Lambert R. Seemans,
fence company founder
Lambert “Lum” Ratledge Seemans, 84, of Rehoboth Beach, and Murfreesboro, Tenn. passed away Wednesday, Sept. 22, in Murfreesboro.
He was the son of the late Harry Seemans and the late Fannie Maybrey Seemans of Odessa. A native of Delaware, he resided with his son Ray, in Murfreesboro.
“Lum” graduated from Middletown High School and The Perkiomen School in Pennsylvania. He served in World War II and the Korean War as a first class petty officer. He worked in sales for many years and was the founder of Guardian Fence Company. After retiring to Rehoboth Beach he went to work as a real estate broker. “Lum” enjoyed reading, sailing, drawing and spending time with his grandchildren. He attended World Outreach Church in Murfreesboro.
He is survived by his wife Betty B. Seemans of Rehoboth Beach; three sons, David L. and his wife Ruth Ann of Blackbird, Harry T. and his wife Linda of Bozman, Md., and Ray B. and his wife Emmie of Murfreesboro; two stepchildren, Jeffrey W. Seemans and his wife Pam, and Beverly B. Seemans of Marshalton; four grandchildren, David, Dale, Christiie and Katie; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Edith Blood, who died in 1988.
A memorial service will be held at Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 1449 Kings Highway, Lewes, Wednesday, Oct. 6, at 1 p.m. Burial will be private.

Mary McDowell Carey,

Mary McDowell Carey, 73, died Saturday, Sept. 25, 2004 at Lofland Life Care Center in Seaford.
She was born on January 12, 1931, in Bridgeville, to the late Zacurius McDowell and Helen Williamson McDowell and graduated from Bridgeville High School in 1949. She was a bus contractor for 20 years, retiring in 1994. She also served as a senate attache from 1978 until 1984. She had belonged to the Atlanta Homemakers, the Democratic Committee of Women, and the Union United Methodist Church in Bridgeville.
Mrs. Carey was predeceased by her husband, Robert C. Carey Sr., in 1995 and is survived by her daughters, Donna Mowbray of Seaford, Cindy Irwin of Maryland and Kathy Keidel of Delmar; her sons, Robert C. Carey Jr. and William Carey Sr., both of Bridgeville; and her brother, Albert McDowell also of Bridgeville; 9 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Hardesty Chapel, 202 Laws Street, Bridgeville, Wednesday, Sept. 29, at 2 p.m., with visitation at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery, in Seaford. Joyce M. Dickerson,

Joyce M. Dickerson, 69, of Georgetown, died Thursday, Sept. 23, 2004, at home.
Mrs. Dickerson was born Oct. 23, 1934, in Millsboro, the daughter of the late Fred and Nettie Megee Eather.
She worked as a certified nursing assistant for 36 years at Millsboro Nursing Home, now Green Valley Terrace, in Millsboro.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, John W. Dickerson Jr. in 1995; a son, John Wayne Dickerson; and a brother, Roland McCabe.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, W. Michael and Jayne Dickerson of Georgetown; a daughter and her companion, Karen M. Widen and Gregory M. Mitchell of Millsboro; two sisters, Norma Lofland and Beatrice Pearson, both of Georgetown; four grandchildren, Kacee Widen, Tyler Dickerson, Jordan Dickerson and Jason Dickerson; and a great-granddaughter, Kailey Johnson.
Services were held at Watson Funeral Home, with burial in St. John’s Church Cemetery, Georgetown.

Robert C. Fulkersin,

Robert C. Fulkersin, 64, of Millsboro and formerly of Upland, Pa., died Thursday, Sept. 23, 2004, at home after a long illness.
Mr. Fulkersin was born Oct. 12, 1939 in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., to the late Abram and Margaret Cassidy Fulkersin. He was a multicraft mechanic and welder for Citi Steel in Claymont, retiring in 1999. He was a Vietnam-era veteran of the U.S. Army, and was a member of American Legion Post 28 in Oak Orchard. He was an honorary lifetime member of the Upland Fire Company, Upland, Pa.
He will be sadly missed by his wife of 41 years, Ruth Ann Fulkersin; his sister, Carol DeShullo of Millsboro; his brother, Donald of Ridley Park, Pa.; sister-in-law Judith McLaughlin of Upland; brother-in-law William T. Kandravi of Millsboro; and many nieces and nephews.
Services were held at the Watson Funeral Home, Millsboro, and burial with honors was held in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, near Millsboro.

Beverly Ann Fry,

Beverly Ann Fry, 76 of Lewes, passed away Friday, Sept. 24, 2004 at home.
Born in Centralia, Illinois, she was the daughter of the late William and Rose Irene (Goostree) Brooks. Mrs. Fry had been employed by the state of Delaware as a mediator in the Family Court system. She was a member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Lewes. She loved politics and adored and enjoyed her cat Harry.
Mrs. Fry was preceded by her husband, Kenneth E. Fry, in May 2001.
She is survived by a daughter, Katherine Turker of Washington, D.C.

Susan Kay LaPorte, 54, of Fredericksburg, Va., and formerly of Claymont, died Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2004, at Mary Washington Hospital.
Mrs. LaPorte is survived by her husband, Ron LaPorte; two sons, Chad Brown and Todd Brown, both of Fredericksburg; her parents, Chandler and Louise Davies of Lewes; two brothers, Robert Davies of Illinois and John Davies of Delaware; a sister, Diane Greenberg of Georgetown; and several grandchildren.
Services were held at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg, with burial private.

Fred Cannon Jr., 77, of Bridgeville, died Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2004, at Harbor Healthcare Center, Lewes.
Mr. Cannon attended Richard Allen School in Georgetown. He retired from the Southern States Feed Mill in Seaford in 1986. He was a loving husband and a great father and loved to sing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred Cannon Sr. and Lena Harmon of Georgetown; four brothers; a sister; and a daughter.
He is survived by his lovely wife of 55 years, Lizzie Mae Mann Cannon of Bridgeville; seven sons, Richard, Charles, Maurice and Fred III , all of Bridgeville, Douglas Cannon of Milton, Paul Cannon of Lehigh, Fla., and Danny Kane of Seaford; six daughters, Mary, Nancy, Theresa and Georgianna Cannon, and Barbara Dredden, all of Bridgeville, and Algelance Benson of Milford; a sister, Marie Melvin of Georgetown; two sons-in-law, James Dredden of Bridgeville and Harry Benson of Milford; two daughters-in-law, Diane Cannon of Milton and Gwen Cannon of Georgetown; seven sisters-in-law, Margaret Gibbs, Ruth Neal, Cora Mann and Martha Selby, all of Georgetown, Lettie Mann, Helen Howard and Eva Shelton, all of Engelhard, N.C.; five brothers-in-law, James Melvin of Georgetown, Carl Lee Mann, Charles Mann and Willie Mann, all of Engelhard; 42 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Winifred “Winnie” D. Rhoads, 59, of Wilmington, died suddenly Saturday, Sept. 25, 2004.
Winnie attended St. Ann’s School, graduated from Ursuline Academy and was currently working for Wilmington Trust Co. at the Union Street Branch where she had been employed for many years. She took great pride in helping many banking customers personally and professionally.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Manus and Winifred Duffy; she is survived by her husband of 37 years, Kenneth C. Rhoads Sr.; her sons, Kenneth C. “K.C.” Rhoads Jr. and his fiancé, Jackie Maguire, Sean P. Rhoads and Timothy S. Rhoads, all of Wilmington; her brothers, Martin F. Duffy and his wife Nancy of Rehoboth Beach, John P. Duffy and his wife Geraldine of Freehold, N.J., Manus C. Bobbie Lea Abbott, 53, of Georgetown, died Friday, Sept. 24, 2004, at Beebe Medical Center.
Mrs. Abbott was born in Star, Md., to the late Frederick J. and Elizabeth Bennett Weiss and had been a resident of Georgetown for more than 30 years. She most recently worked in the aircraft industry with her husband. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and daughter-in-law and will be greatly missed by her family and all whom she touched. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Fred J. Weiss; and two sisters, Jeannette R. Orgaino and Elizabeth Virginian “Betty” Weiss.
She is survived by her loving and friend and husband of 30 years, Gerald Lee Abbott; a son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Michelle Abbott of Georgetown; a daughter and son-in-law,, Christel and Lance Folke of Millsboro; three grandchildren, Brandon Abbott, Lauren Abbott and Paige Folke; two sisters, Joan G. Norris of Rising Sun and Nancy L. Martin of Hartly; a brother, George T. Weiss Sr. of Harrington; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 28, at Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market St., Georgetown, where friends may call after 9 a.m. Burial will be in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro.

