James M. ‘Jess’ Willard,
Dewey home owner
James M. “Jess” Willard, 72, loving husband and father, died peacefully, surrounded by his family, Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2006, at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Md., due to complications following pancreatic cancer surgery.
He was the husband of Midge Willard, with whom he shared 29 years of marriage.
Born May 9, 1934 in Mansfield, Oh., he was the son of the late James A. and Harriett Hale Willard.
Jess graduated magna cum laude with a degree in mechanical engineering from the Case Institute of Technology in Cleveland, Oh. and went to work for the DuPont Company in 1956. In 1968 he moved to Wilmington, and worked at DuPont’s Experimental Station and Chestnut Run.
In 1983, Jess and his family moved to Kennett Square, Pa. and owned a second home in Dewey Beach, where they have spent the summer for many years. In 2002, they moved to Siesta Key, Fla., which is their current residence. Jess remained actively involved in each community.
Jess had many wonderful friends whom he cherished. He was also an avid golfer, loved traveling with his family, being at the beach, and caring for the many animals that wandered in and out of his home over the years.
In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by five loving children, Jean Ann W. Guliano of East Greenwich, R.I.; James R. “Jim” Willard of Wilmington; Carl W. Thompson IV and his wife Jennifer Thompson of Madison, Conn.; Kristin K. Jankowski, VMD and her husband Art Jankowski, VMD of Newark; and Rick Willard of Siesta Key; and by seven grandchildren, Neil A. Guliano, Jack R. Thompson, James W. Guliano, Eric A. Jankowski, Julie K. Thompson, Mark J. Jankowski and Chloe G. Thompson.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 30, at Bethany Presbyterian Church, Rt. 52 in Mendenhall, Pa. Interment will follow at Union Hill Cemetery in Kennett Square.

Mildred B. “Millie D” Holloman, 102, of Belltown died peacefully Sunday, Sept. 24, 2006, surrounded by her family in the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Charles Bowden, Dover.
Mrs. Holloman was born Sept. 1, 1904, in Belltown, daughter of the late Thomas and Lydia Ward.
She worked as a babysitter, cook, housemaid, caterer and laundress for many years.
Mrs. Holloman enjoyed singing, cooking, shopping, traveling, dressing sharp and spending quality time with her children.
Her home was always open to friends and they could look forward to a good meal and a good time.
Mrs. Holloman was an active member of John Wesley Church, Belltown. She was known as the mother of the church because she was the oldest member. Her greatest joy was serving her church in any capacity, including doing fundraisers, singing in two choirs, attending Bible study, serving as a member of the women’s society and the usher board, and going to choir joy nights and church camps.
She attended Mount Zion A.M.E. Church, Dover, after moving in with her daughter, and acquired many friends and extended family.
Mrs. Holloman was loved by many people.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Holloman Sr.; two sons, William Holloman Jr. and Robert Holloman; a grandson, Charles Bowden Jr.; her companion, Caleb Paynter; three sisters; nine brothers; and several nieces and nephews, including most recently Linford Ward, Delores Johnson and Edna Brittingham.
She is survived by a daughter and a son-in-law, Mary H. and Charles C. Bowden Sr. of Dover; a son and his companion, Parcell E. Holloman and Ernestine Brittingham of Woodside; eight grandsons, Dr. Reginald Bowden, and his wife, Dr. Nicole Bowden, of Apopka, Fla., Michael Bowden of Dover, Robert Polk of Wilmington, Parcell Ciriwithian of Augusta, Ga., Tommy Hughes, Billy “BJ” Holloman and Dwayne “DJ” Holloman, all of Lewes and Lance Holloman of Newport News, Va.; three granddaughters, Marcell “Poochie” Jefferson of Milton and Sharon Farlow and Monique “Nicci” Milbourne, both of Dover; three great-granddaughters, Eisha Holloman of Milton, Teayra Bowden of Wilmington and Maaliyah Bowden of Apopka; an adopted great-grandson, Jamal Williams of Wilmington; four adopted daughters, Retha W. Organ, Mary W. Hutchins and Sandra Steele, all of Dover and Brenda Milbourne of Rehoboth Beach; an adopted granddaughter, Nicole Wideman of Wilmington; two adopted sons, Herman Paynter of Lewes and Elder Michael Williams of Dover; a niece, the Rev. Grace W. Boyer of Wilmington; three nephews, Rudolf Ward and Edward F. Salters, both of Wilmington and Robert Miller and his wife, Kuline, of Lewes; and a host of special neighbors, very close cousins and numerous friends.
Memorial services will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, Sept. 29, in Calvary Baptist Church, Queen Street, Dover.
Services will be noon, Saturday, Sept. 30, in John Wesley Church, Belltown, where friends may call two hours earlier. The Pastor Thomas Johnson will officiate.
Burial will be in Christ Church Cemetery, Harbeson.

Clarence Demby, 57, of Lewes died Sunday, Sept. 24, 2006, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes.
Mr. Demby was born Aug. 25, 1949, in Easton, Md., son of the late John and Rosie Demby.
He grew up in Dover and attended Dover High School.
Mr. Demby was inducted into the U.S. Army on Oct. 2, 1969, and served with the 315th Supply and Service Co. He also served as a member of the Delaware Army Reserve, retiring in 1993.
He was employed with the Cape Henlopen School District for 23 years before retiring in 1995. He was also employed by Superfresh in Rehoboth Beach at the time of his death.
Mr. Demby had a great love and devotion for his family.
He is survived by his wife whom he married June 23, 1973, Teresa B. Morris Demby; a sister, Helen Loper of Felton; a brother, Lewis Demby; three-sisters-in-law and their husbands, Jacalyn and Anthony Streett of Lewes, Lorna Harmon of Lewes and the Rev. Annie and James Custis; three brothers-in-law and their wives, Dr. Marvin and MaryAnn Morris of Millsboro, Lloyd and Laura Morris and, Keith Morris, all of Lewes; and a host of loving relatives and friends.
Services were held in Harmony Methodist Church, Millsboro. Burial was in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro.

Don Wayne Johnson, 56, of Milton, died Saturday, Sept. 24, 2006, at home.
Mr. Johnson was born Nov. 8, 1949, the son of George H. Johnson of Chestertown, Md. and the late Thelma “Sugar” Johnson.
He was raised in Chestertown and was a 1967 graduate of Chestertown High School. He moved to Washington, D.C. and attended the University of Maryland and George Washington University, where he studied business and agriculture. While living there he worked for Blue Cross/Blue Shield and John Mandis Restaurant. He moved to Delaware/Pennsylvania working as a manager for Draper/King Cole, Hanover Foods and Island Farms before retiring.
Along with his mother, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Mary Blyman Johnson.
He is survived by his daughter, Heather P. Johnson of Annapolis, Md.; four stepbrothers, James, William, Mark and David Blyman, all of Worton, Md.; and a stepsister, Sheila Dlugoborski of Lynch, Md. He was previously married to Nancy Rose, formerly of Chestertown.
A memorial service was held in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, with burial in Cambridge, Md.

Clark E. Jacobs, 67, of Long Neck and formerly of Newark, passed away peacefully at home Sunday, Sept. 24, 2006, after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was the son of the late Joseph and Grace Jacobs and graduated from Media High School in 1957. He served in the U.S. Army and was assigned to the Defensive Atomic Security Agency School and graduated from the South Eastern Signal Corps School.
He was an active member of American Legion Post 28, Oak Orchard/Riverdale. His special interests and hobbies included military and war history, car restorations, model boats and car racing. He was a dedicated Philadelphia Eagles and Penn State football fan. A loving husband and father, Clark especially enjoyed spending time with his four precious grandchildren, James, Morgan, Reagan and Mason.
He was predeceased by his two sisters, Gladys Smith and brother-in-law, Edwin G. Smith, and Virginia Biddle and brother-in-law, Joseph Biddle.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 44 years, Judy; two daughters, Tracey Inglee of Mount Bethel, Pal. and Carrie Norona and her husband Eric of North East, Md.; his grandchildren; and three nephews.

Mary Elizabeth Jerman Bush, 82, of Lewes, died Sunday, Sept. 24, 2006, at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes.
Mrs. Bush was born in Milton, March 16, 1924. She was the daughter of the late Thomas Elva Jerman and Matilda MegeeJerman.
She was a homemaker. In her younger years enjoyed singing and dancing.
Mrs. Bush is survived by her husband of 60 years, Leroy O. Bush; three daughters, Mary Megee of Kentucky; Shirley Bradley of Miltonand Peggy Carmine of Lewes; two sons, Chester Bush of Angola, and Jeff Bush of Lewes; two sisters, Clara Scarborough of Milford, and Elsie Bounds of California; two brothers, Raymond Jarman of California and Thomas Jerman of Dagsboro; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Lisa Bush; and a son, Raymond Bush.
Funeral services will be held Saturday Sept. 30, at 10 a.m. at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, with Pastor Randy Booth officiating.
A viewing will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. prior to the services. Interment will be at Henlopen Memorial Park, Highway One, Milton.

