John M. Roca,
Cape High graduate
John Michael Roca, 18, of Rehoboth Beach, died suddenly Saturday, Nov. 10, 2007, at Christiana Medical Center in Christiana. He was the son of Mariano Roca and Margaret Long Roca.
John was a freshman currently attending the University of Delaware majoring in natural resource management with a minor in art. He was working toward his goal of a master’s in shoreline conservation. He was a graduate of Cape Henlopen High School where he had carried a 3.97 grade point average. In his early years he was involved with the Boy Scouts program, attaining the position of Star Scout. Throughout high school he was very involved with the FFA where he had held numerous officer positions. He served as National Honor Society president his senior year, lettered in swimming and had been a lifeguard at the North Shores beach. He would light up a room with his smile every time he entered. One of John’s FFA advisors said, “He was a light in my chapter and a memory that I will carry forever. It was his love and dedication and his smile that made him so wonderful to have.”
A memorial golf outing at the Rehoboth Beach County Club is planned for July 23, 2008, from which the proceeds will be used to support the charity listed below.
In addition to his parents he is survived by his brother, Billy Roca of Rehoboth Beach; paternal grandparents, Vito and Mary Roca of Deltona, Fla.; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Bernard and Elaine Long. Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Edmond’s Catholic Church, King Charles Avenue and Laurel Street, Rehoboth Beach, at 11 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 15, with Father Raymond Forrester officiating. Interment will be at All Saints’ Cemetery, Angola. Friends may call from 6-9 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 14, at the Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes.

Nathan E. Cagle,
World War II veteran
Nathan E. Cagle, 87, of Lewes, formerly of Wilmington, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2007, at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.
Mr. Cagle, affectionately known as Gene, was born Dec. 23, 1919, in Athens, Tenn., son of the late Hobart and Susie Cagle. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Kenneth and Milton, and is survived by sister Martha and brother Lloyd.
Gene proudly served his country during World War II as a member of the U.S. Army, 1st Army, 2nd Division. During his military service, he fought at the Battle of the Bulge with many other honorable veterans. He was discharged on April 12, 1946, after earning the Combat Infantry Badge and various campaign ribbons and medals.
After leaving the Army, Gene joined E.I. DuPont and traveled throughout the world building chemical plants. While working for DuPont in Argentina, he met his beautiful and loving wife of 59 years, Mary Virginia Briggs. They were united in marriage on Dec. 4, 1948, in Wilmington.
Gene and Mary created a great family that included their sons Nathan Cagle Jr. of Sea Bright, N.J., Karl Cagle of Fairfax, Va., and Kenneth Cagle of St. Marys, Ga. His extended family included Nate’s wife Linda, Karl’s wife Kathy, and Ken’s wife Linda. He was loved and adored by his sons, their wives, together with his granddaughters Kristin, Ashley and Caroline and his grandsons Brian, Brian’s wife Sara, Scott and Kristopher; and his great-granddaughters Chloe and Ellie.
Gene had a long career as a member of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 74. He retired in 1981 and enjoyed 28 years living in Lewes. Gene loved fishing, working in his bountiful garden, spending time with family and friends, and Mary’s cooking.
He will be missed and his memories will live forever in our hearts.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 17, at Groome United Methodist Church, Savannah Road and Dewey Avenue, Lewes.

Deborah A. McCray,
dietician aide
Deborah A. “Debbie” McCray, 49, of near Georgetown, died Thursday, Nov. 8, 2007, at home.
Debbie was born Oct. 1, 1958, in Lewes, to the late James Wise and Minnie Hopkins Bibbins.
She was a dietician aide working for Green Valley Terrace, formerly the Millsboro Nursing Home, for 24 years.
Mrs. McCray attended the Bayshore Community Church in Gumboro. She was a caring, giving person who was friendly to everybody. She loved soap operas and game shows, in particular “Wheel of Fortune,” loved shopping for shoes and clothes, and she loved parties.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a daughter, Denikia Hopkins; and granddaughter, Tionna White.
Debbie is survived by her husband of 12 years, Reuben McCray; a son, Jackie Hopkins of Georgetown; a daughter, Sheena Hopkins of Georgetown; three brothers, James Hopkins of Salisbury, Md., Ronald Hopkins of Rehoboth, and Tyrone Hopkins of Millsboro; two sisters, Delphine Williams of Millsboro, and Vanessa Hopkins Grey of Georgetown; six grandchildren; and her canine companion, Sadie Mae McCray.
Services will be at noon, Thursday, Nov. 15, at the Dickerson Chapel A.M.E. Church, Route 113 south of Millsboro, where friends may call at 11 a.m. Friends may also call from 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 14, at the Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington St., Millsboro.
Pastor Sam Dennis will officiate the service.
Interment will be private.