John E. "Jack" Ingram Jr., 60, of Oxford, Md., died Sunday, Sept. 19, 2004, at his home.
At his bedside were his wife of 37 years, Pat; his son John of Virginia Beach, Va.; and his daughter Kristin and son-in-law Ryan McNavage of Bethesda, Md. He is also survived by his sister Gail Guerra of Annapolis, Md. Jack was better known as "Poppy" to his grandchildren Lindsay and Grant McNavage.
Jack held a bachelor of arts degree in economics from Duke University and masters degree in international relations from the University of Southern California. Jack served as a captain in the United States Air Force Space and Missile Systems Organization. His business career was with Pacific Telephone, AT&T, and finally Lucent Technologies as their Executive Compensation and Benefits director.
A graveside service will be held at 4 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 26, at Bethel Methodist Cemetery in Lewes.

Raymond W. Brown Sr., 64, of Ellendale and formerly of Milton, died Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2004, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, Md..
Mr. Brown was born in Harbeson to the late Knoulton Brown Sr. and Mary Sherman Brown. He lived most of his life in Milton until moving to Ellendale five years ago.
He retired several years ago as a mechanic from Brown’s Mobil Station in Georgetown, a business he owned and operated with his brothers. Mr. Brown enjoyed woodworking, gardening and was always willing to assist his family and friends with any project they were working on or when repair was needed.
Several years ago he was involved with dirt track racing at the Delaware International Speedway in Delmar. He enjoyed watching the races and assisted with the Mark Byram 55 Late Model. He was also a NASCAR fan.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Leona B. Jones and Diana Bradley Holloway; and a brother, Knoulton “Junio” Brown Jr.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Patricia Beideman Brown; two sons and daughters-in-law, Raymond Jr. and Lin Brown of Georgetown, and Wayne Sr. and Terry Brown of Milton; a daughter, Rhonda Brown of North Port, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Gregory Pianka Jr. and Kyle Pianka, both of Ellendale, Kurt Pianka of Janesville, Wis., Raymond Brown III of Milton, Desiree Moore of Lewes, Rayna Brown of Georgetown and Wayne Brown Jr. of Milton; two great-grandchildren, Kayla Brown of Millsboro and Raylin Moore of Lewes; three brothers, William Sherman, Richard M. Frank N. Barton, 63, of Rehoboth Beach, died Sunday, Aug. 29, 2004, at home after a long illness.
Mr. Barton was born in Glen Ridge, N.J., the eldest son of Alice Barton of Rehoboth Beach and the late Frank Barton of Millsboro. He was a retired insulation contractor.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his sister, Sheila Vasseur.
Besides his mother, he is survived by three brothers, Dennis of Frankford, Christopher of Ann Arbor, Mich. and Thomas of Columbia, Md.; two nieces, Shannon Barton of Troy, N.Y., and Jane Tan and her husband Murat and their three children, Jeremy, Tim and Sarah Pringle of Barnegat, N.J. He will be missed by his friends Marty Pratt, Katie Byam, Ann and Jack Brennan, Amanda Kollock, Sheila Karr, Richard Sackett and Pat Nicholson.

Walter C. “Buddy” Bosman, 65, of Wilmington, died Sunday, Sept. 19, 2004, after a long illness.
Mr. Bosman was a Navy veteran and a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagle, AERIE 3737 in Wilmington. He enjoyed fishing and loved animals, especially his cats, Rascal and Tom.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Ginny Bosman, in 1972. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Nancy E. Bosman; his former wife and mother of his children, Ann Bosman, children Walter Bosman of Smyrna, Amanda Eckstrom of Rehoboth Beach, Robert Bosman and his wife Mary Jo of New Castle, Karen Virden and her husband, James of Newark; nine grandchildren; and a host of friends.

Pearl M. Woodrow,

Pearl M. Woodrow, 107, died Friday, Sept. 17, 2004, at Christiana Care Long Term Care.
She was the widow of the Rev. Jesse M.B. Woodrow, an Episcopal clergyman who retired from St. John the Baptist in Milton in 1960. Her only son, Carroll C. Woodrow, preceded her in death in 1999. During her younger years she enjoyed teaching Sunday school and baking for church bazaars. During the 65 years she was married, she baked bread for their table twice a week. She always enjoyed laughing at a good joke.
She is survived by her grandchildren, Paul C. and his wife Christina and their children of Barrington, Ill. and by Beth A. and her husband R. Scott Latham of Portland, Ore.; and her daughter-in-law, Janet S. of Wilmington.
Graveside services were held at Loudon Park Cemetery, Baltimore.

Margaret S. Sombar,

Margaret S. Sombar, 85, of Milford, died Friday, Sept. 17, 2004, at home.
Mrs. Sombar was born in St. Albans, W.Va., daughter of the late Seth and Mary Ann Rausch Foresman. She was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking, reading, needlepoint and held a weekly ritual with her bridge club.
Mrs. Sombar was a very devoted member of the Christ Episcopal Church in Milford and active in the Episcopal Church Women and the Needlepoint Guild and was a former director of the Altar Guild. She was a faithful volunteer for years at Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Maj. Michael J. Sombar in 1988; two brothers, Henry Foresman and David Foresman; and a grandson, Christopher James Riley.
She is survived by two sons and two daughters-in-law, Michael J. Jr. and Suzanne Sombar of Augusta, Ga. and S. Thomas and Rose Sombar of Milton; a daughter and son-in-law, Anne and Jim Riley of Newark; a sister, Alice Hallett of Milford; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 21, in Christ Episcopal Church, Second and Church streets, Milford, with burial in the church cemetery.

