Marcia Shihadeh,
Rehoboth restaurateur
Marcia Shihadeh, of Rehoboth Beach and Henlopen Acres, beloved wife, sister, aunt and friend, died Sunday, Nov. 27, 2005, at home following a brief illness.
Marcia was born in Ketchikan, Alaska, Jan. 19, 1949, the second of nine children born to the late Henry and Jane Boynton Weed.
While living in New York City, Marcia was employed at Cunard Trafalger. It was in New York City that she met the man who would become her partner in life, Mohammad “Richie” Shihadeh. They married in 1974 and moved to Rehoboth Beach in 1975, to establish The Camel’s Hump Restaurant which they operated for 30 years before closing the doors in Sept. 2005.
Marcia was proud to serve on the Delaware Real Estate Commission as a public member. She will be remembered for her generosity, her humor and her zest for life.
In addition to her husband, Marcia is survived by her three sisters, Suzanne Monaghan and her husband, Allen, of Hornell, N.Y., Georgia Weed of Ithaca, N.Y., and Lucia Sacco and her husband, Mark, of Ithaca, N.Y.; three brothers, William Weed of Bath, N.Y., David Weed and his wife, Noelle, of Dover, and Luke Weed and his wife, Debbie, of Honeoye, N.Y.; and her loving nieces and nephews, Katie Monaghan, Julia Monaghan, Jonathan Weed, Danielle Blanton, Jodi Weed, Matt Sacco, Nick Sacco, Whitney Weed, Sara Weed, Josh Weed, Andrew Weed and Haley Weed.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Wesley and Matthew.
Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 30, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Hwy., Lewes.

Robert Joseph Riniker,

Robert Joseph Riniker, 65, of Lewes, passed away in his home Nov. 23, 2005. He was a 1958 graduate of Lewes High School.
He attended Philadelphia College of Art and worked as a designer for Gimbel’s Department Store for 11 years. He returned to Lewes in 1977 where he worked for Tom Best in the garden center.
He is the son of the late Franklin and Marian Riniker of Lewes. He is survived by his brother James Riniker, an uncle Medford King, his aunts Catherine Riniker and Wanda King, his cousins Doug Riniker, Kay Riniker Pierce, Ben King, Tom King, and Sandra King Flynn.
Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Beebe Medical Foundation, Cardiac Rehab Department, 902 Savannah Road, Lewes, DE 19958.

Bettie S. (Stallings) Wheeler, 87, of Georgetown, died Friday, Nov. 25, 2005, at Harrison Senior Living in Georgetown.
Mrs. Wheeler was born in McKeesport, Pa., to William B. and Belle (Whigham) Stallings in 1918. She graduated from McKeesport High School and the University of West Virginia. She was employed as a junior high school teacher for many years in Pennsylvania. After retiring she moved to Rehoboth Beach and sold real estate for Virginia Joy Realtors.
Mrs. Wheeler was a member of Westminister Presbyterian Church of Rehoboth Beach.
She is survived by her husband, John M. Wheeler; a daughter, Anne Velazquez and her husband Edward of Georgia; and one son, John M. Wheeler Jr. and his wife Karen of Selbyville.
Services and burial will be private.

V. Loretta Bunting, 76, of Georgetown, died Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2005, in her home..
Mrs. Bunting was born Feb. 11, 1929, in Georgetown, daughter of the late Harry A. and Ella M. (Calloway) Joseph.
She was employed at Arrow Safety Device, National Cash Register and the cafeteria at Delaware Technical & Community College.
Her pastimes were crafts including arranging flowers.
Mrs. Bunting valued her church, Bethesda United Methodist Church, and its members and had been a board member, a secretary, a choir member, and a nominating committee member. She dedicated her time teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for many years and also had been a secretary and member of the United Methodist Women. She worked in the Robin Hood Thrift Shop and visited the Millsboro Nursing Home, Green Valley Terrace to bring her crafts and brighten the days of the patients.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Melvin L. Joseph; and two sisters, Hilda Pettyjohn and Janie Smith.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Clifford Bunting; two sons and two daughters-in-law, Stanley and Rebecca Bunting and Charles and Mary Jean Bunting, all of Georgetown; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Thelma Corso and Shirley and Jim Short; two sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law, Carol and Harry Moore and Thelma and Donald Brittingham; five grandchildren and their spouses, Wendy Schiavone, Christopher and Robin Bunting, Jessica and Allen Hazzard; Kelly Lewis and Kenny and Kimberly Pettyjohn; a great-grandson, Trevor Schiavone; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Services were held in the Chapel of Short Funeral Services, Georgetown, with burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park, U.S. 113, Millsboro.

Wayne L. Watson, 48, of Milton died of natural causes Monday, Nov. 21, 2005, in Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Watson was born Dec. 5, 1956, in Milford, son of Morris and Juanita Watson.
He was employed by the town of Milton.
Mr. Watson was a member of the Bethel A.M.E. Church, where he served on the men’s choir.
He is survived by his wife, Myra Watson of Lincoln; a son, Wayne A. Watson of Milton; a grandson, Malachi Watson of Harrington; his father and stepmother, Morris and Henrietta Watson of Milton, his mother, Juanita Watson of Seaford; two sisters, Marcia Cannon of Bridgeville and Sharon Watson of Milton; two brothers, Henri Blake of Millsboro and Garland Fountain of Claymont; three uncles, John Freshwater of Seaford, Raymond Williams of Georgetown and Woolford Fountain of Philadelphia; two stepchildren, Jerome Shockley and Carinda Shockley, both of Lincoln; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Services were held in Bethel A.M.E. Church, Milton, where friends may call two hours earlier.
Burial will be in the First Congregational Cemetery, Milton.

Frank M. Gabriel, 77, of Millsboro and formerly of Vincentown, N.J., passed away Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2005, in his home..
Mr. Gabriel was born in Philadelphia, son of the late Walter and Anna (Walsh) Gabriel.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a mechanic for the U.S. Army.
He was a retired maintenance and diesel mechanic.
Mr. Gabriel was a member of the American Legion Post 28 of Oak Orchard and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Mason-Dixon Post 7234 of Quillens Point in Ocean View.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley; a son, Frank of Mays Landing, N.J.; two daughters, Denise Mascio of Mays Landing and Susan Vico of Chestertown, Md.; two sisters, Jean Gibson and June Kerstetter, both of Lansdowne, Pa.; three grandsons, Frank Gabriel, Todd Gabriel and Vincent Mascio; four granddaughters, Danielle Mascio, Melissa Gabriel, Tammy Gabriel and Nicole Vico; and a great-grandson, Frank Gabriel.
Services were held in the Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, Long Neck Road, Long Neck, with memorial services held in the Chapel of the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery South, near Millsboro.

Jama A. Smith, 32, of Rehoboth Beach, formerly of Pittsburgh, died Sunday, Nov. 6, 2005, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 32.
Mr. Smith was loved by his family and is sadly missed.
He is survived by his mother, Karen Redman of Rochester, N.Y; his father, Charles Reed of Pittsburgh; a brother, Terrence Smith of Pittsburgh; two sisters, Jamaica Brown and Tonisha Reed, both of Pittsburgh; and his life partner, Dwight Horsey of Rehoboth Beach.
Burial was in Sunnyside Road Cemetery, Smyrna.

