evans was an agricultural farmer all his life. He was also a telephone lineman first for Diamond State and then Bell Atlantic for 33 years retiring in 1998. Mr. Evans had received the Spirit of Excellence Award from Bell Atlantic and was a member of the telephone pioneers.
He was a life member of the Bridgeville Volunteer Fire Department, joining in 1964 where he was named fireman of the year in 1968. He had also held over the years the positions of treasurer, chief engineer, engineer, first assistant chief and second assistant chief.
Mr. Evans had also held positions in several other fire organizations which included past president of the State Chief’s Association, DelMarVa Fireman’s Association, Sussex County Fire Chief’s Association and Sussex County Fireman’s Association as well as having served on numerous other committee appointments throughout the years. In 1962, he was a member of the Blue Gold All Star Football team.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Evans was predeceased by his wife of 23 years, Beverly I. “Lucks” Evans in 1993, and his sister Gail Elizabeth Evans in 2003.
He is survived by his daughter, Kim N. (Evans) VanBuskirk, his son-in-law Andrew E. VanBuskirk and his son Kevin Evans, all of Bridgeville, and two grandchildren Beverly Delaney VanBuskirk and Cassie Drew VanBuskirk.
Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Hardesty Chapel, 202 Laws Street, Bridgeville, where the family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m., Friday, July 15. Joseph W. Strong Sr.
Navy veteran
Joseph Wilbur Strong Sr. of Chestertown died Saturday, July 9, 2005, in Christiana Care-Christiana Hospital, Newark. He was 83.
Mr. Strong was born Oct. 21, 1921, in Chestertown, Md., son of the late James Edgar Sr. and Hester Long Strong.
He was a 1938 graduate of Rock Hall High School.
Mr. Strong enlisted in the U.S. Navy in Pensacola, Fla., where he received flight training. He served in the United States during World War II at the rank of lieutenant, flying out of Cape May, N.J.
He returned to Chestertown following the war. From 1951 until 1974, he owned and operated C.W. Kibler and Sons Inc., a business dealing in grain, fertilizer, lime, seed and coal. He also owned and operated Kibler’s Marina from 1959 until 1995, and the Old Wharf Inn from 1975 until 1985. He retired in 1995.
He enjoyed traveling with his wife and spending time at their beach home in Rehoboth Beach. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf and his family.
Mr. Strong was a member of Rock Hall Yacht Club, Chester River Yacht and Country Club and Old St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Kent. He served as a Kent County commissioner in 1963 and 1964, and on the board of directors of Chesapeake Bank and Trust. He also was a member of the Chestertown Cruising Club and the Fairlee Men’s Club.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death on Nov. 12, 2004, by his wife, Florence Walls Strong, whom he had married Oct. 23, 1943.
He is survived by a daughter, Diana Strong Williams of Chestertown; a son, Joseph W. Strong Jr. of Wyoming; five grandchildren, Julie Kennedy, Richard J. Strong, Susan Emeigh, Jessie-Lee Williams and Natalie V. Williams; and six great-grandchildren - Matthew, Brandon, Austin, Seth, Dylan and Madison.
Services will be 11 a.m., Friday, July 15, in St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Kent, Chestertown.
Burial will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery.

Emma Mae Welsh,

Emma Mae Welsh, 92, expired Sunday, July 10, 2005, at Harbor Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in Lewes, where she had been a resident for the past two years.
Born in Berwick, Pa., to Irvin and Mabel Rex Becker, Mae spent her childhood in Tamaqua, Pa., and most of her life in Coaldale, Pa., where she worked as a sewing machine operator until her retirement in 1974. She moved to Main Towers in Newark in 1980. She was of the Christian faith, a lifetime member of the Aetna Hose Hook and Ladder Ladies Auxiliary and the Newark Senior Center.
Mae was preceded in death by her husband, Karl; daughter, Carol Gazdick; and sisters, Addora Becker and Stella Williams. She is survived by two of her three children, Jack and his wife, Bernie, of Lewes and Donna of Marietta, Pa.; and son-in-law, Donald Gazdick of Landenberg, Pa. She is also survived by grandchildren, Linda Angelo and her husband, Mike, of Dover, Donald Gazdick Jr. of Landenberg, Pa., Jack Welsh Jr. and his wife, Marci, of Purcellville, Va., Mark Welsh and his wife, Becky, of Chadds Ford, Pa., Holly Galeschewski and her husband, Gene, of Mount Joy, Pa., Heather Heilman-Loercher and her husband, Scott, of Wrightsville, Pa.; and great grandchildren, Michael, David and Christopher Angelo, all of Dover, Stephen, Megan, Kristin and Kaitlin Gazdick. all of Newark, Jack D. John James Tulowitzki, 36, of Midland, Pa., died on Saturday, July 9, 2005.
Mr. Tulowitzki was born in Wilmington, on April 1, 1969. A construction worker by profession, he was a member of Laborer’s Union Local 199 in Delaware. He then worked for Sam Smith in Midland, Pa., for several years. He was also a member of VFW Post 8168 in Midland.