George E. Hopkins Jr.,

George E. Hopkins Jr., 75, of Overbrook Shores near Milton, died Saturday, Sept. 18, 2004, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes, after a brave battle with multiple myeloma.
Mr. Hopkins was born Nov. 9, 1928, in Milford Hospital, eldest son of the late George E. Sr. and Ruth Anne Porter Hopkins of Milton. He was a lifelong resident of Milton and a 1946 graduate of Milton High School, one of 16 graduates of that school in that year.
Mr. Hopkins retired as a supervisor from the Dupont Co., Seaford, in 1985, after nearly 38 years of service. He was one of the largest group of retirees who met once a month for breakfast until two years ago when the group dwindled to Mr. Hopkins and another retiree. After retirement he began a “second career” with Short Funeral Services, where he worked with his friends George and Janet Short until he became ill earlier this year.
Mr. Hopkins, “Pop Pop” to his five grandchildren, was an attentive and loving grandfather who never missed an opportunity to share and celebrate the events of his grandchildren’s lives. Before moving to Overbrook Shores last year, Mr. Hopkins and his wife Alice lived 55 years on Route 9 near Harbeson, where they had built a home on the family farm shortly after their marriage.
Mr. Hopkins, known as George e. to his friends, was a loving husband and family man. He was devoted to the cause of building a future for the more than 200-year old Coolspring Presbyterian Church, of which he was an elder and active member for more than 50 years. He and his wife were two of the founding members of a group of young Sussex Countians who formed a “Couples Club” more than 50 years ago and which has met once a month since it began.,
Mr. Hopkins was a 32nd Degree Mason and Past Master of Endeavor Lodge No.. 17 of Milton, Past Noble Grand of Union Lodge No. 3I.O.O.F. of Georgetown, past president of the Henlopen Ruritans, a member of the Cape Henlopen Elks Lodge and a past treasurer of the former Seaford Nylon Employees Council. He was a supporter of the Relay for Life, having been a survivor of an earlier battle with prostate cancer.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his eldest daughter, Sandra Lee Hopkins; and two sisters, Ruth Anne Wilson and Nancy Dickerson.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Alice Hopkins; two daughters, Tamra Hopkins Brittingham and her husband Michael Pelrine of Dover and Lewes, and Deborah Hopkins West and her husband Charles P. “Chip” West of Millsboro; a son, George E. “Ed” Hopkins III and his wife Deborah Hopkins of Rehoboth Beach; five grandchildren, Eban Hopkins Brittingham of Santa Fe, N.M. and Dover, George Edwards Hopkins IV, Andrew Brock Hopkins and Stephanie Renee Hopkins, all of Rehoboth Beach, and Jenna Lee West of Millsboro; a brother, William G. Hopkins and his wife Thelma of Harbeson; five nephews, Ted Waples and Bob Waples, both of Florida, William G. Hopkins Jr. of Harbeson, Greg Wilson of Milton and John Wilson of Georgia; three nieces, Connie Heck of Lewes, Reina Kim Dickerson of California and Sylvia Schenker of New York; and his faithful companion, his Great Dane Zoe.

Carl James O’Day, 84, of Bridgeville, died Friday, Sept. 17, 2004, at home.
Mr. O’Day was born in Bridgeville, son of the late James E. and Louise O’Day. He was a farmer and owned and operated O’Day’s Fruit stand on Route 18 since 1949, up until a few years ago. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and generous ways to all who knew him. He was a member of Cokesbury Church, Georgetown.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Geneva O’Day; two brothers, George E. O’Day, and John W. O’Day; five sisters, Daisy M. O’Day, Lovey O’Day Smith, Laura M. O’Day, Virgie L. Belts, Ida H. Cohee; and one stepson, Brice Smart Sr.
He is survived by Mark Hunsberger, whom he loved as a son; four step-grandchildren; several great-step grandchildren; 10 nephews; and five nieces.

Georgene L. Bliss, 61, of rural Millsboro and formerly of Phoenixville, Pa., died Thursday, Sept. 16, 2004, at home.
Mrs. Bliss was born in Pottstown, Pa., the daughter of the late Wilfred Rubendall and Ruby Maute Rubendall.
She worked as a desk clerk for Sleep Inn Suites of Lewes.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Bonnie.
She is survived by her mother and stepfather, Ruby and Frederick Nixon; her husband William D. Bliss; a daughter, Winnie Wallace; three sons, Frederick Bliss and Earl and Frank Wallace; a brother, Brian Rubendall; and five grandchildren.

George Robert “Bobby” Quillen,
longtime Harrington representative
Rep. George Robert “Bobby” Quillen, 75, of Harrington, died peacefully Saturday, Sept. 18, 2004, at home.
Rep. Quillen, R-Harrington, was born in Ocean View, son of the late Robert H. and Cora M. Quillen. He served his country proudly in the Korean War from 1950-1952 in the U.S. Army Corps as a company clerk, and was stationed in Germany.
Rep. Quillen ended his career July 1 after serving more than 28 years as a Delaware representative. He served three terms from 1966-72, then retired. He returned to Legislative Hall in 1982 after then-Gov. Pete duPont asked him to run again. He mentored younger lawmakers and knew the intricacies of the legislative process, and was considered an expert in House rules and procedures.
He earned a reputation for his good humor, quick wit, warm charm and his habit of not wearing socks.
As a state representative, Rep. Quillen was a leader in environmental and agricultural issues. He chaired the House Natural Resource Committee and Environmental Management Committee and was vice chairman of the Land Use and Infrastructure Committee. In his 28 years as Delaware’s representative, Rep. Quillen was instrumental in passing numerous bills and legislative activities.
He was fond of his beloved Harrington and served his community proudly as a strong supporter of its many organizations and those in neighboring communities.
Rep. Quillen worshipped for more than 50 years at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church of Harrington. He was a member of American Legion Post 7 of Harrington and served at various times as president, post commander and service officer. He was an ardent supporter of the Delaware State Fair, and has an arena named for him at the Fairgrounds. He belonged to the Harrington Historical Society and the Friends of the Harrington Library and was also a Civil War buff, belonging to the Civil War Preservation Trust and the Delaware Civil War Roundtable. He was an honorary member of the Harrington and Houston Volunteer Fire Co. and a member of the Eastern Shore Fox Hunters.
He was preceded in death by two brothers.
He is survived by a sister, Grace Wanda Quillen of Harrington; two brothers, Ivan Francis Quillen of Harrington and Frank Quillen of Felton; a good friend who was like a son, Acie Sanders of Rehoboth Beach; and seven nieces and nephews, Inga Emerson, Renee Knox, Thea Quillen, Chad Emerson, Theo Knox, August Knox and Haley Knox.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 21 in the Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 S. DuPont Highway, Harrington, with services at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 22, in St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, Raughley Hill Road, Harrington. Burial will be private.

Leroy H. “Roy” Dailey Sr., 79, of Georgetown and formerly of Pasadena, Md., died Thursday, Sept. 16, 2004, at home.
Mr. Dailey was born in Baltimore, the son of Katherine Gill Dailey of Glen Burnie, Md. and the late Harry Leroy Dailey.
He worked as a manager and driver for Arrid Van Lines Inc. in Baltimore for more than 40 years.
He was active in the Meals on Wheels program at the CHEER Center in Georgetown.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a stepson, Jack L. “Butch” Herrmann, in 1993.
He is survived by his wife, Lillian M. Sizemore Dailey; two sons, Leroy H. Jr. of Haines City, Fla. and Donald of Georgetown; three daughters, Carolyn Duval of Millsboro, Christine Potts of Seaford and Arlene Fowler of Millsboro; his mother, Katherine Gill Dailey of Glen Burnie; two brothers, Donald Dailey and Clifford Daily, both of Pasadena; a sister, Beverly Watson of Pasadena; 24 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter,

Ruth K. (Jones) Rogers, 82, of Hockessin, died peacefully Friday, Sept. 17, 2004, at home.
Born in Wilmington on Dec. 2, 1921, she was the daughter of the late J. Howard and Jennie Ashby Jones. She was a 1940 graduate of P.S. duPont High School. Mrs. Rogers enjoyed spending time withher family, especially at her Lewes vacation home.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry W. Rogers in 1988; and by a sister, Helen Spencer, in 1983.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda Rogers of Hockessin; her son, Barry Rogers and his wife Nancy of Pike Creek; her granddaughter, Lyndsay Rogers of Newark; her sister, Hazel Carpenter of Chadds Ford, Pa.; two sisters-in-law, Marguerite Hill of Lewes and Doris Taylor of Sumter, S.C.; and a brother-in-law, Edward W. Rogers of Georgetown.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 21, at Gracelawn Memorial Park, DuPont Highway, New Castle.