Emily Louise (Dailey) Vannicola, 88, of Greenwood passed away Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2005, in Saint James Mercy Hospital, Hornell, N.Y.
Mrs. Vannicola was born Oct. 3, 1917, in Sussex County, Northwest Fork Hundred, near Greenwood, daughter of the late James Thomas Dailey and Luise Sander.
She married Jacob Vannicola on Jan. 14, 1934, in Elkton, Md., and they resided in Stanton until relocating to their Blanchard Road, Greenwood farm in 1953, which had been owned by her late German grandfather, John Wilham Sander and his wife Emilie (Flugel) Sander.
Mrs. Vannicola was a loving and supporting mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jacob Vannicola in 1982; a brother, James Thomas Patrick Dailey; and a sister, Anna Marie Dailey.
She is survived by five children and their spouses, Jean Louise Vannicola of Milford, Harry Phillip Sr. and Mary Lou Vannicola of Hornell, with whom she had stayed for a year before her passing, John William and Betty Lee Vannicola of Bridgeville, with whom she had lived for the previous 21/2 years before moving to Hornell, Dorothy Ann and Lloyd Baker of Pot Nets and James Jacob Vannicola of Chicago; and 17 grandchildren and their spouses, John J. Sr. and Joyce Zoch of Seaford, Kathleen L. and Michael Parks of Georgia, Janine R. Zoch of Salisbury, Md., Sonya D. Russell of Milford, Tanya D. and Mark Sturgeon of Milford, Suzanne L. and John W. Wheatley of Bridgeville, Harry P. LeRoy B. West,

LeRoy B. West, 71, of Millsboro died Friday, Nov. 25, 2005, in Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford. He was 71.
Mr. West was born in Laurel, son of the late Benjamin and Ruth Parsons West.
He was a livestock and grain farmer for more than 35 years and was also a skilled homebuilder, in the past working for other companies and most recently for himself. He was a handy craftsman and was known to be able to build or fix almost anything.
He enjoyed sports and played football and softball in his younger years. He continued his love for softball for many years as he played in the church adult leagues for the Trinity United Methodist Church team. Hunting and fishing were favorite hobbies of his and he was very interested in genealogy and tracing his family’s roots.
Mr. West was a member of Charity Lodge 27, Independent Order of Odd Fellows in Laurel.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Ellen M. West; a son, Chris West of Georgetown; four grandchildren, Kevin West of Laurel, Dustin West of Naples, Fla., Chadwick West and his wife, Christina of New York, N.Y. and Jennifer Dwyer of Naples; two great-grandchildren, Savannah West and Katelynn Hamilton: a sister and a brother-in-law, Mary Ellen and David “Sonny” Evans of Laurel; an uncle, Raymond Parsons of Laurel; and several nieces, nephews and many cousins.
An Odd Fellows service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in Short Funeral Home, 700 West St., Laurel, where friends may call two hours earlier. Funeral services will follow. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Laurel.
Robert A. King,

Robert A. King, 62 of Hockessin, and formerly of New Castle, passed away Saturday, Nov. 26, 2005, at home.
Mr. King had been employed with the DuPont Co. as a bio med technician for 37 years at the Experimental Station. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. During his leisure time, Mr. King enjoyed winemaking, sailing on his catamaran, golf and travel.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 36 years Linda Hazel King; their son, Christopher; a brother, Charles H. King and his wife, Theresa, of Smyrna; and a sister, Beverly Clarke of Lewes.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert E. King and Eleanor L. Williams King.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Wednesday, Nov. 30, at 11 a.m., at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 2503 Centerville Rd., Wilmington. Visitation will be Tuesday, Nov. 29, from 7-9 p.m., at the Gebhart Funeral Home, 531 Delaware St. New Castle. Burial will be in Gracelawn Memorial Park, New Castle.

Raymond L. Banks Jr.,

Raymond L. Banks Jr., 87, of Dagsboro, died peacefully at his home Sunday, Nov. 27, 2005.
He was born in Dagsboro, the son of the late Raymond L. Banks Sr. and Emmam Tyre Banks. He was a retired farmer and racehorse owner and member of the U.S. Trotting Association.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Ezekiel E. Banks, in 1974.
He is survived by his wife, Mary E. Banks; three sons, Raymond Banks III of Georgetown and David and Russell Banks, both of Dagsboro; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two stepchildren, Carol Eiserman and Darlene Henry, both of Virginia; three stepgrandchildren; four sisters, Verdie West, Margaret West, Pearl Robinson and Linda Showell; and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at noon, Friday, Dec. 2, at the chapel of Melson Funeral Services, Thatcher Street, Frankford, where friends may call after 11 a.m. and from 7 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 1. Interment will be in St. George’s Cemetery, Clarksville.

Robert G. Stewart, 74, died Thursday, Nov. 17, 2005, at the Washington Hospice after hospital treatment for respiratory illness.
He was the senior curator emeritus at the National Portrait Gallery, Smithsonian Institution after serving as curator of paintings and sculpture 1964-1994.
He was curator for the Jefferson Barracks Historical Park in St. Louis, 1958-1961; director of properties for the National Trust for Historic Preservation, Washington, 1961-1964; visiting lecturer at The George Washington University, 1967-1970; author: Nucleus for a National Collection, 1965; A Nineteenth-Century Gallery of Distinguished Americans, 1969; Henry Benbridge (1743-1812): American Portrait Painter, 1971; Robert Edge Pine, A British Artist in America 1784-1788, 1979; cons. The Papers of George Washington, 1990-1998; Director Landmarks of St. Louis, 1959-1961 and was a member of The Lewes Historical Society, Walpole Society, Association of Historians of American Art, the Four Seasons Garden Club and Zeta Psi. He served in the U. S. Army, 1954-1956.
Mr. Stewart resided in Washington, D.C. and Lewes. He was the son of Kenneth Elsworth Stewart and Ruth (Chambers) S. Stewart born in Baltimore, Md.
He is survived by cousins George E. Chambers Jr., George E. Chambers III, Robert C. Chambers, Margaret C. Heer, Robert Gary Stewart, Richard C. Barnard, Susanne Barnard, Michael C. Heer, godson; David B. Gay, friend; and Kurt W. Wubbena, friend.
Services for Mr. Stewart will be conducted at the Pumphrey Funeral Home, 7557 Wisconsin Ave., Bethesda, Md. at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3.
A second service will be held at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Second and Market streets, Lewes, at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 4.
He will be interned at St. Peter’s Cemetery, Pilottown Road, Lewes, Delaware.

Laura K. Smith,

Laura K. Smith, 82, of Millsboro, died Sunday, Nov, 20, 2005, at Green Valley Terrace Nursing Home in Millsboro.
Ms. Smith was born March 13, 1923 in Auburn, N.Y., the daughter of the late William and Lucy Knapp Smith.
Ms. Smith graduated from Auburn City Hospital in 1944 as a registered nurse where she eventually became supervisor of the Pediatric Department. In the 1960s, she received a bachelor’s degree in teaching from Columbia University, New York City, and then became chairperson of Nursing Services for the Auburn City School System.
While living in New York, she was a member of the Zonta Club, a professional woman’s organization. Ms. Smith retired in 1984 and moved to Lewes where she joined Conley’s Chapel Methodist Church and was a very active member of its women’s association.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, William Smith; and her sister Elizabeth Short.
She is survived by her niece, Katherine Rotach and her husband, John, of Milton; a nephew, Kenneth Smith and his wife Nora of Sarasota, Fla.; a nephew Kerry Smith and his wife Debbie of Lewes; six grandnieces and nephews; and a sister-in-law, Evelyn Smith of Sarasota, Fla.
A Memorial Service will be held at Conley’s Chapel Methodist Church, Conley’s Chapel Road, near Angola, Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2005, 11 a.m.; Pastor Randy Booth will be officiating. Interment will be at a later date in New York.

Philip F. Arena, 73, of Lewes, died Monday, Nov. 21, 2005, at his residence.
Mr. Arena was born in Rochester, N.Y., son of the late Frank D. and Jennie D’Angelo Arena. He was a graduate of Jeneseo State College, New York with a high school teaching degree. He had served as a high school soccer coach, and as the school board president for many years in the Monroe County, N.Y. school district.
He had owned and operated several successful auto dealerships in New York state. He retired to the Lewes area in 1989 and owned and operated Market Place Signs and Copies. Mr. Arena served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Mr. Arena is survived by one daughter, Amy Arena of Schenectady, N.Y; three sons, Christopher P. Arena of North Conway, N.Y., David A. Arena of Coatesville, Pa., and Paul A. Arena of Lewes, a brother, Carl Arena of Honeoye Falls, N.Y.; and a granddaughter, Reilly Arena.
He was predeceased by his wife, Suzonne Catherine Arena, in Oct. 2004.