William J. Link, 89. died at his home in Lewes, Saturday, Sept. 23, 2006.
Mr. Link was born in Philadelphia, Pa., only child of William Everett Link formerly of Washington, D.C., and Mary Margaret Mae Luttrell Link Bateman, formerly of Ireland and Philadelphia. He was beloved by grandparents Ellen M. and James Shields of Philadelphia and stepfather David Bateman of Cape May, N.J.
He was a member of St. Agnes Parish in Philadelphia, where he was baptized and completed elementary school. He graduated from Shaw Junior High School and West Philadelphia High School. He was previously employed at General Electric as a machinist.
During the World War II, he was accepted into the submarine service, but the war effort required him to continue building submarines at Cramp’s Ship Yard including the Escolar. He also worked at Brills and Budd Corporation, and was employed by Atlantic Refining (ARCO) for 33 years before retiring to Bechtelsville, PA in July 1981 and to Lewes in 1988.
He had a great love of all animals, especially dogs, horses and birds. He raised parakeets for many years. He was a humanitarian and good Samaritan to his many friends and neighbors. He was active in Cub Scouts and CYO football at Most Blessed Sacrament Parish and the Boy Scouts in Philadelphia. He participated in Archbishop Prendergast High School Variety Show fundraisers. He was also a member of Annunciation B.V.M. Parish in Havertown, Pa., and Most Blessed Sacrament Parish in Bally, Pa., as well as a member of the choir. At the time of his death, he was a member of St. Jude the Apostle Church in Lewes. He participated in the Meals-On-Wheels Program, Lewes.
In addition to his parents, and wife, Anna, who died July 14, 2006, he was preceded in death by three children, Baby Joseph Link, Baby David Link and Brian Patrick Link.
He is survived by 11 children, William Link, Philadelphia; Patricia Canby, Lewes; Dennis Link, Lansdale, Pa.; Judith Salvatore, Milton; Joseph J. Link, Townbank, N.J.; Gerard Link, Lititz, Pa.; Maryellen Fullmer, Lewes, DE; Loretta Link Esterly, Boyertown, PA & Lewes, DE; Raymond J. Elizabeth Maury Valentine, 56, formerly of Richmond, Va. and Rehoboth Beach, died unexpectedly Sunday, Sept. 17, 2006 at her home in Live Oak, Fla.
She was the daughter of the late Granville Gray Valentine Jr. and Elizabeth Maury Valentine.
She is survived by her mother, Frances B. Valentine; brothers, Granville G. Valentine III and Thomas B. Valentine; a sister, Frances Valentine Massey; and eight nieces and nephews, all of Richmond. Betsy had a lifelong love of horses and was an avid rider.
Her offbeat sense of humor, wit and creativity will be missed by all.

Elizabeth A. Hopkins, 74, of Millsboro, died Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2006, at home.
Elizabeth retired from Campbell Soup. Mrs. Hopkins was a member of the Jehovahs Witness Church in Dagsboro. She enjoyed cooking, flowers, shopping, and traveling. She was a loving mother, grandmother sister and friend. She was one of Gods gifts to this world.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Wesley and Margaret Dennis Johnson; her husband, Alton Hopkins, who died in 1996; and her son, Eltan Dennis.

Henry Capuozzo, 82, of Rehoboth Beach, died Friday, Sept. 22, 2006, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, Md.
Mr. Capuozzo was born Aug. 25, 1924, in Brooklyn, N.Y. He was the youngest and the last of 11 children. He had been employed as a corporate executive at International Insurance Adjustors in New York for many years, before moving to Delaware one year ago.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Mr. Capuozzo is survived by his partner, James C. O’Dell of Rehoboth Beach ; a sister-in-law Anne Capuozzo of Garfield, N.J., and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Curry was born April 18, 1941, in Wilmington. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Curry had been a member of the Brandywine Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary for many years and was an honorary member of both the Claymont and Rehoboth Beach Fire Company Auxiliaries. She was a homemaker and enjoyed making crafts.
She is survived by her husband of 36 years, David E. Curry; a daughter, Vicki Lynn Bradley of Rehoboth Beach; a son, David E. Curry Jr. and wife Tracey of Ediestone, Pa.; two sisters and brothers-in-law: Eileen Doyle and husband Ted and Mary Crow and husband Herb, all of Rehoboth Beach; and four grandchildren.

James Clarence Hilyard Jr., 78 of Georgetown, died Thursday September 21, 2006, at the Seaford Center, Seaford.
Mr. Hilyard was a World War II Army veteran and also served as an Allied Guard at the Nuremburg War Crimes Trial. He had been a plumber and pipe fitter, and welder for the Local 690 pipe fighters Union.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, James Clarence Sr. and Mary Hilyard; a brother, Jack Hilyard; a son, Gerald Hilyard; and his sisters, Veronica, Margarite, Marion and Regina.
He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Deborah Ryan Hilyard; a son, James C. Hilyard III; and his sisters, Kathryn Bradley of Williamstown, N.J.; Ann Nancy Laird of Drexel Hill, Pa.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 27, at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro.

Mr. Haney was a handyman and worked until he had to retire on disability.
He is survived by his parents, Joseph Wayne and Carol S. Robert E. “Bob” Moore, 78, of Bear and formerly of Lewes, passed away peacefully on Tuesday Sept. 19, 2006 with his loving family at his side.
Bob was born in Wilmington, the son of the late Joseph T. and Elsie Moore, lived the majority of his life in Cranston Heights, upon retirement he moved to Lewes for 10 years, and had made Bear his home for the past year with his daughter Nora and her family.
Bob served his country proudly as a member of the US Army during The Korean Conflict. Bob was a talented auto mechanic and transmission specialist, working at various auto dealerships during his working years. Bob was a family man who loved and cared for his family and was especially close to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and their pet dogs Chloe and Chopper. Bob will be sadly missed by his daughters, Nora J. Collins and her husband Frank of Bear and Gwendolyn R. Moore and her fiancée Dean Robertson of Laurel, grandchildren Steven B. Loughren Jr. and his wife Alicia, Frank J. Drejka, Frank M. Collins, Jr. and Dana M. Collins; and great-grandchildren Steven B. Loughren, III and Ashlyn J. Loughren. Bob was preceded in death by his grandson Adam R. Collins in 1997, and his brothers Joseph T. Moore, Jr. and Willard A. Moore.
A Life Celebration was held at Beeson Funeral Home, Newark, with interment in Silverbrook Cemetery, Wilmington.

Charles Albert “Chuck” Smith, 75, of Crownsville, Md. and Millsboro, passed away Thursday, Sept. 21, 2006, after a nine-month battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family, at Beebe Medical Center, Lewes.
Mr. Smith was born Jan. 21, 1931 in Baltimore, Md., son of the late Charles and Cora Lee Trawick Smith.
He was a truck driver, retiring from Montgomery Ward in 1989. He worked at various trucking companies until finally retiring in 2003 from Storm Water Management.
Chuck is survived by his wife of 45 years, Kathleen Alta Raap “Kas” Smith; five children, Thomas Carper “Sonny” of Ft. Myers, Fla., James Franklin “Jimmy” of Mobile, Ala., William Charles “Bill” Smith of Mobile, Ala., Patti Jean Brubaker-Norris of Mobile, Ala. and Alta Marie Smith of Crownsville, Md. and Millsboro; three grandchildren, Destiny Harris of Mobile, Ala., Nicholas Brubaker of Mobile and Minnie Alta Bella Smith of Millsboro; three great-grandchildren, Brandon Harris, Whitney Harris and Bradford Harris, all of Mobile.
A memorial service was held at Conley’s Chapel United Methodist Church, Angola.

Elaine Rhoades Holleufer, 76, died peacefully at home Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2006, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Quakertown, Pa., and resided in Lewes, where she grew up and then retired, after living in Rochester, N.Y., for nearly 20 years.
Elaine faced her passing days with power, energy, and purpose. These attributes were the foundations of her highly inspired, creative, and joyful approach to life. She applied her passion for living along the Delaware shore in all of her creative endeavors, which included painting, gardening, traveling, music, visiting galleries, dining, family gatherings, and especially anything involving the local seafood. As an artist, Elaine viewed the world for its beauty, color, texture, and patterns. She was known among her friends and family for her portraitures and still-life paintings. After attending Lewes High School, she was offered a scholarship to an art school because of her artistic talents. Elaine is predeceased by her husband of 44 years, Donald Martin Holleufer, her parents, Mary and Arthur Rhoades; her brother Arthur Rhoades; and her nephew Donald Larby.
She is survived by her daughters, Donna Harman and her husband Thomas of Rochester, N.Y.; Robin LaMarti and her husband Ronald of Macedon, N.Y.; and Anita Marie Holleufer of Lewes, She is also survived by her brother, Ralph Rhoades and his wife Helma; her brother Charles Merz; and her sister Patricia Larby. She has nine surviving grandchildren; six nieces and five nephews. Elaine will be missed by her sweet kitties Marble and Buttons.
Friends are invited to in celebrate and honor Elaine’s life on Saturday, Sept. 23, at 2 p.m., at Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Atkins and Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, where friends may call one hour prior to services. The interment will be held for family only.