Ronald Douglas Weik, 54 ,of Rehoboth Beach, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 16, 2004 at Lewes Convalescent Center in Lewes, after a short illness.
Mr. Weik grew up in Wilmington, and was a graduate of McKean High School. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
He is survived by his mother, Mildred V. Bromwell of Rehoboth Beach; a brother John Bromwell of Newark; a sister, Patricia Messerknecht and her husband Fred of Reading, Pa. and Lewes; his companion, Donna Bettinger; four nieces; and six nephews.

Charles E. “Cholly” Mayo, 87, of Dagsboro and formerly of Media, Pa., died Friday, Sept. 17, 2004, at Beebe Medical Center, Lewes.
Mr. Mayo was born June 21, 1917 in Ridley Park, Pa. to the late George and Harriet Soloman Mayo. He worked for many years as a self-employed contractor, retiring in 1980.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Dorothy E. Frank Mayo; a son, Larry D. Mayo and his wife Anna of Lewes; two sisters, Harriet Parsons of Sharon Hill, Pa. and Gertrude Eno of Chadds Ford, Pa.; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Helen D. Florczyk, 86, of Wilmington, died Saturday, Sept. 11, 2004 at her sister’s home in New Castle.
Ms. Florczyk retired in 1972 from the Continental Can Co., after many years of service. After her retirement, she enjoyed traveling to Atlantic City, N.J.
She is survived by a brother, Edward Florczyk of Wilmington; a sister, Irene Mansfield of New Castle; two nephews, William A. Reed Jr. of Rehoboth Beach and Michael Mansfield of New Castle; a niece, Kathy Florczyk of Wilmington; and many, many friends.

Johannes Kaup, 93, died Sunday, Sept. 12, 2004, at Atlantic General Hospital, Berlin, Md.
Born in Bosnia, he was the son of the late Hans and Liisa Kaup.
Mr. Kaup had been an author and writer. He had many books published, writing fiction, children’s books and on politics. He had been the editor for the Estonia paper in New York. He had also worked with his wife at the Greenwood Bookshop in Wilmington. He had served in the Estonia Home Guard, working in radio communications.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nina Gertrude Kaup, in 1995.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Eneken and Fredric Frischkorn of Ocean Pines; two grandchildren, Michael Ash of Rehoboth Beach and Katherine Hearne of Wilmington; and nine great-grandchildren.
Cremation followed his death. Private interment will be held at a later date.

Robert F. Moyer Sr., 81, of Milton, passed away Saturday, Sept. 11, 2004, peacefully surrounded by his family at his residence after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Mr. Moyer retired from the University of Delaware College of Marine Studies in 1988. His hobbies included boat building, wood carving, painting, cabinetry and collecting antique model cars, trains and farm tractors.
Born Dec. 3, 1922 in Oley, Pa., Robert was the son of the late John William Moyer and Isabella A. Moyer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Donald and Richard Moyer.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Susan E. Moyer; his sister, Isabel Pleacher; seven children and their families, daughter Linda and Robert Brown and children, Larry, Lisa and Robbie; daughter Rosemary and Gary Corron and daughter Karen and her daughter Sarah; daughter Beverly and Eddie Poff and children Samuel, Charles and Susan Hall; daughter Marlene and Thomas Morris; son Michael Jones and grandson Michael Jones Jr.; son William and Laura Moyer and their son Jacob; and son Robert Jr. and Paula Moyer and their children Forrest and Murphy.

Evaleah G. Barr, 102, of Rehoboth Beach and formerly of Georgetown, died peacefully Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2004, at Brandywine Assisted Living at Seaside Pointe.
Mrs. Bar was born, raised and spent most of her life in Georgetown and Gravel Hill. She worked as a secretary for the Georgetown School District and for James T. Tunnel Sr. She also worked in the offices of Registrar of Wills, Recorder of Deeds, tax office and was Deputy Prothonotary. She retired from Henry Graves and Sons in 1966.
She was a lifelong member of Georgetown Presbyterian Church where she served on the Session for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Jennie Short Green of Georgetown; and siblings Lula King, Meta Joseph, Hazel Hammond and Joseph Green Sr. In 1923 she married Leroy Carey of Millsboro, who died in 1928. Her second marriage was to Andrew Barr of Georgetown, who died in a tragic construction accident in 1944.
She is survived by a daughter, Louise Carey Burton of Rehoboth Beach; three granddaughters, Rachel V. Coward and her husband David of Rehoboth Beach, Barbara E. Turek and her husband Lee of Georgetown and Martha L. Wyatt and her husband Bill of Lewes; six great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Gail Schroeder Fields, 60, of Lewes, died Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2004 at home after a long illness.
Gail was the eldest child of the late Howard and Marian Schroeder of Lewes. Gail grew up on Pilottown Road and graduated from Lewes High School in the Class of 1961. She graduated from the University of Delaware in 1965 with a degree in psychology and was a caseworker for Baltimore City Hospitals and for the Hawaii Chapter of the American Red Cross during the Viet Nam War.
In 1970, Gail returned to the University of Delaware to earn a BA plus 30 in Elementary Education. She briefly taught 5th grade at Wm. Reilly Brown Elementary School in Dover and helped with her family’s art and gift shop, Art Age, in Rehoboth Beach.
Gail lived in North Carolina for 18 years. During that period she worked for the Chapel Hill Tennis Club for nine years and later was employed by the North Carolina Crafts Gallery, where she became very interested in regional crafts and often visited potters and artisans throughout the State. It was during this period that she studied bead design and made custom jewelry from semi-precious stones. She was an active member of Orange United Methodist Church in Chapel Hill where she loved singing in the choir, acting in and directing plays, and participating in small group studies.
As her illness progressed she longed to return to her hometown where she could walk near the ocean and watch the sunset from the Point in Cape Henlopen State Park. Gail moved into Nassau Station in Lewes in April 2003.
She is survived by her husband, Phil; brother Steve Schroeder of Acton, Ma.; brother Howard Schroeder of Chapel Hill, N.C.; brothers John and Rob Schroeder, both of Lewes; and sister Carole Schroeder Short of Lewes. She is also survived by two children, daughter Erika Fields of Lewes; and son Rob Fields and daughter-in-law Nicole Fields; and two grandchildren, Davis and Kyleigh, all of Fuquay-Varina, N.C.