George P. Vinyard Sr.,

George P. Vinyard, 90, of Millsboro, died Monday, Nov. 21, 2005, in his home.
Mr. Vinyard was born Feb. 13, 1915, in Milford, son of the late Ida and Harry E. Vinyard Sr.
He resided in Baltimore for many years, before moving to Millsboro in 1989. He was employed as a casket salesman for York Casket Co. in Baltimore for 42 years, retiring in 1979.
He was a former captain of the Milford High School basketball and football teams and had played semi-pro ball in each. He enjoyed all sports, especially golf, fishing and was an avid Baltimore Colts fan.
Mr. Vinyard was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Millsboro, a life member of the American Legion Post 28 in Millsboro, a member of the Free & Accepted Masons in Baltimore, a member of the Tall Cedars of Lebanon in Pennsylvania and a member of the St. George Society in Baltimore.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Vinyard; and a brother, Harry E. Vinyard Jr.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Helen Holland Vinyard; three sons, George P. Vinyard Jr. of Ocean Pines, Md., Gregory P. Vinyard Sr. of Bel Air, Md., and Curtis H. Vinyard of Towson, Md.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services were held in St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Millsboro. Burial was in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro.

Everett W. Robinson Jr.

Everett Wrighter Robinson Jr., 85, formerly of Kiamensi Gardens, passed away Monday, Nov. 21, 2005.
He and his beloved, the former Barbara E. Niblett, were married nearly 61 years until her death in 2003; they enjoyed camping in Lancaster, Florida, Williamsburg, and at the beach. Everett loved his cars, which were always waxed and buffed and sported an E.W.R. vanity tag. He also coached or assisted with his son’s baseball teams and helped move a giant football scoreboard from the University of Delaware and install it at Dickinson High School.
While attending Conrad High School Everett rose at 4 a.m. daily to help his father deliver milk for Fraim’s Dairy before school. A member of Ironworkers Local 451 union, he was a foreman for Savery and Cooke, Inc. and Erectors, Inc., where he worked for 40 years. He built staircases in many Delaware schools, as well as the Grand Opera House and Del Tech Stanton, and installed the brass doors at Longwood Gardens.
After retirement, he chatted up homeowners as a painter for his son’s business, E. Robinson Painting, Inc. Everett was a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church and a former member of Christ United Methodist Church.
The son of Everett W. Sr. and Emaline Hackendom Robinson, Everett is survived by his twin brother, John B. and his wife Beverly, and children, Shirley and Howard Leverage of Newark, Judith and Arthur Frampton of Rehoboth, and Everett W., Ill and Susan Robinson of Hockessin. He will be missed, too, by grandchildren Kimberly Leverage and Michael Donaldson, Robert Leverage and Rachel Danna, Richard Leverage, Dawn Frampton and Frank Townsend, Arthur Jr. and Jeri Frampton:, Mark and Cheryl Kelley Frampton, Matthew and Michelle Robinson, and Kathleen Robinson; Collin Robinson died in 1998. Everett also leaves great-grandchildren Kelly and Michael Donaldson, Frank and Rachel Townsend, Megan, Robert, Lauren, and Kylee Leverage, and Jonathan and Jarod Kelley.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service on Saturday, Nov. 26 at 10:30 a.m. at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Rd., Pike Creek where friends may call after 9 a.m. Interment will be in All Saints’ Cemetery.

Bruce Norman Baker, 64, of Rehoboth Beach, died Monday, Nov. 21, 2005 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, Md.
He was born Nov. 3, 1941 in Mississippi County, Mo., son of the late Harold and Frances Caldwell Baker.
Mr. Baker retired from the Navy in 1977 as an E-7 Chief. Following his military service, he worked as a civilian with the U.S. Navy in Virginia Beach, Va. as an Aviation Supply Specialist. He loved fishing, bowling and hunting. He is survived by his devoted companion “Buzzy” Emily Logan; three sons, Daniel Baker of Elkridge, Md., Jason Baker of Virginia Beach; Ethan Baker of Charlotte, N.C.; six grandchildren; and his sister Betty Lou Johnson of Las Vegas, Nev.

Louise Repp FitzGerald passed away at home in Chalfonte Monday, Nov. 21, 2005.
She was born Aug. 29, 1908 in Dayton, Oh., the daughter of the late Dr. George E. and Henrietta Repp.
She grew up in the Wilmington area, attended the old Mt. Pleasant School and graduated from Wilmington High School in 1927. She married Malvin D. FitzGerald on April 7, 1928. Malvin predeceased Louise in 1990 after 62 years of marriage. Louise worked at Sun Oil Co. Refinery Lab as a lab technician for 28 years, retiring in 1971. She enjoyed bowling and her family and was active at Atonement Methodist Church where she was a member for over 30 years. She was also active in the Woman’s Club of Claymont.
Louise is survived by two sons, Alwyn D. at home and Frank G. and his wife, Ada Mae, of Milton. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Frank G., II and his wife, Romaine, of Lewes, Lynn and her husband, David Reese, of Clayton and David P. and his wife, Melinda, of Clayton; and six great-grandchildren, Frank Carl, Stephan Ray, David Paul, Evan Jacob, Amanda and Samantha.
Services will be private.

Frank M. Gabriel, 77, of Millsboro and formerly of Vincetown, N.J., passed away at his home Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2005.
He was born in Philadelphia, the son of the late Walter and Anna Walsh Gabriel. Frank was a retired maintenance and diesel mechanic and was a veteran of World War II, serving as mechanic for the U.S. Army.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 28 of Oak Orchard and VFW Mason-Dixon Post 7234 of Quillen’s Point.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley; a son, Frank, of Mays Landing, N.J.; two daughters, Denise Mascio of Mays Landing and Susan Vico of Chestertown, Md.; two sisters, Jean Gibson and June Kerstetter, both of Landsdowne, Pa.; three grandsons, Frank and Todd Gabriel and Vincent Mascio; four granddaughters, Daneille Mascio, Melissa and Tammy Gabriel, Nicole Vico; and a great-grandson, Frank Gabriel.
A visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 27, at the chapel of Melson Funeral Services, Long Neck Road.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, Nov. 28, at the chapel of the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro.

Joan Louise Devaney Schwarz, 73, of Bethany Beach, was taken to our Lord and to her husband Saturday, Nov. 19, 2005.
She was the wonderful wife to the late Robert C. Schwarz and mother to Kim A. Schwarz McIntyre of Smyrna and Douglas C. Schwarz of Dagsboro.
Joan was a great and devoted wife, mother and homemaker. Joan was a person who gave everything she had to whatever she was involved in. She was born and raised in Philadelphia, daughter of the late Charles and Mabel Devaney; attended Frankford High School and trained at Lankenau Hospital in Philadelphia and became a registered nurse.
She guided Kim and Doug through life and marriage; Doug to Carla Larkin Schwarz and Kim to G. Steven McIntyre. She also guided two grandchildren, Laura A. Schwarz and Jared D. Schwarz, both of Dagsboro, through high school and into college.
Her devotion and love to her family will be truly missed. She also found great joy in her step-great-grandson, Shayne McIntyre. She was most happy with her husband on the beach and where they now are together again.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday Nov. 22, at 2 p.m., at the Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Clarksville Chapel, routes. 26 and 17, Clarksville, where friends may call after 1 p.m. Burial will be Monday, Nov. 28, at 2 p.m., at the Delaware Veterans Cemetery, Bear.

Mrs. Lankford was born in Port Penn, daughter of the late Ethel Christian and Melvin Hennessey.
She was a clerk-checker at the former A&P Store in Seaford.
Mrs. Lankford was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Seaford, Chapter 7 Order Of Eastern Star, a member of the Senior Citizens Club, member of the Ladies Auxiliary Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, a past member of the Ladies Auxiliary Seaford Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the former Miriam Rebekah Lodge 20.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alton Carter Lankford in 1997.
She is survived by a son, A. Steven Lankford of Seaford; a daughter, Mary Ellen Lynch of Seaford; two stepsons, Ronald Eugene Lankford of Rehoboth Beach and Donald L. Lankford of Portsville; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in Wesley United Methodist Church, Atlanta Road, Seaford. The Rev. Ed Kuhling will officiate.

