Bendix F. Christensen,
native of Denmark
Bendix F. Christensen, 79, of Atco, N.J., formerly of W. Berlin, N.J., and Lewes, died April 23, 2007.
Mr. Christensen was born in Denmark and moved to the United States in April 1955. He was an employee of Rohm & Haas Co. before his retirement in 1992. He was also a member of the Danish Brotherhood Lodge 172.
He was the beloved husband of the late Ruth (nee Slater) Christensen; loving father of Craig Christensen and his wife Patricia of Pascagoula, Miss., and Karen Millison and her husband William of Medford, N.J.; proud grandfather of Eric Christensen and Evan Millison; and step-grandfather of Heather, Trey and Emily Bolling. He was predeceased by his siblings, Folmer Christensen, Edmund Christensen, Modith Jensen, Ashbjorn Christensen and Kaj Christensen.

Mary Theresa Furey,

Mary Theresa McNulty Furey, 79, of Rehoboth Beach, passed away Monday, April 23, 2007, at home with her husband Joe and family at her side.
Theresa was born in Philadelphia, daughter of the late Joseph and Margaret McNulty. She was also preceded in death by siblings Anne, Thomas, John and Joan.
She was the beloved wife of 56 years to Joseph; loving mother of Patrice (Rick) Delargey, Kevin (Christele) Furey, Margaret Mary (Jeff) Ferguson, Thomas (Jeanne) Furey, Kathleen (Duke) Sheehan and Anthony (Katherine) Furey; grandmother of 18 grandchildren and one great-grandson. She will also be missed by many nieces and nephews.
Theresa, “Mom” and “Nana” was a woman full of life and energy. With accomplishments far too many to list, however, the most important of those was the raising of her six children with her husband and best friend, Joe, “Joey,” “Dad” and “Pop-Pop.” They have followed in her footsteps and have become wonderful people and parents. Nana was always excited to have the grandchildren around. Nana always found time to share her love for the arts with the grandchildren. Those moments will never be forgotten.
Theresa was very active in the local community, senior art class, member of the Rehoboth Beach YMCA where she was an aerobic mermaid, volunteer at New Life Thrift Store and St. Edmond’s Catholic Church activities.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Theresa’s viewing from 10 to 11:30 a.m., Friday, April 27, at St. Edmond’s Catholic Church, King Charles and Laurel streets, Rehoboth Beach, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m.

Hugh ‘Luke’ Marvel,

Hugh “Luke” Marvel, 62, of Port Orange, Fla., and formerly of Rehoboth Beach, died Sunday, April 15, 2007, at home.
He was born to Elizabeth Hall Marvel and Hugh Marvel March 7, 1945, in St. Joseph, Mo.
Luke worked for many years as vice president of sales in the manufactured housing business when living in Delaware. He later worked as a boat captain for a dredging company in Fort Meyers, Fla., before his final move to Port Orange.
Luke loved to travel, especially cruises, and to spend time walking on the beach with his basset hound “Bentley.” His other passions were art, music and time spent with friends.
Luke is survived by his longtime companion, Gail Bishop; three children, Sophia Marvel of Philadelphia, Pa., Jessica Marvel-Weichecki of Wilmington and Baxter Marvel of Seaford; two grandchildren, twins Luciana and Ludovic Weichecki of Wilmington.
He is also survived by his sisters, Sophie Amanda Marvel of Lewes and Melinda Marvel Martin of Rehoboth Beach, Claire Collier Hughes of Idlewilde, Calif., and his twin sister, Ann Allaire “Muff” Marvel of Ocean View; nieces Kimberly Allaire Burton of Lewes, Penelope Lehman Kinsey of Park Çity, Utah, and Ashley Pepper Martin of Rehoboth Beach; a nephew, John “Matt” Martin of Dewey Beach; a great-niece, Carolina Allaire “Khaki” Kinsey; and great-nephews Collier Alexander “Ketch” Kinsey and Luke William Burton.
A private family service will be held Tuesday, May 1, with the scattering of his ashes in the ocean. A celebration of life will be held that evening at 6 p.m., for family and friends at the home of Jeff and Lyn Alexander, 112 Via Duomo, New Smyrna Beach, Fla.

Edgar Mason Ashby,

Edgar Mason Ashby, 90, of Milton, passed away at home April 24, 2007, surrounded by his loving family.
Mason was born in Belington, W. Va., March 26, 1917.
Mr. Ashby began his career with Owens Illnois Glass Co., Fairmont, W. Va., and moved up through the ranks to eventually become general manager of the newly opened plant in North Bergen, N.J. He concluded his long career as an international consultant to those in the glass industry, based out of McMurray, Pa.
Mason was actively involved in the Methodist Church in a variety of roles wherever he lived. He was devoted to family and community service and was a past master in the Masons. During his high school career, he earned the Tri-State wrestling championship. He was selected as Man of the Year in Fairmont, W.Va. Mason loved fishing, hunting, boating and spending time with his four sons. Mr. Ashby exemplified the qualities of leadership, integrity and compassion. He had a great sense of humor and a postive outlook on life. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Evelyn; four sons, Edgar Mason Ashby Jr. and his wife Patty of Des Moines, Iowa, William Ashby of Harbeson, Robert Ashby and his wife Sandy of Newark and Richard Ashby of Milton. Also, he will be greatly missed by his grandchildren, Bethany Tavegia and her husband Tom; Joel Ashby and his wife Robin; Caroline Blakely and her husband Ladd; Brian, Lauren and Marc Ashby; and great-grandson, Jackson Tavegia.
Services were held in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, Milton, with interment in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Milton.

Robert Hayden Jr.,

Robert D. Hayden Jr., 59, of Milford, departed this life unexpectedly Friday, April 20, 2007, while attending the Carlisle Car Show in Carlisle, Pa.
Born Jan. 26, 1948, he was the son of Robert D. Hayden Sr. of Harrington and the late Patricia Phillips Hayden.
He was one of the best crane operators in the state and among the last of the drag-line operators. Mr. Hayden constructed local projects such as the Westend River Walk in Milford, Jefferson Bridge Road bridge over the Assawoman Canal outside of Bethany Beach, Wagamons Mill Pond Dam and spillway on Mulberry Street, Milton, as well as numerous other wooden bridges throughout the state. It is best said that he took pride in anything he did.
He enjoyed his 1989 Softtail Springer Harley Davidson motorcycle, his red Plymouth Prowler, and his 1936 antique Chevrolet pick-up which he restored, winning various awards at area and regional car shows.
After attending Milford High School, he served honorably in the U.S. Army and was decorated for serving our country valiantly in Vietnam.
Bobby particularly enjoyed the hours he volunteered to numerous charitable programs with ABATE of Kent County. For many years he helped organize bike shows, played softball, participated in road cleanup programs, collected for the Toys for Tots program, and assisted with the Home Run events for the Delaware Home and Hospital. He was also a member of the Bay Area Hot Rods, Harleys Owners Group and the Moose.
He is survived by his father, Robert D. Hayden Sr. of Harrington; his brother, John P. Hayden and his wife Judy of Harrington; four sisters, Patricia Campbell-White and her husband Donald White of Rehoboth Beach, Margaret P. Tice and her husband William of Harrington, Lisa V. Hayden of Lewes, and Frances Reed and her husband Robert of Bridgeville.
Mr. Hayden is also survived by two daughters, Jennifer Hayden of Harrington and Allison Hayden of Key Largo, Fla.; and three grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends who will all miss his wit and humor.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m., Saturday, April 28, at Epworth Methodist Cemetery, Henlopen Avenue, Rehoboth Beach, where biker and rider friends are asked to assemble outside the cemetery at 12:30 p.m..

The Rev. Ruth S. Morris,

The Rev. Ruth S. Morris, 86, of Laurel, went to be with her Lord and Savior Monday, April 23, 2007, in her home.
Ruth was born in Marcus Hook, Pa., daughter of the late Lemuel Webster and Alice (West) Savage.
She was ordained into the ministry Aug. 9, 1949, and provided a lifetime of faithful service with the Wesleyan Church for more than 40 years.
She was chosen Woman of the Year for Wesleyan Women International, 1994-95, and also served as district secretary of Delmarva for 21 years.
Ruth was a charter member of and provided pastoral care at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford, where she was installed Nov. 17, 1975.
In addition, she taught music lessons for more than 40 years.
Ruth was preceded in death by a daughter, Ruth Ann Pritchett; and a brother, William Savage.
She is survived by her husband the Rev. Joseph Reed Morris, whom she married Dec. 21, 1939; her brother-in-law, Thomas Redman Morris of Greensboro, Md.; her sisters, Kathryn E. Johnson of Cambridge, Md., and Mabel L. Huffman of Greenwood; a sister-in-law, Sarah Savage of Georgetown; two grandchildren, Timothy Morris Pritchett of Millsboro and Kathy Lucille Pritchett of Santa Fe, N.M.; four great-grandchildren; and a son-in-law, James O’Neal Pritchett of Milton.
Funeral services were held in Laurel Wesleyan Church, with interment in Laurel Hill Cemetery.

David A. Reichman, 70, of Whitehouse Beach, Millsboro, formerly of Conshohocken, Pa., passed away Saturday, April 21, 2007, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes.
David was a people person who made many friends while delivering bread for Stroehmann Bros. Bakery in the area of Bucks County, Pa., and while working at the Wawa in Millsboro.
He had a great love for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
David had a fondness for woodworking, fishing and riding his golf cart.
He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps after the Korean Conflict and was active in the American Legion Post 28, Longneck.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Leah (Little) Reichman.
He is survived by his children, Patricia Schultheiss and her husband Michael, Norman Clark and his wife Helen, Kimberly Ann Keinath and her husband the Rev. Thomas and Stephen H. Reichman and his wife Tracey; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and another great-grandchild on the way.
Services were held in Kirk & Nice Inc. Funeral Home, Plymouth Meeting, Pa., with interment in the George Washington Memorial Park.

Lauren M. McGee, 48, of New Castle, died tragically Thursday, April 19, 2007. An uncontrollable fire took her life in the home she loved.
Born in Wilmington Jan. 22, 1959, Lauren was a graduate of Delcastle High School and attended Goldey-Beacom College. She was currently employed as a senior legal secretary with the Delaware Department of Justice.
She was preceded in death by her father, Joseph J. Nedwick Jr.
She is survived by her husband, William McGee of Elsmere, Md.; two children, Rian McGee and her companion Zack Rose of Cleveland, OH, and Kevin McGee of New Castle and Elsmere, who survived the fire; mother and stepfather, Barbara A. Henderson Harkins and Frank Harkins of Rehoboth Beach; two sisters, Connie Thompson of Frederick, Md. and Barbara Moreno of Townsend; two aunts, Debra August and Dorothy Broadwater; an uncle, Jimmy Nedwick; three great-aunts; three nephews, Ian, John and Josh; two nieces, Erica and Kaitlynn; cousins; and many friends.
A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m., Wednesday, April 25, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Pkwy., New Castle, where friends may call after 5 p.m.
Lauren was an amazing woman whose outgoing, caring, strong and loyal personality will be missed by all.

Paul James “Gussy” McLaughlin Sr., 51, of Kennett Square, Pa., went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, April 19, 2007, at home surrounded by his loving family after a lengthy illness.
Along with his family, friends and extended church family, Gussy will be dearly missed by everyone. Gussy was born on Aug. 10, 1955, to Thomas M. McLaughlin and the late Geraldine D. McLaughlin.
He was a graduate of Kennett High School in 1973 and a 1975 graduate of Delaware Technical Institute. Paul was a very talented contract painter and his most recent position was with the Presbyterian Church of Kennett Square. Gussy had a very competitive personality and loved watching all sports events, especially the Eagles, Sixers, Phillies and Notre Dame. His most important love, though, was his family and the very special times he spent with all of them.
Gussy was predeceased by his mother, Geraldine Davidson McLaughlin and his sister, Mary Catherine Rhoades.
Gussy is survived by his wife, Kris; son, P.J.; and daughter, Megan. He is also survived by his father, Thomas Sr. of Kennett Square, Pa., and brother Mickey and wife Dee McLaughlin of Hockessin; his mother and father-in-law, Bob and Betty Prengle of Stuart, Fla.; brother-in-law, Mark and wife Diane Prengle of Bear; sister-in-law, Becky Sugrue and husband Paul of Stuart, Fla.; sister-in-law, Karen Shaud of Dewey Beach; his nieces, Colleen Riley, Kelly Ruiz, Erin McLaughlin, Jenna Prengle, Erin Sugrue and Ginger Shaud.
His memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, April 24, at the Presbyterian Church of Kennett Square located at 211 S. Broad St., Kennett Square. Family visitation will be held from 9:30 - 11 a.m. Interment will be private.