Jeanne M. Luttrell, 76, of Dover, died Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2004, at BayHealth Medical Center, Dover.
Born in Batavia, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Lucy Rogers Stella. Mrs. Luttrell had served as an executive secretary for the Capital School District until her retirement in 1987. Upon her retirement she had enjoyed traveling with her husband to see family and friends and had spent her quieter moments at their beach house in Sussex County and in Florida.
When family members were asked to remark on Jeanne’s interests and hobbies, it was evident that her devotion to her husband and family consumed most of the time she had spent on earth. Though seemingly small and fragile, especially toward the end of her life, she exhibited an amazing strength and grace that was so apparent. One of her favorite hymns was “Amazing Grace” and that in itself best describes the woman, wife and mother that was Jeanne M. Luttrell.
Throughout the years, Mrs. Luttrell had been an active member of Holy Cross Church in Dover and was a participant in the Holy Cross Prayer Group. She had also been a member of the Delaware Retired State Employees Association.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, William C. Luttrell of Dover; three daughters, Denise Warner of Harbeson, Jan A. Hyatt of Harbeson and Andrea B. Thomas of Lancaster, Pa.; her special son-in-law, Mark Warner of Dover; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Mary “Esther” Taylor Webb, 87, of Lewes, died Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2004, at Riverside Long Term Care in Wilmington.
Esther was born July 8, 1917 in Arden, Pa. to Howard C. Taylor and Minnie M. “Bunting” Taylor. She retired from Beebe Medical Center after working 19 years in the Housekeeping Department. She was a 37-year member of the American Legion Post 17 Auxiliary in Lewes where she was their Gold Star Mother. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and crocheting.
Mrs. Webb was preceded in death by her parents; her former husband Lee Arnold Webb, 1973; her son, Howard L. Webb, who was killed in Vietnam on June 8, 1967; and her brother, Clifford Taylor.
She is survived by two daughters, Susan Fisher of Lewes with whom she lived, and Nancy Lowery and her husband, Roy, of Seaford; one sister, Anna Werner and her husband, Reds, of St. Augustine, Fla.; and her former sister-in-law, Pauline Catlano of Wilmington. In addition, she had eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Gregory Seeros Kramedas, 67, of Dover, died Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2004, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Mr. Kramedas was born in Wilmington, the son of the late Samuel and Mary Anastaskakos Kramedas. He graduated from Rehoboth High School and attended the University of Delaware, where he played football as a running back. He was the owner of the Hub Restaurant in Dover and became the largest hotel developer in the state. He was awarded the Small Businessman of the Year. He was the winner of the Kent County tourism Award, Delaware Economic Development Award, Dover Air Force Base Honorary Commander and Restaurant Man of the Year.
Mr. Kramedas also served as the Kent County Commissioner of Parks and Recreation. He was a member of the Hotel/Motel Association, Rotary Club,, Lions Club, Delaware Boys and Girls Club and Central Delaware Economic Development.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Theodore in 1981 and John and Thomas, both in 1985.
He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Tina Kramedas; a son, Thomas Kramedas of Dover; two daughters and a son-in-law, Desiree Kramedas of Rehoboth Beach and Sophia Kramedas-Ghanayem and John Ghanayem of Dover; a grandson, James Thomas; a brother and sister-in-law, William and Genie Kramedas of Lewes; a sister and brother-in-law, Sophia and Thomas Mamakos of New Jersey; a sister-in-law, Maria Kramedas of Wilmington; a brother-in-law and his wife, Joseph and Phyllis Petrosky of Dover; and numerous nieces and nephews.

S. McGill Gawthrop, 89, died Monday, Sept. 13, 2004, at Cokesbury Village, Hockessin.
Mr. Gawthrop attended Tower Hill School, Westminster School in Simsbury, Ct., and Princeton University. He did graduate work at Stonier School of Banking at Rutgers University and the American Institute of Banking. He began his career in banking as a messenger for Equitable Trust Co. in 1935. He held various positions in branch administration at the Bank of Delaware and its predecessors for 45 years and retired in 1980 as senior vice president.
He served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the South Pacific. He was active in civic, charitable and educational organizations. He was past president and a board member of the West End Neighborhood House; treasurer and board member of the Brandywine River Museum; treasurer and chairman of the finance committee and board member of Tatnall School; president and board member of Family Services of Northern Delaware; a member of the national board of directors of the Family Service Association of America and a member of the State of Delaware Advisory Council of the Mid-Atlantic Chapter of the American Automobile Association.
In addition, he served on the boards of the Wilmington Country Club, Ingleside Episcopal Home, Delaware Chapter of the Leukemia Society of America, the Greater Wilmington Development Council, the Delaware Academy of Medicine, the Child Diagnostic and Development Center, the Delaware Congress of parents and Teachers and the Delaware Association for Retarded Children. He was an avid tennis and squash player at the Wilmington Country Club and won numerous local, regional and national titles.
Gill is survived by his wife of 62 years, Helen Lloyd Kitchel Gawthrop; his son, Sam and his wife Jackie, of Chesapeake City, Md.; his daughter, Randy and her husband Murray Sawyer of Wilmington; his son Lloyd of Berwyn, Pa.; his son Charles and his wife Carol of Hockessin; his daughter Mimi and her husband George Walls of Milton; his son Jim and his wife Deri of Unionville, Pa.; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Elizabeth Canby Bush and her husband Henry of Cokesbury Village.

Mr. Jamison worked for Pathmark for 33 years. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing and crabbing.

James Donald Grillo, 54, of Lewes, died Saturday, Sept. 4, 2004, at Beebe Medical Center.
Mr. Grillo was born Feb. 28, 2004, in Reading, Pa., the son of Benjamin Grillo and the late Shirley K. Heist Grillo.
He worked as a laborer in the construction industry.
Besides his father, he is survived by a sister, Pat Mistishun of Reading; a brother, Anthony Grillo of Reading; four sons, Tyler Grillo, Robbie Grillo, Jodi Grillo and Christopher Grillo, all of Reading; a daughter, Deona Grillo of Reading; and a niece, Candi Graul of Reading.

Mrs. Bruce worked on the assembly line of Whitman’s Chocolates in her earlier years. She was also the family historian.
She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Pauline J. Bocox Downes, 63, of Greenwood, died Friday, Sept. 10, 2004, at her residence.
Mrs. Downes had worked over the years as a caregiver for many in their homes. She was the daughter of the late Paul and Elizabeth Bocox Downes and was born in Pulaski, Va. on April 9, 1941
She is survived by her husband Howard Martin Downes; four daughters, Theresa Bare and Debbie Davis, both of Wilkesboro, N.C.; Kathy Hayes of Preston, Md., and Tammy Crawford of Magnolia; two sons, Howard Downes of Salisbury, Md. and Keith Downes of Snow Hill, Md.; four sisters, Dorothy Bush of Greenwood, Delphia Gilley of Milford, Helen Mitchum of Anawalt, W. Va., and Eugenia March of Lewes; one brother, Stanley Craft of Greenwood; fourteen grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a brother Stevie Craft.

Elva M. Wilkerson, 89, of Milton, died Saturday, Sept. 11, 2004, at her sister’s home in Harbeson.
Mrs. Wilkerson was born Dec. 5, 1914, in Georgetown, the daughter of the late Eli and Rhoda Smith Wilkerson. She was a lifelong resident of Sussex County. She had worked as an inspector for Burris Foods in Milford before retiring. Ms. Wilkerson attended Grace Church in Milton.
She is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Catherine and Roy Hellens of Harbeson; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 15, at Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal St., Milton, where friends may call at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Milton.