Kathleen A. Moore, 62 and a 12-year resident of Wilmington, formerly of Upper Chichester, Pa., died July 10, 2005, at St. Francis Hospital in Wilmington.
Kathleen was born in Chester, Pa., to the late Edward J. and Hazel M. Leo Phillips. While raising children, she went to nursing school, where she graduated second in her class. She was an LPN for 36 years, working at the Crozer-Chester Medical Center and Sacred Heart Hospital, retiring in 1995. She was a member of Richardson Park Methodist Church. She was open hearted, an avid reader, and loved children, animals and country music. She was devoted to her home and family.
Survivors include her husband of 21 years, Leonard E. Moore; children, Kevin Burns of Wilmington, Lawrence Burns of Claymont, Kathleen Burns and Maureen Lundgren, both of Hummelstown, Pa., and Roberta McDonnell of Linwood, Pa.; and stepchildren, Joseph Moore of Dover, Robert Moore of Wilmington, Lenny Moore of Upland, Pa., Cherie Campbell of New Castle and Donna Macaron of New Castle. Other survivors include brothers, Edward Phillips of Claymont and Mark Weinstein of Seattle, Wash.; one sister, Roberta Fessenbecker of Rehoboth Beach; and 24 grandchildren.
The funeral was held July 14, and interment was in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Aston, Pa.

Lynn Chadderdon,
former PG County Principal
Lynn Hobday Chadderdon, 64, a former teacher and elementary school principal, died June 27, 2005, in Chicago, from complications following an adult stem-cell transplant to treat myelofibrosis.
Ms. Chadderdon, originally Catherine Lynn Freedenburg, was born in the Hamilton neighborhood of Baltimore, and attended Eastern High School. She graduated from the University of Maryland and later received a master’s degree in education from Towson State University. A lifelong educator, she worked in Prince George’s County elementary schools as a teacher, helping teacher and teacher specialist. She was appointed principal of Robert Frost Elementary in Lanham, Md., in the mid 1980s and then moved to Magnolia Elementary School in Lanham in 1994. She retired for medical reasons in 1998.
While at Robert Frost Elementary, Ms. Chadderdon challenged her students to improve their reading and raise their test scores up to the Maryland state median. They happily watched their principal roller skate around the gym dressed in a tiger suit when they won a bet by achieving this remarkable goal.
Ms. Chadderdon lived in Baltimore, Towson, and for many years in Glenelg, Md. She was a longtime member of the Patuxent Greens Country Club in Laurel. She and her husband John actively retired to Rehoboth Beach, in 2003, where they were members of Shawnee Country Club.
Survivors include her husband of 26 years, John Chadderdon of Rehoboth Beach; three children, Geof Hobday of Arlington, Va., Will Hobday of Silver Spring, Md., and Michael Hobday of Finksburg, Md.; her father, Edward Freedenburg, of Baltimore; her brother, Edward Freedenburg, of Bel Air, Md.; three grandchildren, and two step-grandchildren. A memorial service for Ms. Chadderdon will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 16, at the Interfaith Center in Columbia, Md.