William Lewis Littleton, 62, of Lewes, died Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2006, at Heartland Hospice House in Wilmington.
Mr. Littleton was born in Lewes, Feb. 20, 1944. He had been employed by the Delaware Department of Transportation in the Traffic Division for more than 18 years, retiring on disability in 2000. Mr. Littleton was an artist who enjoyed oil painting, and he was also a freelance sign maker. He loved to play the guitar and the harmonica, and enjoyed singing. He also enjoyed taking scenic rides. Many years ago he had served with the Merchant Marines.
Mr. Littleton is survived by his beloved daughter, BillieLynn Littleton of Harrington; five sisters, Ann E. Carter and Sylvia Cash, both of Georgetown; Norma L. Lynch of Gumboro; Patricia M. Short and Barbara Yingling, both of Lewes; four brothers, Kenneth Littleton of Georgetown; Darrell Littleton of Milford; Charles Littleton of Harrington; and Robert Hitchens of Virginia; a granddaughter, Laura J. Littleton; a grandson, Michael J. Passwaters; a great-granddaughter, Kaylie Lynn Littleton; a very close neighbor, Julia Morris of Lewes; and a very close friend, Charlie Stuchlick of Georgetown.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, Sept. 24, at 2 p.m., at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. Joseph W. Kling Jr.,

Joseph William Kling Jr., 85, of Lewes, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2006, at his residence surrounded by his loving wife and family. He was born Oct. 16, 1920 in Stamford, Ct., son of the late Joseph William Kling Sr. and Catherine Victoria Walls Kling.
Mr. Kling was a former police officer in Harrington and Federalsburg, Md. He also drove for Service Trucking in Federalsburg and for King Cole in Milton. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during World War II and the Korean War. He was devoted to his family; he was a wonderful and kind man. He was a sports enthusiast, an avid fisherman and hunter. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife of 38 years, Catherine W. Kling; and by his second wife of two years, Maxine Crouch Kling; his brother, Wesley L. Kling; and his sister Carol E. Golden.
He is survived by his wife of 10 years Buena M. Newcomb Kling; three daughters, Sara Ann Hubbard and husband Ralph of Hurlock, Md., Gladys Moran and her husband John of Lincoln, and Barbara “Peaches” McGee and her husband William of Milford; one son, Joseph William Kling III of Lincoln; seven grandchildren, William Barry Hubbard, Samantha Lynn Quailes, Shaun Allen Moran, Damien Lee Moran, Steven David Moran, Brittany Shay Moran and Michael William McGee; four great-grandchildren, Brittney C. Hubbard, Audrey L. Hubbard, Riley Alexis Quailes and Autumn Kay McGee; and his sister Genevieve L. Irwin of Detroit, Mich.

Patrick J. Taylor, 57, of Gloucester City, N.J. and formerly of Lewes, died Monday, Sept. 18, 2006.
He was the devoted son of the late Linwood Taylor and Alice Taylor (nee Mitchell). He was the beloved brother of Bethany L. Ellis and her husband Michael J. Gloucester Heights and Faith A. Mazziotto of Bellmawr, N.J.; and dear uncle of six.
Patrick worked for Valmont Industries in Selbyville, as a welder and lived 20 years in Lewes.
Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Saint Mary’s R.C. Church, Gloucester City. Cremation will be private at the request of the family. Inurnment will be in New Saint Mary’s Cemetery, Bellmawr.

Robert W. Insley, 70, of Dover, passed away Tuesday Sept. 19, 2006 at KGH Bay Health Dover.
He was born Sept. 20, 1935 in Wilmington, to the late William and Florence Elliott Insley.
Mr. Insley graduated in 1953 from William Penn High School. He was honorably discharge from the U.S. Army with the rank of sergeant. He was in the Army reserves from 1953 to 1961. He was a member of UAW Local 435 and retired with 30 years of dedicated service with General Motors on Boxwood Road, Wilmington. He also worked for Wal-Mart in Dover from 1996 until his death. He loved all kinds of animals especially his cats Felix and Sunkist.
He is preceded in death by his wife Margaret M. Insley in 1999.
He is survived by a son and his wife, Joseph and Lou Ann Insley of Smyrna; a son and his financee, Tracy Insley and Novella Butz of New Castle; a daughter, Bridget Insley of Lewes; eight grandchildren, and 17 great-grand children.
Remembrances services will be held Friday, Sept. 22, at 11 a.m., at Trader Funeral Home in Dover. Burial will be at the Silverbrook Cemetery, Wilmington. Friends may call one hour before the time of the service at the Trader Funeral Home in Dover.

Michael ‘Mickey’ Borris

Michael “Mickey” Borris, 52 of Glen Mills, Pa., passed away surrounded by his loving family Saturday, Sept. 16, 2006, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Mr. Borris was born in Wilmington, June 6, 1954, son of the late Julian Borris, and Annabelle Faraone Borris. He was most recently employed by the Delaware News Journal, working for its delivery service. Mickey loved everything about cars…fixing them, driving fast in them, and even making models of them. He, himself, was a rare make and model and will be greatly missed by his friends and family.
In addition to his mother, Mr. Borris is survived by his companion Donna Tucker and her son, Josh; brothers, Christopher of Lewes, Jamie of Bear, and Jeffrey of Pittsburgh, Pa.; sister, Julie Borris Bell of Leesburg, Va.; six nephews and one niece.
Funeral services will be held privately.

Elmer S. Stokes,

Elmer S. Stokes, 83, of Lewes, passed away peacefully Sunday, Sept. 17, 2006, at his home in Conley’s Chapel Village, after a long illness.
Mr. Stokes was born Aug. 5, 1923, in Ocean City, N.J. to John J. and Anna Schaffer Stokes, after which the family moved to Havertown, PA, where Mr. Stokes attended Manoa Elementary and Havertown Junior High Schools.
The family then relocated to Lewes at which time Mr. Stokes enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1942. He received numerous citations and medals for his valorous combat service in the various Asiatic and Pacific Theaters of WWII, including Iwo Jima and Tarawa, as well as Good Conduct and Sharpshooter Medals. Following his honorable discharge from active duty in 1946, Staff Sgt. Stokes returned to the US but continued service to his country in the US Marine Corps Reserves until 1950, at which time he began his lifelong career as a master carpenter and commercial building contractor located in Dover.
He continued in his “retirement” as a consultant superintendent/estimator for several commercial contractors in Kent and Sussex Counties. Later he became a charter member in the Delaware Marine Corps League, Diamond State Detachment, where he served in the Color Guard until 2004. Throughout the years until age 80, he was an active member of the American Legion, VFW, Moose Club and Benevolent Protective Order of the Elks. He could usually be found in his workshop constructing some beautiful piece of furniture or cabinetry, WWII-era model ships and airplanes, or hand-painting his Marine Corps figurine flag holders for family and friends to enjoy. He also enjoyed attending harness races in Harrington and Dover, dog races while vacationing in Florida, and playing the slots anywhere.
Mr. Stokes was preceded in death by his wife of 39 years, Perpetua O’Brien Stokes.
He is survived by his sister, Virginia Beel of Lewes; five daughters, Alice Doeppe and her husband Jerry of Spotslvania, Va., Mitzi Allen of Belen, N.M., Priscilla Clark and her husband Robert of Lewes, Barbara Nielsen of Wilmington and Ingrid Stokes of Lewes; three sons, Christian Stokes and his wife Kasey of Dover, Buster Loud and his wife Diane of Port Charlotte, Fla., and Robert Loud and his wife Penny of Steuben, Maine; 15 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and two nieces. He will be dearly missed by his devoted friend and housekeeper, Kathy McBride of Lewes, his favorite cat buddy “Slazenger” and loving cocker spaniel “granddaughter” Summer Clark.
A memorial service and inurnment will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, Sept. 25, at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery located at 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro.