Sara A. Taylor

Sara A. Taylor, 94, of Milford, died Friday, April 20, 2007, at Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital, Milford.
Miss Taylor was born on Nov. 19, 1912, in Felton, daughter of the late Arthur M. and Helen (Franklin) Taylor. After graduating from college with a teaching degree, Sara decided it was not her true calling and enrolled in the Wilmington College Nurses Training School where she graduated as a registered nurse in 1935.
She was a veteran of the United States Army serving in France and England during World War II in the Nursing Corps.
She worked in a small medical unit in a Wilmington hospital after graduation as a head nurse for six years and then was employed for several years with the Delaware State Public Health Department in Dover.
Miss Taylor then joined the U.S. Army where she completed an Army nurses training school specializing in war injuries and spent the next 11 months in service to her country overseas. Upon returning home, she accepted a nursing position with Wilmington Hospital in 1951 and remained there until retiring in 1973.
After returning to Milford, Sara spent several years as a nurse with Milford Memorial Hospital.
Miss Taylor enjoyed birds and nature and always spoke passionately of her experiences and the great rewards associated with them in her years of nursing.
She was a member of the Avenue United Methodist Church in Milford and the Mary Circle there.
In addition to her parents, Miss Taylor was preceded in death by two brothers, William A. Taylor and G. Franklin Taylor.
She is survived by two nieces, Christine T. Chappelle of Middletown and Nancy Poinsett of Lewes; and a nephew, John W. Taylor of Swansboro, N.C.
Services were held at Rogers Funeral Home, Milford. Burial was held in the Hollywood Cemetery in Harrington.

Marjorie T. (Rudnik) Majewski, 84, of Milton and Boynton Beach, Fla., passed away peacefully at her daughter’s residence surrounded by her loved ones on Friday, April 20, 2007.
She was born June 10, 1922, in Friday, April 20, 2007.
Detroit, daughter of the late Walter and Julia (Wasielewski) Rudnik.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Majewski was preceded in death by her husband, Richard John Majewski in 1988.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda Marie Huerta and her husband, Dr. Sergio A. Huerta of Milton; three grandchildren, Daniel Richard Ruperto Huerta, Stephanie Anne Huerta and Michael Gregory Huerta, all of Milton; her sister, Lillian Smiley of New Baltimore, Mich.; her sister-in-law, Genevieve Cabaj of Sterling Heights, Mich.; and many nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews.

Virginia Dare M. Gibbs,

Virginia Dare Mackey Gibbs, 84, of Georgetown died Tuesday, April 17, 2007, at her residence of natural causes.
She was a member of the Watch God Move Christian Center in Bridgeville and for many years she was employed as a production worker at Cargill Inc., in Harbeson. This company was the former Paramount Poultry Co.
Mrs. Gibbs was inducted into Paramount’s 25-year club for having completed 25 years of service prior to her retirement.
Mrs. Gibbs was a senior companion for the First State Community Action Program in Georgetown and through this program she provided home care assistance services to senior citizens within their own homes.
Mrs. Gibbs was a senior citizen who kept busy. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, and fellowshipping with family and friends.
She was especially fond of family “fish fries” and for this she had earned the honor of being organizer, chef and supervisor.
She dedicated many years to feeding her neighbors and community members. In 1989, she was recognized by Mayor Bob Rickards and the town of Georgetown for her dedication and perseverance in developing and carrying out this project year after year.
This was an event that began with Mrs. Gibbs feeding approximately 50 persons, and at the last dinner she hosted, there were at least 500 in attendance. No one was ever turned away, and no one ever left hungry.
In addition to her parents, Preston and Jane Mackey, Mrs. Gibbs was preceded in death by her husband, Nathaniel Gibbs Sr.; two daughters, Thelma Gibbs and Geraldine Gibbs; and a son, Thomas Gibbs.
She is survived by four sons, Nathaniel “Bone” Sr. and his wife Christina Gibbs of Dover, Harry “Little Jack” and his wife, Gwendolyn Gibbs of Harbeson, Charles and his wife Velma Gibbs of Sharptown and Matthew Gibbs of Georgetown; one daughter, Nancy Lee Gibbs of Georgetown; two brothers, Gilbert and his wife Estella Mackey and William and his wife Shirley Mackey of Millsboro; 28 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; one godchild, Smithie James of Harrington; a special and devoted friend throughout many years, Hilda Applewhite; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services will be held Saturday, April 28, at the Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Engelhard, N.C. Interment will be in the Mackey Family Cemetery in Engelhard, N.C.

In addition to his parents, baby Dustin is survived by his sister Amber Marie Hennessy; paternal grandparents Shirley (Downs) and the late Melvin Hennessy of Lewes; his maternal grandparents, Peter R. Sr. and Dianne Dirks of Lewes; and his maternal great-grandmother, Ruth K. Henry of Lewes.

Juno R. Ross, 83, of Rehoboth Beach and formerly of Roselle Park, N.J., passed away Thursday, April 12, 2007, at Thomas Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia, Pa.
Mrs. Ross was born June 6, 1923, in Newark, N.J., daughter of the late George and Barbara (Gieger) Pallitto.
Mrs. Ross was a member of the Henlopen Senior Center and the Lewes Senior Center. She volunteered at Brandywine Assisted Living in Rehoboth. She attended St. Edmond’s Catholic Church. She enjoyed playing cards and going to casinos.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert T. Ross.
She is survived by her daughter Christine Mazur of Hackettstown, N.J.; sons Richard P. Beel of Roselle Park, N.J. and Gabby Beel of Rehoboth Beach; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Tuesday, April 24, at St. Joseph The Carpenter Catholic Church, Roselle, N.J.

Paul Hudson, 73, of Millsboro, passed away peacefully at home with his family on Sunday, April 15, 2007.
Mr. Hudson was son of the late Harlie W. and Edna M. Hudson of Millsboro. He graduated from Millsboro High School and retired in 1996 after 33 years with Suburban Propane/Collins & Ryan.
He enjoyed golfing, bowling, horseback riding with his grand-daughters and stock car racing with his grandson. His greatest joy was just spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Timothy Hudson, Osborne Hudson, Preston Hudson and Samuel Hudson. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Phyllis Annie Rudisill-Hudson; two daughters, Pamela Hudson Busby of Bridgeville; and Suzanne Lingo and her husband Donald C. Lingo Sr. of Millsboro; three grandchildren, Donald C. Lingo Jr., Heidi S. Lingo and Jaime L. Busby; a great-grandson, Donald C. Lingo III; two sisters, Ruth Ayres of Lewes and Lois White of Rehoboth; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held at 7 p.m., Tuesday, April 24, at Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington St., Millsboro, where friends may call from 6 to 7 p.m.

Royce F. Stafford Sr.,

Royce Franklin Stafford Sr., 71, of Lewes, died Saturday, April 21, 2007, at Harrison House in Georgetown.
Mr. Stafford was born May 22, 1935, in Flintstone, Md., son of the late Charles A. and Evelyn Drake Stafford.
He was a veteran of the United States Army.
He was employed for 35 years in the telephone industry starting with Diamond State Telephone, which later became Bell Atlantic and is now Verizon, holding various positions, lastly as an installer. He retired in 1995.
Mr. Stafford loved to be around the ocean and enjoyed fishing and boating.
He held a professional clamming license and made fishing nets by hand.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 17 in Lewes and a member of AMVETS Post 2 in Millsboro.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Stafford was preceded in death by his first wife, Rose Marie Stafford; and a brother, Paul M. Stafford.

Jr. and Lisa Stafford of Atlantic, Va., and Michel and Sheila Clough of Harrington; six daughters and three sons-in-law, Robin and Rob Brown of Dover, Roxanne Ellers of Newark, Romane and David Creed of Angola, Sandra Bauer of Milford, Lori Clough of Frederica and Melissa and Mark Wilson of Clayton; a brother and sister-in-law, Charles W. and Sylvia Stafford of Middletown; and 16 grandchildren.

Rita Suarez, of Milton, passed away Sunday, April 22, 2007, at her home in Milton, surrounded by her loving family.
Rita was born in Havana, Cuba, daughter of the late Jose and Margarita de la Pezuela Alicot. In addition to her parents, Rita is preceded in death by her husband of 37 years: Fernando Suarez; and a son, Humberto Suarez.
A wonderful homemaker, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Rita will be deeply and sadly missed by her family that adored her.
She leaves behind a daughter, Gladys Suarez; a son and daughter-in-law, Jorge and Angela Suarez; two granddaughters, Liliana Suarez and Angela Suarez; and five great-grandchildren: Elliot, Evan and Patrick Flaharty, Sara and Isabella Feraca.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, April 24, in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal St., Milton, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.

John “Jack” M. McCarty Sr., 80, of Lewes, passed away Tuesday, April 17, 2007, at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes.
Mr. McCarty was born May 16, 1926 in Philadelphia, Pa., son of the late Pleasant and Mildred Palmer McCarty.
Mr. McCarty moved to Lewes as a young child and never left the area. He was employed by the Lewes Board of Public Works for 20 years. He and his wife then owned and operated Mac’s Bait & Tackle shop in Dewey Beach for 25 years.
Mac loved fishing and reading, especially horror and mystery novels.
He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of Jefferson Lodge, Lewes. He had served in the Merchant Marine. He was a devoted husband and he loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two sons, Patrick J. McCarty in 2001, and Richard Alan McCarty in 2005.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Beverly Howarth McCarty; two sons, John M. “Jack” McCarty Jr. and Michael L. McCarty, both of Lewes; his daughter-in-law, Carlie McCarty of Lewes; eight grandchildren, Shane McCarty and his wife Brenda, Tracey McCabe and her husband Clarke, Michelle Calvello and her husband Andy, John McCarty III, Jan Ezell and her husband Bryson, Jamie Johnson and her husband Bob, Ragen McCarty, and Pleasant J. McCarty; 10 great-grandchildren; his sister and brother-in-law, Jeanette and Donald Travis of Rehoboth Beach; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, April 23, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Hwy., Lewes, with the Rev. Jeffrey Ross officiating. Josephine Wilson Hawes, 96, lifelong resident of Georgetown, passed away Monday, April 16, 2007, at Green Valley Terrace in Millsboro.
Josephine was born in Georgetown, daughter of the late Charles W. and Annie Hitchens Wilson. She was a homemaker and had been an active member of Milton Wesleyan Church.
In addition to her parents, Josephine was preceded in death by her husband, Valentine B. Hawes, in 1998.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews; and Catherine Noto Scrivener, to whom, at a young age, she opened her home.

Edward D. Carucci, 68 of Wilmington, passed away Monday, April 16, leaving this mortal life for a better one free of the pain of cancer.
Mr. Carucci was born in Wilmington, July, 3, 1938, son of the late Dominic and Edith Carucci.
A member of St. Hedwig Catholic Church and Cement Masons Local 36, Eddie showed to all who knew him what an enduring spirit was. He loved golf and horse racing. He was known as the dictator of golf at Oak Hills Golf Club in Springhill, Fla., where Eddie and his wife, Diane, resided for 15 years until moving back to Delaware in 1993. Eddie was a respected horse handicapper and enjoyed his morning hours with friends at Delaware Park, studying the racing news and skillfully selecting the day’s winners.
Mr. Carucci is survived by his endearing wife of 46 years, Diane Glowiak Carucci; sons, Dominick and wife Antoinette, and Michael; daughter, Caroline; granddaughters, Victoria, Gillian, Elisia and Madalyne; brother, Thomas and wife Phyllis of Murrells Inlet, S.C.; sisters, Anne Marie Lano and Joanne Ferrante and her husband Joseph of Thorofare, N.J.; brother-in-law, Henry Glowiak of Lewes; sister-in-law Geraldine Lunger and her husband David of Fairville, Pa.; and 11 nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Hedwig Church in Wilmington.