Richard G. Ladbrook,
retired welder
Richard G. Ladbrook, 75, of Millsboro, formerly of Ocean View, passed away Sunday, Nov. 11, 2007, at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes. He was born Jan. 29, 1932, in Baltimore, Md., son of the late Richard and Loretta Phelps Ladbrook. He was a certified welder with the Bethlehem Steel Co. in Baltimore, retiring after 32 years of service. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving with the U.S. Army. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 7234 of Ocean View.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 32 years, Janet Friedel Ladbrook in 1992.
He is survived by three sons, Richard Ladbrook and his wife Paula, Kevin Ladbrook and his wife Jennifer, and Aaron Ladbrook and his wife Donna; three daughters, Deborah Fertig and her husband Wayne, Wanda Snyder and her husband Jim, and Laura Starner and her husband Ricky; 13 grandchildren, Richard Ladbrook, Daniel Ladbrook, Christopher Ladbrook, Andrew Neidert, Brandon Ladbrook, Brittany Ladbrook, Jessica Ladbrook, Wayne Fertig Jr. and his wife Debra, Ryan Miller and his wife Alison, William Mercer and his wife Lindsey, Grant Snyder, Amber Starner, and Ricky Starner Jr.; seven great-grandchildren, Karlin Fertig, Trinity and Autumn Mercer, Jonathon and Steven Cocho, Robert and Melanie Bedaliance; and a sister, Betty Wilhoit.
A visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 13, at the Frankford chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 43 Thatcher St., Frankford, DE 19945.
Burial will be private.

Helen Keaveney Arns,
retired bookkeeper
Helen Keaveney Arns of Milton, formerly of Fallston, Md., died Friday, Nov. 9, 2007, at her residence.
Mrs. Arns was born in Elizabeth, N.J., daughter of William Patrick and Julia Monahan Keaveney.
She was a graduate of Battin High School.
She had formerly been employed as a bookkeeper for Thomas & Betts Power Co. in Newark, N.J. She was a full-time homemaker, devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved spending time with her family.
Mrs. Arns was a member of St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church in Lewes.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles G. Arns, in 1985; and two brothers, William P. Keaveney II and Joseph Keaveney.
Mrs. Arns is survived by four daughters, Gerri J. Smith and her husband Doug of Forest Hill, Md., Janet Ray and her husband John of Milton, Barbara Arns and her husband Dr. Thomas Shaner of Hughesville, Pa., and Susan A. Adams and her husband Robert of Camden; six grandchildren, Christopher and Jackie Barbour, Nicholas and Allison Adams, Samantha Smith and Charles Shaner; two brothers, Edward Keaveney of South River, N.J., and Donald Keaveney of Roselle, N.J.; and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 13, at St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church, Del. 1 at Five Points, Lewes, with Father Jim Hreha officiating.
Interment will be private in Bel Air Memorial Gardens, Bel Air, Md.

Bernard G. Morgan Jr.,
Millsboro resident
Bernard “Butch” G. Morgan Jr., 62, of Millsboro, and formerly of Wilmington, passed away Thursday, Nov. 8, 2007, at home.
He is survived by two sons, Brian Morgan and his wife Jackie, Robert Morgan and his fiancée JoAnn; a daughter, Denise Dancy and her husband Robert; seven grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and his loving and devoted companion, Ruth Morgan.
A memorial service was held at the Long Neck Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, Millsboro.