Catherine O. James-Elder ended her struggle with cancer on Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2006 at Lifecare at Loftland Park.
Cathy was born May 29, 1948 in Milford to Flaudine Otwell and the late I. Richard Otwell. She graduated from Laurel High School in 1966, followed by LPN training in 1967.
Cathy had a life long commitment to the care of others and was employed at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital for 36 years in the emergency room and the operating room. She also worked for Depuy Inc. for the last 6 years as a technical representative for all the Eastern Shore hospitals.
She was a past member of the Laurel Ladies Auxiliary and a member of Centenary Church. Her passions were shopping and classic cars. She was a member of the National Street Rod Association and loved to travel with her husband and family in her Street Rod.
Cathy is survived by her husband of 17 years, Kenneth J. Elder; her children, Todd E. James, Ruth M. James, Allery L. Elder, Ralph E. Elder and wife Jenny, Owen C. Elder, and Seth J. Elder and wife Ashley; her grandchildren, Heather, Ian, Haley, and Grant; her sisters, Bonnie Lundberg, Debbie Wilson; and her brothers and their wives, Ricky and Susan Otwell and Bill and Jan Otwell.
She was admired, respected and well loved by many and she will be sorely missed.
Cathy lovingly donated her body to cancer research therefore, a memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 23 at the Laurel Fire Hall located on 10th Street.

Nicholas J. Novello

Mr. Nicholas J. “Nick” Novello, 69, of New Castle, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, Sept. 14, 2006, surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Novello was born in Wilmington on June 18, 1937, a son of the late Mildred and Frank Novello Sr. A career member of Teamsters Local Union 326, he was employed as a professional truck driver for Standard Distributors in Wilmington until his retirement. He was a gifted athlete throughout his life and played league softball for more than 50 years with several local teams.
Mr. Novello was a Lifetime Member of the Police & Fire Rod & Gun Club and the Terrace Athletic Club, both in New Castle. He enjoyed playing horseshoes and cards and watching horse racing.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Dorothy F. Barnes Novello; three children, Michele N. Tolmie and her husband, Mark, of Newark, Richard A. Novello and his wife, Vickie, of Townsend and Vincent E. Novello and his wife, Kim, of New Castle; two sisters, Marion Marando of New Castle and Josephine Crossan of Long Neck; a brother, Paul Novello of Wilmington; 10 grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

Ruth H. Graybeal,

Ruth H. Graybeal died on Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2006, after a long illness with a Parkinson’s like disease.
She was born in Paoli, Pa., to Helen and Carl Harshbarger, but grew up in Hopewell, Va. Ruth graduated from Hopewell High School and was valedictorian of her class. She graduated from Madison College, now James Madison University, in Harrisonburg, Va., with a bachelor’s degree in education. In college she was a member of Alpha Sigma Alpha, a philanthropic sorority.
In 1950, she was married to C. Edward Graybeal, who was attending medical school at the University of Maryland in Baltimore. She then taught home economics in the Baltimore school system for two years while her husband finished medical school. The following year, she worked as a dietician at the former Delaware Hospital in Wilmington, while her husband was doing an internship there. After two years of military life with her husband serving as a medical officer in the Army, and four more years of surgical residency training in Wilmington, the couple moved to Milford in 1959.
Mrs. Graybeal was very active in the affairs of the Milford Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and in raising the couple’s four children.
She enjoyed having house parties, cooking, sewing, gardening, flying, golf and traveling. She was a member of Avenue United Methodist Church, although she had not been able to attend for many years.
In her younger years, with her husband being an avid pilot with his own airplane, she also became a licensed pilot. In recent years she became progressively more incapacitated by her disease. She was a member of the Milford Historical Society.
Mrs. Graybeal is preceded in death by her parents and her only sibling, a brother, Kenneth Carl Harshbarger of Long Pond, Pa. She is survived by her husband. Dr. C. Edward Graybeal, a retired surgeon; and four children - Dr. Glenn Graybeal of Milford, his wife, Susan, and their two daughters, Jennifer and Kelly; Dr. Michael Graybeal of Augusta, Ga., his wife, Sheila, and their three children, Nathan, Lesley and Daniel; Linda Callaway, R.N., of Milton, and her husband, Vaughn, and their three children, Matthew, Bryan and Stacey; and Dr. Casey Graybeal of Gainesville, Ga., and his wife, Susan, and their three children, Clayton, Marilyn and Austin.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 23, at the Avenue United Methodist Church, 20 N. Church St., Milford. Burial will be private.

Carol B. Blum, 61, of Millsboro, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2006, at home.
Mrs. Blum was born in Lake Charles, La. to the late Robert and Buelah Manuel Broussard.
She was a housewife and lived for and loved her grandchildren. She was happiest when she was around her grandchildren. She was an avid reader, loved the out doors and enjoyed country dancing. Carol was a volunteer for the American Legion Post 28 of Millsboro and a member of the Legion Auxiliary Unit 28. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Blum.
She is survived by three daughters, Pamela Snyder, Denise Blum-Krough and Georgia Lane; and five grandchildren, Rachel, Emily, Shawn Michael, Morgan and Gabrielle.

Elizabeth D. Amick, 99, formerly of Bedford, Pa., died peacefully, Sunday, Sept. 10, 2006, in Rochester, N.Y.
Elizabeth was employed by the Hartford Insurance Co. in Pittsburgh, Pa., before her marriage to James T. Amick in 1938. She retired in 1969 after 15 years of service at the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Elizabeth was a member of the Bedford Methodist Church for over 60 years; she was active in community activities and volunteer work and an avid bridge player. She maintained a summer home in Rehoboth Beach for more than 80 years.
She was equally at ease with the young, the old and her contemporaries and leaves many good friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James T. Amick and son-in-law, William E. Siney.
She was the beloved mother of Suzanne Siney and Carolyn (Andrew) Portanova; and the loving grandmother of W. Todd Siney and Scott Siney of Redondo Beach, Calif.; She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

William Walter “Dusty” Long, 67, of Harrington, died Thursday, Sept. 14, 2006, at home.
He was the son of William Clayton and Cecil Townsend Long. Mr. Long retired in 1996 from the Sussex Correctional Institution, Georgetown, where he had worked for 37 years.
He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and a member of VFW Post 6984 in Milton and American Legion Post in Oak Orchard. He was a member of Zoar United Methodist Church and helped with the youth there and he had coached Little League. He loved to fish and hunt, enjoyed collecting and reloading guns. He was very close to his granddaughters, Sophie Marie and Amanda, and to his closest friends, Bill and Joyce Handley and their son J.J. He taught J.J. how to hunt and was very proud of him.
He was also close to his goddaughter, Jen Brittingham and to Virginia Brittingham, who helped take care of him while he was so sick and was always there for him.
He is survived by his wife, Harriet Willey Long: his son, Dustey William Long; Carol A. Littleton of Long Neck, Billie Lynn Littleton of Harrington, Frances J. Hayden and her husband Robert Reed of Bridgeville, and Robert V. Hayden of Milford; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Richard Benjamin Mitchell, Jr., 79, of Rehoboth Beach, passed away Thursday, Sept. 14, 2006, at Harrison Senior Living in Georgetown. He was born Feb. 6, 1927 in Altoona, Ala., son of the late Richard Benjamin Mitchell Sr. and Minnie Belle “Love” Mitchell.
Mr. Mitchell had a long career as a coordinator with the Washington Gaslight Company in Washington, DC. He also served on the Civil Aeronautics Board for two years. He was an Army veteran of World War II, where he served under General Eisenhower.
He is survived by his brother, Alfred Mitchell of Gadsen, Ala.; his sister Patricia Mitchell of Bethesda, Md. and Rehoboth Beach; and several nieces and nephews. All services are private.

Bert Reilly, 89, passed away Monday, Sept. 11, 2006, at Harbor Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center, Lewes.
Mrs. Reilly was a longtime resident of Chester, Pa., but was currently residing in Rehoboth Beach. She was educated in Buffalo, N.Y., and employed with Delaware County National Bank, Chester, Pa., and Spear Brothers in Chester. She belonged to the Mothers Guild of the Resurrection of Our Lord Parish, St. Joseph’s Church in Aston, Pa., and enjoyed crocheting and visiting her great-grandchildren.
She was a devoted wife to the late John P. Reilly for more than 50 years. She was the mother of Patricia Campbell of Millsboro and Jane Reilly of Millsboro; sister of Lillie Ballad of Aston and the late Emma Gilmore; grandmother of two; and great-grandmother of three.
Services were held at at St. Joseph’s Church, 251 Concord Rd., Aston. Burial wase in Lawn Croft Cemetery, Linwood, Pa. Arrangements by Bateman Funeral Home, Brookhaven, Pa.

Vernon Isaacs, 56, of Millsboro, died Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2006, at home.
He was the son of the late George and Lucy K. Bowden Isaacs. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Alton Isaacs, who died in 1960. Irvin loved country music and playing the guitar. He had been in the Army Reserve.
He is survived by his cousin Irvin Betts and wife Nancy of Georgetown.
Graveside service were held at Carey’s Cemetery, Millsboro. Pastor Richard Blades of Calvary Baptist Church officiated.