Thelma L. Sharp, 87, of Milton, died Monday, April 16, 2007 at Bayhealth/Milford Memorial Hospital in Milford.
Thelma was born in Milton, to the late Walter H. and Bertha Walls Lank.
She graduated from Lewes High School in 1937 and Goldey Beacom, School of Business in 1939.
She was an insurance investigator for the state of Delaware, retiring in 1989.
She was a member of Goshen U.M. Church in Milton, as well as treasurer for the United Methodist Women and Building Fund and a member of the trustees-at-large.
Other memberships include the Milton Century Club, Federation of Women and she was also involved in 4-H. She enjoyed gardening and traveling.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, W. Paynter Sharp Sr. in 1991.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jane Lynn and Milton Carey; two sons and daughters-in-law, William P. Jr. and Joan Sharp and Henry A. and Deborah Sharp, all of Milton; seven grandchildren, Christine Beck and her husband Stephen, William Brian Sharp and his fiancée Sarah Herzig, Stephen Carey and his friend Krista Williams, Angela Carey and her friend, James Jones, Joshua Sharp, Nicholas Sharp and Dylan Sharp; three great-grandchildren, Daniel Beck, Andrew Beck and Leonard “Lenny” Williams.

Elizabeth P. Keen, 90, passed away Sunday, April 15, 2007 at Harbour Health Care Center in Lewes.
Born on January 30, 1917 on a farm near Middletown, she was the daughter of the late John Elmer and Ethel (Cochran) Price.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Milton C. Keen in 1968.
She is survived by two daughters, Diane Hutchison and her husband Carey of Brentwood, Calif., and Debbie Marsch and her husband Leonard of Lewes; a son, Laurence L. Keen and his wife Sharon of West Grove, Pa.; a sister, Anna Ray Price of Middletown; a granddaughter, Beth Ann Hutchison-Lopez and her husband Ed of Brentwood, Calif.; and seven grandsons, Don Hutchison of Mundelein, Ill,. Laurence Hutchison of Cloverdale, Calif., Dan Keen of Lothian, Md., David Keen of Cochranville, Pa., L. Lee Keen of Shadyside, Md., Chatham Marsch and Richard Marsch of Lewes. She was also blessed with six great-grandsons and four great-granddaughters.

Ellen V. Dunkes, 100, died Thursday, April 5, 2007, in Lewes Convalescent Center, Lewes.
Mrs. Dunkes was the oldest of six children of the late Charles and Mary Thompson. She was married in 1934 to George Dunkes, who died in 1996.
Mrs. Dunkes lived in Baltimore, Md. her entire life until moving to Brandywine Assisted Living in Lewes in 2000. She graduated from Mt. St. Agnes High School in Baltimore in 1928. Mrs. Dunkes was active in the Woodlawn Garden Club and the Sodality of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Woodlawn for many years.
She is survived by her sons, George Thompson Dunkes and his wife Dawn of Bel Air, Md. and Charles Michael Dunkes and his wife Joann of Rehoboth Beach; three grandchildren, Kerin Magill of Ocean View, Christopher Dunkes of Bel Air, Md. and Tom Dunkes of Granville, Ohio; eight great-grandchildren, Brittany, Bryce and Bethany Dunkes of Bel Air, Md., Kelsey and Nathaniel Magill of Ocean View, Del. and Sophia, Emma and Liam Dunkes of Granville, Ohio; as well as many nieces and nephews including Suzanne Romersa of Dagsboro and Paul Thompson and wife Mary of Bethany Beach and Baltimore, Md.

Charles E. Dismuke, 57, of Frankford, died Saturday, April 14, 2007, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, Md.
Mr. Dismuke was born July 7, 1949, to the late Charles and Geraldine Dismuke in Selbyville.
He was educated in the public schools of Delaware, graduating from Selbyville High School in 1967. During his life, Charles embarked on several careers, all of which were successful. He served in the U.S. Army and the Delaware National Guard. He was a custodian, car salesman, Delaware state trooper, and most recently district manager with United Insurance Company. He was with United Insurance Company for 25 years.
Charles enjoyed his motorcycle and took a leadership role in keeping the club together. He was an avid photographer both professionally and for pleasure. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially his precious granddaughters affectionately known as “Charlie’s Angels.”
He was preceded in death by a younger brother, Gerald Dismuke. Charles is survived by his devoted wife of 30 years, Andrea, two daughters, Quandora Dismuke of Selbyville and Katrina Hooper and a special son-in-law James Hooper of Virginia Beach, Va.; three granddaughters, Noel Dismuke, Jade and Kennedy Hoope; his stepmother, Catherine Dismuke of Salisbury, Md.; two sisters, Delores Justice of Dover and Cynthia Gibson and her husband Gerald of Millsboro; four brothers, Gordon Dismuke and his wife Bernice of Augusta, Ga., Donald Dismuke of Newport News, Va., Duane Dismuke and wife Francita of Frankford and Adrian Dismuke of Millsboro; his mother-in-law, Elizabeth Hall of Millsboro, and a host of favorite nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, friends and their families and special friends, the Black Knights Motorcycle Club.

F. Christiana (Wyatt) Murray, of Smyrna, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, April 15, 2007.
Christiana was born on December 22, 1934. She was the oldest child of the late Robert S. and Florence C. Murray.
Christiana was a graduate of Middletown High School and attended Delaware Technical Community College.
She worked for the DuPont Company before raising her family and was also a foster grandparent for the state of Delaware. She was also employed by Ichthyologic Associates and Letica in Middletown and retired from Schmittinger & Rodriquez law firm in Dover.
She was also a member of the Townsend Free Will Baptist Church. All who knew her will remember Christiana as a hard-working and loyal friend.
In addition to her parents, Christiana was preceded in death by her former husband John C. Wyatt Sr., her brother William J. Murray; and a granddaughter.
She is survived by five sons, Steven M. Wyatt and his wife Carrie, John C. Wyatt Jr. and wife Kay, all of Smyrna, Patrick M. Wyatt and wife Nancy of Clayton, David E. Wyatt of Townsend, and William W. Wyatt of Arizona; one daughter, Jacqueline C. Grau and her husband Duane of Smyrna; 13 grandchildren, two great-grandsons; four sisters, Carolyn M. Shaffner, Patricia A. Barcus and Sabina Moffitt all of Townsend, and Elizabeth Henderson of Camden; two brothers, R. Charles Murray of Milton and Bruce B. Murray and his wife Jane of Middletown; a sister-in -law, Shirley Murray; and a brother-in-law Wilson Barcus.

Betty J. Clarke,

Betty J. Clarke, 81, of Felton, died Sunday, April 15, 2007, in Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Clarke was born in Cresson, Pa., the third child of the late William Clifford and Molly I. (Sell) Miller.
She met her future husband, Thomas J. Clarke, when she was working at Squibb Pharmaceuticals in Trenton, N.J. They were married in her parent’s home in Harrington.
Mrs. Clarke’s husband was in the U.S. Army and she traveled with him when he was assigned to Japan, Alaska, New York and finally Delaware, where they settled down close to her parents and raised their family.
She started working for the civil service of the U.S. government at Dover Air Force Base in 1960 as a typist in the buyers’ section of the procurement office. In 1963 she left that position to be a homemaker. In 1966, she went back to work at Dover Air Force Base in the traffic management division as a claims examiner working until 1977, when she was transferred into the drafting division. In February 1980, Mrs. Clarke left the civil service to enjoy working with her husband, Thomas, raising horses on their farm. As the need for horses declined, Mrs. Clarke went back to work in traffic management in 1983, where she worked until she retired in November 1985.
In 1988 she worked for a period of time at the Modern Maturity Center, Dover, and in 1989 after her husband became ill, she wanted to work close to home so she worked for Simmons Cable, now Comcast Cable.
She was always active in some capacity in Asbury United Methodist Church, Harrington, having taught Sunday school and worked with her husband with the Continued from page 100
youth choir. In later years, few things gave her more pleasure than studying scriptures, being with her church family and watching harness racing on television.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Tom, in 2005.
She is survived by two daughters and two sons-in-law, Marianne and Paul Hayes of Lewes and Cynthia and Skip Thorn of Felton; and a son, Thomas David Clarke of Felton.
The family will visit with friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, April 21, in Asbury United Methodist Church, 200 Weiner Ave., Harrington, where a memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Doris Mae Webb Davis, 74, of Lewes, died Sunday, April 15, 2007, at Harbor Healthcare Center in Lewes, surrounded by her family. Doris was born July 4, 1932, in Rehoboth Beach, daughter of the late John H. and Ruth Maise Biederman Webb.
She was a 1949 graduate of Rehoboth High School.
Mrs. Davis was a homemaker. She loved egg crafting, needlepoint and crocheting.
She also enjoyed attending tournaments at Midway Slots in Harrington.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Janet Webb Tagtmeier, and her brother, Charles (Jay) Webb.
She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, James T. Davis of Lewes; three sons and their wives, Richard H. Ieppert and Susan Lodge Ieppert of Lewes, James T. Davis Jr. and Theresa A. Davis of Lewes, Todd W. Davis and Connie Davis of Salida, Colo.; two daughters, Joyce A. Pennucci and her husband Joseph of Milton and Kimberly Mae Davis Pezely of Lewes; two sisters, Kathleen Hall of Tampa, Fla., and Joan Martin of Lewes; 15 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was held in the chapel of the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery South in Millsboro.

John W. Whitty, 80, of Milton, died Friday, April 13, 2007, at his residence. Mr. Whitty was born in Hartford, Conn., son of the late John W. and Alice Wall Whitty. He was in the insurance industry all of his working life and was owner of the J.W. Whitty Insurance Agency in Connecticut for 45 years. He retired in 1997 and moved to Milton in September 2003. His son and son-in-law are the owners of Dynamic Mortgage in Rehoboth Beach. Mr. Whitty served in the U.S. Navy during WWII with the rank of machinist’s mate 3rd class.
He was a member of the Rotary Club and an avid golfer and reader.
Most dear to him were his loving wife and family. He is survived by his wife, Diane M. Lent Whitty; four daughters, Laura, Elizabeth, Diane Marie and Katie; six sons, David, Dennis, John, Stephen, Chris and Ray; one sister, Laura Connelly of Glastonbury, Conn.; two brothers, Tom Whitty of Sarasota, Fla., and Robert Whitty of West Yarmouth, Mass.; 21 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
No one could have loved his family more than Jack Whitty and no one was loved more in return.

Dolores B. Liggett, 76, of Lincoln, passed away Sunday, April 15, 2007, at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes.
Dolores was born Oct. 2, 1930, in Dayton, Ky., daughter of the late Joseph and Dorothy O’Keefe Brown.
Mrs. Liggett moved to Delaware in 1996 and enjoyed bowling and spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Cynthia L. Bruch in 2005; a sister, Vera Russell; and two grandchildren. Dolores is survived by her husband of 57 years, Ronald C. Liggett; her children, Timothy Liggett and wife Virginia of Clearwater, Fla., Michael Liggett and Linda Jones of Lincoln, Karen Liggett Burgess and husband David of Winchester, Va. and Phillip Liggett of Milton; a sister, Jane Fitzpatrick of Erlanger, Ky.; and seven grandchildren.

Joseph “Joe” Henry Bailey, 76, son of the late James Bailey and Maggie Ann Mitchell Bailey of Cape Charles, Va., died Friday, April 13, 2007, at his home in Millsboro, surrounded by his family. He was born April 7, 1931, and was unable to finish his education because of the need to help out the family. Even though he had minimal education, he was still able to become a successful lawn care business owner for over 31 years and a supervisor at Townsend’s Inc. for 20 years.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 27 years, Emma Margaret “Debbie” Thompson Bailey; and two sisters, Betty Bailey of Pennsylvania and Maggie Hall of Seaford.
He leaves four daughters, Melissa Bailey Bridell and her husband Dortan, whom he lived with, Melinda Bailey Wright and her husband Carl, Celina Snead and her devoted friend Lennel Ayers, Linda Hatchett and her husband Anthony; a brother, Clarence Bailey; a sister, Connie Robinson of Pennsylvania; 11 grandchildren, Tylissa, Debra, Debra, Lesslie, Aubre, Star, Amber, Christin, Carla, Deja, and Robert; seven great-grandchildren, Shawn, Jaylyn, Michael, Christian, Jamie, Curtis and Aniles; and two nieces’ husbands, Kenneth Frazier and Curtis Fuhr. He also leaves behind two dear friends, James “Chief” Chandler and Bartola “BigLoader” Gray.