Marie T. Robinson, 84 of Wilmington was surrounded by her family when she passed away peacefully on Monday, July 11, 2005, at her residence.
Mrs. Robinson was a homemaker.
She was predeceased by her husband, William P. Robinson; and two daughters, Marian Rozenko and Theresa Robinson. She is survived by her sons, Patrick and his wife, Judi, of New Castle, Lawrence and his wife, Mary, of Rehoboth Beach, and Joseph and his wife, Laura, with whom she resided for several years; her daughters, Ida Mae Marshall of Newark, Marie Fitzpatrick and her husband, Pete, of Wilmington and Kathleen Maloney and her husband, Matt, of Middletown; 17 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.

Preston D. Hitchens of Millsboro died Saturday, July 9, 2005, in his home. He was 72.
He was born in Millsboro, son of the late Leroy Byrd and Elsie Hitchens Hooper.
Mr. Hitchens was a lumberman for Robert Jennings Pulpwood Co. in Milton, retiring many years ago due to disability.
He is survived by a son, Preston Hitchens Jr. of New Jersey; a daughter, Norma Drummond of New Jersey; two aunts, Louise Adkins and Addie Davis, both of Millsboro; an uncle, Thurman Hitchens of Smyrna; and his companion of 42 years, Eunice Sample of Millsboro, her children, Mary Louise Sample and Sammy Sample, both of Millsboro and Rebecca Jones of Belltown and her two grandchildren.
Services were July 14, at Watson Funeral Home in Millsboro. The Rev. Erwin Williams will officiate.

Doris M. Wynes of Milford died Saturday, July 9, 2005, in Bayhealth Medical Center-Kent General Hospital, Dover. She was 80.
Mrs. Wynes was born in Lewes, daughter of the late John C. and Emma J. (Joseph) Mitchell.
She worked for many years at Milford Stitching and retired from Acme Markets in Milford at age 70.
Mrs. Wynes was an avid collector of giraffes and chickens and was a NASCAR fan.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur E. Wynes, in 2003.
She is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Dave and Joan Wynes of Bridgeville, Theodore Wynes of Lincoln and Kevin and Joyce Wynes of Dover; four sisters, Hazel Zimmerman of Milton, Elizabeth Coverdale of Greenwood, Bernice Rogers of Waterford, Pa., and Gladys Austin of Milford; a brother, John Mitchell of Harrington; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Edgar V. Adkins Sr.,

Edgar V. Adkins Sr. of Lewes passed away from complications related to Alzheimer’s Disease at Autumn House in Viera, Fla., on July 6. He was 89.
He was born the eighth of nine children to Lucy Ellen and Isaac William Ryder Adkins in Snow Hill, Maryland, on September 26, 1915. He was vice president of his class and excelled in soccer at his high school in Princess Anne, Md. In 1937 he married Geraldine Taylor, and they soon settled in Lewes, where he owned and operated E.V. Adkins Oil Company for 45 years.
As he and his wife raised their family, he was an active member of Bethel United Methodist Church, Methodist Men, Lewes Rotary Club, and Jefferson Lodge 15 AF & AM. In addition to running his business, he was an avid investor in real estate and the stock market.
Family was the most important priority in his life. As his children were growing up, he spent most weekends riding horses or water skiing with them and taking his wife and children to visit extended family throughout Delaware and Maryland.
Edgar was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Geraldine Taylor Adkins, in 1987 and his daughter, Elizabeth Ellen Adkins in 1947. He was also predeceased by his parents, all eight of his brothers and sisters, his daughter-in-law, Ruth Adkins, and his grandson, Jerry Adkins.
He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Nancy Adkins; his son, Edgar V. Adkins Jr. and his wife, Berta, of Milton; his daughter, Charlotte Adkins Bastian and her husband Jim of Lewes; and his son, James W. Adkins and his wife Karin of Harbeson. He is also survived by eight grandchildren: Dwayne Adkins; Susan Adkins Layton and her husband, George; Catherine Bastian McCollough and her husband, Andy; Christine Bastian Gillan and her husband, Dave; Jay Bastian and his wife, Jennifer; Drew Adkins; Jamin Adkins; and Kaitlyn Adkins. He had nine great-grandchildren: Mary Adkins; Summer, Easton, and Rachel McCollough; Taylor, Grant, and Ross Gillan; and Molly and Jake Bastian. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Nellie Adkins, of Melbourne, Fla., his brother-in-law James Taylor and his wife, Bette, of Salisbury, Md., and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation was at Bethel United Methodist Church in Lewes, July 10. A memorial service was held at the church July 11. Burial will be private in Salisbury, Md.