Marie Sarnowski Baykowski, 94, of Rehoboth Beach and formerly of Linden, N.J.., passed away Sunday, Sept. 10, 2006, at home.
Born in Elizabeth, N.J., she lived in Linden for 59 years, moving to Delaware nine years ago. Mrs. Baykowski was an assember for Plessy-Airborne in Hillside, N.J. for 15 years, retiring in 1971.
She was predeceased by her husband, Stanley Sr.; a son, Stanley Jr.; a sister, Stella Corb; and a grandson, Thoms Baykowski. Mrs. Baykowski was a devoted mother of Barbara Zbranak of Whiting, N.J. and Thomas Baykowski of Delaware; dear mother-in-law of Carolynne Baykowski; loving sister of Genevieve Clark of Plantation, Fla. and Chester Crovicz of South Plainfield, N.J.; cherished grandmother of six grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Edwin Lammert Harvey, 78, of Rehoboth Beach, passed away Sunday, Sept. 17, 2006, at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes.
He was born May 10, 1928 in Baltimore, Md., son of the late Edwin A. and Anna E. Lammert Harvey.
Mr. Harvey retired from the Baltimore City Police Department as a sergeant after serving the city for 22 years. He was a member of the FOP, Baltimore City Lodge 3 and a 32nd-degree Mason with the Millington Lodge 166 AF and AM, Catonsville, Md. He was a member of American Legion Post 17, Lewes and he was a former member and past president of the Lewes Lions Club. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Edwin R. Harvey, in 1980.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Wilhelmina D. Harvey; a granddaughter, Gina and her husband Robert O’Brien Jr. of Bel Air, Md.; a grandson, Joseph Borzymowski III of Forest Hills, Md.; and by his daughter-in-law Mary Borzymowski of Forest Hills.

Sylvester E. Thompson, 61, of Millsboro, died Friday, Friday, Sept. 15, 2006, at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes.
He was predeceased by his father, George Thompson, in 1989.
He is survived by his mother, Bertha Mae Thompson of Millsboro; daughters Sylvia Norman of Blades, Barbara Norman of Seaford and Laura Norman of Concord; brothers George Thompson of Millsboro and Bruce Thompson of Millsboro; a sister, Mildred Harmon of Lewes; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Mr. Thompson enjoyed fishing, hunting and NASCAR. His favorite driver was Jeff Gordon. He had been a chicken catcher for 40 years. He had been a lifelong resident of the Millsboro area.

Parnell Thomas “Pee Wee” Biles, 56, of Rehoboth Beach died Saturday, Sept. 9, 2006, in his home.
Mr. Biles was born Feb. 2, 1950, in Wadesboro, N.C., son of the late Roper and Sarah Smith Biles.
He was the first African American male to attend the former Rehoboth High School, becoming the first black Seahawk.
Mr. Biles served in the U.S. Army for four years and 23 years in the Reserves.
He worked for Delmarva Power and Light for 34 years until his illness forced him to stop.
Mr. Biles was a 33rd-degree Mason, a member of St. Matthew’s Grand chapter Order of the Eastern Star’s Prince Hall Affiliation, Rising Sun Lodge 4’s Prince Hall Affiliation, Past Worship Master, G. Oscar Carrington Consistory 93’s Prince Hall Affiliation. He was also a member of Friendship Baptist Church and served on the usher board and men’s chorus.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Marjorie O. Duffy Biles; three sons, Parnell Brittingham of Rehoboth Beach, Barry Biles of Dover, and Brian Biles of Durham, N.C.; a daughter, Tosha Barnard of Ludowici, Ga.; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Sandy Biles of Augusta, Ga.; and three sisters, Lessie Rasheed of West Point, N.Y., Doris Biles of Rehoboth Beach and Mary Sturdivant of Georgetown.

Harry ‘Frank’ Whaples,
World War II veteran
Harry “Frank” Whaples, 79, of Rehoboth Beach, passed peacefully from his residence into the loving arms of Jesus Christ his Savior, Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2006, after a difficult battle with cancer.
He was born in Wilmington, Feb. 16, 1927, son of the late Fredrick N. Whaples and the late Nina Hastings Whaples Bird.
Frank was born, raised and lived in Delaware all his life. He served three years in the Navy’s South Pacific Fleet during World War II and as an Army Airborne squad leader in the 82nd Airborne Division. He was a member of the American Legion Post 28 as well as the Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 7234, where he was part of the honor guard. He was an avid Phillies fan, but even more so he enjoyed playing softball for Delmarva’s Olde Tymers Softball League. Frank was a born-again Christian and an active member of the First Baptist Church of Lewes.
He will be dearly and lovingly missed by his wife of 49 years, Liv Hegdal Whaples; his sons, Franklin Lee and his wife Jodie of Dotham, Ala. and Jack Booth and his wife Cindy of Michigan; his daughters, Lori Ann Citro of Newark, Carrie Lynn Heldmann and her husband Richard of Brandiburg, N.J., and Tina Kay Tessein of Newark; 10 grandchildren, Michael E. Tessein and his wife Ebony, Marc E. Tessein, Mallory Tessein, Joey Conner, Julie A. Citro, Ethan Citro, Kelsey Doughton, Anton Heldmann, Joseph Heldmann and Franklin William Whaples; one great-granddaughter, Michaela Tessein; four sisters, Ruth Schirmer, Madelyn Mills, Evelyn Cahall and Cathy Shutak; and many nieces and nephews here in the USA and in Norway. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son James Booth.

John E. “Jack” Wilkerson, 80, of Milton, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2006, at home.
Mr. Wilkerson was born in Berlin, Md., son of the late Elijah and Addie Mae Lynch Wilkerson. He was owner and operator of John E. Wilkerson Electrical Contractor, retiring in 1997. He owned and operated the Broadkill Store from 1956 to 1966, where he rented fishing boats in the Delaware Bay. He enjoyed fishing, crabbing, gardening and spending time at the beach. He also loved spending time with is wife, daughter, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Almira Reed Wilkerson; a daughter and son-in-law, Jackie Hudson and Wade Sr. of Milton; two grandchildren, Lisa Garrison and husband John, and Allen Callaway; two great-grandchildren, Noah and Liam Garrison; a stepgrandson, Wade “Buddy” Hudson Jr.; a sister, Margie Jarvis of Seaford; and several nieces and nephews.

Frances D. Ayers, 66, of Lewes, passed away Thursday, Sept. 7, 2006, in her home.
Mrs. Ayers was born Sept. 9, 1939, in Parksley, Va. She received her education in Delaware public schools. She worked in housekeeping in several motels in Rehoboth Beach until her illness.
Mrs. Ayers enjoyed her life and her grandchildren. Her smile always told a story.
She is survived by her mother, Dorothy Kellam of Parksley; two sons and two daughters-in-law, Milton and Dawn Ayers of Milford, and Ronel and Brenda Ayers of Berlin, Md.; two daughters, Anna Young of Georgetown, and Shelia White of Lewes; three sisters, Gladys Corbin, Agnes Northern, and Theresa Davis, all of Parksley; two brothers, Cornell West, and James West, both of Parksley; and two very dear friends, Roberta Hopkins of Milton, and Judy Gordon of Lewes.

She was a homemaker and a retired cook who had worked at Norma’s Restaurant in Milton. She attended the Rock Church in Laurel.
She was predeceased by her husband, Albert Willey; and a daughter, Dorothy Wells.
She is survived by a daughter, Shirley Evans of Seaford; her caregiver grand-daughter, Evelyn Jester; grandchildren, Charles Evans Jr., Teresa Maddux, Gail Evans and William Shaffstal; and nine great-grandchildren.

Salvatore E. Scarfi, 74, of Millsboro, died Sunday, Sept. 10, 2006, at Beebe Medical Center, Lewes.
He was the son of the late Michael and Grazia Spinali Scarfi. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Anthony Scarfi, in 1999.
Salvatore was a Navy veteran. He had worked in the aviation industry, starting at Lockheed and ending at Georgetown Aircraft. He also had been a self-employed insurance agent. He was a member of the Mason-Dixon VFW Post 7234, life member of the American Legion Post 28, local president of the Italian Heritage Association, past board member of Children & Families First, trustee on the board of the Delaware Aviation Hall of Fame and past mentor for Creative Mentoring. He will be missed by all his family and friends.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Carol Bryan Scarfi; a sister, “Vi” Vastola of Islip, N.Y.; his children, Joanne Ferro and husband Bruce of North East, Md.; Lori Emory and husband David of Newark; Linda Scarfi of Newark; Suzanne Keller and husband John of Wilmington; and Brian Powers of Elkton, Md.; and grandchildren: Lukas, Juli Ann, Rachael, Caroline.