Willard M. Marvel,

Willard Madison Marvel, of Cary, N.C., formerly of Milton, passed away Easter Sunday, April 8, 2007, at Rex Hospital in Raleigh, N.C., after a long and courageous battle with amyotrophic lateral slcerosis, also known as ALS or Lou Gehrig’s Disease. Will was born in Milton, the son of Ruth Reed Marvel and the late Harry W. Marvel.
He served in the U.S. Air Force for eight years before completing a degree in computer science. He was a manager in the technical support division of Perdue Inc. for the last 17 years of his career.
Will had a passion for cycling, and before his illness he and his wife spent many hours riding their tandem bicycle.
Will was an active member of Genesis United Methodist Church in Cary, N.C.. He was a devoted son, father and friend.
In addition to his mother, Will is survived by his cherished wife, Carol Adams; two children, Sharon Johnston and Jeffrey Marvel and his wife Blair; two stepchildren, Kimberly Small and Clayton Small and his wife Ann; two brothers and sisters-in-law, James and Marion Marvel and Phillip and Beverly Marvel; a sister and brother- in-law, Amy and Carlton Smith; five nieces, Bethany Marvel, Courtney Marvel, Katie Marvel, Kelly Marvel and Natalie Marvel; and a nephew, Jake Smith. A tireless champion for quality living with ALS, Will inspired all who knew him. He was a role model for many affected by this terrible disease and kept his wry sense of humor. He spent much of his time involved with ALS support groups, planning fundraisers and participating in ALS Advocacy Days in Washington, D.C.
Although Will’s presence will always be with us, he will be greatly missed. A celebration of Will’s life will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, April 21, in Grace Church, 514 Union St., Milton. James Bohan, 78, of Lewes, died Wednesday, April 11, 2007, at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes.
Mr. Bohan was born in Prospect Park, Pa. Nov. 2, 1928, son of the late Joseph and Hulda White Bohan. He had been employed as a mail carrier by the U.S. Postal Service for many years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during World War II in the area of atomic bomb testing. Mr. Bohan was a member of American Legion Post 28, Millsboro, the VFW Post 7447 of Rehoboth Beach, The AMVETS and the Cape Henlopen Elks Lodge, both of Lewes. He visited these service clubs each day and the folks at these organizations were like a family to him. Mr. Bohan enjoyed life to the fullest. He loved to walk the Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk in the early morning. Mr. Bohan was predeceased by his wife Elizabeth K. Bohan, in 1999; three brothers, Thomas Bohan, William Bohan and Chuck Bohan; and one sister, Ruth Barker.
He is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews and many friends from the service clubs.

Doris Mae Webb Davis, 74, of Lewes, died Sunday, April 15, 2007, at Harbor Healthcare Center in Lewes, surrounded by her family.
Doris was born July 4, 1932, in Rehoboth Beach, daughter of the late John H. and Ruth Maise Biederman Webb.
She was a 1949 graduate of Rehoboth High School. Mrs. Davis was a homemaker. She loved egg crafting, needlepointing and crocheting. She also enjoyed attending tournaments at Midway Slots in Harrington. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Janet Webb Tagtmeier, and her brother, Charles (Jay) Webb.
She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, James T. Davis of Lewes; three sons and their wives, Richard H. Ieppert and Susan Lodge Ieppert of Lewes, James T. Davis Jr. and Theresa A. Davis of Lewes, Todd W. Davis and Connie Davis of Salida, Colo.; two daughters, Joyce A. Pennucci and her husband Joseph of Milton and Kimberly Mae Davis Pezely of Lewes; two sisters, Kathleen Hall of Tampa, Fla., and Joan Martin of Lewes; two grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, April 18, in the chapel of the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery South in Millsboro. A visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 18, at the chapel of Melson Funeral Services on Long Neck Road.

John W. Whitty, 80, of Milton, died Friday, April 13, 2007, at his residence. Mr. Whitty was born in Hartford, Conn., son of the late John W. and Alice Wall Whitty. He was in the insurance industry all of his working life and was owner of the J.W. Whitty Insurance Agency in Connecticut for 45 years. He retired in 1997 and moved to Milton in September 2003. His son and son-in-law are the owners of Dynamic Mortgage in Rehoboth Beach. Mr. Whitty served in the U.S. Navy during WWII with the rank of machinist’s mate 3rd class. He was a member of the Rotary Club and an avid golfer and reader.
Most dear to him were his loving wife and family. He is survived by his wife, Diane M. Lent Whitty; four daughters, Laura, Elizabeth, Diane Marie and Katie; six sons, David, Dennis, John, Stephen, Chris and Ray; one sister, Laura Connelly of Glastonbury, Conn.; two brothers, Tom Whitty of Sarasota, Fla., and Robert Whitty of West Yarmouth, Mass.; 21 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
No one could have loved his family more than Jack Whitty and no one was loved more in return.

Willard Madison Marvel, of Cary, N.C., formerly of Milton, passed away Easter Sunday, April 8, 2007, at Rex Hospital in Raleigh, N.C., after a long and courageous battle with amyotrophic lateral slcerosis, also known as ALS or Lou Gehrig’s Disease.
Will was born in Milton, the son of Ruth Reed Marvel and the late Harry W. Marvel. He served in the U.S. Air Force for eight years before completing a degree in computer science. He was a manager in the technical support division of Perdue Inc. for the last 17 years of his career. Will had a passion for cycling, and before his illness he and his wife spent many hours riding their tandem bicycle and planning vacations around cycling events with a wide circle of friends. Will was an active member of Genesis United Methodist Church in Cary, N.C., and loved his church family. He was a devoted son, father and friend. In addition to his mother, Will is survived by his cherished wife, Carol Adams; two children, Sharon Johnston and Jeffrey Marvel and his wife Blair; two stepchildren, Kimberly Small and Clayton Small and his wife Ann; two brothers and sisters-in-law, James and Marion Marvel and Phillip and Beverly Marvel; a sister and brother- in-law, Amy and Carlton Smith; five nieces, Bethany Marvel, Courtney Marvel, Katie Marvel, Kelly Marvel and Natalie Marvel; and a nephew, Jake Smith.

Barbara “Almeda” Isaacs Pepper passed away peacefully at home, Sunday, April 15, 2007. Almeda was the daughter of the late J. Howard Isaacs of Milford and the late Madalyn E. Swain Seeger of New Castle County. She was a graduate of Georgetown High School and graduated from Goldey Beacom in 1955. Almeda was a gifted homemaker and was devoted to raising her family and caring for others.
For over 25 years, she drove children to and from school for the Indian River School District, until she retired in the late 90s due to her declining health.
She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and Providence United Methodist Church, both in Georgetown.
She is survived by her husband of over 51 years, David Martin Pepper; a brother, John S. Isaacs of California; half sisters, Nancy Kimbro of Dover, Hilda Lankford and husband William of Milton and Karlyn Musante and husband Jim of Malibu, Calif.
She will be dearly missed by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her five little Peppers are M. Lee Pepper and his wife Peggy, D. Randy Pepper and his wife Mary-Beth, Connie A. Moore and her husband Dave, Beth P. Beck and her husband Jon and her estranged son, Howard I. Pepper.
Her grandchildren brought much joy to her world and they included Tyna Lynch and her husband Keith, David and Cody Pepper, Amanda Dorey, Melanie Moore, Benjamin Beck and Alec and Savannah Beck. She was blessed to have two great-granddaughters, Kelsey and Makayla Pepper-Lynch. Her entire family still resides within 10 miles of each other in Georgetown. Almeda also had two special friends she loved like family, Mary Louise Workman of Georgetown and Elma Parsons of Lincoln.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, April 19, in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market St., Georgetown, where friends may call after noon. Interment will be held at Union Cemetery, Georgetown.

William ‘Bill’ E. Wright,

William “Bill” E. Wright, 64, longtime resident of Dewey Beach and recently Kings Creek in Rehoboth Beach, passed away Monday, April 16, 2007, at his residence. Born Oct. 22, 1942, he was the son of Superior Court Judge Caleb and Katherine McAfee Wright.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Wright; and his three children, Andrew Wright, Joanna White and Tory Wright; his brothers, Thomas and Scott Wright; and sister, Victoria Wright; grandchildren Madison and Emily Wright, Caleb White and Eloise White-Ramon.
Bill graduated from the University of Delaware and obtained his doctor of law from the University of North Carolina.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and returned to work as a prosecutor in the Wilmington Attorney General’s Office. He was part of the law firm of Terry, Terry, Spence and Wright and later became a sole practitioner when partner Max Terry was appointed to the bench as a judge.
He practiced law locally and was the first town attorney for the Town of Dewey Beach when it was incorporated in 1981.
In addition to being active in local affairs, he is a past president of the Dewey Beach Lions Club and was the treasurer for the Bill Lee for Governor campaign.
Bill enjoyed boating, spending time with his wife Pat and their many friends.
He especially loved playing with his grandchildren and will be remembered for his humor and honesty. He will be missed by many.
A celebration of Bill’s life will be announced at a later date.

Pearl Holland Hood,

Pearl Ceresia Holland Hood, 95, of Lewes was born Oct. 26, 1911, daughter of Nehemiah and Minnie Holland. She departed this life Wednesday, April 11, 2007, in the Lewes Convalescent Center.
She was born in Pinetown. She attended school in Milton and then went to Delaware State College, Temple University, Rutgers University and the University of Delaware to obtain her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education.
Pearl married Grafton Hood in Jan. 1932, and they raised two children.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; a sister, Helene Ward; a brother, Abraham White; two grandsons, Brian Perry Sr. and Steven Hood; and a granddaughter, Stacie Hood.
Pearl was employed as a school teacher for more than 34 years. She taught school at Blackwater-Frankford, Phillip C. Showell in Selbyville, Milton Elementary, H.O.B. Elementary School in Milton and summer Head Start in Milford, and worked at the Stockley Center and Pressing Factory in Milton.
She dedicated her life to Christ at Burton Chapel A.M.E. Church and then moved to Bethel A.M.E. Church in Milton, where she remained faithful until the end. She was a member of the senior choir, stewardess board, steward board, trustee board and missionary society, past Y.P.D. director, past secretary of the official board of the church, past president of the lay organization - which she started at the church, past secretary of the quarterly conference, past chairman of the Delaware conference memorial committee and also sang in the Delaware conference choir.
Pearl was a member of the Eastern Star and the AKA Sorority. She was also a member of the National Council of Negro Women, Sussex County Arts Council, Lewes Senior Center and Slaughter Neck CHEER Center. She attended the Gull House in Rehoboth Beach and was a volunteer at the Lewes Convalescent Center and Harbor Health Care. She also was a board member of the former Milton Day Care Center.
During her last couple of years, she became a Cape Henlopen boys varsity basketball fan. She enjoyed going to all the games, both home and away, and called the players “her boys.” She was always proud of them, regardless of the outcome of the games.
Pearl leaves to cherish her memorable life two children, Thomas Hood of Coatesville, Pa., and Pearl Cannon of Milton; five grandchildren, Sharon Green (AJ), Thomas Hood Jr., Sheila Hood, Sabrina Copeland (David) and Ceresia Cannon (Thomas Messick); 15 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two nephews, Ralph Holland and Herman White; five nieces, Naomi Perry, Eleanor Reed, Ruth Turner, Grace Thomas and Thelma White; a brother-in-law, James Hood; and a host of other family members.
She will be sadly missed by many treasured family members and friends.
Services will be 1 p.m., Tuesday, April 17, in the Bethel A.M.E. Church, Mulberry Street, Milton, where friends may call two hours before the service. The Rev. Lamont Harmon will officiate.

Faye Etta (Baker) Koyanagi, 69, of Millsboro and formerly of Laurel, was called by the Lord and entered the gates of heaven Friday, April 13, 2007, at her son’s home in Lewes, surrounded by her family. Mrs. Koyanagi was born July 29, 1937, in Clintwood, Va., daughter of the late John and Cinda (Sexton) Baker.
Faye was a loving mother and grandmother. She was also a seamstress who loved collecting antiques. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Beaulah Singleton of Granville, Ohio, Corina Walters of Bel Air, Md., and Billie Jean Sockriter of Harbeson; two brothers, Fred Baker of Greenwood and Joseph Baker of Georgetown.
She is survived by a daughter, Jill Smith and husband Donald of Millsboro; three sons, Wendell Koyanagi and wife Cathy of Sharptown, Md., Keith Koyanagi of Laurel and Brian Koyanagi and wife Mary of Lewes; six grandchildren Keith and Haley Koyanagi, Hayden and Krista Smith, Lyndsey Koyanagi and Jon Morris; and her furry companions Biff, Rue and Bob. Faye is also survived by two sisters, Rosella O’Day of Georgetown and Mary Price of Havre de Grace, Md.; and a brother, Charles “Eddie” Baker of Dagsboro.