Daniel W. Mullin,
World War II veteran
Daniel W. “Grumps” Mullin, 83, of Wilmington, passed away Wednesday, July 6, 2005, at Christiana Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
He was born and raised in Wilmington, the son of the late Charles I. and Lula J. Mullin. He attended Wilmington public schools and graduated from Wilmington High School.
He served with the 42nd U.S. Naval Construction Battalion (Seabees) in World War II, stationed in the Aleutian Islands. Dan was a carpenter by trade learning his craft at Healy Brothers in Wilmington. He later was employed by Hercules, where he retired as foreman of the carpenter shop after 42 years of dedicated service. He was a member of St. John the Beloved Church since 1963.
Mullin is survived by his bride of 58 years, Mary Ogden Mullin; his daughters, Margaret Mullin Abbott and her husband, Donnie, of Marshallton, and Marie Mullin Byrne and her husband, Michael P. James “Junnie” Barnes,
Ocean City employee
James “Junnie” Barnes of Georgetown died Monday, July 4, 2004, in Coastal Hospice at the Lake, Salisbury, Md. He was 56.
He was born in Wilson, N.C., son of the late James Williams and Gladys Mae Barnes.
He worked in waste management for the town of Ocean City, Md., for 25 years, retiring in 2004.
He is survived by his devoted friend of 29 years, Annie L. Stephens of Georgetown; two sons, Dion Stephens of Rehoboth Beach and James Barnes III of Georgetown; three daughters, Levette Stephens and Gladys Stephens, both of Georgetown and Renee Barnes of Bronx, N.Y.; two brothers, Jerome Barnes of Wilson and Moses L. Battle of Bronx; a sister, Brenda L. Barnes of Milton; a special friend, Leslie H. Collick of Snow Hill, Md.; 12 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were at Watson Funeral Home in Millsboro, July 9. Pastor Richard Jennings will officiate.
Burial will be in the New Bethel Cemetery, Berlin, Md.

Frances P. Garey,

Frances P. Garey of Milford died Thursday, July 7, 2005, in Heritage of Milford. She was 83.
She was born on July 13, 1921, in Milford, daughter of the late Charles and Bertha Stevenson Pearson.
She was employed for 42 years with Peoples Bank of Harrington, now Wilmington Trust, as a teller and later promoted to vice president. She retired in 1991.
She was an active member of the Calvary United Methodist Church in Milford and a member of the Harrington Moose Lodge 534.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rix M. Garey Jr. in 1985; two brothers, Charles Pearson and Orville Pearson; and two sisters, Jeannette Hall and Ellen Gohn.
She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, C. Rix and Brenda Garey of Beaumont, Texas, and Bruce A. Garey of Rehoboth Beach; two grandchildren, Angela L. Clinton of Houston, Texas, and Susan M. Garey of Beaumont; two great-grandchildren, Posie M. Clinton V and Jack Wilson Clinton, both of Houston; a niece, June Sapp of Milford; three nephews, Ronald Wix and his wife, Anne, of Clermont, Fla., Ron Simonin of McClain, Va., and Bill Pearson of Camden; and a special other, her son, Bruce’s dog, Onyx.
Services were held at Rogers Funeral Home Milford. Burial will be in Barratts Chapel Cemetery, Frederica.

Betty May Clifton of Milton died Thursday, July 7, 2005, in her home. She was 71.
Mrs. Clifton was born in Georgetown, daughter of the late Frank L. and Martha LeCates Holston.
She was a homemaker, a loving wife, mother and grandmother and enjoyed gardening, flower arranging and country music.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Otis Joseph Clifton; a daughter, Terri Clifton; a brother, Harry Holston; and a grandson, Rhett Clifton Malone.
Services were July 11 in the Chapel of Short Funeral Services in Milton. Burial will be in Henlopen Memorial Park, Milton.

Bobby Andrew Farrell Sr.