Ralph M. Messick, 69, of Lincoln passed away Friday, Nov. 18, 2005, in his home..
Mr. Messick was born in Bridgeville, son of the late Norman L. and Hannah Mitchell Messick.
He was very active in the painting and contracting business that he owned and operated for 35 years.
He had been a past coach with the Milford little league.
Mr. Messick was a member of the Milford Elks Lodge 2401 and a former member of the Memorial Fire Co.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, James Messick and Norman Messick.

Joan Trotter of Lewes, formerly of Toronto, Canada, passed away Wednesday, November 15, 2005 at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes. Mrs. Trotter was born April 8, 1950 in Sneedville, Tenn., the daughter of the late Hubert Hopkins and Mrs. Vacie (Ratliff) Hopkins of Catonsville, Md.
Mrs. Trotter was loved by everyone who knew her.
She was survived by her loving husband Mark Allen Trotter of Lewes; one daughter, Shannon Trotter of Lewes; and one sister, Jean Williams of Catonsville, Md.

Esther C. Tigue, 88, of ManorCare Health Services, Lancaster, Pa. died Tuesday, November 15, 2005 in the nursing center.
Formerly of Wilmington and Millsboro, Mrs. Tigue was a homemaker. She also worked part-time for the voter registration in Delaware and was of the Catholic faith. Mrs. Tigue was an accomplished seamstress and loved to cook.
Born in Paoli, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Frank and Marguerite King Bloomer. Her husband, Charles A. Tigue died in 1990.
Mrs. Tigue is survived by two daughters, Margaret married to Jack Williams, and Caroline M. York, both of St. Petersburg, Fla.; two sons, Charles M. married to Jean Tigue, Pennsville, N.J,, and Michael J. married to Julie Tigue, Lewes; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren; a brother, Frank Bloomer, West Chester; and four sisters, Adeline Gingras, Norristown, Lois Dorazio, Northeast, Md., Elizabeth Ashe, Detroit, Mich., and Carol Parke, Corpus Christi, Texas. She was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Bloomer, and two sisters, Frances Roberts and Helen Lewis.

Harry Moody Barker Sr., 80 of West Grove, Pa. died Sunday, Nov. 13, 2005, after a long illness with emphysema and a short battle with cancer.
He was the husband of the late Susan Marie Barker, who died in 1981. Together they shared 34 years of marriage.
Born in Lansing, N.C., he was the son of the late Arthur G. and Eula Eller Barker. A veteran, he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He was employed by Chrysler at the Newark plant for 39 years until his retirement in 1990. Harry enjoyed playing golf, metal detecting and bowling. All who knew him will affectionately miss him.
He is survived by a son, Harry M. Barker Jr. of Wilmington; a daughter, Kathryn Morton and her husband, Gregory, of Wilmington; granddaughters and great granddaughters, Candi Barker and her daughter, Lauren, of Kennett Square, Pa., Tiffany Testa and her husband, Vincent, and their daughters, Izabella and Antonia of New Castle, and Hillary Morton and her daughters, Kayla and Victoria, of Lewes; a sister, Reva Shupe of Middletown; and his loving companion of 22 years, Maria Del Signore of West Grove, Pa.

Raymond B. Paterson, 89, of Rehoboth Beach and formerly of Bradford, Pa., died Thursday, Nov. 10, 2005, at Beebe Medical Center, Lewes. Since April 2004, he had resided at Brandywine Assisted Living at Seaside Pointe.
Mr. Patterson was born on Sept. 20, 1916, in Prescottville, Pa., the son of Thomas and Ethel Paterson.
Mr. Paterson was a graduate of Reynoldsville (Pa.) High School in 1934. He had worked as a pressman, retiring in 1980 from McCourt Label Company. He was a former trustee of the Bradford First United Methodist Church and board member of the Greater Bradford Senior Center. HE was a member of Bradford Masonic Lodge 749 for 52 years. Also, he was a member of AARP and taught for several years in that organization’s driver safety program. While residing in this area, his spiritual needs were graciously taken care of by the staff and members of Groome United Methodist Church, Lewes.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel, in March 1976.
He is survived by a son, Ronald Patterson and his wife Peggy of rehoboth Beach; his daughter, Margaret Prior and her husband John of Bradford his daughter, Sally Wakefield and her husband Phil of Bruceton Mills, W.Va.; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; a sister, Dorothy Barron of Trenton, Mich.; a sister, Marie Bussard of Reynoldsville, Pa.; and a brother, Thomas Paterson of Punxsatawney, Pa.
Services were held at the First United Methodist Church in Bradford, with burial in Lakelawn Cemetery in Reynoldsville.

Mr. Waples was born June 1, 1936, in Rehoboth Beach, son of the late Mary Satchell and Lawrence Waples.
He was a U.S. Marines veteran.
He was employed with the Townsend’s poultry plant in Millsboro.
Mr. Waples was a member of the American Legion and Mount Pleasant Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Carlton Waples and Rueben Satchell.
He is survived by his wife, Bertha Mae Waples of Rehoboth Beach; his stepfather, Rueben Satchell; two brothers, Leroy Satchell and Frankie Satchell, both of Milton; four sisters, Juanita Wiltbanks of Milton, Joyce Fisher of Slaughter Neck, Merril Torres of Greenwood and Anna Satchell of Dover; an uncle, Jake Tingle of Georgetown; a nephew, Demtruis Waples of Texas; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends; and close friends, Anton Hall, Sheena Frazier, Bobby Hopkins and James Shephard.

Earl Lyle Zahler,

Earl Lyle Zahler of Dagsboro, 60, formerly of Boston, N.Y., died Friday, Nov. 11, 2005, in the home of his father-in-law in Lewes, surrounded by his loving family and pets. He was 60.
Mr. Zahler was born July 25, 1945, in Boston, son of Ethel Zahler and the late Lyle Zahler.
He was a graduate of the State University of New York at Morrisville.
Mr. Zahler served in the U.S. Army, working as a food technologist.
Following an honorable discharge, he began his career in quality assurance at King Cole Foods. He later joined the quality control team at Vlasic Foods in Millsboro, where he worked until health issues forced his retirement in 1995.
While working at Vlasic Foods, he met and married his soulmate Robin. The two were inseparable and spent many happy hours caring for their pets, shopping, and antiquing. He will be remembered as a gentle, kind and loving individual who was a friend to everyone he met. Despite challenging health issues, he was quick to offer a winning smile and an offer of help to all who knew him.
Mr. Zahler’s hobbies included participating in pig roast, vintage cars (particularly MGs), NASCAR, water gardening, and surfing the Internet. A great animal lover, he will be sadly missed by his many birds, cats, and dogs. When his health permitted, he delighted in taking his favorite dog “Gilka” to a local nursing facility to share his love of animals with others.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Betty Johnson.
He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Robin Zahler of Dagsboro; his mother, Ethel Zahler of Edinboro, Pa.; his father-in-law, Thomas R. Johnson of Lewes; three brothers and three sisters-in-law, Warren and Lucy Zahler of Columbia, Mo., Carl and Shirley Zahler of Spring Arbor, Mich., and James and Deb Zahler of Edinboro; a sister and a brother-in-law, Margaret “Meg” and Anthony Bonasera of Wading River, N.Y.; five nephews, four nieces, and a host of additional family and friends.

Born in Wilmington, Mrs. Dolson was the daughter of the late William and Greta (Veasey) Kampmann.
She worked for MBNA for the past 12 years in various positions at many sites.
She is survived by her husband of 40 years, F. Bud Dolson; her daughter, Barbara Sullivan of Wilmington; and three grandchildren, Taylor, Morgan and Megan. Also surviving are her sisters, Barbara “Boots” Purdham of Wilmington, Helen McCallister of Lewes and Jean Janvier of Wilmington; and two brothers, William Kampmann of Wilmington and Dinny Kampmann of Millsboro.