Robert L. Weaver Jr., 57, of Lincoln, passed away Friday, Sept. 8, 2006, at his home surrounded by his loved ones.
He was born Dec. 4, 1948 in Lewes, son of the late Barbara Cooper Bertrand and Robert L. Weaver Sr. of Oreana. Ill.
Mr. Weaver loved and touched the lives and hearts of everyone he knew. He loved life and lived it to the fullest. His greatest love was his wife and family. He was a graduate of Cape Henlopen High School and attended two year of college. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Vietnam War. He will be missed and never forgotten by all.
In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife of 20 years, Alice M. Teubner Weaver; two sons, Robert L. Weaver III of Decatur, Ill. and Justin Weaver of Mt. Zion, Ill.; one daughter, Robin Miller of Dover; one step-son, Jeffrey S. McBee of Milford; three stepdaughters, Georgia M. Ledesma and her husband Carlos of Decatur, Ill., Lisa J. McConnell of Milton, and Judith L. Hedges of Lincoln; seven grandchildren, Nicole McBee, Christopher Lake, Antonio Ledesma, Alex Ledesma, Clint Hedges, Erin Hedges, and Kyle Dennis; two great-grandchildren, Jason C. Marjorie Rue Cropper, 84 of Wilmington, passed away at home Saturday, Sept. 9, 2006.
Mrs. Cropper was born in Denton, Md., the daughter of the late Gilbert and Dorothy Rue. She attended Caroline County High School and graduated from Western Maryland College. She worked for Kennard’s Department store as a personnel manager, and the DuPont Co. as an administrative assistant, where she retired in 1984. She was a member and deacon of Red Clay Creek Presbyterian Church and involved with the Girl Scouts of the USA, church, Sunday school, and other youth activities. She volunteered with the literacy program at local schools. Marge undertook a ministry of caring by sending cards and letters to many friends, known and unknown.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Halton G. Cropper; her daughter, Nancy Cropper of Hockessin; her son, Alan Cropper and his wife, Kathleen, of Long Neck; her brother, John Rue and his wife, Helen, of Springfield, Va.; her sister, Anita White of Fort Pierce, Fla.; her granddaughters, Aimee Sethness and her husband, Ryan, of San Antonio, Texas; Elizabeth Clues and her husband, Jonathan, of Atlanta, Ga., Paula Smith and her daughter, Melanie, of Kennett Square, Pa.

Margaret W. Clements, 92, of Hockessin, formerly of Milford, died Monday, Sept. 11, 2006, in Cokesbury Village, Hockessin.
She was born Nov. 8, 1913, in Campbelltown, Md., daughter of the late Thomas G. “T. G.” and Minnie Coffin Walston.
Mrs. Clements assisted with the bookkeeping for Culligan Water Conditioning, a business her late husband owned and operated for many years in Milford. She also was a fulltime homemaker.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, David A. Clements Jr., in 2000; a brother, Milton “Mitt” Walston; a sister, Jane Walston Smith; two brothers-in-law, Bernard Clements and Charles Clements; and a sister-in-law, Katherine Williams.
She is survived by a sister, Zada Walston Wilgus of Bethany Beach; a brother-in-law, James B. Clements and his wife, Marjorie, of Seaford; four sisters-in-law, Margaret Ann Jones of Milford, Ruth Lingo and her husband, Raymond D., of Millsboro, Ethel Mayhew and her husband, Harry, of Bear and Kiran Clements of Dover; a special niece, Virginia “Ginny” Jones Chen of Middletown, who unselfishly cared for her during the 19 years that she lived at Cokesbury; and a host of other nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and friends from her years in Milford and Cokesbury.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m., Friday, Sept. 15, in the Milford Community Cemetery, N. Walnut St., Milford.
David M. Dermer,

David M. Dermer, 51, of Rehoboth Beach, died Monday, Sept. 11, 2006, at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes.
Mr. Dermer was born and raised in Brooklyn, N.Y. He attended high school and college in Liberty, N.Y., after which he went to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., where he managed the Lauderdale Beach Club.
He then relocated to Washington, D.C., where he owned and operated a fish market for several years, and later moved to Ithaca, N.Y., where he worked in the food industry for several more years. There, Mr. Dermer became the vice president of the Finger Lakes Group, a food brokerage company, and remained in that position until 1999 when he retired due to a severe disability. He and his wife Bonnie and son Alex moved from Binghamton, N.Y., to their present residence near Rehoboth Beach, in June of this year.
Mr. Dermer was an avid fisherman, loved the beach and this area, and was an awesome cook. He will always be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor, his love of life and his devotion to his wife and son.
Mr. Dermer was the son of Milton Dermer and Ada Moskowitz Dermer of Liberty, N.Y.
He is survived by his wife Bonnie B. Boice Dermer; a son, Alex Dermer of Rehoboth Beach; a sister, Jean Dermer and friend Chris of Monticello, N.Y.; a brother, Irving Dermer and wife Sarabeth of Stem, N.C.; his adored niece and nephews, Shawna, Ben and Bobby; and two very dear friends, Doug and Elaine Greenlief of Myrtle Beach, N.C.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard, in 1986.
She is survived by two sons, Neil Fisher and Joel Fisher; three daughters, Amee Fisher, Joyce Adalbert and Barbara Fisher; a brother, Elwood Lauver; four sisters, Geraldine Kerstetter, Helen Hart, Catherine Meiser and Sandra Sheaffer; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Mildred L. Baker, 80, of Georgetown and formerly of Claymont, passed away Monday, Sept. 11, 2006, at Harbor Healthcare in Lewes.
Mildred was born Jan. 13, 1926 in Prospect Park, Pa., to the late Frank and Evelyn (Rice) Ives.
She worked on an assembly line for car panels before her retirement.
She enjoyed working with people, loved crabbing and animals and enjoyed camping.
Mildred was also a member of the Tall Cedars Shrine of Wilmington.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William K. Baker, in 1982.
She is survived by two sons, William K. Baker Jr., and Robert Frank Baker; three daughters, Mildred L. Reed, Margaret Stamm and Helen Robinson and her husband Larry; a brother, Robert Ives; three sisters, Virginia, Dorothy and Eve; eight grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. McCabe was born March 9, 1931, daughter of the late Roy Washington and Blanche Brasure.
She was a graduate of Millsboro High School.
Mrs. McCabe was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Millsboro, and a member of the American Legion Post 28 in Oak Orchard.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William R. “Scrapple” McCabe Jr. in 1992; a son, Douglas Lee McCabe in 1964; and a granddaughter, Tara Ann Fisher in 2006.

Robert B. Houston,
decorated WWII veteran
Robert Browning Houston, 83, of Bigsby, Okla., died in a diabetic coma Saturday, April 8, 2006, in Oklahoma Veterans Center, Claremore.
Mr. Houston was born Sept. 24, 1922, in Owens Station, Del., son of the late Philip and Harriett Elizabeth (Dolbow) Houston and direct descendant of Robert Houston who came to Accomack, Va., from Wigtownshire, Scotland, in 1652.
He studied theology at King’s College, New Castle.
Mr. Houston was inducted into the U.S. Army, Co. C, 334th Infantry Division on Sept. 17, 1943, where he trained in the Anti-Tank unit at Fort Chaffee, Ark., and he began active duty Oct. 8 1943. He marched in review before President Roosevelt during the New York City July 4, 1944, parade. He then proceeded onto the ship to cross the Atlantic Ocean to Liverpool, England, via Florida and Iceland to join the European Theater of Operations in Central Europe, the Ardennes and the Rhineland.
Wounded by gunpowder explosion in St. Lo, France, he was evacuated to England and hospitalized two and a half months before rejoining the 84th Railsplitters in Belgium. His unit was trucked to the front lines of battle Christmas Day and crossed the Ruhr river by boat into Germany January 1945. Rafting the Rhine, they joined forces with Russian allies at the Elbe River.
Mr. Houston was cited with a Certificate of Merit pertaining to a march through the Bavarian Black Forest into a would-be ambush. Pvt. Houston, detecting quivering tops of brush on either side, charged out of line toward the rear and began firing, preventing certain death to the troops. He was wounded while engaging in hand-to-hand combat by a gun that slammed into the base of his skull causing temporary paralysis. Severe nerve damage required recuperation in Switzerland.
A decorated sharpshooter, he was bestowed with the comb Infantry badge HQ 334th Infantry on March 3, 1945, the European-African Middle Eastern Service medal, the Good Conduct medal, the Presidential Unit Citation and the World War II Victory medal. After D-Day, he served in Occupational Forces and returned stateside March 12, 1946.
Prior to his service, he was employed by Martin Aircraft, Baltimore. He later worked as a federal employee of the U.S. Postal Service.
He married Bessie Pepper of Georgetown in 1950.
Throughout his life, he abstained from the use of tobacco and alcohol. He raised livestock on land purchased near Sapulpa, Okla., in 1958. He was endowed with great physical strength and an aptitude in mathematics. He possessed a competitive spirit in athletics and as a member of the FFA, captured blue ribbons in agricultural and finished furniture entries representing Greenwood High School.
Mr. Houston was a member of the Church of the Brethren at Farmington, he assisted the ministry of its Williamsville mission under the Rev. William McDaniel. Upon relocating to California in 1952, he assisted the Olympian pole vaulting champion, the Rev. Bob Richards, of the Long Beach Church of the Brethren. A disabled veteran, he supported the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled Veterans fundraisers.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Owens Houston; and three sisters, Elizabeth Houston, Beulah H. Kulmack and Margaret H. Fooks.
He is survived by seven sons, Robert of Anchorage, Alaska, John of Fort Worth, Texas, Warrant Officer IV Philip II of Vass, N.C., Steve of Georgetown and David, Mark, and Daniel, all of Tulsa, Okla.; a daughter, Ruth of Milton; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four sisters and a brother-in-law, Florence H. and Frederick McKinney of Columbia, Pa., and Mary Houston, Elsie Houston and Harriett Houston, all of Owens Station; a niece, Ellen Peterson of Greenwood; and a host of other relatives.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16, in St. Johnstown Cemetery, Greenwood.