Bobby Andrew Farrell Sr. of Harrington died Thursday, July 7, 2005, in Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital, Milford. He was 60.
Mr. Farrell was born in Wilmington, son of the late George Dear and Pauline Farrell.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Mr. Farrell was a truck driver for Tidewater Express in Crisfield, Md., for 30 years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, George Dear.
He is survived by two sons, Bobby Farrell Jr. of Dover and Michael A. Farrell of Harrington; his companion, Brenda Farrell; two grandchildren, Kayla Farrell and Faith Farrell; three brothers, Charles Dear of Slaughter Beach, Kenny Dear of Harrington and Chris Dear of Milford; and five sisters, Cheryl Clausser of Milford, Ruth Ann Armour of Harrington, Pam Pase of Milford, Mabel Johnson of Milton and Hope Berter of Florida.
Services were July 11 at the Chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Home in Milford. Burial will be in Delaware Veterans Cemetery, Millsboro.

Lillian Coverdale Straw,
retired administrative worker
Lillian Coverdale Straw of South Dennis, Mass., and formerly of Lewes, died peacefully Monday, June 13, 2005, in Eagle Pond Rehabilitation and Living Center, South Dennis, where she had lived for 15 months. She was 97.
Mrs. Straw was born Jan. 19, 1908, in Lewes, daughter of the late George and Clara Coverdale.
She graduated from Lewes High School in 1925.
Mrs. Straw, for the next 17 years, worked for the Sussex Trust Co., in various departments. After marrying in 1944, she and her husband moved to Gaithersburg, Md., where they had an antique shop, and later to Bethesda, Md., where she served 13 years as an administrative assistant with the National Institutes of Health. They retired in 1967 and bought a home in South Dennis on Cape Cod, where they spent the rest of their lives.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert C. “Bob” Straw, originally of Chevy Chase, Md., in 1986; and two sisters, Marion C. Graves and Helena C. Macintire, both of whom had lived in Lewes.
She is survived by a sister, C. Emily Burton of Lewes; four nieces; and three nephews.
Graveside services were July 10 in the Bethel Methodist Cemetery on Savannah Road in Lewes, at which time the cremains of both Lillian and Bob were interred.

Gertrude MacMasters, 88, passed away at the Silver Lake Center in Dover, July 4, 2005.
Gertrude was born in Philadelphia, Pa., to Harold and Louetta Shankland. She had a career in fashion merchandising, working for Braunsteins in Wilmington and retiring from John Wanamaker in Alapocas. She was a skilled cook and enjoyed entertaining. She also loved playing bridge.
She was predeceased by her husband, George G. MacMasters Sr.; and a sister, Genevieve Walker. She is survived by her son, G. Greer MacMasters of Rehoboth Beach; and grandchildren, Deborah Milner of Detroit, Mich., Wayne MacMasters of Newport News, Va., Linda Farrall-Smith of Newark and Elaine Balcerak of Dover. She is also survived by eight beloved great grandchildren; a cousin, Betty Kirkwood of Fla.; and a niece, Elaine Benke of Pa.
A memorial service was held at the chapel of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Wilmington, July 11, 2005. Family and friends are invited. Burial will be private in Forest Hills Cemetery in Philadelphia, Pa.

William J. Baker
Navy Veteran
William J. Baker of Millsboro died Wednesday, July 6, 2005 in the St. Francis Hospital in Wilmington. He was 82.
Mr. Baker served in the Naval Reserves during World War II.
As a member of the Indian River Yacht Club, he is remembered for loving to be on the water.
Mr. Baker was a retired pier supervisor for the Getty Oil and Refinery Company.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John T. and Helen (Stewart) Baker; and brother, Jack Baker.
Mr. Baker was survived by his wife of 50 years, Ann D. Baker; two sons, William J. Baker and his wife Linda of Middletown, and Thom Baker of New York, N.Y.; a daughter Denise Ann Sherwood and her husband, Jeffery of New Castle, brother Richard Baker; and five grandchildren, Kelly, Jeffrey, and Matthew Sherwood, and Brittney and William J. Baker, III.
A mass of Christian burial was held July 11 at Mary Mother of Peace Catholic Church in Millsboro. Interment was at St. George’s Episcopal Cemetery near Lewes.