Harry E. Shockley,
gifted singer
Harry E. Shockley, 77, of Lincoln, passed away peacefully on the morning of Saturday, Nov. 3, 2007, in the Heartland Hospice House, Newark. He was just three weeks away from his 78th birthday.
Mr. Shockley was born Nov. 21, 1930, in Lincoln, son of the late Elmore and Hattie Shockley.
He resided in the area and completed his education at Slaughter Neck Junior High School.
Mr. Shockley accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church under the pastorate of the late Rev. J.O. Lockman.
He worked at the Milford Chicken Factory and did various jobs throughout the community.
Mr. Shockley met Betty Brown and had one son out of the union.
Singing was a great part of his Christian life. He especially loved to sing with his family and friends. His favorite songs were, “Jesus Keep Me Near the Cross,” “This Little Light of Mine” and “Somebody Pray for Me.”
After the passing of his mother and father, Mr. Shockley resided with his sister, Argatha Riddick, and later moved to the big city of Wilmington with his devoted niece, Ruth Ann Hazzard.
His immediate survivors include his sister, Argatha Riddick; one son, Richard L. Brown of Lincoln; his nieces, Ruth Ann Hazzard, Grace Young, Nettie Brown, Vanessa Lassiter and Dorthea Miller; his nephews, Cecil Shockley, Lance White and Henry White Jr.; a sister-in-law, Mary Shockley of Lincoln; five grandchildren, Daren Morris, Tasha Piper, Darius Johnson, Rochelle Weaver and Richard L. Thomas; four great-grandchildren; 17 grandnieces and grandnephews; 18 great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews; and a host of family and friends.
Services were held at Wesley Chapel Church, Lincoln, with burial private.

John S. Moore,
computer tech
John S. Moore, 44, of North Troy, Vt., and formerly of Dover, died suddenly Saturday, Sept. 27, 2007, at his home.
John was born Nov. 25, 1962, in Dover, son of the late J. Stuart and Shirley M. (Boyer) Moore.
He made his living working in the computer technology field.
In his spare time, John enjoyed taking cars and trucks apart and (sometimes) putting them back together.
As a child, he spent many happy hours at his Pop-Pop’s shop, Johnny The Tailor.
John was a sweet and loving child who grew into a soft-spoken man with a gentle spirit.

Boyer of Dover; and an uncle, Donald Boyer of Hockessin.
John is survived by two aunts, Barbara A. (Boyer) Brown of Camden and Jerry Boyer of Hockessin; an uncle, Royal L. Boyer and his wife Lily of Lewes; his cousins, Donnie, Susan, Patti, Lisa, Kathy, Kelly, Karen and Gail and their respective families; as well as numerous close friends.
A private memorial service will be held at Silver Lake Cemetery Saturday, Nov. 17.

Gladys Mae Long,

Gladys Mae Long, 58, of Milford, died of natural causes Saturday, Nov. 3, 2007, in Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital.
Ms. Long was born July 22, 1949, in North Carolina.
She was a member of Greater Love Temple Church, Milford.
Ms. Long enjoyed spending time with loved ones, knitting and cooking for her family, friends and the neighborhood children. She especially enjoyed talking to her most favorite cousins, Dorothy Gibbs and Sandra Dandridge, as well as a dear and special friend, John Belfield.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Charity Wilson Long; a brother, Harold Hayes; a sister, Cynthia Long; and an uncle, Aaron Jones.
She is survived by four sons, Samuel L. Long and his wife Danielle of Millsboro, Nathan M. Long and his companion Anita of Milford, Gerome R. Long of Georgetown and Jason E. Long and his wife Tykeisha of Laurel; a daughter-in-law, Shelly T. Long of Lincoln; a sister, Shirley A. Perry of Milton; five brothers, George Long of Milton, Gregory Long of Smyrna, James Long of Darby, Pa., Charles Long and his wife Carolyn of Georgetown and Timothy R. Long of Milton; 15 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services were held Saturday, Nov. 10, at Greater Love Temple Church, Milford.
Burial was at Old Hickory Cemetery, Lincoln.