Dewitt Wesley Platt, 71, of Dagsboro, died Thursday, April 12, 2007, at his residence, after a courageous three-year battle with leukemia. He was surrounded by his loving wife, children and grandchildren.
Mr. Platt was born July 24, 1935, in Harrisburg, Pa., son of Mildred (Stephens) Platt and the late DeWitt Oakum.
After graduating from the University of Maryland, Dewitt entered the U.S. Navy, retiring as a Navy commander. Dewitt settled in Kensington, Md., and worked for the Defense Intelligence Agency and retired as the senior analyst for Russian affairs.
He moved with his wife to Stowe, Vt., where he enjoyed skiing and was president of the Stowe Vermont Rotary Club. After 10 years he returned to the Eastern Shore, residing in Dagsboro.
He is survived by his loving wife, Grace; their three children, Karen Geppert, Stephen Platt and Jacqueline Abbott; and nine grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Tuesday, April 17, at St. Edmond’s Catholic Church, King Charles and Laurel Street, Rehoboth Beach, with Rev. Raymond Forrester as celebrant. Burial with full military honors will follow at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro.

Carolyn M. DiMaio, 63, of Wilmington, passed away at her home Wednesday, April 11, 2007.
Born in Wilmington, Ms. DiMaio was the daughter of Doris (Burns) DiMaio and the late Anthony B. DiMaio.
She worked as a secretary for the Hercules Company for 40 years until her retirement in 2001. She was a parishioner of St. Matthew’s Church. She also was a member of the first graduating class at Dickinson High School in 1961.
In addition to her mother, Carolyn will be dearly missed by her daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and Greg Griffin of Bear; her grandchildren, Kyle and Samantha; her sister, Margaret Ziegler; and her brothers, Thomas DiMaio of Wilmington and Richard DiMaio of Lewes.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Matthew’s Church, Woodcrest, with interment in Cathedral Cemetery, Wilmington.

John J. Renner, 87, of Dewey Beach and Arlington, Va., passed away peacefully at his Delaware home from multiple myeloma Thursday, April 12, 2007.
John was born November 25, 1919, in Dorchester, Mass., son of the late William and Mary (McGue) Renner.
Mr. Renner graduated from the Boston Latin School and MIT. He was president and founder of Advanced Technology Systems in Arlington, Va. from 1969-1989.
Mr. Renner was a member of St. Edmond’s Catholic Church , Rehoboth Beach, and also attended St. Ann’’s Catholic Churchin Bethany Beach, where he worked in the bookstore. He was an Honorary Knight of the Knights of Columbus in Arlington, Va., and was a founding member of the IEEE Club (the Old Crows) in Washington, D.C.
He was a World War II veteran, serving in the Army, with responsibility for setting up and maintaining communications on New Caledonia.
Capt. John Renner received a Bronze Star for his meritorious service in New Caledonia while serving on a communications task force.
He was an active member of American Legion Post 28 and VFW Post 7447.
He was a beloved volunteer at the Beach House in Lewes. Mr. Renner also arranged for the set-up of communications in Lake Placid, N.Y., for the Winter Olympics.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 43 years, Kathleen Renner; a brother, Gerard Renner; and a sister, Margaret O’Connell.
He is survived by his son, John Joseph Renner II and his wife, Joan of Alexandria; five daughters, Kathleen Alicia Mirro and her husband Danny of Arlington, Va., Mary Beth Kurpiel and her husband Tom of Bensenville, Ill., Genie Herwig and her husband, David of Frankford, Rosalie Barnes and her husband Jim of Arlington and Patricia Donnelly of Camden, S.C.; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a goddaughter, Maryanne Galante of Massachusetts; and a brother, William Renner of Baltimore, Md.

Anthony R. Rousak Jr., 93, of Rehoboth Beach and formerly of Leeperville, Pa., passed away Thursday, April 12, 2007, at home, surrounded by his loving family.
Tony was born in Philadelphia, Pa., June 15, 1913, the son of the late Anton and Anna Kazimrova Rysak.
Tony retired from Sun Shipyard in Chester, Pa.
He also owned and operated the Mohawk Grill and Tony’s Tavern. He was a loving and dedicated family man.
Mr. Rousak was preceded in death by his loving wife, Lottie Rousak, who passed away in 1982.
He will be dearly missed by his children, Barbara Sindyla and her husband, Robert, Anthony Rousak III and his wife, Carla, Janice Stress and her companion, John Marshall, Lois Lax and her late husband, Steven Lax, Ron Rousak and his wife Pam, and Albert Rousak; nine grandchildren, Melanie Rolsen and her husband Tim, John Sindyla, and his wife, Jennifer, Heather Sindyla Anthony Rousak IV, Tricia Stress, Jennifer, Aubrey, and Stephanie Lax, and Jamie Rousak; four great-grandchildren, Sydney, Jacob, Tyler and Trevor; and his brother, Al Rousak of Cape May, N.J.

Leonard “Len” Leschinsky, 81, of Millsboro, formerly of Pittsburgh, Pa., passed away Thursday, April 12, 2007, at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes.
He was born in Tamaqua, Pa., son of the late Anthony and Mary Leschinsky.
Len retired as the vice president of Midvale Heppenstall Steel in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. He was also an accountant at the Stull Company. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Navy. He was a member of Mary Mother of Peace Catholic Church and the Coast Guard Auxiliary. He was also a regular volunteer at the Blood Bank. Mr. Leschinsky also enjoyed fishing, playing poker and bowling.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Leschinsky in 1986.
He is survived by his children, Anne Marie Ridel and husband Bill of Swedesboro, N.J., Leonard Leschinsky and wife Diann of Boothwyn, Pa., Ellen Sargent and husband Daniel of Sellersville, Pa., Beth Henry and husband David of Penn Hills, Pa., and Mike Leschinsky and wife Charlene of San Antonio, Texas; his loving companion of 10 years, Florence Holler of Millsboro; a sister, Violet Winslow and husband William of Yardley, Pa.; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

WWII hero
Lee E. Daly Jr., 88, of Lewes, formerly of McLean, Va., passed away Saturday, April 7, 2007, at his residence.
Mr. Daly was born March 9, 1919, in Baltimore, Md., son of the late Lee Eugene and Marie Garrity Daly.
He was a decorated hero in World War II, serving in the 28th Division. He was awarded a Purple Heart and a bronze star.
Lee was a passionate sportsman and an avid golfer. He was a member of the Rehoboth Beach Yacht & Country Club. He and his wife moved to Sussex County in 1979. He was a member of St. Edmond’s Catholic Church where he served as an usher.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Daly was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rosemarie H. Daly in 2002; and his daugther, Mary Lee Daly Jones.
He is survived by two daughters, Rosemarie Daly King and Adele Carroll Daly Guiliano; a sister, Marianna Daly Edmonds; a granddaughter, Kathleen Kerry McEvily-Davenport; a grandson, Keegan Michael Jones; and a great-granddaughter, Julia Paige Davenport.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Edmond’s Catholic Church, King Charles Avenue and Laurel Street, Rehoboth Beach, at noon, Saturday, April 21. Interment will be private.

Adele R. Gibbs, 84, of Dover, passed away Saturday, April 7, 2007, in Westminster Nursing Home, Dover, following a brief illness.
Mrs. Gibbs was born March 3, 1923, in Rahway, N.J., daughter of the late John and Anna Hassell.
She was employed by the Delaware State Police, retiring Feb. 1, 2007, with more than 20 years of service.
Prior to that, she was employed by Bell Telephone in Ocean City, Md. and Dover.
She and her late husband, Kendall, owned and operated the Gibbs Bus Co. in Dover and Middletown for many years.
Mrs. Gibbs was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Dover and a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She served as a Girl Scout leader, a member of the Girl Scout Council and as a volunteer at numerous summer camps.
Adele, a loving wife and mother, was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers; and her husband, Kendall.
She is survived by her daughter, Barbara G. Deakyne of Rehoboth Beach.
Services were held in First Baptist Church, Dover.

Carmela Trocolli Impriano, 84, of Lewes. died Monday, April 9, 2007, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes.
Mrs. Impriano was born in Philadelphia, daughter of the late Angelo and Margaret Fratutono Trocolli.
She lived in Philadelphia for many years where she was employed as a seamstress in the clothing manufacturing business.
Mrs. Impriano moved to the beach area about five years ago. She was a member of St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church.
She was predeceased by her husband Anthony Impriano in 1971.
She is survived by a daughter and a son-in-law, Antoinette R. and Joseph Signorelli of Lewes; three sons, Daniel R. Olivia Draper “Candy” Hudson, 76, of Harbeson, died Monday, April 9, 2007, at Bayhealth/Milford Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Hudson was born in Milton, the daughter of the late Grover C. and Ella Brittingham Draper.
Along with her husband, she owned & operated Douglas C. Hudson Construction Co. and several other businesses throughout the years.
She was a member of the Harbeson U.M. Church, the United Methodist Women, the church choir, Order of the Eastern Star in Georgetown, Coolspring Couples Club and served as secretary for the Harbeson Cemetery Corp. She was a volunteer for Coastal Hospice and numerous other organizations. Candy was treasurer of the Harbeson Extension Homemakers Club and held many other offices. As a member of the Delaware Assoc. for Family Community Education, she was the past state president, newsletter editor/publisher and served on the national nominations board. She was on the advisory board for the research and education center of the University of Delaware in Georgetown.
She enjoyed spending many summers at Broadkill Beach.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas C. Hudson, in 1986 and three sisters, Grace Millman, Clara Robinson and Esther Morris.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law Wayne D. and Bonnie Hudson of Milton and Wade R. Sr. and Jackie Hudson of Milton; a daughter and son-in-law, Jacqueline H. and Ray McCabe of Berlin, Md.; fiancé Gene E. Melvin of Harbeson; a sister, Ruth Tyndall of Millsboro; four grandchildren, Wade R. “Buddy” Hudson Jr., Heather H. Leonard and her husband Charles, Holly L. Hudson and her fiancé Robert Read, Draper R. McCabe and his fiancé Sarah Massey; step-grandchildren, Lisa Garrison and Allen Callaway; step-great-grandchildren, Noah Garrison and Liam Garrison. Aunt Candy was very special to all of her nieces and nephews.

Henry G. Krause, 74, of Millsboro, died Tuesday, April 10, 2007, at Beebe Medical Center, Lewes.
Born in Wilmington, he was the son of the late Mark R. and Mary Thompson Krause.
Mr. Krause was a pipe fitter with Local 80 and served as a pipe fitter for 50 years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and served on the USS Randolf during the Korean War.
He was a member of American Legion Post 24 and a member of the Armstrong Masonic Lodge No. 26 in Newport.
He was devoted to his family and loved his grandchildren and was an avid Eagles fan. He loved dogs and was a good man.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mildred L. Krause; two sons, Keith B. Krause and his wife Crystal of Millsboro and Robert K. Krause of Charleston, S.C.; a daughter, Mary Lou Krause of Millsboro; sisters Mary Lou Bach and her husband Jack and Kitty Ann Toy; a sister-in-law, Ruth Krause; six grandchildren, Steph, Alicia, Karen, Bob, Sean and Cameron; four great-grandchildren, Ashley, Lillian, Haley and Taylor; many nieces and nephews; and his loving dogs, Bubba and Ginger.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Mark Krause, in 2002.

Mr. Beran was born in Baltimore, the son of the late John Beran and Mary Weir Beran.
John was proud to serve his country in the U.S. Army in Vietnam. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 7447 and a member of Cape Henlopen Elks Post 2540 and American Legion Post 17.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, John Beran Jr.; and his uncle, Frank Weir of Rehoboth Beach.
He is survived by his loving wife, Marie; five children and 16 grandchildren.

Thelma E. (Denn) Josephson, 89, of Rehoboth Beach, died Monday, April 9, 2007, at her residence.
Mrs. Josephson was born in Wilmington and formerly lived in Union Park Gardens. She was the daughter of the Late Clayton J. and Florence E. (Berg) Denn.
She was a graduate of Wilmington High School and had been employed as a bookkeeper at Colonial National Bank until she retired in 1979. She taught Sunday school at St. Andrews Episcopal Church for 18 years.
Mrs. Josephson was predeceased by her husband, Bernard W. Josephson, in 1957. She is survived by two daughters, Joanne E. Keller and her husband Ray of Rehoboth Beach, with whom she lived; and Judy Shaw and her husband Jay of Oro Valley, Ariz.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Graveside services were private at Silverbrook Cemetery, Wilmington.