Marian was a graduate of Padua Academy and Wilmington School of Nursing. She left her career of nursing to raise her three children and later joined her husband in business. Marian was devoted to her family and lived life to the fullest. She was passionate about playing bridge, creating beautiful quilts and fly fishing. Marian will always be remembered for her love of entertaining friends and family and her culinary expertise. She loved to be surrounded by her friends and family.

Mrs. Fichter was born in Philadelphia, daughter of the late John A. and Susan (Corrigan) Robb. She was an elementary school teacher at Annunciation Catholic School in Havertown, Pa., and Our Lady of Lords Catholic School in Philadelphia.
Mrs. Fichter moved to Rehoboth Beach in 1982 from Havertown. She was a member of St. Edmond’s Catholic Church, Rehoboth Beach.
Mrs. Fichter was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and was a member of the Cape Henlopen Senior Center in Rehoboth Beach.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence J. Fichter, in 1999; and a son, Lawrence J. Fichter Jr., in 1989.

Mary McGrew Lee of Rehoboth Beach, 62, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2006, at her home after a courageous struggle with cancer.
Mrs. Lee was born July 5, 1944, in Wilmington, to the late Frank C. and Maxine Remaly McGrew.
She graduated from the Tower Hill School in Wilmington, received a bachelor’s degree from Sweet Briar College in Virginia and earned a masters degree from the University of Delaware. She was a mediator for the Family Court of Delaware in Georgetown.
Mrs. Lee was an active member of Epworth United Methodist Church for more than 40 years, serving on countless boards and committees, and she especially enjoyed singing in the Chancel Choir.
She was active within her community and served as a source of strength and inspiration to many. On sunny summer weekends, she could be found surrounded by her family and friends on Deauville Beach.
A beloved mother, grandmother and friend, she is survived by her fiancé and best friend, James A. Caulfield; her four children and their spouses, Caroline and Richard Cross, William and Leslie Lee, Virginia and Louis Calabrese, and John E.B. Lee; and her greatest pride and joy, her six grandsons: William, Henry and George Cross, John and W. Swain Lee, and Nicholas Calabrese.
She is also survived by her siblings and their spouses, Carol and James Getty of Kansas City, Mo., and Michael and Jane McGrew of Bexley, Ohio.
Memorial services will be at 11a.m., Saturday Sept. 9, at Epworth United Methodist Church, 20 Baltimore Ave., Rehoboth Beach, with the Rev. Jack Abel officiating, followed by a brief reception at her home to celebrate her life.

He was born Feb. 8, 1924 in Garden City, N.Y., the son of the late Harold Anton Nehrbas and Roberta Searing Nehrbas.
Mr. Nehrbas moved to Sussex County in 1976 after 25 years as a stockbroker in New York City. In his retirement years he enjoyed gardening and working with his fish pond. Mr. Nehrbas was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving in the Phillipines, where he was hand selected to serve on General MacArthur’s Honor Guard.
He is survived by four sons, Peter V. Nehrbas of Milton, Mark Nehrbas of Steubenville, Oh., Robert Nehrbas of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Jeffrey Nehrbas of Phoenix, Ariz.; 16 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Beulah A. Reed, 91, of Milton, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2006, at Milford Center.
Mrs. Reed was born in Angola, the daughter of the late Howard and Viola Moore Bryan. She was co-founder of Reed Trucking Co. in Milton and had been part of its daily operations for many years. She graduated from the University of Delaware and taught school in the Milton and Prime Hook areas.
Mrs. Reed was an active member of Goshen United Methodist Church for more than 60 years, holding many offices in the church and serving as past president of the United Methodist Women. She was also a member and had been past president of the Milton Century Club and had held many offices in the Delaware State Federation of Women’s Clubs.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Reed is preceded in death by a daughter, Jane Clara Reed; a son, Ralph Allen Reed; two brothers, George Bryan and Ransford Bryan; and two sisters, Florence Travers and Bertie Pepper.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, O. Blake and Donna Reed of Milton; four grandchildren, George Reed, Christine Reed, Danelle Reed and Samantha Reed; four great-grandchildren, Chelsea Reed, Tyler Reed, Conner Haxton and Victoria Haxton; and a former daughter-in-law, Nancy Reed of Milton.

Mr. Fisher was born Oct. 13, 1930, in Millsboro, the son of the late Loran Hickman and Catherine Fisher. John was a veteran of Korea, serving in the U.S. Navy. Mr. Fisher was a retired custodian in the Cape Henlopen School District working in the Rehoboth Junior High School building before retiring in 1990. He also was an avid fisherman where he enjoyed fishing off the pier at Cape Henlopen State Park.
He is survived by his wife and loving companion of 49 years, Faith Fisher; two sons, Paul and his wife Susan Fisher of Hamburg, N.Y. and John Fisher Jr. of Lewes; two daughters, Karen Short and her husband Charles of Georgetown and Lynn Hunter and her husband Gary of Milford; a sister, Geraldine Pleasanton of Boynton Beach, Fla.; five grandchildren, Corry Hunter, Aimee Fisher, Brian Sherman, Tyler Short and Megan Short.

Donald A. Kirchman, 79, passed away peacefully at home Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2006, surrounded by her family.
Donald was born in Wilkes Barre, Pa., to the late Carl and Ann Their Kirchman. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and the Korean War. He retired from General Motors in Wilmington in 1985 after 25 years of service.
He was a member of Rehoboth Beach VFW Post 7447, the Cape Henlopen Elks Lodge and enjoyed being the post Chaplain for American Legion Post 5 in Rehoboth Beach. He enjoyed singing and dancing at the American Legion and going to the casino with his wife.
He is survived by his wife of 14 years, Veronica Zimniuch Kirchman; a daughter, Dawn, and her husband Kelly McKeown; and three grandchildren, Heather, Katie and Sean McKeown; two stepdaughters, JoAnn and Annette Vitullo; one brother, John Kirchman and his wife, Irma; a sister, Laura Uslowski.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Phyllis St. Claire Kirchman.

Mrs. Kilpatrick was born in Wilmington and had lived in Port Orange since 1995 when she moved from Lewes. She graduated from Padua Academy in Wilmington and went to Salisbury State University, where she earned a degree as an X-ray technician.
She went to work for Beebe Medical Center in Lewes and later became the head of the X-ray department. In Florida, she was the X-ray technician for the Orthopedic Clinic of Daytona Beach.
She also helped run the family business, Port Orange Florist. She was a member of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, Port Orange.
She is survived by her husband of 27 years, Philip Sr.; her son, Philip Jr. of Port Orange; her parents, William and Carolann Whitlock of Port Orange; her brother, Jeff Whitlock of Port Orange; and two sisters, Barbara Crosby and Susan Bennett, both of Port Orange.
She will be dearly missed and was loved by all.

William W. Ellsworth III, 64, of Georgetown died Friday, Sept. 1, 2006, in Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, as a result of injuries sustained from an automobile accident.
Mr. Ellsworth was born in Wilmington, son of the late William W. Jr. and Mildred Jo (McCarter) Ellsworth.
He was a mechanic for the past six years at Boulevard Ford in Georgetown.
Mr. Ellsworth enjoyed NASCAR, hotrods and cruise-ins, and most of all his family, friends and especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Irene V. (Matthews) Ellsworth; three sons and two daughters-in-law, William W. IV and Sharon Ellsworth of Georgetown, Walter “Allen” and Tracy Ellsworth of Laurel and Jesse Edward Cramier of Michigan; two daughters and a son-in-law, Kimberly Jo and Dean Elliott of Laurel and Lisa Hope Ruark of Georgetown; two sisters, Cathy McCarty of Millville, N.J., and JoAnn Giles of Charleston, S.C.; two brothers, Robert Wayne Ellsworth of Georgetown and Joseph Larry Ellsworth of Wilmington; and 14 grandchildren, Mark Ruark, Steven Burroughs, Dustin Elliott, Nikki Elliott, Heather Ellsworth, Justin Ellsworth, Matthew Adams, Christian Ellsworth, Kasey Ellsworth, Taegan Elliot, David Cramier, Mandy Cramier, Jared Cramier and Jeremiah Cramier.