Marie N. Adduci,
retired teacher
Marie N. Finney Adduci, 69, of Millsboro, and formerly of Philadelphia, died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2007, at Lewes Convalescent Center, Lewes.
Mrs. Adduci was born Oct. 12, 1938 in Pungoteague, Va., to the late Benjamin and Marie Horsey Finney.
She was a teacher in Philadelphia, where she worked with troubled and special needs children; she also mentored other teachers in the same field. She also worked a few years at Stockley Center, near Georgetown.
She retired and moved back to Millsboro in May 1995. She earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Antioch College in Philadelphia, and she was pursuing her master’s degree when she was called to the ministry. She ministered in many different churches doing home visitations and participating in conferences with fellowship churches.
Mrs. Adduci was the First Lady of Jesus Ministries, Inc. She was a member of Lighthouse Church in Wyoming, Del. and the Deliverance Church in Philadelphia.
She is survived by her husband of 12 years, Joseph P. Adduci; a son, Ernest Anthony Finney and his close friend Regina Bush of Georgetown; a brother, James B. Finney of Millsboro; a sister, Jeanette L. Finney of Millsboro; a nephew, Alfonzo Sample; her nieces, Monica Kelly, Angelica Finney, Amy Kellam and April Thacker; her great-nephews, Larmar Finney, James Finney, Fulton Holland Jr. and Orlando Kelly Jr.; and many friends and church brothers and sisters.
Services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 14, at the St. John’s 2nd Baptist Church, Mount Joy, near Millsboro.
Friends may call one hour before the service. Interment will be in the adjoining church cemetery.

Johnny M. Malone,
St. Jude member
Johnny Michael Malone, 27, of Harbeson, died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2007, at his residence in Harbeson after a lifetime battle with leukemia.
Johnny was a member of St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church of Lewes. He was involved with the Consortium of Rehoboth Beach and was an assembler at the Chimes Workshop in Millsboro. 

He is survived by his parents John Malone and Miriam "Mimi" (Hanrahan) Malone of Harbeson; two brothers, Jason Malone and Daniel Malone, both of Harbeson; paternal grandfather, John J. Malone of Lewes; an uncle, David Malone, M. D. and his wife Nancy Hykel-Malone, M. D. of Newton Square, Pa.; an uncle, John Hanrahan and his wife Tonie of Georgia; an aunt, Barbara Ann Jarrell and her husband David of Lewes; and an aunt, Diane Farrow and her husband Thomas of Lewes.    

Johnny was predeceased by his paternal grandmother, Dolores (Sienia) Malone; and maternal grandparents John and Marie Hanrahan.

Prayer services will be held at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at St. Peter's Cemetery, Pilottown Road in Lewes.

Bertram E. Abrahart,
lobster fisherman
Bertram Edward Abrahart, 67, died Monday, Oct. 22, 2007, at Woodside Hospice in St. Petersburg, Fla.
He was born in London, England, and immigrated to America in 1966 with his wife Peggy and three small daughters, settling in Wilmington, but the ocean called him to Lewes where he became a lobster fisherman with friends Bill Rice and Bob Dorman.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Peggy Abrahart; daughters, Debra Ten Eyck and her husband Gregg, and Jacquline Abrahart; four grandchildren, Rick Cooper, Shannon Cooper, Kyle TenEyck and Lynsey Abrahart; and a sister-in-law, Pat Henrick and her husband John.
A daughter, Susanne Abrahart, was killed by a drunk driver at age 14 in 1976.
A memorial service will be held at the Lewes-Rehoboth Moose Lodge 646 on Route 9, west of Lewes, at a later date.