Bernard J. Kossek, 88, of Lewes, passed away Monday, April 9, 2007.
Bernard retired from the main Post Office at Quigley Blvd. in 1982, where he worked in maintenance. Prior to that he worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad on 30th Street, Wilmington as a 1st class welder. Bernard was in the Army in World War II as a staff sergeant. He was attached to the 895th Air Force. He served in Central Europe, Normandy, Northern France and Rhineland.
Bernard is survived by his dedicated and loving wife, (Anastasia) Alice J. (Pajrowski) Kossek of Lewes, with whom he was married to for 62 wonderful years; his only son, Larry B. Kossek of Lewes; his only daughter, Bernadette J. Robinson and her husband, Frank H. Robinson Jr., of Clayton; three grandsons, Wesley F. Robinson, Gregory A. Robinson and Raymond P. Robinson, all of Clayton.
He was preceded in death by his three brothers, Leo Kossek, John Kossek and Frank Kossek; his four sisters, Kate Dalecki, Mary (Pusey) Larrimore, Victoria Horn, and Helen Mosiej; his father, Bernard Kossek and his mother Anna (Miedzianowska) Kossek. She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 54 years, William Huber, in 1992. Mrs. Huber was born in New Castle, Pa., daughter of Ray and Georgiana Beard Cartwright. She moved to Millsboro with her husband in 1980. Ruth was a member of Lewes Presbyterian Church and was a lifelong member of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Huber is survived by three sons, Robert D. Jay Marshall Bunting, 83, of Dagsboro, passed away April 10, 2007, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, Md. Mr. Bunting was born Nov. 24, 1923, in Dagsboro, the son of the late John M. and Sarah Emma Godfrey Bunting. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Navy. Mr. Bunting retired in 1978 after 30 years of service as the supervisor of the Georgetown and Dover offices of the Internal Revenue Service. He was an umpire for high school baseball, softball and the Lower Sussex Little League for 40 years and was inducted into the Eastern Shore Baseball Hall of Fame in 2003.

Roy R. Adams, 89, of Denton, Md., passed away Tuesday, April 10, 2007, at Memorial Hospital in Easton, Md.
Born March 22, 1918, near Bridgeville, Adams was the son of Orrie and Minnie Collison Adams. He owned the Adams Feed Co. and the Adams and Wright Hardware, both in Denton, as well as the Adams Oceanfront Motel in Dewey Beach. He co-owned the Redwood Lodge and Southwinds Motel in Dewey Beach in the 1960s. He also owned a beef cattle farm in Starr, Md., and a grain farm in Goldsboro, Md. About 40 years ago, as the two Methodist churches in Denton combined to build a new church, Adams converted the Grace Methodist Church into apartments that he owned and managed until his death. Mr. Adams was active in the Lions Club, the Masons, the Eastern Shore and State Shrine and was a life member of the Denton Volunteer Fire Co. He was highly regarded as a civic and community leader and was a mentor to many. Mr. Adams had a great love for his cottage camp on a pond in the Maine woods and spent much time there each year. The Maine locals considered him one of them as he joined with them in hunting, boating and snowmobiling. In the last five years, he co-owned standard-bred horses with Kenny Wood; he loved going to the harness races at Dover and Harrington and was often seen at the track.
Adams was predeceased by his wife, Catherine; a son, Roger Adams; a granddaughter, Joanna Plummer; a brother, Maurice Adams; and a sister, Jessie Adams Williamson. He is survived by two daughters, Ruby Adams of Rehoboth Beach and Jane A. Plummer of Hagerstown, Md.; one brother, Lester Adams of Bridgeville; two granddaughters, Jenny L. Plummer-Welker of Bowie, Md., and Jackie D. Plummer Sprow of Genessee, Pa.; one step-grandson, Reilly Gordon of McLean, Va.; and three great-grandchildren, Ellie, Ezra and Josey, all of Genessee.
Services will be at 1 p.m., Saturday, April 14, at the Moore Funeral Home P.A., 12 South Second St., Denton, where friends and family may call from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, April 13. Carolyn E. Fanny Leister, of Rehoboth Beach, passed away Monday, April 9, 2007, one day before her 45th birthday.
She was born April 10, 1962, in Wilmington, to Charles R. Fanny Sr. and June E. Fanny. Carolyn attended Hodgson Vo Tech.
She was raised in Garfield Park before moving to Lewes and Rehoboth Beach. She worked at Bowlerama Restaurant, A&P Food Markets, Pathmark and Michael Christopher. At the time of her death she was employed at Vivian’s Style in Lewes and Wachovia Bank in Rehoboth. Carolyn touched the heart of everyone who knew her. She loved the beach and dancing. Carolyn especially enjoyed spending time with her many nieces and nephews. Carolyn is survived by her father, Charles R. Fanny Sr.; mother, June E. Fanny; four sisters, Mary Ann Snyder, Donna M. William Henry Williams, 70, of Georgetown, professor emeritus of history at the University of Delaware, died Saturday, April 7, 2007, of colon cancer.
Dr. Williams, who inspired students and acquaintances alike with his scholarship, good spirits, lively curiosity and wide range of interests, was a popular and respected professor of American history at the University of Delaware’s Academic Center in Georgetown for 33 years. In 2006 he was honored as the third Delawarean to receive the Governor’s Heritage Award for “preserving and celebrating Delaware’s history and culture.”
Dr. Williams was born June 9, 1936 in Port Jervis, N.Y., and spent his youth in Southold, N.Y. He was the oldest of six sons of Henry Williams and Esther Crocker Williams. His father was supervising principal of the public schools in Southold, which Dr. Williams attended.
In 1958 he graduated from Drew University with a bachelor of arts in history and later received a master of science in education from Yeshiva University. He began his long teaching career as a high school teacher at J.H.S 204 in Queens, New York City, and also taught at Pawling Central High School in Pawling, N.Y. He then pursued his doctorate at the University of Delaware, receiving his PhD in 1971.
In 1967 he and his family moved to Georgetown where Dr. Williams taught in what was then known as the University of Delaware’s Parallel Program until his retirement in 2000. He also served as southern coordinator of the university’s Master of Arts in Liberal Studies program. He was a fellow of the university’s Center for Advanced Studies.
In addition to his teaching in the field of American history, Dr. Williams was the author of six books, primarily focused on the Delmarva peninsula. These include “America’s First Hospital: The Pennsylvania Hospital, 1751-1841” (1976); “The Garden of American Methodism” (1984), published for the bicentennial of the Methodist church; “Slavery and Freedom in Delaware” (1996), which was the basis for two national award-winning films; “The First State: An Illustrated History of Delaware” (1985); and “Delmarva’s Chicken Industry: 75 Years of Progress” (1998). His book on the environmental history of Delaware, titled “An Environmental History of Delaware, 1641-2000,” is scheduled for publication this fall. Dr. Williams has also written numerous articles for scholarly journals and standard reference works in the fields of medicine, race relations and religion.
In addition to his professional career, Dr. Williams was active in church and civic activities. He served as chairman of the Delaware Humanities Forum, as president of the Peninsula Delaware Conference Historical Society of the Methodist Church and was a member of the Delaware Heritage Commission. In 1980 he was awarded the Joseph DelTufo award for service to the humanities in Delaware.
Dr. Williams was a longtime Sunday school teacher at Wesley United Methodist Church in Georgetown, where he also chaired numerous commissions and committees. In Georgetown, he served as chairman of the town’s Bicentennial Committee in 1976.
Most recently he had been active, along with his wife, Helen, in raising funds for a new library in Georgetown. When his sons were young, he coached Little League baseball. He was a member of Sussex Pines Country Club where he enjoyed playing golf.
Dr. Williams was predeceased by his parents and by his son, David Garrett Williams, who died in 1978. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Helen Garrett Williams; his daughter, Dawn Esther Stitzel and her husband August Stitzel of Annapolis, Md.; his son Mark Thomas Williams and his wife Kym Oppenheim Williams of Newton, Mass.; and two granddaughters, Amelia Blaine Williams and Sarah Elizabeth Williams. He is also survived by his brothers, Wayne D. Williams and his wife Marlene of Port Jefferson, N.Y., Jerry R. Williams and his wife Rose of New Paltz, N.Y., Thomas J. Williams and his wife Shirley of Upper Black Eddy, Pa., Robert D. Williams and his wife Susan of Harbinger, N.C. and Mark T. Williams and his wife Mary Ann of Stanfordville, N.Y.
A celebration of Bill Williams’ life will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, April 14, at Wesley United Methodist Church at East Laurel and North Race streets in Georgetown. The service will be followed by a reception in Jones Hall at the church, where friends may visit with the Williams family.

Nancy Clifton Rhue, 59, of Milton, passed away Friday, April 6, 2007, surrounded by her loving family, at home.
Nancy was born in Milford, the daughter of the late William Carlton and Beatrice Hudson Clifton.
She was a 1966 graduate of Milford High School, a graduate of St. Andrew’s College in Laurinburg, N.C. and received her master’s degree from the University of Delaware.
Nancy taught English in the Cape Henlopen School District for 32 years and was an adviser for the school’s National Honor Society.
She was a member of Slaughter Neck United Methodist Church, serving in many capacities, including church pianist and Sunday school secretary. She was a member of the United Methodist Women and served on the building committee for the social hall addition.
Nancy was also president of the Friends of the Milton Public Library and was integral in fundraising for the recent expansion.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Doris Argo.
She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Brent Rhue; two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael C. and Garnet Rhue of Milton and Jonathan and Tina Rhue of Portland, Ore.; a daughter, Allison E. Rhue of Milton; three grandchildren, Hadley Rhue, Austin Rhue and Gabriel Rhue; five sisters, Vera Reed and Linda Carpenter, both of Milton, Ethel Graham, Eleanor Ritter and Carlyn Bryan, all of Milford; and two brothers, Robert Clifton and Donald Clifton, both of Milton.
Services will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, April 10, in Slaughter Neck United Methodist Church, Argo’s Corner Road, Milford. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery.

Jean Rebecca “Smithie” Smith, 72, of Seaford, formerly of Laurel, died of natural causes Monday, April 2, 2007, in Genesis, Seaford Retirement Center, formerly Genesis Elder Care, Seaford.
Mrs. Smith was the daughter of the late William and Annie Harmon.
She was affectionately called “Big Momma” by family and called “Smithie” by friends and co-workers.
In her earlier years, she resided in Harlem, N.Y., having completed her education in the New York school system.
Upon relocating to Laurel, she became a member of Victory Revival Fellowship; later, she fellowshipped with the Rev. Braxton-Clark and his congregation in Delmar.
Prior to her disability, Mrs. Smith retired from the Stockley Center, where she worked for many years as a certified health care aide.
She is survived by two sons, Oliver (Dorethea) Smith of Milford and Darryl “Stevie” (Michele) Smith of Milton; four daughters, Blenda (Larkland) Lawson of Laurel, Kim (Jean) Marcelin of Laurel, Felita “Lisa” (William) Sampson of Seaford and Sonia Smith-Sampson of Laurel; an adopted daughter, Maggie DuPont of Laurel; a brother, William (Dianne) Harmon of Central Islip, N.Y.; a sister, Margaret Cogen of Ocala, Ill.; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; a devoted long-time companion, Edward King Jr. of Trenton, N.J.; a foster son who resided with her, Leonard; three longtime devoted special friends, Edna Smith, also a sister-in-law of Sherman, Texas, Willa Mae DuPont of Seaford and Juanita “Peaches” Johnson of Laurel; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services were held in United Deliverance Center, Laurel, with burial in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Seaford.

Anthony “Tony” A. Zangaro, 77, of Long Neck, and formerly of Philadelphia and New Jersey, died Wednesday, April 4, 2007 at the Beebe Medical Center in Lewes.
He was born in Marlton, N.J., son of the late Anthony and Irma (Driscoll) Zangaro.
He was a retired real estate broker and served with the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War, where he was a survivor of the Battle of the Chosin Reservoir.
He was a member of American Legion Post 28, VFW Post 7447 and the AMVETS 2.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Alma M. Zangaro; two sons, Joseph and Mark Zangaro, both of New Jersey; five grandchildren, Mara and Jacob of Riverside, N.J., Kief, Katie and Joseph of San Diego, Calif.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 11, at Mary, Mother of Peace Catholic Church, Millsboro.
Interment will be at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery South in Millsboro.
A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 10, at the chapel of Melson Funeral Services on Long Neck Road in Millsboro, and again from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Ann E. Cowley, 67, of Rehoboth Beach, died Wednesday, April 4, 2007, at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes.
She was born in Philadelphia, Pa., daughter of the late William and Anna McAllister McDonald. Ann moved to the area in 1996 from Upper Darby, Pa.
She was a homemaker who loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, music and going to the slots. Ann also loved cats and enjoyed caring for stray cats in the neighborhood.
In addition to her parents, Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Leo J. Cowley Jr., in 1999.
She is survived by 11 children, Donna J. Rieman of Wallingford, Pa., Cynthia Dever of Hebron, Md., Virginia Norman and husband Edward of Daytona Beach, Fla., Bethann Motti and Joseph Gallagher, both of Rehoboth Beach, Janet Boerckel of Upper Darby, Marianne Gallagher of Seaford, Leigh Gallagher of Hershey, Pa., Laurie Connor of Dallas, Texas, Barbara Connor of Laurel, and Abigail Haines of Morton, Pa., as well as several grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services were held. Burial was in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro.