Joseph P. Donato, 87, of Lewes and formerly of Philadelphia, Pa. and Trenton, N.J., died Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2005, at the home of a granddaughter.
He was a retired export administrator for Luria Brothers and Ogden Steel in New York City. He served the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth V. Caleo Donato; a brother, Alfred Donato; and two sisters, Marie Castoria and Marion DiMario.
He is survived by two sons, John A. Donato of Lewes and Joseph P. Donato of Broomall, Pa.; a daughter, Maria E. Donato of West Chester, Pa.; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four sisters, Alita Cinncinata, Eleanor DiMarco, Vivian DiMario and Norita Donato, all of South Philadelphia; four brothers, Gerald Donato and Carl Donato, both of New Jersey, Arthur Donato of Wayne, Pa. and Richard Donato of Drexel Hill, Pa.; and many nieces and nephews.

Mildred Mary “Millie” Plunkett, 75, died Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2005 at her home in Rehoboth Beach.
Born in Phoenixville, Pa. she was the daughter of the late Francis Shine and Augusta Benkoski Shine. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Robert Plunkett; and her son, Robert O. “Bobby” Plunkett, also of Rehoboth Beach.
She was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Owen Plunkett. Also surviving is a brother, John Shine, and a sister, Rose Donnelly, both of Phoenixville; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Plunkett had formerly been employed with Denny-Reyburn in West Chester, Pa.
She was the owner and operator with her husband of the Whitson rooms and apartments and Bob’s Bike Rentals in Rehoboth Beach.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, Nov. 21, at 11 a.m., at St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church in Lewes. Friends may call at the church from 10 to 11 a.m., prior to the service. Ralf W. Cochran,

Ralf W. Cochran, 81, of Millsboro and formerly of Georgetown, Ct., died Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2005, at Beebe Medical Center, Lewes. He was the director of personnel for the Gilbert and Bennett Manufacturing Company in Georgetown, Ct., retiring in 1991 after 25 years of service. Prior to that he was a co-pilot for RCA, flying their executive plane.
Mr. Cochran was a member of the East Norwalk Connecticut Yacht Club, past master of the Masonic Ark Lodge 39, A.F.&A.M. and a member of American Legion Post 28, Oak Orchard-Riverdale. His hobbies included collecting World War II airplanes and he was an avid golfer and yachtsman who held a private pilot’s license since 1945.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Edith Ross Cochran; two daughters, Gail Cochran DeFrancesco of Norwalk, Ct. and Randie Cochran Meyer of Amherst, N.H.; a brother, John M. Cochran of Easton, Pa.; a sister, Catherine Cochran Foster of Knoxville, Tenn.; two grandchildren, Amy Sue Eichberger and Nikolas Ralf Meyer; and two great-grandchildren, Raeanne Eichberger and Ayala Meyer.

Elizabeth “Betty” Chupek, 77, of Denton, Md., died Saturday, Nov. 12, 2005, in her home.
Mrs. Chupek was born in Central City, Pa., daughter of the late Michael Gardosik and Elizabeth Kocurek Gardosik. She had lived in Denton since 1967, coming from Silver Spring, Md. and later, Laurel.
She was a homemaker and spent a lifetime raising children. She liked to sew and loved her grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Chupek; a grandson, Donnie Nagel; and 10 brothers and sisters.

Chupek of Denton, Edward J. and Betsy Chupek of Cambridge, Md. and John S. and Sue Chupek of St. Michaels, Md.; 12 grandchildren, Brandi Townsend and her fiance, Brock Hutchison, Scott Townsend and his finance, Alex Russo, Stacey Schwartzkopf, Scott Schwartzkopf, Lisa Nagel and her partner Mindy Harding, David Chupek, Nicholas Chupek, Brian Chupek, Michael Chupek, Hank Chupek, Sienna Chupek, and Sequoia Chupek; two great-grandchildren, Ethan Nagel and Reilly Hutchison; and her caregivers at the Caroline Hospice Foundation.

Greta “Sissy” Kampmann Dolson, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Nov. 10, 2005, surrounded by her family.
Born in Wilmington, Mrs. Dolson was the daughter of the late William and Greta (Veasey) Kampmann.
She worked for MBNA for the past 12 years in various positions at many sites.
She is survived by her husband of 40 years, F. Bud Dolson; her daughter, Barbara Sullivan of Wilmington; and three grandchildren, Taylor, Morgan and Megan. Also surviving are her sisters, Barbara “Boots” Purdham of Wilmington, Helen McCallister of Lewes and Jean Janvier of Wilmington; and two brothers, William Kampmann of Wilmington and Dinny Kampmann of Millsboro.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 17, at Mealey Funeral Home, Limestone and Milltown Roads, Wilmington, where visitation will begin after 10 a.m. Interment will be in All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington.

Franklin Lloyd Cordrey, 67, of Lewes, died Friday, Nov. 11, 2005, at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes.
Mr. Cordrey was born Oct. 21, 1938, son of the late Walter and Audrey Cordrey.
He had been employed by the Department of Corrections in Georgetown, DE for 26 years, retiring from there in 1987. He then owned & operated Cordrey Cabinet and Welding Inc. in Angola, from 1988 until 2004. He was a master wood worker. Mr. Cordrey was a member of the CHEER Center and the Asbury United Methodist Church, both of Georgetown.
He was a veteran of the United States Air Force.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Katherine Lynn Cordrey.
Mr. Cordrey is survived by his wife Hazel (Johnson) Cordrey; two daughters, Tabatha Montgomery of Selbyville, and Crystal, address unknown; a stepdaughter, Lin Brown of Georgetown; an adopted son, Carl Day of Georgetown; two stepsons, Alton Edward Joseph of Harbeson and David Lee Joseph of Millsboro; and a grandson, Lane Montgomery, of Selbyville, In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter Katherine Lynn Cordrey.
Services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 16, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, with Rev. Marie Nordberg officiating. Friends may call from noon to 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Conley’s Chapel Cemetery, Angola.

William “Bill” Mawhinney,

William “Bill” Mawhinney, 93, of Dover, died Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2005, at Courtland Manor, Dover.
Mr. Mawhinney was a native of Pittsburgh, Pa. He served in World War II as a staff sergeant in the finance department of the Army Air Force. He was stationed in England for three years and was popular there because he resembled General Eisenhower. He had a great sense of humor. After the war, he worked at the Better Business Bureau in Washington, D.C.
He and his late wife enjoyed fishing and gardening. His hobbies included furniture refinishing and painting. He was a member of the Broadkill VFW Post in Milton.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Alice Skog Mawhinney and his older sister, Edith Dimling.
He is survived by his brother, Jack Mawhinney and his niece Georgia Longo of Pittsburgh; his sister, Ruth Frandon; his niece Marilyn and her husband Donald Taff and their son Greg of Walnut Creek, Calif.; and his cousins, Audrey and Robert Penney of Dover.
Bill will be greatly missed.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 16, in the chapel of the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Patriots Way, Millsboro.

Elizabeth M. Coverdale, 85, of Greenwood, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2005, in the home of her daughter and son-in-law in Milford, with whom she had resided for the past year.
Mrs. Coverdale was born Nov. 4, 1920, in Harbeson, daughter of the late John and Emma Jane Mitchell.
She was employed with the A.I. DuPont Co. from 1946 to 1947, and then, spent the next 57 years working alongside her late husband on the family farm in the Greenwood area. She also was a fulltime homemaker and mother.
Mrs. Coverdale loved flowers, gardening, cooking, canning her fresh vegetables and visiting with family and friends. She was a very loving and devoted mother and grandmother to her children and grandchildren, and a good friend to many. She will be missed dearly by all.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Nelson Coverdale; a beloved son, Dennis T. Mitchell; two brothers, Preston A. Mitchell and Lester Mitchell; and a sister, Doris Wynes.
She is survived by two daughters and two sons-in-law, Suzanne and Richard King of Milford, and Becky C. and Lonnie Weaver of Colorado Springs, Colo.; three sisters, Hazel Zimmerman of Milton, Bernice Rodgers of Waterford, Pa., and Gladys “Penny” Austin of Milford; a brother, John Mitchell Jr. of Harrington; and five grandchildren, Christina Tucker of Melbourne, Fla., Keith Passwaters of Greenwood, Brent Mitchell of Lincoln, and Shane Weaver and Lindsay Weaver, both of Colorado Springs; and a great-grandson, Trevor Mitchell.