Ralph Warring Hawkins, 69, of Fenwick Island, died Thursday, Sept. 9, 2004 at Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin, Md.
A native of Washington, D.C., Mr. Hawkins was a high school graduate of St. John’s and played quarterback, running back and defensive back at the University of Maryland, where he earned his bachelor of science in physical education.
He was a successful college coach before moving to the NFL. He served as defensive coordinator/defensive backs coach at Cincinnati, and coached defensive backs at both Army and Kentucky.
Hawkins began his NFL coaching career from 1969-71 in Buffalo; from 1972-77 Hawkins was with the Washington Redskins under George Allen. After spending the 1978 season with the Colts, he joined the New York Giants from 1979-81 as defensive coordinator. For the next eight years he served under Chuck Knox with both the Bills and Seattle before moving to the New York Jets for the 1989 season.
Following a very highly respected coaching career, Mr. Hawkins moved into college scouting with the Arizona Cardinals, Carolina Panthers and Houston Texans.
He was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia in July of 2003.
Survivors include his wife of 37 years, the former Carol Hench; his children, Mary Kathleen, Kristin Oster and son-in-law Dan, Karianne, and Andrew; four grandchildren, Michael, Cady, Christopher, and Ashley.
A memorial mass was offered at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Bethany Beach.

Irvin L. Sellers, 79, of Warwick Park, Millsboro, and formerly of Reading, Pa., died Friday, Sept. 10, 2004, at home.
Mr. Sellers was retired from Bell Telephone Company of Pennsylvania. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy, and he was a member of American Legion Post 28 of Oak Orchard and the AmVets. He was also past president of BELLCO Credit Union in Reading.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances B. Sellers, in 2003.
He is survived by three sons, Bruce, Donald and his wife, Joy, Ronald and his wife Debra; six grandsons, Michael, Nickolas, Eric, Gregory, Nathan and Brett; a great-grandson and two great-granddaughters.

Wayne Lewis Carlson, 59, of Snow Hill, Md., died Thursday, Sept. 2, 2004, at Anchorage Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
Mr. Carlson was born in Delaware, the son of the late Lewis and Gertrude Carlson.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Vietnam War.
He was a member of the American Legion in Snow Hill, and a member of the Bates United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by the grandmother who raised him, Ethel Perdue.
He is survived by the mother of his children, Alice Pusey Carlson; a son, Brian Carlson; a daughter, Melissa Figgs; a stepdaughter, Nannie Figgs; three grandchildren, Tiffany Fay Figgs, Dakota Maeawood and William Nathaniel Figgs; and his dog Sport, all of Salisbury, Md.

John Keener, 82, of Ocean View, and formerly of New Castle County, beloved father and Pop Pop, went home to be with Jesus on Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2004 due to injuries sustained during an automobile accident on Aug. 27, 2004.
Mr. Keener was born in Kane, Pa. He served his country in both WWII and the Korean War in the Army. He loved fishing, gardening, and was an accomplished carpenter. He was a member of VFW Mason-Dixon Post #7234 in Ocean View.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Jane.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Ruth; four children, Kathy Halter, Sharon Stewart and her husband Peter, Garry Keener and his significant other Liz, Laurie Keener and her significant other Kenny Lindell; five grandchildren, Allison Bender, John Keener, Lizz Stewart, Scott Lindell, and Jesse Stewart, all of Newark; his sister, Dorothy Krieber of Kane, Pa.; and his nephew, Jack Keener and his wife Jessie of New Bern, N.C.

Frieda (Skuza) Munsell, 87, died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2004, at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes.
Mrs. Munsell was born February 14, 1917, in Isauk Rapids, Minn., daughter of the late William J. Skuza and Libby Sitko Skuza.
She was employed by Beebe Medical Center as a dietary aide for 17 years, retiring in 1982.
She is survived by two sons, Ervin Munsell of Hatboro, Pa. and Karl W. Munsell of Georgetown; a daughter, Dolores Stevenson of Georgetown; four sisters, Alvina Fleck of Sak Rapids, Minn., Lillian Johnson and Marlys Thomas of Minneapolis, Minn., and Leah Stricker of St. Cloud, Minn.; two brothers, Harland Skuza of Foley, Minn. and Virgil Skuza of Sauk Rapids, Minn.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Marie T. Lawson, 83, of Milton, died Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2004, at Harrison House of Georgetown, her residence for the past four years.
Mrs. Lawson was born in Milton to the late John Thomas and Carrie Betts Leverage of Georgetown. She was a homemaker and a member of St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church in Milton as well as American Legion Post 20 Ladies Auxiliary.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Lawson, in 1967.

Gertrude Holloway Johnson, 90, of Newark, died Friday, Sept. 3, 2004 at her home.
Mrs. Johnson was born in Snow Hill, Md. May 13, 1914, the daughter of the late David and Ida Jarmon Holloway. She grew up and attended schools in Berlin, Md. and in 1934, graduated from the University of Delaware with a degree in home economics. After receiving her degree, she returned to Wicomico County and taught at Ocean City High School from 1938-39.
In 1939, Mrs. Johnson joined the Delaware Cooperative extension Service as a home demonstration agent for Sussex County. Six years later, in 1945, she was appointed state leader of Home Economics in the Delaware Cooperative Extension Service. She resigned from that position when in 1954, she married William H. Johnson, a partner in Dayett Mills. He died in 1963. From 1966-1980, Mrs. Johnson served as the first executive director of the Newark Senior Center.
In addition to her remarkable career, she was affiliated with the following organizations: The Delaware Home Economics Association, where she served on the executive board from 1945-54; The American Home Economics Association, where she served as secretary from 1953-55; vice president of the University of Delaware Alumnae Association; president of the Newark Alumnae Chapter; member of Phi Kappa Phi; secretary of Epsilon Sigma Phi; member of Cooch’s Bridge Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution; secretary of the Cooch’s Bridge Civic Association; the Delaware Parks and Recreation Society; the National Council on Aging; the New Castle County Advisory Committee on Aging; and was a charter member of the Newark Historical Society. She attended Welsh Tract Baptist Church for many years.
Mrs. Johnson is survived by her stepson, Raynor A. Johnson and his wife Susan Kirk Johnson of Newark; and two step grandchildren, Amy M. and R. Kirk Johnson.

Johnny Jones, 78, of Millsboro, died Sunday, Sept. 5, 2004, at home.
Mr. Jones was born in Bridgeville, the son of the late Johnny E. and Viola Donaway Jones.
He was a self-employed carpenter. He was a Marine Corps veteran in World War II, serving with the 6th division of the Okinawa Campaign in the South Pacific in 1945. He was a member of VFW Post 7422 in Millsboro and the American Legion Post in Lewes.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Joyce Jones; four sons, Johnny E. Jones Jr., Rick H. Jones and David B. Jones, all of Millsboro and Steven L. Jones of Gumboro; a daughter, Sandi Jones of Millsboro; three sisters, Viola Tingle of Salisbury, Md., Delores McClintock of North Carolina and Aline Taylor of Clarksville; eight grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Edward J. Andrzejewski,
retired from General Motors
Edward J. Andrzejweski, 93, of Middletown and formerly of Woodcrest, Wilmington, died Monday, Sept. 6, 2004, at Christiana Hospital.
Mr. Andrzejewski was a silk mill worker, ship fitter and musician who joined the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1933, being stated at Fort duPont, Camp Dix, N.J., in Lewes and Camp Slate Creek, Id., being honorably discharged in 1937. While stationed in Lewes, Edward, along with another CCC member, E.A. Jones, received a Letter of Commendation from the Adjutant General of the US Army for saving the life of a comrade who was in imminent peril of drowning beyond Queen Anne Pier in the Delaware Breakwater off Lewes Beach.
He was employed and retired from the General Motors Assembly Plant on Boxwood Road. He also worked part time for St. Matthew’s Church in Woodcrest and after retiring from the school and church, contributed many hours to the school, church and the Sisters Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary well into his 80s. Edward also loved to play the banjo and harmonica at family gatherings.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Cecelia Oleksy, in 1993; his son, Anthony; his four brothers, Stanley, Steven, Francis and Walter; and three sisters, Cecilia Czachorowski, Catherine Murphy and Stella Sakowski.
He is survived by his son, Ronald E. Andrzejewski and his wife Barbara, with whom he lived; a daughter, Mary Gardner and her husband Joseph of Milton; two grandchildren, Olivia and Nicholas DeCain; and a sister, Florence, of Wilmington.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m., Friday, Sept. 10, 2004, at St. Matthew’s Church, Woodcrest. Burial will be in Assumption Patio Crypt in All Saints’ Cemetery.