Leroy Clinton “Roy” Thompson, 87, died Monday, April 2, 2007, at Harbor Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Lewes.
Roy was born Dec. 20, 1919, in Manasquan, N.J., son of Clinton F. and Ethel Roland Thompson. He enlisted in the National Guard in September 1940, and his unit was federalized in 1942. He served in the Aleutian Islands as a special vehicle operator engaged in building an air base at Big Delta with Squadron D, 1455th AAF Base Unit.
During his service in the AAF he was awarded the American Service Medal and the Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal.
Following his discharge in 1945, he returned to Manasquan where he was engaged in construction with his father until the family moved to West Palm Beach, Fla.
In 1976 Roy moved to Lewes and was employed at Beebe Medical Center until retirement in 1987. He was a member of Groome United Methodist Church, Lewes. He will be remembered fondly by his family and many acquaintances for his friendly smile and special greeting, “Hi, Sport, how’s your motor running?”
In addition to his parents, Roy was predeceased by his brother, Harold “Buck” Thompson of Rehoboth Beach; and his niece, Kathi Thompson Booth of Georgetown. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Joan Marshall Thompson of Rehoboth Beach; and his niece, Shelly Thompson Sposato and husband Fred of Milton. He is also survived by seven great-nieces and nephews, William “Buck” Booth, Meg Booth Lawson and husband Cliff, Allisa Booth, Mark Booth, Spencer Booth, Marshall Owings and Casey Owings; and great-great-nephew Case Louis Lawson.
A memorial service conducted by the Rev. William C. Hopkins will be held at 7 p.m., Tuesday, April 17, at Groome United Methodist Church, Savannah Road and Dewey Avenue, Lewes. Burial will be private at Atlantic View Cemetery, Manasquan, N.J.

Marvin E. Wright, 74, of Lewes, formerly of Phoenix, Ariz., went to meet the Lord Tuesday, April 3, 2007.
He was born Nov. 29, 1932 in Rosine, Ky., son of the late Rev. Richard and Rosella Wright. Marvin is reuniting with brother, Robert Wright, and his sisters, Joyce Dye, Lillian Johnson and Edna Claar.
As the general superintendent for the largest construction company in the state of Arizona, he was very well known and respected throughout the community. He contributed to some of the great architecture in Phoenix. Marvin loved fishing, banana pudding, gardening, John Wayne movies, and John Deere tractors. Above all else, his greatest love was time spent with his family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Lois “Pat” Wright; two sons, Edward Wright and his wife Tina, and Jim Wright; three daughters, Debbie Pettyjohn, Patty Todd, and Cathy Stewart; a brother, Carl Wright and his wife Becky; two sisters, Ruth Willard, Lois Hill and her husband Mike; as well as 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Adam Bryant, 80, formerly of Harbeson, departed this life Thursday, March 29, 2007, in Joliet, Ill. He was 80.
He was born to the union of Adam and Jenny Bryant April 22, 1926.
He was united in holy matrimony to Ruth Bost Dec. 23, 1942, and from this union six children were born.
Adam lived a full and productive life.
He attended Hampton Institute in Hampton, Va.
He served his country in the U.S. Navy, ranking motor machinist mate 3rd class, and received an honorable discharge Jan. 26, 1946. During his military tour his medals of honor included Victory Medal, Pacific Theatre Medal and American Theatre Medal.
He was preceded in death by his lovely wife, Ruth; his beautiful daughter, Beverly; one brother; and six sisters.
He leaves to cherish his memories two sons, Adam Bryant and his wife Ernestine of Chicago, and Ronald Bryant of Washington; three daughters, Yvonne Lugo and her husband William of Illinois, Tanya Hatchett-Porter of Tennessee and Faith Hurst of Alabama; 18 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Cordella. Also very close to his heart and by his side during his illness were Ruby Green, Luther Moore, Richard Tyler Sr. and Jr. and Ron Branker; his nephew, Alfred Woods; and niece, Rebecca Johnson, both of Cool Spring.
Burial will be private.

Jean Taylor Russell, 79, of Bridgeville, died Monday, April 2, 2007, at Lofland Life Care in Seaford.
Mrs. Russell was born in Philadelphia, Pa., daughter of the late William and Bessie Cotshott Taylor.
She had been employed as an executive secretary for the Federal Aviation Administration for many years. Russell was a longtime member of Christ Lutheran Church, and a member of the Bridgeville Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. She had served on the board of Luther Towers Convalescent Home in Milton. She also had served as president of the Dairy Goat Association. She was an animal lover, loved camping with her family and was very devoted to her family.
Mrs. Russell is survived by her husband Elmer W. Russell; two daughters, Yvonne Price and her husband David of Laurel and Mary Malmberg and her husband Norwin of Annapolis, Md.; five sons, John Russell and his wife Doris of Lewes, Joseph Russell and his wife Annie of Dallas, Texas, Walter Russell and his wife Carol of Baltimore, Md.; Robert Russell and his wife Donna of Laurel and Thomas Russell and his wife Brenda of Dallas, Texas; two daughters-in-law, Connie Russell of Pasadena, Md., wife of her deceased son Elmer H. Russell and Estelle Russell of Seaford, wife of her deceased son Barry W. Russell. There are also numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren surviving Mrs. Russell.

Mildred Ellsworth, 81, of Lewes passed away Saturday, March 31, 2007, in Genesis Healthcare-Seaford Center. Mrs. Ellsworth was born July 25, 1925, daughter of the late Vernon and Nellie McCarter. She was a loving mother and homemaker.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William W. Ellsworth Jr., in 1997; and a son, William W. Ellsworth III in 2006.
She is survived by two daughters, Kathy McCarty of Vineland, N.J., and Jo Ann Giles and her husband Ray of Pawleys Island, S.C.; two sons, Robert W. Ellsworth of Georgetown, and Joseph L. Ellsworth and his wife Christine of Wilmington; 14 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Doris E. Carmean, 83, of Millsboro, died Tuesday, April 3, 2007.
Mrs. Carmean was a member of St. Johns United Methodist Church at Springfield Crossroads. Doris enjoyed cooking and taking care of her family.
Doris never met a stranger and was a real lady.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Lida Mae Wooten Parker; two husbands, Reynolds Esham, who died in 1953 and Delbert Carmean, who died in 1991.

Ralph A. Martin, 96, of Lewes, passed away Thursday, March 29, 2007 in his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Martin was born in Milton, son of the late Harry and Virgie Pettyjohn Martin.
He worked with Delaware River and Bay Authority for many years in the maintenance department, retiring in 1977. Many years ago he had worked for Stockley Cannery and was a self- employed poultry farmer for 30 years.
Ralph loved bowling, golfing, harness racing and baseball, especially the Philadelphia Phillies.
He also was known for his love of cats, and enjoyed caring for and feeding many of them in the neighborhood. He attended the First Baptist Church of Milford.
In addition to his parents, Ralph was preceded in death by his first wife, Elsie Marvel Martin; a son, Ralph Martin; a brother, William Martin; and a sister, Virginia Moore.
He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Ina Brewer Martin; nine children, James Martin and wife Joan of Lewes, Robert Martin and wife Gwen, Bill Martin and wife Peggy, all of Rehoboth, Charles Martin and wife Carolyn of Lewes, Betty Craven of Woodbury, N.J., Pat Gargano of Toms River, N.J., Dawn Smith and husband Jerry of Felton, Charles Kenton of Lincoln and John Kenton of Columbia, Tenn.; 28 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews and special niece, Thelma Hopkins and husband Bill of Milton; and very good friends, Joe and Renada Wiley of Milford.

James A. Alexander, fondly known as “Jumbo” and “Pop Pop Jim,” 87, passed away peacefully Tuesday, March 27, 2007.
Born April 11, 1919, Jim was a veteran of World War II and served in the D-Day invasion. He played softball with the Wilmington Boy’s Club before the war. He played basketball with St. Paul’s CYO. Jim was president of Electric Hose & Rubber ARA for two years. He was involved with the construction of the softball field at 16th & Claymont Street. After the war, Jim helped manage the Defiance Club. He played softball for Yetter’s Tavern in 1955. He loved his sports. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 5447 and the Defiance Club. He was a social member of the Knights of Columbus in Claymont. Jim worked for Electric Hose & Rubber for 33 years.
Jim was predeceased by his wife, Shirley Conlin Alexander. He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, William and Peg Alexander of Rehoboth Beach; by his stepchildren and their spouses, Shirley and Dave Slaughter, who cared for him, Richard and Betty Grier, Patricia Zickgraf, Juanita and James Henderson, Donald and Alice Grier and Debra Wright. Also surviving are his grandson, Jason Leary and his wife Terra, who devoted their time in caring for Pop Pop Jim, and grandson, Joseph Leary and his wife Denise. Jim had a total of 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, two nephews and a great-nephew.

Lewis P. Ercole, 79, went to his eternal rest with God Thursday, March 29, 2007.
Mr. Ercole was born December 3, 1927, in Beckley, formerly known as Mabscott, W.V., son of the late Andrew Sr. and Emily Resine Ercole. He and his family moved to Wilmington in August 1944. Lewis worked at the A.I. DuPont estates for Jesse Belle DuPont as a gardener, nurturing the flowers and plants in the greenhouses while also supplying floral arrangements. He retired in 1992 after offering 39 years of service. Lewis loved the game of baseball and was a hard-throwing pitcher and third baseman. It was a true crowd-pleaser for local baseball fans to see all three Ercole brothers playing together as teammates and batting first, second and third in the batting order. Above all, Lewis was a man of great faith, living every day of his life in service to the Lord. He always supported his church and gave generously to numerous other religious denominations and charities. The Lord reached and touched Lewis throughout his lifetime, making him a special child of God. Lewis always considered heaven to be his true home, and now he is there.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Ercole was predeceased by his nephew, Ernest Lewis Ercole; and his brothers-in-law, Fabio Paoletti and Joseph DiAngelo. He is survived by his two sisters, Josephine Paoletti and Mary DiAngelo; two brothers, Carl Ercole and his wife Josephine of San Mateo, Calif., and Andy Ercole and his wife Rosemarie of Rehoboth Beach; an aunt, Nell Malatesta; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:15 a.m., Tuesday, April 3, at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 4th and Bancroft sts. in Wilmington. Interment will follow in Cathedral Cemetery. Llewellyn ‘Lou’ Evans,

Llewellyn W. “Lou” Evans, 69, of Lincoln, died Saturday, March 31, 2007, at home.
Mr. Evans was born January 12, 1938, in Milford, the son of the late Llewellyn W. and Madeline Hammond Evans.
He was a veteran of the U. S. Marine Corps. Lou was a mechanic, working for I.G. Burton in Milford and Townsend Brothers in Dover.
He then went to work as a shop foreman at Melson Alternator and Starter in Lewes. He left Melson’s to work for the state of Delaware in both the Dover and Georgetown shops for 10 years before retiring in January 2000.
After retirement, he worked at Hertrich’s of Milford part time as a driver and at the Delaware Solid Waste Authority in Ellendale. He was a member of the Milford Moose Lodge.
Lou loved to tinker around his shop and enjoyed fishing and hunting years ago. He especially loved to spend time with his granddaughter Courtney, who was his pride and joy.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Betty Evans, one daughter, M. Ann Evans-Betts and her husband Charles “C.B.” Betts of Milford; one granddaughter, Courtney A. Betts; three sisters, Helena Behler of Charlotte, N.C., Mary S. Lee of Bridgeville and Sylvia Ann Switzer of Orleans, Ind.; one brother, Richard E. Evans of West Virginia; and many nieces, nephews and their spouses.