Kathryn “Kitty” Clark Bloxom, 74 of Millsboro and formerly of Wilmington Manor, died on Monday, Nov. 7, 2005, at Christiana Hospital.
Born Jan. 29, 1931 in Wilmington, Mrs. Bloxom was a 1949 graduate of Conrad High School. She was employed as a bookkeeper for the former Park Distributing and later for Rollins Leasing, both in Wilmington.
More recently, she worked in sales for the former Bird Speakman Clothing Store in Rehoboth Beach. Before moving to Millsboro, Mrs. Bloxom had been a member of the ladies auxiliary of the Wilmington Manor Volunteer Fire Department for many years. She was a talented crafter and also enjoyed playing golf at Sussex Pines Country Club.
She is survived by her husband of more than 55 years, Graham K. Bloxom Sr.; a daughter, Patricia B. Dean and her husband, Robert L., of Fair Hill, Md.; a son, Graham K. Bloxom Jr. and his wife, Gail Ann Gadekar-Bloxom, of Newfoundland, Pa.; brother, William H. Clark of Dagsboro; three grandchildren, Liza M. Pope, Jennifer Lynn Syva and Megean E. Dean; and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Paul T. Clark Sr.

David W. Legates, 40, of Lewes, passed away Sunday, Nov. 13, 2005, at Beebe Medical Center.
David was born in Milford, the son of Carol Ann Brittingham LeGates of Milton and the late John W. LeGates.
David was a systems technician for Verizon and had been employed wit them for the past 17 years.
He was a graduate of Cape Henlopen High School Class of 1983 and Salisbury State University, Class of 1988, with a masters degree in business administration and a minor in psychology. While at Salisbury he played lacrosse and soccer.
David was a wonderful and loving father to his three children. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, archery and was a member of Ducks Unlimited.
Besides his father, he was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, William N. Sr. and Anna Wickowski LeGates; and an uncle, William N. LeGates Jr.
Besides his mother, he is survived by his best friend and love of his life, Terri Moran of Lewes; three children, Danielle Marie LeGates, Marissa Nicole LeGates and Derek Charles LeGates, all of Lewes; their mother, Regina Smith LeGates; his maternal grandparents, David S. and Anna Marie Pettyjohn Brittingham of Milton; two aunts, Norma Calloway and her husband, Joe, of Milton, and Elizabeth Pepper and her husband, Tom, of Georgetown; an uncle, Clem LeGates and his wife, Christie, of Milton; several cousins; nieces; a nephew; and a host of friends.

Norris William Musgrove, 81, of Lewes, died Monday, Nov. 14, 2005, at Harbor Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in Lewes.
Mr. Musgrove was born June 21, 1924 in Washington, D.C., the son of the late William Joseph and Julia Lynn English Musgrove.
Mr. Musgrove had worked as a janitorial supervisor at various medical centers. He was among the charter members of Viers Mill Baptist Church, Rockville, Md., and he was a member of the Colesville Baptist Church, Silver Spring, Md. He was devoted to his family and grandchildren. He enjoyed boating and fishing. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WW II.
He is survived by his wife, Blanche Ada Brunner Musgrove; his daughter, Noreen B. Koehler and her husband Paul of Lewes; five grandchildren, Melinda Moser and her husband Henry; Kenneth Koehler and his wife Nancy; Kathleen Kidd and her husband Steve; Jennifer Price and her husband Jason; and Edward Musgrove; eight great-grandchildren, David, Gannon, Billye Jo, Tiffani, Montana, Justin, Little Eddie and Jonthan.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Norris “Bill” Musgrove Jr.; his daughter Rebecca Lynn Musgrove; and a great-granddaughter, Amber.

John Louis Bitzer, 69, of Lewes, passed away suddenly Monday, Nov. 7, 2005, at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes.
He was born April 14, 1936 in Reading, Pa., son of the late Gottlob and Lillian M. (Rettberg) Bitzer.
Mr. Bitzer was a graduate of Wilson High School, West Lawn, Pa.. He entered the U.S. Air Force directly after high school and served a four-year tour of duty as a Medic in both Korea and Japan. After an honorable discharge he became a student at Roanoke College in Salem, Va. where he graduated in l962.
After college he went to work for RCA in Lancaster, Pa.. He then accepted a purchasing assignment with Kerr Glass in Lancaster, then he transferred to Keyport, N.J. and then transferred back to Lancaster where he lived and worked for l9 years. He accepted a position with Baker Refractory in York, Pa., where he worked for l5 years as a Capital Equipment Buyer before retiring.
John was a member of the Lutheran Church of Our Savior, Rehoboth Beach. John was a wonderful asset to the church and used his talents on so many projects to enhance the life of the church. He was also a volunteer two mornings a week at the New Life Thrift Store and it was a job he loved and looked forward to with much enthusiasm.
John was affectionately known as “The Mayor of Pilottown” as he loved visiting with his friends and neighbors and being of service to them. Any project that someone had John was right there to pitch in and help.
John was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose 646 Lewes/Rehoboth, American Legion Post 28 Oak Orchard and the Cape Henlopen Elks 2540. He was a faithful member of the Thursday Morning Pilottown Grumpy Old Men’s Breakfast Club.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-daughter, Vicki Weirich Richardson.
He is survived by his wife Susan Sheafer Bitzer; his daughter, Vickie Lynn Bitzer Philpot of Red Bank, N.J.; two brothers, Otto R. Bitzer and wife Charlotte of Limerick, Pa. and Fred P. Bitzer and wife Cara of Lewes; grandchildren, Kristen and Gary Philpot; step-son Richard Weirich and wife Patti of Neffsville, Pa.; and step-grandchildren Josh, Amanda and Paige Weirich of Neffsville.

Anna M. Johnson, 65, of Frankford and formerly of Washington, D.C. and North Dakota, died peacefully surrounded by her loving family Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2005, at her home.
Mrs. Johnson was born Feb. 15, 1941, in Center, N.D. to Phillip and Veronica Emineth Heinz. She worked as a secretary for Beebe Medical Center in Lewes, was a buyer for Peebles Department Store and worked for JSI.
Mrs. Johnson was a member of Mariner’s Bethel United Methodist Church in Ocean view and loved gardening and reading her Bible.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, William; a son, Curtis, and his wife, Cathy Johnson; two daughters, Kim Waldvogel and her husband, Perry, and Mary Serpe and her husband, Angelo; a brother, Bill, and his wife, Shelia; five sisters, Dottie and her husband Roger, Phyliss and her husband, Harland, Chris and her husband, Neil, Jackie and her husband, Derwin, and Karen; and four grandchildren, CJ, Randy, Joey and Little Serpe.

Thelma Conner Price, 85, of Lewes, died Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2005, at her residence.
She was born Nov. 15, 1919 in Townsend, daughter of the late J. Douglas and Ruby (Webber) Conner.
Mrs. Price graduated from Lewes High School in 1937. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Timothy F. Price in 2001 and by her sister Audrey Conner Rose.
She is survived by three daughters, Beverly A. Porter and her husband Herschel of Lewes, Donna Groneman and her husband Greg of Dallas, Texas, and Judith Price of New York, N.Y.; a son, Timothy Price and his wife Shirley of Georgetown; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Doug Conner of Houston, Texas.