Henry C. Wenke Jr., 75, of Dewey Beach, died Saturday, Sept. 4, 2004, at home.
Mr. Wenke was born April 30, 1929 in Holloway Terrace, the son of the late Henry C. Wenke Sr. and Elsie B. "Dawson" Wenke.
Mr. Wenke worked 35 years as a pipe insulator with Local 42, retiring in 1985. He also served in the U.S. Army and was a Korean War veteran.
Mr. Wenke had many interests and was active in his community throughout his life. He was a member of the Cape Henlopen Elks Lodge; a 32nd Degree Mason with St. John's Lodge, New Castle; a lifetime member of the Holloway Terrace Fire Department; a lifetime member of the Rehoboth Beach VFW Post 7447; a lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans; and a member of American Legion Post 28, Oak Orchard/Riverdale.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Pauline "Witsil" Wenke of Dewey Beach; his son, Henry Carl Wenke III of Cool Spring; three daughters, Paula W. Scaramozzi of King George, Va., Cara W. Wilson of Rehoboth Beach and Hope C. Cooper of Rehoboth Beach. He leaves behind nine grandchildren: Crystal Stigils, Tamara Scaramozzi, Lucas Scaramozzi, Cara Scaramozzi, Paul Wilson, Sara E. Wilson, Heather Wenke, Rhianna Wenke and Hunter Wenke; and three great-grandchildren; as well as sisters Alma W. Simmons of Cleveland, Oh., Georgie Ann Bennett of Bear and Janice Lehman of Bear. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon Wenke; and a sister, Ruth Jensen.

Maxine S. Brown, 81, of Chadds Ford, Pa., died Friday, Sept. 3, 2004, at her daughter’s residence in Coatesville, Pa.
Mrs. Brown was the wife of the late James W. Brown, who died in 1996 and with whom she shared 56 years of marriage.
Born in Ashe County, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Wade and Mary Jones Barker.
She was a member of FRP Committee and a member of the Administration Board at Marshallton Methodist Church, vice president and active member of the United Methodist Women, an active member of the 347 Order of the Eastern Star in Cochranville, Pa., where she was a Worthy Matron. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and she enjoyed crafts and flower gardening.
She was preceded in death by four children, Robert, Sandy, Jimmy and Petie Brown; and by a brother, Russell Barker and a sister, Evone Durborow.
She is survived by a daughter, Mary Linda Davidson of Coatesville, Pa.; two brothers, Wade Barker Jr. of West Grove, Pa. and Richard Barker of Landenberg, Pa.; a sister, Dorothy Alfree of Rehoboth Beach; two grandsons; and two great-grandchildren.

E. Pearl Woodall, 91, of Rehoboth Beach, died Thursday, Sept. 2, 2004, at home.
Mrs. Woodall was born in Willards, Md., the daughter of the late Emory and Dorothy Mae Lewis. She was the former owner of the Sail In Restaurant in Rehoboth Beach during the 1950s and 1960s. She loved her family and in her spare time enjoyed gardening.
She was preceded in death by a son, Virgil Shockley; two sisters, Levina Pizzica and Hazel Nichols; five brothers, Thomas Lewis Sr., Joshua E. Lewis, Edward Lewis, Frank and Preston Lewis.
She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Franklin R. Woodall; two daughters, Elizabeth “Teeny” Chandler and Barbara Ann Booker,” a sister, Alberta Brooks Nichols; three grandsons, William P. Shockley III, Michael Shockley and Robert Wilkins; four granddaughters, Denise Tripp and her husband Dennis, Linda Tripp and her husband Alan, Lorraine Edwards and Brenda Baker; numerous great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Robert J. “Pony Tail Bob” Neish, 64, of Milton and formerly of McKeesport, Pa., died Saturday, Sept. 4, 2004, at Milford Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Neish was a retired journeyman-lineman for Union Local 126 I.B.E.W. He was past master of East McKeesport Masonic Lodge 765 FM&AM and a member of Elks Lodge 11 of Pittsburgh, Pa., and served in the U.S. Army. He was also an avid fisherman.
He was preceded in death by his grandson, Nickolaus Bedwell.
He is survived by his wife, Norma Mumford Niesh; a son, Robert J. Neish Jr.; six stepchildren; two brothers, Pat and Arnie McGuire; a sister, Tina Anderson; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and six nieces and nephews and six nieces and nephews; and his faithful dog, Fluffy.

Mrs. Wildt was a member of All Saints’ Episcopal Church and the Rehoboth Art League as well as a member of Henlopen Acres Beach Club and a former member of the Rehoboth Beach Country Club.
She attended West Virginia University and was a 65-year member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. She was also a member of the Colonial Dames of America.
She is survived by a son, Chris Wildt of Lewes, Cape Gazette's cartoonist; two daughters, Mimi Bodamer of Vienna, Va. and Nancy Driver of Lookout Mountain, Tenn. She has eight great-grandchildren.

Sheila Mae Eggers, 50, of Milford, died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2004, at home.
Mrs. Eggers was born April 3, 1954, in Elkton, Md., the daughter of Stella Viars Kellum of Elkton and the late Earl M. Kellum.
She was a waitress for many years at the Robin Hood Restaurant in Rehoboth Beach and, most recently, at the Hollywood Diner in Dover. She retired in 2003 due to illness.
She enjoyed playing pool and attending races at the Cecil County (Md.) Dragway.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Earl Kellum.
She is survived by her husband of nine years, Joseph H. Eggers III; a son and daughter-in-law, Don and Heather Kellum of Chesapeake City, Md.; her mother, Stella Kellum of Elkton; a brother, Larry D. Kellum of Mansfield, Texas; a sister, Sheree A. Aufiero of Newark; and two grandchildren, Connor Kellum and Riley Kellum.
Services were held at Rogers Funeral Home, Milford, with burial private.

John Earl Burke,
retired from Scott Paper
John Earl Burke, 77, of Lewes, died peacefully Friday, Sept. 3, 2004, at home after a courageous battle with cancer.
Mr. Burke was born in Marcus Hook, Pa. on March 17, 1927. He was employed by Scott Paper Co., Chester Pa., where he retired after more than 40 years of service several years ago.
He was a life member of VFW 7447 and the American Legion Post 28 and member of AmVets Post 2 and the Cape Henlopen Elks 2540. He will be missed by all who loved him, enjoyed his smile and laughed at the jokes he loved to tell.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Mae Burke.
He is survived by his brother, Jesse Burke and nephew, Jay Burke both of Boothwyn, Pa. He is also survived by his longtime companion, Selma Weiss of Lewes.