Lottie Mae Tyndall, 93, of Milton, died Saturday, Sept. 2, 2006, in Green Valley Terrace Nursing Home, Millsboro.
Mrs. Tyndall was born in Milton, daughter of the late Willard Henry and Mary Marvel Donovan.
She had played basketball while a student at the former Milton High School.
She was a steam presser for many years at a shirt factory and also helped with the family owned and operated Tyndall’s Flying A Gas Station in Milton. She was also a caregiver for the late Julia Pettyjohn.
Mrs. Tyndall was a member of Goshen United Methodist Church and Midland Grange No. 27.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Marsh Tyndall; two sons, Lloyd Tyndall and Willard Tyndall; a brother, David Donovan.
She is survived by two daughters-in-law, Ruth Tyndall of Millsboro and Jeannie Brittingham of Milford; four grandchildren, Lloyd “Sonny” Tyndall III and his wife Joan of Georgetown, Gregg A. Tyndall and his wife Susan of Milton, Tracy E. Tyndall and his fiancée Kelly Conoway, both of Milton and William L. “Bill” Tyndall and his fiancée Susan Davis, both of Milton; and eight great-grandchildren, Shaun Tyndall, Julia Tyndall, Dalton Tyndall, Bethany Rose Tyndall, Taylor Morgan Tyndall, Sommer Paige Tyndall, William Hunter Tyndall and Kristine Davis.

Estella Mae Conquest, 76, of Millsboro, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2006, in her home.
Ms. Conquest was born Dec. 29, 1929, in Accomack County, Va., daughter of the late George and Addie Conquest.
She was educated in the public schools in Accomack, and later moved to Millsboro.
She was employed in the poultry industry until her retirement from Showell Farms in 1991.
Ms. Conquest was a devoted and faithful member of the Pentecostal Prayer Room Holiness Church until her illness.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Richard Allen Conquest; a daughter, Shirley Elizabeth Jackson; three brothers, Major White, John Conquest and James Conquest; and two sisters, Carrie Wilson and Janie Hall.
She is survived by her cherished companion of 53 years, Raymond A. Hood; three sons, John Edward Young of Washington, D.C., Roger and Ruth Conquest of Millsboro and Marcus and Paulette Conquest of Dover; six daughters and five sons-in-law, Doretta and Donald Hitchens of Millsboro, Kathleen and William Bowen of Millsboro, Doreen Conquest of Ellendale, Claretta and Billy Jackson of Millsboro, Jeanette Conquest-Davis and Peter Davis of Dover, and Patricia and Rufus Jones of Millsboro; a son-in-law, Ronnie Jackson of Millsboro; and a brother-in-law, Burless Hall Sr. of Millsboro; 34 grandchildren; 67 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a special great-great-grandson, Daykhi Carey; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6, in Second St. John Baptist Church, Millsboro, where friends may call two hours earlier.

Kathleen Kollock, 90, of Millsboro, died Thursday, Aug. 31, 2006, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, Md.
She was the daughter of the late William Sr. and Stella West Chandler.
Mrs. Kollock had been a real estate agent, member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, past president of the WSCS, and a very proud mother grandmother and great grandmother who loved her family very much. She was also a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church, Dagsboro.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph A. Sr., in 2000; a brother, William Chandler Jr.; and a great-grandson, Gage Kollock.
She is survived by her sons, Joseph Jr. and Connie Kollock of Millsboro and William and Zola Kollock of St. Petersburg, Fla.; her grandchildren: Joseph A. Kollock III and his wife Lisa, James A. Kollock and his wife Kim, Mia Turtle and her husband Jesse; and her great-grandchildren, Alaena, Kristina, Jason, Gunner, Colt, Brie Kollock, Zoe and Owen Turtle.

Delbert Wilson Simpson Sr., 68, of Dover, died Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2006, in his home surrounded by his family.
Mr. Simpson was born May 18, 1938, in Dover, son of the late W.B. Simpson and Mary (Wilson) Simpson.
He was a graduate of Caesar Rodney High School, class of 1956. Mr. Simpson served in the Delaware National Guard.
He spent his working career as a carpenter/mechanic in the Delaware area. Mr. Simpson enjoyed his retirement - fishing, woodworking, and collecting and shooting firearms. He loved to be with family and taught his children and family the use of firearms and target shooting. He was gifted with the art of conversation and loved visits from family and friends to share stories and advice.
His greatest joys and accomplishments were his children and grandchildren. He is survived by a son, Del Simpson Jr. of Wyoming; a daughter, Laura Anne Simpson and her fiancé, John M. Stevens of Hartly; his companion, Jean Gunnells of Dover; two sisters, Jane Bethard and her husband, Ken, and Mary Ann Teller, all of Camden; a brother, George Simpson of Rehoboth Beach; two grandchildren, Del Simpson III and Brittany Simpson of Hopwood, Pa.; a cousin Joseph Simpson; and several nieces and nephews and an extended family of friends.
Services were held in the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, with burial private.

Jean Allmond Johns, 63, a mother, grandmother and nurse, died Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2006, of leukemia at her home in Millsboro. Ms. Johns is a former resident of Bel Air, Md. and Melbourne, Fla.
Ms. Johns was born in Wilmington, to Charles and Margaret Allmond July 15, 1943. She graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School and married Michael C. Johns in 1960. Ms. Johns graduated at the top of her nursing class in 1977 and worked for many years in maternity wards of hospitals in Maryland, Florida and Delaware.
Children were the great joy of her life and her love and concern will be remembered by her former patients as well as her children and grandchildren. Jean was a kind and gentle woman who harbored a great hatred for all vegetables.
Ms. Johns is survived by three sons, Michael Allmond Johns of Cocoa Beach, Fla., David Charles Johns of Elkridge, Md., and Daniel Foster Johns of Melbourne, Fla.; and seven grandchildren.
Services for Ms. Johns will be Friday, Sept. 1, at 1:30 p.m., at McCrery Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington (Rt. 202, south of Silverside Rd.) where friends may call 1 hour prior. Interment will be in Wilmington & Brandywine Cemetery.

He was a member of Milford Elks Lodge and past member of the Delaware Water Well Association. He enjoyed cooking and baking cakes.

Charles R. Pusey, 78, of Bridgeville, passed away on Monday, Aug. 28, 2006 at the Lewes Convalescent Center in Lewes.
He was born in Laurel to the late Raymond and Catherine (Boyce) Pusey.
Mr. Pusey had formerly worked as a supervisor of the paint division for Nanticoke Homes.
Prior to this time, he owned and operated his own paint contracting company. He was the former president of the local Men’s Club in Bridgeville, was a great NASCAR fan and an avid water fowl hunter.
For many years he performed a one man comedy act for the Bridgeville Lions Club, often packing the house.
He was a WW II Army veteran serving in the Asiatic Pacific Theater as a marksman.
Mr. Pusey is survived by his wife, Mildred B. Pusey of Bridgeville; his son, Gary Pusey of Bridgeville; his daughter, Lynn Wajda and her husband Michael of Milton; two sisters, Josephine Waller and her husband Frank and Doris Jane Conaway and her husband Ronnie all of Laurel; three granddaughters, Lori Fowler and her husband Craig, and Ashley Ellingsworth both of Maine, and Jennifer Pusey of Milford; a grandson, Colby Pusey of Bridgeville; step-grandson, John Wajda and wife, Amy of West Virginia; and two step great grandchildren, Mitchell and Zachary Wajda, both of West Virginia.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Sept. 1, at the Union United Methodist Church, Corner of Market & Laws Sts., Bridgeville, where friends may call one hour prior to services. Rev. Gary Tulak and Rev. Dale Brown will officiate. Burial will follow at Bridgeville Cemetery.

John Fay Maple, 75, of Magnolia, died Saturday, Aug. 26, 2006, at his residence.
Mr. Maple was born in Watervaliet, NY, son of the late Fay and Yvonne (Couture) Maple. He was a retired Navy and Civil Service employee working in food service and supply management. He served in the Navy during the Korean War and the Vietnam Conflict. He moved to the Magnolia area about 25 years ago from Cape Charles, Va. Mr. Maple was a member of the American Legion Post 3 in Milford the U.S. Navy Fleet Reserve.
He served 20 years in Civil Service. He developed and owned a landscaping service where he worked until his retirement in 1994.
He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Faye M. Maple; two sons, Christopher J. Maple and his wife Colette, of New Bern, N.C. and David F. Maple and his wife Shelby, Ocala, Fla.; a daughter, Elisa A. Maple of Pueblo, Colo.; a stepson, John M. West of Rehoboth Beach; two stepdaughters, Lisa M. Davidson of Milton and Kathleen L. Shifflette of Dallas, Ga.; two sisters, Loretta Tarasewich of Clifton Park, N.Y. and Elsie Schneider of Brunswick, N.Y; one brother, Joey Maple of Mechanicsville, N.Y; six grandchildren, Shawn Moore, Kristin B.