A. Ross Adams, 81, of Rehoboth Beach, died Sunday, November 6, 2005 at his residence. Prior to relocating to Rehoboth Beach last year, Mr. Adams and his wife resided for 20 years in Pipers Landing, Palm City, Fla.
Mr. Adams was born Feb. 29, 1924 in Martha’s Vineyard, Mass. son of the late Elliot and Bessie (Smith) Adams.
Mr. Adams was a graduate of Harvard University and held a Ph.D in chemistry from the University of Delaware. He was employed as the General Manager of Air Products Corporation, Plastics Division, Allentown, Pa., before retiring in 1985. He was an avid golfer, history buff, enjoyed playing bridge and using his computer.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Bradford Adams in 2001.
He is survived his wife of 21 years, Virginia (Patterson) Adams; his son Maurice Adams and his wife Phyllis and their two children, Sarah and Marguerite, all of Baltimore, Md.; and a sister, Helen Hatch of Venice, Fla.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, Nov. 11, at All Saints Cemetery near Angola. Father Max Wolf will be officiating.

John “Jack” W. Wooters, 71, passed away Thursday, Nov. 3, 2005 at Beebe Medical Center, Lewes.
Mr. Wooters was born in Blade on Jan. 2, 1934. He served in the U. S. Army from 1956 to 1962. He was stationed at Ft. Gordon, Ga. and then served at the Savannah River Defense Area in Barnwell, S.C. John held the position of a SP5 in Battery C Artillery Battalion. After his service duty, he worked as a carpenter for 38 years. He loved building and refinishing furniture, watching and caring for birds, sports and gardening.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Catherine Wooters, three brothers and two sisters.
He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Gladys King Wooters of Georgetown; a daughter Stefanie Wooters also of Georgetown; one sister Delores Barbin of Saco, Maine; one sister-in-law, Esther Willey of Redden; and several nieces and nephews.

GraceMarie was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Georgetown, and was a “Stone Believer in Christ.”
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon W. Baer, in January 2005.
She is survived by three sons, the Rev. Clarence “Doc” T. Beale, Dr. Harry A. Beale and Darwin J. Beale; a daughter, Sally Wilkus; a sister, Hazel Dixon; 11 grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.

She was a talented homemaker who enjoyed sewing and ws known throughout the community for her baked goods. She was the former co-owner and operator of the Clayton Theatre and Cut-Rate, along with her husband, and sister, Marion and her husband Pete Hancock, for 25 years. Marjorie was a very active member of the Bethel United Methodist church, where she served various committees and the church choir until her illness.
She was predeceased by her parents, Ebe and Blanche Wharton Chandler; and sister, Marion C. Hancock.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Alvin A. “Skeet” Campbell; two daughters and sons-in-law, Joanne and Charles Bireley of Dagsboro, and Lucinda and Terry Hearn of Dagsboro; three grandchildren, Charles “Chuck”; Bireley of Bethany Beach, Christopher Bireley of Fenwick Island and Jennifer Evans Spinks of Hedgesville, W.Va.; three great-grandchildren; and nieces Jane H. William Murphy “Bill” “Reds” McKee, 70, of Wilmington and Lewes, passed away peacefully at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes, Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2005.
The son of the late Andrew and Evelyn Murphy McKee, he was born in Barnesboro, Pa. and graduated from Conrad High School where he played football and baseball and earned a position on the All-State Football Team. During the Korean Conflict he served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a member of Sheet Metal Workers Local 19,formerly Local 59. He was a member of a scuba diving club, enjoyed boating, snow skiing and Lewes Beach.
His wife, Doris Kraus McKee, died in 1973.
Bill was a fun-loving, kind and generous person who loved people and life. He enjoyed spending time with his family and will be dearly missed by his daughters, Karen Kern McDowell and her husband, Ronald E., of Wilmington, and Elaine M. Bristowe and her husband, Kevin D., of Lewes.

Patricia Ann Hill Lynam, 62, of Clarksville, died Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2005, at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes.
Mrs. Lynam was born April 28, 1943 in Wilmington, to the late Edgar Layton Hill and Rosalie Emma Brohawn Hill of Lewes.
Mrs. Lynam was a 1960 graduate of P.S. DuPont High School in Wilmington. She also attended the University of Delaware for one year.
Mrs. Lynam had worked as an Executive Secretary for Ames-Ennis of Towson, Md. prior to owning and operating the Nice & Easy Toning and Tanning Salon in Bethany Beach, in the mid 1980s.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband Edward William Lynam Jr.; a sister, Betsy Bailey; a niece, Ashley Crispin; a grandniece Corinne Crispin; and two grandnephews, Gabe Crispin and Cameron Crispin, all of Lewes.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, Nov. 15, 11 a.m., at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Clarksville Chapel, Rts. 26 & 17, Clarksville. Jeannie Flemming of St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Bethany Beach, will officiate.

Shirley Ball Newcomer, 75, of Milton, died Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2005, at Harbor Healthcare in Lewes.
She was born in Roanoke, Va., the daughter of the late Ernest and Roxie Sink Snap. She was a waitress and also worked at Ames in Millsboro for six years.
She was a custodian for Bethel Baptist Church near Claymont of which she was a member and attended Calvary Baptist Church in Georgetown.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Linda Hunter; a son, Barry Ball; four sisters, Mary Weaver, Juanita Hodges, Janice Thrash and Jean Hodges; and a grandson, Wallace Hunter.
She is survived by her husband, Clyde Newcomer; a son, James Ball and his wife, Faith, of Grants Pass, Ore; two daughters, Connie Boheler of Morristown, Tenn. and Barbara Baker and her husband, William, of Gumboro; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, Nov. 14, in the chapel of Delaware Veterans Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro.

Arthur Halverson Keys, 80, of Millsboro, died Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2005 at his residence.
He was born Jan. 24, 1925 in Long Beach, Calif. to the late Ivan Claude Keys Sr. and the late Julia Splittstoesser Keys.
Mr. Keys graduated from the New London Maritime Academy, New London, Ct. in 1945. He enjoyed a 46-year career with the U.S. Merchant Marines.
He served on many convoys during World War II and was the chief engineer for 33 years with Farrel Lines, U.S. Lines. He also worked for the “City of Hope,” the hospital ship, for 14 months on the West Africa Coast.
He is survived by his wife Delpha Bostock Keys, Ed.D.; one daughter, Susan A. Keys, Ph.D. of Springfield, Mass.; and one brother, Ivan C. Keys of Fall River Mills, Calif.

John Townsend Tubbs,

J. Townsend Tubbs, of Rehoboth Beach, died Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2005, in Lewes following a heart attack.
A life-long resident of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware and part-time resident of Bethesda, Md., “Townie” Tubbs was the son of the late J. Asbury Tubbs and Edith Townsend Tubbs, and the grandson of the late John G. Townsend, Governor and U.S. Senator from Delaware.
Born Feb. 2, 1918 in Selbyville, Mr. Tubbs attended Culver Military Academy, Lawrenceville School and Yale University. He was an officer in the U.S. Navy during World War II, serving in the Atlantic.
After military service, Mr. Tubbs joined his father and brother, Bill, in the family lumber and construction business, Selbyville Manufacturing Company, eventually becoming president until the business was sold in the early 1980s. He also served on the board of directors of Baltimore Trust, which later merged with Mercantile Bank, and became Chairman of the Board. After retiring from the Board in 1993, he became a licensed agent with Jack Lingo Inc. in Rehoboth.
Mr. Tubbs also served on the boards of the Rehoboth Art League and Rehoboth Beach Country Club. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing and was a frequent traveler.
His first wife, Marjorie (Teddy) Chapman Tubbs, died in 1966. His second wife, Jean Wire Tubbs, died in 1990.
He is survived by a son, John Townsend Tubbs Jr. of Bozeman, Mont.; four stepchildren, Marilyn Layton of Lewes, William C. Murphy of Washington, Michele Newman of Bethesda and Melinda Deay of Malvern, and seven grandchildren.
A memorial service was held at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes.