Robert E. LaVigne, 56, of Lititz, Pa., and Rehoboth Beach, died unexpectedly Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2004, at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes, due to natural causes.
Born in Lancaster, Pa., he was the son of the late Malcolm and Mary LaVigne.
He was the husband of Linda Ludwig LaVigne; they were married 32 years on Dec. 3.
He retired from the U.S. Air Force and enjoyed fishing, woodworking and animals.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Jeffrey C., husband of Molly A. Lieberman LaVigne of Catasauqua; a daughter, Jessica D., wife of Jeremy P. Diffenderfer of Lititz; three brothers, Donald LaVigne of Lititz, Barry LaVigne of Charlotte, N.C., and Richard LaVigne of Richmond, Va.; and a sister, Sally Fry of Lititz. He was preceded in death by a brother, Glen LaVigne.
A memorial service will be at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 7, at the Stradling Funeral Home, 201 Church Ave., Ephrata, Pa., with the Rev. Barbara A. Caruana officiating. Friends may call from 6 to 7 p.m.

John L. Dorfmann, 80, of Millsboro, died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2004 at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes. He was born in Corona, New York and was a retired supervisor for Merle Lynch Inc. with 37 years of service.
He was a member of Mary Mother of Peace Catholic Church in Millsboro. He is survived by his wife, Rosemary; daughter, Jeanne Marie Wengal and her husband Michael; a stepbrother, O. George Boettiger; and sister, Helen Greenough.
A mass of Christian burial will be offered on Saturday, Sept. 4 at 11 a.m. at Mary Mother of Peace Catholic Church on Route 24 in Millsboro. Friends may call on Friday, Sept. 3 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the chapel of Melson Funeral Services on Long Neck Road in Millsboro. Interment will be in the National Veterans Cemetery in Bourne, Mass.
Edgar F. Lingo,
Merchant Marine
Edgar F. Lingo, 70, of Rehoboth Beach and a former Staten Islander in New York, died at home Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2004. Mr. Lingo graduated from New Dorp High School.
He joined the Merchant Marines when he was 18 years old. Mr. Lingo was a Merchant Marine on salvage ships. He was chief engineer for Merritt Chapman & Scott for many years. Later Mr. Lingo was a chief engineer for the Staten Island Ferry.
Upon retiring in 1996 to Rehoboth Beach, Mr. Lingo enjoyed designing and building vacation homes. Mr. Lingo’s other interests included gardening and automobile repair.
He was preceded in death by his parents Edgar B. Lingo and Ethel “Austin” Lingo.
He is survived by his wife Lorraine Atkinson Lingo of Rehoboth Beach; his son Edward Lingo and his wife Elizabeth of Waukesha, Wis.; his son James Lingo of Staten Island; his daughter Holly Hernandez and her husband Robert of Easton, Pa.; and four grandaughers, Heather, Melissa and Mallory Hernandez of Easton and Julia Lingo of Waukesha.
Funeral services will be at noon, Friday, Sept. 3, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 1449 Kings Highway, Lewes, where friends may call at 11 a.m. Interment will be at 1 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 5, at St. John’s Cemetery, Springfield Crossroads, near Georgetown.

Charles H. Reynolds,

Charles H. Reynolds, 75, of Lewes, died Monday, Aug. 30, 2004, at home after a long illness.
Born in New Castle, Charlie joined the Delaware National Guard while still in his teens and was activated during the Korean War. He was a 45-year member of Local 74 Plumbers and Pipefitters and a long time employee of the former Wm. D. Shellady Company.
When his sons were growing up, he participated in the Boy Scouts of America Troop 57, activities at St. Patrick’s Church in Kennett Square, Pa., the Optimists club, serving as president for two terms, Longwood Fire Co., Po-Mar-Lin Fire Co. and served many years as president of the Southern Chester County Rescue Association. When he retired in 1981, he and his wife moved to their home in Angola by the Bay.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Louise Bonifacino Reynolds; and his seven sons, Charles H. Jr and his wife Glenda of Kennett Square, Pa., Thomas e. of El Paso, Texas, Richard J. and his wife Rose Marie of West Grove, Pa., Joseph M. and his wife Dawn of Gales Ferry, Ct., William V. and his wife Jacqueline of Avondale, Pa., David L. and his wife Karen of West Grove, Pa. and Neal F. of Avondale, Pa. Charles was also the proud “Pop Pop” to 16 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Margaretta R. Scheirer of Smyrna; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Laurence Jr. and sister, Frances Reynolds.
A memorial reception was held at the Angola by the Bay clubhouse with burial in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro. Anna Elizabeth “Noonie” Holtzlander, 84, of Edgefield, S.C. and formerly of Wilmington, died Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2004, at home.
Mrs. Holtzlander was a native of Edgefield County and was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church of Edgefield. She was a retired social worker.
She is survived by her husband, George W. Holtzlander; a daughter, Christine Hodgson of Edgefield; a son and daughter-in-law, Joseph H. and Lynn Holtzlander of Lewes; a sister, Katherine Scavens of Edgefield; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Ralph Harrison Lyons,

Ralph Harrison Lyons, 86, of Georgetown, died Monday, Aug. 30, 2004, in Genesis Elder Care in Seaford, his residence for the past two weeks.
Mr. Lyons was born in Milford to the late Vernon Lee Sr. and Helen Willey Lyons.
He had been a life underwriter for Monumental Life Insurance Co. for 26 years, retiring several years ago. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving for five years. Thirty-two months of that service was in the Southwest Pacific Theatre in three battle campaigns. He served in the U.S. Army Artillery as a specialist 5th class in the Battery Armor and Maintenance Section.
His memberships included Gideons International and the First Baptist Church of Georgetown.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Venetia Parker Lyons; and a sister, Doris L. Mangini, Wilmington.
Services were held at Short Funeral Services, Georgetown, with burial in Union Cemetery, Georgetown.

Clarence Burton Stewart,

Clarence Burton Stewart, 83, of Lewes, died Friday, Aug. 27, 2004, after a lengthy illness, at home.
Mr. Stewart was born Jan. 16, 1921, in Lewes, son of the late Annie Burton and Henry P. Stewart.
He received his early education in the Lewes School and graduated from high school at the former Delaware State College, now Delaware State University. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Rhineland in northern France, receiving the American Service Medical, the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.
After being honorably discharged, he returned home and went to work for Doxsee Clam Factory, retiring in 1978 as plant production supervisor after more than 40 years’ service.
Mr. Stewart was a member of St. George AME Church and its men’s club, and was a former member of Rising Sun Lodge 4, Milton.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Pauline Turpin Stewart; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Clarence B. “Yank” Stewart Jr. of Norristown, Pa. and Anthony H. “Tony” and Cynthia Stewart of Seaford; his mother-in-law, Sarah A. Turpin of Denton, Md.; a sister-in-law, Hilda Mae Wilson of Denton; and two grandchildren.
Services were held in St. George AME Church, Lewes, with burial in People’s Memorial Park, Lewes.

Rose Ellen Wojszwillo, 76, of Long Neck, formerly of Reading, Pa., died Saturday, Aug. 28, 2004, at home.
Mrs. Wojszwillo was a retired clothing inspector for Grief Men’s Clothing in Allentown, Pa.
She is survived by her husband, Francis R. Wojszwillo; stepson Craig; brothers Bob Lengel and John Petinko; sisters Lorrain Rathman and Elaine Strunk; two stepgranddaughters; and a step great-granddaughter.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Sept. 3 at the Long Neck Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, Long Neck, and at 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 4, at the Kirkhoff Funeral Home, 206 Main Street, Bernville, Pa. Burial will be private.