Dorothy M. Jones
Devoted mother
Dorothy M. Jones, 81, died Wednesday, July 6, 2005, at Crozer Chester Medical Center in Upland, Pa.
Dot was born in Chester to James and Anne Cane Hamilton where she was reared and educated. She attended Eddystone High School. She was a woman who devoted her life to her home and family. She had no greater joy than to teach about life and love to her grandchildren. She enjoyed sewing, jigsaw puzzles and crafts. Dot had wonderful zest for life itself. She was a member of the Marcus Hook Senior Citizens and a former member of the Marcus Hook Fire House Ladies Auxiliary.
Dot was the wife of the late William B. Jones, who died in 1971, the mother of the late Eddie Jones, who died in 1984 and the sister of the late Abert Quail, who died in 1971.
She is survived by three daughters, Betty Anne Testa of north Wilmington; Nancy Burgess of Marcus Hook, Pa., and Maryanne MacFadyen of north Wilmington; one son, William B. Jones of Rehoboth Beach; one sister, Elizabeth Loretta of Marcus Hook, Pa.; seven grandchildren; and one great grand-daughter.
Her funeral service and interment will be private.

Lois N. Reynolds, 77, of Milton and formerly of West Chester, Pa., passed away Saturday, July 9, 2005, at Lewes Convalescent Center.
Lois was born in Westboro, Ohio, daughter of the late Burt and Carrie Butters Nicely.
She had worked as a secretary for more than 20 years at West Chester University, retiring several years ago. After her retirement, she moved, along with her husband, from West Chester to Milton, where the couple resided for the past 10 years. She was a member of the New Life Bible Fellowship Church in Long Neck and had attended Grace Church in Milton. After moving to Delaware, she volunteered with the American Red Cross for five years.
In addition to her parents, Lois is preceded in death by her brother, Russell Nicely. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Delmas Reynolds; two sons, Mark Reynolds of Bedford, Texas, and Keith Reynolds of Lancaster, Pa.; a grandson, Seth Reynolds; and two sisters, Doris Snyder of Wilmington, Ohio; and Thelma Mowen of Xenia, Ohio.
A funeral service will be at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 12, in the chapel at Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal St., Milton, where friends may call after 6 p.m. Burial will be Wednesday, July 13, in West Nottingham Cemetery in Port Deposit, Md.

Gary Ray Stroeckel,

Gary Ray Stroeckel, 46, of Georgetown, died Friday, July 8, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Stroeckel was born in Milford, the son of Gerald and Sylvia Downes Stroeckel.
He was a mason for the past 20 years and had worked for D&D Masonry and most recently for Peninsula Masonry. He was a graduate of Sussex Central High School. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, yard work and gardening, and he loved nature and wildlife.
Mr. Stroeckel is survived by his parents, Gerald and Sylvia Stroeckel of Georgetown; his companion of 19 years and fiancee Kay Farrelly; three borthers, Larry Stroeckel and his wife Lisa, of Georgetown; Ronald Stroeckel and his wife Kim, of Georgetown; Kevin Stroeckel and his wife Kara, of Georgetown; grandmother Ella Downes Gramling of Georgetown; four nephews; two nieces; four dogs, Taco Rambet, Shelby and Boogie; and a pet squirrel, Lynard.

Anna Mae King, 71, of Lewes, passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 6, 2005, at home surrounded by her loving family.
Anna was born in Millsboro, the daughter of the late Henry and Catherine Warrington Plummer.  She was a loving, devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Mrs. King is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, William D. King Sr.; six children, Carol K. Atkins, William D. King Jr. and his wife, Eileen, E. Louise Haneschlager and her husband, Tom, Alan L. King and his wife, Michele, Donna L. Morris and her husband, Wesley, and Brenda M. Hastings and her husband, Russell.  She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, Jason Andrew Atkins, Kimberly A. King, Melissa S. King, Joy L. Hudson, Amanda N. Kauffman, William Vaughn King, Kara Ashley King, Allan Michael King, Casey L. Morris, Colby L. Morris, J. Paige Elliott and Zoey Leighann Hastings; eight great-grandchildren, Shayna A.