Betty Ann Mumford, 73, of Millsboro, died Saturday, Nov. 5, 2005, at Beebe Medical Center, Lewes.
Betty was the daughter of the late Leroy and Mabel Truitt Webb. She worked at several restaurants, including Mumford’s Store, and helped her husband on their farm. However, she really enjoyed doing things for other people, including baking her famous apple cakes and fudge.
Betty was a loving and caring person who will be missed by her family and friends.
Betty was preceded in death by her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Harold and Myrtle Mumford; and a son-in-law, Bruce Bunting.
She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Marshall Mumford; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Gary Brittingham of Millsboro; a daughter and son-in-law, Marsha and Richard Jenney of Millsboro; a grandson and his wife, Jonathan and Laura Brittingham of Bethany Beach; and a grandson, Brooks Jenney; and granddaughter, Megan Jenney of Dagsboro.
She is also survived by a sister, Grace Wilkerson of Seaford; a sister and brother-in-law, Doris and Carl Niblett of Georgetown; a sister and brother-in-law, Pat and Charles Holston of Georgetown; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Darlene And Wayne Cropper of Dagsboro; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 9, at Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington St., Millsboro, where friends may call at 11 a.m. The Rev. Bob Hudson will officiate.
Burial will be in Millsboro Cemetery.

Mary Louise Greene Morgan, 79, of Millsboro, died Friday, Nov. 4, 2005 at Harbor Healthcare & Rehab Center, Lewes.
She was born March 9, 1926 in Dover, daughter of the late James and Beatrice Hoover Greene.
Mrs. Morgan had worked as a secretary for a local bank. She loved bowling with the bank league and tending to the flowers in her garden. She also enjoyed going to the Outer Banks in North Carolina. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who was greatly loved and will be sadly missed. She will always be remembered.
She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Joseph Morgan; one daughter, Kathleen Hebler and her husband Joe of Midlothian, Va.; five sons: James Morgan and his wife Lynn of Delmar, Md., Joseph Morgan Jr. of Tennessee, Richard Morgan of Dagsboro, Gerald Morgan of Millsboro, and Michael Morgan of Millsboro; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three sisters: Helen Klenoski of Dover, Betty Weeks of Camden, Ruth Gac of San Juan Capistrano, Calif.; and two brothers: Buddy Greene and Joseph Greene, both of Dover.

Ruth M. Griffith, 93, of Ft Lauderdale, Fla., formerly of Wilmington, went to be with the Lord in the church triumphant Thursday, Oct. 27, 2005.
She was born Nov. 15, 1909 in Wilmington. Ruth was a lifelong active member and ordained deacon of Hanover Presbyterian Church, where she started the church nursery in 1930. She sang in the choir for many years and was loved by many.
She will be missed, especially by her son, C. Richard, and his wife, Patricia; along with two nieces, who were faithful caregivers while Ruth was in Wilmington.
She was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Cornwell Jennings Griffith, Aug. 16, 1992; and sons, C. Jay, Dec, 28, 1994 and R. Edmund on June 16, 1988. Besides her beloved son, C. Richard, and his wife, Patricia, of Ft Lauderdale, and his daughter, Kelly Shirer of Toledo, Oh., Ruth is survived by daughter-in-law, Helen Griffith of Centreville, Ind.; nieces, Joyce Shevchuck of Wilmington and Pauline Margargal of Lewes; 10 grandchildren; and many great grandchildren and friends.
A memorial service celebrating Ruth’s life will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, November 8, at Hanover Presbyterian Church, 18th Street and Baynard Blvd., Wilmington, where family and friends may visit 1 hour prior. Interment will follow in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bear.

S. Ray Griffith, 71, of Ellendale, passed away Friday, Nov. 4, 2005, at his home.
He was a body shop relief man for General Motors, retiring in 1982 after 30 years. Ray was a member of the UAW Local #435 in Wilmington and the Moose Lodge #646-Lewes/Rehoboth. He was an avid fisherman.
Ray is survived by his wife, Betty Griffith; his children, Edward Griffith of Marcus Hook, Pa., Donna Fell of Wilmington, and Yavonne McGhee of New Castle; his brother, Stanley Griffith of Lewes; four stepchildren, Loretta Dillmore of Ellendale, Noble F. Poore Jr., of Dover, Lisa L. Poore and Robert M. Poore, both of Smyrna; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; 11 stepgrandchildren; and four step great-grandchildren.
He was preceded by his first wife, Anna Mae Griffith; his second wife, Mary Griffith; and his daughter, Lois Buckman.

Carolyn Lanford Burleigh, 81 of Wilmington, died Saturday, Nov. 5, 2005, at home.
She was a 1944 graduate of Limestone College in Gaffney, S.C., earning her B.S. in chemistry. She was a chemist for Standard Oil in New Jersey and was also a homemaker. Her hobbies included investments and stocks, floral arrangements and centerpiece decorations. She served on the PTA of the American School in Japan from 1965-1970 and was a volunteer for the Red Cross of Japan from 1968-1970.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Whiteman Burleigh.
She is survived by her daughters, June Burleigh of Blue Bell, Pa. and her husband, Bob Braton, Barbara Burleigh of Newark, and her husband, Robert Rodriguez, Jeanie Robino of Rehoboth Beach, and her husband, Paul Robino and Betty Burleigh of Bear, and her husband, Trevor Mees; one brother, Grover Jefferson Lanford of Woodruff, S.C.; one sister, Mary Hughes Collins of Laurens, S.C.; her grandchildren, Philip Robino of Rehoboth Beach, Caroline Robino of Boca Raton, Fla. and Emi Burleigh of Newark; and several nieces and nephews from South Carolina and Georgia.

Geneva R. Willey, 91, of Milton passed away Saturday, Nov. 5, 2005, in the Harbor Healthcare Center, Lewes, her residence for the past five weeks.
She was born July 4, 1914, in Blades, daughter of the late Henry and Sadie Steel Venables.
In her younger years, Mrs. Willey was employed in several Milton-area manufacturing positions. As a loving wife, mother and grandmother, she retired to care for her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Alton Willey in 1994; three brothers, William B. Venables, Otto Venables and Henry Venables; a sister, Isabelle Venables Wilkerson; and a grandson, Robert J. “Capt. Bob” Willey.
She is survived by a son and a daughter-in-law, with whom she had lived for many years, Robert A. “Bob” and Kay Willey of Milton; two grandchildren and their spouses, Debra and Carl Anderson and Stephen P. and Dawn Willey, all of Milton; four great-grandchildren, Christopher Willey, Laura Brittingham and her husband, Kyle, Trenton Willey and Paige Wright, all of Milton; three great-great-grandchildren, Sydney Montgomery, Sadie Brittingham and Ticen Willey, all of Milton; a granddaughter-in-law, Kathy Willey of Milton; and her closest friend, Glennie Lee Messick of Milton.

Adele F. Jester, 94, of Rehoboth Beach, died Saturday, Oct. 29, at Beebe Medical Center, Lewes.
Mrs. Jester was a sales clerk for Joan Roberts for 23 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lea F. Jester, and two grandsons.
She is survived by a son, Allan L. Jester and his wife, Patricia, with whom she lived; and five grandchildren.

Richard P. “Dick” Jolliff,

Richard P. “Dick” Jolliff, 79, of Millsboro, died Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2005, at Christiana Hospital, Newark.
Mr. Jolliff was born in Manteo, N.C., and had lived in Chester, Pa. and Wilmington. He was a longtime employee of the DuPont Company’s Edgemoor plant, where he was a control room operator. He was a past member of the DuPont Country Club and was an avid golfer. He was known to always travel with his furry companion, Rebel.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Mary White Jolliff; two sons, Richard P. Jolliff Jr. and Thomas C. Fagust Jr.; and 11 siblings.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Jane L. Paulley Jolliff; six children, Irma Jean Jolliff of Greensboro, N.C., Mary Ann Nelson of Nags Head, N.C., Eugene Fagust of Marcus Hook, Pa., Cindy Young of Media, Pa., Jackie Jolliff of Aston, Pa. and Lisa Boulden of Lewes; and five grandchildren.