Emily A. Rowland, 95, of Lewes, passed away Saturday, March 31, 2007, at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes.
She was born October 9, 1911, in Dagsboro, daughter of the late Benjamin Truitt Adkins and Amelia Collins Adkins.
Mrs. Rowland was a lifelong resident of Sussex County and the youngest in a family of eight children. She was also the oldest living member of Lewes Presbyterian Church.
She was a member of the Sussex County Heart Association often serving on the Heart Association Ball Committee. Mrs. Rowland was a charter member of the Rehoboth Beach Country Club and played with the ladies’ golf team.
She was active in the Sussex County Republican Club and enjoyed playing bridge, cooking and entertaining.
She loved tailgating at University of Delaware football games and wintering in Barbados and Vero Beach, Fla. During World War II she volunteered with the Red Cross, and when the Civilian Conservation Corps Camp was in Lewes, she worked with the Gray Ladies.
She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Capt. James Wright Rowland in 2001 and her seven siblings. She is survived by two daughters, Jay and her husband John D. Hukill of Pinewater Farm and Margaret Webb of Lewes; five grandchildren, Charlotte H. Passwaters and her husband Colter, Sarah H. Berninger and her husband Michael, James Rowland Hukill and his wife Sabrina, Amy W. West and her husband Joe, and Abby R. Webb and her finance Andrew Hooven; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews and their families; and one sister-in-law, Thelma J. Rowland and her family.

Anna Marie Cresmer McCafferty, 87, of Seaford, passed away Friday, March 30, 2007, at Genesis Healthcare Center in Seaford. Mrs. McCafferty was born August 15, 1919, in West Chester, Pa., daughter of the late James and Anna Marie Grief Cresmer.
Mrs. McCafferty had a long career as a corporate bookkeeper. In retirement, she was very active with the Community Action Center in Georgetown. During the Big Band era, she played the organ and the vibraphones, often performing in Philadelphia and Atlantic City.
She is survived by three daughters, Barbara Roe, Kim Dewey and her husband Kevin, all of Seaford, and Lisa Jefferson and her husband George of Greenwood; a son, William McCafferty IV of Seaford; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two brothers, James Cresmer and Norman Cresmer, both of Rehoboth Beach.

Born in Pittsburgh, Pa., he was the son of the late Walter P. and Rose Brztowski Witkowski. William retired from Phoenix Steel in Claymont as a night supervisor.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary A. Witkowski in 1997; brothers, Anthony, Francis, John and Thomas; and sisters, Ethel Feret, Sophie Sczubelek and Josephine Weaver. He is survived by his son, William J. Witkowski Jr. of Wilmington; sisters, Helen Bazydlo and Jeannette Steen, both of Wilmington, and Eleanore Walker of Seminole, Fla.; brothers, Stanley Witkowski Sr., Joseph “Rusty” Witkowski and Felix Witkowski and his wife Barbara, all of Wilmington; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces, Nancy Bazela and her husband William of Claymont, Shirley Henderson and her husband John of Wilmington and Etha Mae Hanby and her husband Vernon of Newport; and brother-in-law, William Casperson and his wife Etha Mae of Lewes.

Dean L. O’Hollaren, 91, of Hockessin, passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 28, 2007, at Regal Heights.
Born in Winner, S.D., Mr. O’Hollaren was the son of the late Frank and Amy Simmonds O’Hollaren. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked as a sales manager for the DuPont Company, retiring in 1977 after 37 years of employment. An avid golfer, he was a member of the DuPont Country Club.
A devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he will be dearly missed by his wife of 67 years, Josephine Costo O’Hollaren; his sons and daughters-in-law, Dean L. ‘Terry’ and Patricia O’Hollaren of Annapolis, Md., and John R. ‘Jack’ and Lana O’Hollaren of Rehoboth Beach; his grandchildren, Kristin, Erin, Ryan and Conor; and his great-grandson, Aidan.
Funeral services will be private.

Paula L. Brown,
former nanny
Paula L. Brown, 43, of Rehoboth Beach, passed away at her residence Thursday, March 29, 2007.
She was born October 9, 1963, in Wilmington, daughter of the late Jerome J. King and Judith King Norton of Rehoboth Beach. Ms. Brown had been employed as a quality control technician with the Homalite Corp. for fourteen years. She also worked as a nanny for ten years for the five Bardwell children. Her hobbies included shopping and attending carnivals. She was loved by all who knew her.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her brother, David J. Brown. In addition to her mother, she is survived by her sister, Cheryl McPherson and her husband George of Wilmington; her brother, Paul J. Brown and his wife Tracy of Lincoln; nine nieces and nephews; her stepfather, James Norton of Rehoboth Beach; her aunts, Ellen Laskowski of Wilmington and Patricia Davis of Smyrna; her uncle, Thomas Gerres of Albuquerque, N.M.; and her beloved dog, Chichi.
All services are private.

Ernest T. Fitzgerald,
farmer, truck driver
Ernest T. Fitzgerald, a lifetime resident of Lincoln, passed away Thursday, March 29, 2007, in his home, surrounded by his loving family, after a long illness.
Ernest was the only child of Willis and Sallie Coverdale Fitzgerald.
He was employed by Clifford Donovan until Mr. Donovan’s death, and then worked for many years as a driver for Peninsula Oil. He retired from full-time work in 1992, but stayed on at Peninsula Oil for many years part time. He was also a self-employed farmer.
When he was able, Ernest and his wife attended Milford Church of the Nazarene.
He was drafted into the U.S. Army and served his country in Japan.
Ernest was an avid hunter and owned several beagles that won trophies and ribbons at trials. He was a past member of the Greenbrier Hunting Lodge and Laurel Beagle Club. He was also a life member of the Ellendale Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9244 and the AARP.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Ruth Ann Messick Fitzgerald; three children, Berta Goodwin and her husband Jim of Georgetown, Greg Fitzgerald of Felton and Russ Howard of Slaughter Beach; five grandchildren; a great-grandson; a half-brother, Kenneth Fitzgerald of Lincoln; two half-sisters, Mary Speakman and Margaret Helsdon, both of Lincoln; and three sisters-in-law, Mary Jane Mariner and Ethel White and her husband Jim, all of Milford, and Rose Warren and her husband Charles “Butch” of Lincoln.
Services were held. Burial was in Lincoln Cemetery.

Robyn Mershon Cisco,

Robyn Mershon Cisco, 50, of Lewes died suddenly Thursday, March 29, 2007, at her residence. She was 50.
She was born Nov. 2, 1956, in Philadelphia, daughter of the late Don Mershon and Vest “Tiki” Mershon of Bethlehem, Pa.
Robyn was employed by Delaware Guidance Services in Lewes and Catholic Charities in Dover.
She was instrumental in the success of her family business, Cisco’s Tree Service.
Robyn’s tireless generosity of her time and support of friends and family in need was her greatest achievement.
She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, daughter and friend.
She was accomplished at cooking, art, gardening, dancing and performing music as a drummer with her family and friends.
Robyn was very passionate about reading and music.
She was active in the community, especially with her daughter Kylie’s high school soccer and community programs.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her loving husband, Timothy M. Cisco; her daughter, Kylie Cisco; and her son, Zakry Cisco, all of Lewes; two brothers, John Mershon of Malvern, Pa. and Jay Mershon of Gilbertsville, Pa.; and her best friend and her children’s godmother, Mary Ann Lerro of Philadelphia.
A memorial service will be held at noon, Wednesday, April 4, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Hwy., Lewes, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be private.

Anna DiMattia Matz, of Millsboro, died Friday, March 30, 2007.
Anna was born in Abruzzi Province, Italy. Before moving to Delaware she worked for the Clairton, Pa., magistrates office. She retired from M & T Bank in Millsboro. Anna enjoyed shopping, painting ceramics and her family. She attended Long Neck United Methodist Church in Long Neck.
She was predeceased by her father, Emilio DiMattia; her husband, John Franklin Matz in 1995; and a sister, Pina Scarseua.
She is survived by her mother, Ada Ginestra DiMattia; a daughter, Shannon Marie Matz of Millsboro; three stepsons, John E. Matz of Latrobe, Pa., Gary F. Matz of Rosslyn Farms, Pa., and Douglas F. Matz of Philadelphia, Pa.; two sisters, Dea Bonaccita and Ida Ward, both of Clairton; and one brother, Dominic DiMattia.
Services were held in Millsboro. Out-of-town services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, April 5, at S. M. Finney Funeral Home, 432 North Sixth & Walnut streets, Clairton.
Interment will be in Round Hill Cemetery, Elizabeth Township, Pa.

Adele Mumford,

Adele Mumford, 70, of Frankford, died Wednesday, March 28, 2007, at Beebe Medical Center, Lewes, peacefully surrounded by her loved ones.
She was born July 23, 1936, in Americus, Ga., the daughter of the late Anna Clara Chandler and Samuel Chandler.
Adele was affectionately known as Mommy, Na Na, Gramps, X, Big Red, Dale and Puffy Jaws. She received her education in Selbyville. She attended Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ and the House of Prayer, both in Selbyville.
She worked numerous years as a housekeeper and housewife. Her hobbies and pleasurable pastimes included shopping, yard sales, cooking and decorating.
She would welcome you into her home no matter who you were. She would feed you and take you in as if you were her own.
Adele was preceded in death by her mother, Anna Clara Chandler; her stepfather, Samuel Chandler; her son, Terry Mumford; two brothers, Henry C. Lillard and James Keith; and one son-in-law, Kenton Williams.
She leaves her loved ones to cherish many beautiful and loving memories. She is survived by five sons, Jerry Mumford of Selbyville, Roland Mumford Jr. of Frankford, Earlest Mumford of Lincoln, Walter Mumford of Laurel, and William Handy and wife Tory of Millsboro; six daughters, Mary Hallet of Salisbury, Md., Deborah Morris and husband Harry of Millsboro, Stephanie Mumford of Long Neck, and Janice Williams, Barbara Mumford, Samantha Smith and husband Donnie, all of Frankford, Delaware. Marie E. Cirwithian,
lifelong Milton resident
Marie Elizabeth Cirwithian, 74, of Milton, died Tuesday, March 27, 2007, at Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her loving family members. She was born Dec. 19, 1932, in Milton to the late Elisabeth Hudson and Robert H. Cirwithian.
She grew up and spent her entire life in Milton.
She was a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church and was a member of the senior choir.
She also served as a secretary there and sang with the spiritual voices choir.
During her working career she worked at the King Cole plant in Milton as a production worker, retiring in the early 1980s.
She also worked with the beach conservation program planting beach grass.
She is survived by a daughter, Carol C. Parker of Lincoln; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at noon, Wednesday, April 4, in the Bethel A.M.E. Church, 397 Mulberry St., Milton. Friends may call at the church two hours prior to service. The Rev. Lamont Harmon will officiate.
Burial will be in Bethel Church Cemetery.

Virginia L. Mitchell, 83, of Dagsboro, died Sunday, April 1, 2007, at Coastal Hospice at the Lake, Salisbury, Md.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Marie Ellensworth Layton; her husband, George T. Mitchell in 1999; a brother, Vernon Layton; and a sister, Margaret Revel.
She is survived by two sons, Tilghman B. Mitchell of Millsboro and Steven A. Mitchell and wife Sharon of Georgetown; a daughter, April M. Powell and husband Glenn of Dagsboro; a brother, Wallace Layton of Georgetown; two sisters, Jeanette Hall and Carolyn Timmons, both of Millsboro; five granddaughters; one grandson; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a special friend and caregiver, Virginia Hickman.
She was a former principal with the Stockley Center School, retiring with 34 years of service.
Services will be at 1 p.m., Thursday, April 5, at Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington St., Millsboro, where friends may call one hour prior.

She is survived by eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was a retired seamstress. She was a member of the Hickory Hill United Methodist Church, Millsboro.
Services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, April 4, at Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington St. Millsboro, where friends may call at noon.

Edith L. Short, 83, of Georgetown, passed away Saturday, March 31, 2007, at Bayhealth/Milford Memorial Hospital.
She was born in London, England, the daughter of the late James John and Grace Guidott Askew. She was married in England, on July 5, 1945, to Emory Short.
She was a British war bride. She was a homemaker and a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She also loved animals. She was a member of the Milford Senior Center and enjoyed traveling. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Emory Short who passed away Nov. 6, 2001; three sisters and one brother.
She is survived by three daughters, Janis S. Nickerson and her husand Bill of State College, Pa., Maxine S. Johnson and her husband, Ronnie, of Georgetown and Denise S. Leyh and her husband Jim of Georgetown; seven grandchildren, Alex and Abby Nickerson, Blair Johnson, Erin Kesselring, James, Alexis and Chelsea Leyh; one brother, Ronnie Askew of Mildenhall, England; one brother-in-law, Ralph C. Short of Dagsboro; and a cousin, George Collins of Lincoln.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Friday, April 6, in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market St., Georgetown, where friends may call after 2 p.m.
Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Georgetown.