Winfield W. Jackson,
retired truck driver
Winfield W. “Winnie” Jackson, 81, of Millsboro, died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2007, at home.
He was born on March 24, 1926, in Millsboro, to the late Isaac E. and Edna L. Clark Jackson.
Mr. Jackson was a truck driver for a moving company for many years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II serving in the Pacific Theatre.
Mr. Jackson was a member of Harmony U.M. Church, Millsboro. He loved Bible study and reading his Bible; he loved Leolga’s meals and his favorite place to eat was the Country Kitchen where he went every morning for breakfast when he was able.
He was loved by his family and he loved his family dearly; he kept everybody in the family informed on how the rest of the family was doing and how they were doing.
Winnie will be fondly remembered by everyone for the memories of the way he cared for his mother.
Mr. Jackson was preceded in death by a brother, Emery E. Jackson on Oct. 27, 2007, and two sisters, Kathleen Wright in 1995 and Clarice Tomasso in 2006.
He is survived by two brothers, the Rev. Carl Jackson of Millsboro and Isaac Jackson of Dover; three sisters, Minerva Street of Mantua, N.J., Vera C. Morris of Lewes and Joan J. Martin of Washington, D.C.; many nieces and nephews; and every other special friend. which was everyone he ever met.
Services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Friday, Nov. 9, at the Watson Funeral Home, 211 S. Washington St., Millsboro, with the Rev. Claudia Waters officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the services.
Interment will be in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Patriot’s Way, Millsboro.

Benjamin B. Wheatley Jr.,
retired supervisor
Benjamin Brooks Wheatley Jr., 65, loving husband of Linda Wheatley of Waynesboro, Va., died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2007, in the Augusta Medical Center, Fishersville, Va.
He was born Feb. 6, 1942 in Milford, a son of Benjamin Brooks and Dorothy Ruth Davis Wheatley.
Mr. Wheatley was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Prior to retirement, he was employed by E. I. DuPont as a supervisor for 41 years.
He was an active member of Ruritan National Organization, the Virginia Thoroughbred Association, the U. S. Trotting Association and he was an avid horseman.
In addition to his wife, family members include three sons and a daughter-in-law, Benjamin Brooks Wheatley III, Scott Davis Wheatley, and Trey and Donna Hardesty; two daughters and sons-in-law, Donna Jill and Terrance Williams and Donna and Dale Sheets; four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Jane C. and Jerome Love of Seaford, Caroline W. and Bob Clayville of Bridgeville, Cathie Jo and Cecil Jones of Laurel, and Dorothy E. Wheatley of Bridgeville; grandchildren, Jessica Wheatley, Ian Wheatley Bryant, Terrance Williams Jr., Colin Williams, Kari Williams, Jayson Williams, Hunter Hardesty, Cody Sheets, and Cole Sheets; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday Nov. 10, at Union United Methodist Church, Market Street, Bridgeville, with Pastor Dale Brown officiating. Interment will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday Nov, 13, at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro.

Linda Baker,

Linda Marie McCabe Baker, 58, of Millsboro, formerly of Newark, died Sunday, Nov. 4, 2007.
Ms. Baker was born in Wilmington on March 27, 1949. A telephone operator by profession, she retired from Verizon in Wilmington after over 30 years of service. She was active with Cokesbury Church in Georgetown. Ms. Baker will be lovingly remembered by family and friends as a caring, compassionate and kind person who truly possessed a heart of gold.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Marie A. Magee McCabe; and by a son, Shawnee Baker.
She is survived by her son, George H. Baker Jr. of Georgetown; father, Rollin P. McCabe Jr. of Newark; granddaughter, Arieanna Marie O’Donnell; sister, Diane R. McCabe Lawhead and husband Bill of Newark; niece, Nikole Irelan and husband Dan of Newark; nephew, Chris Lawhead of Newark; paternal grandmother, Mary Agnes McCabe Talley and husband Harlon of Fenwick Island; and aunt and uncle, Nancy Richards Reed and Jim Reed of Milton.
A funeral service was held Thursday, Nov. 8, with interment in the adjoining memorial park.

David Eldred Mumford,

David Eldred Mumford, 49, of Milton, died Thursday, Sept. 13, 2007.
Born in Berlin, Md., he was the son of the late Eldred Mumford and Viola Florence Green Mumford.
Mr. Mumford had worked for many years at Animal Services Lab and for the Harrison Group in their maintenance division.
He had also volunteered at local soup kitchens.
Mr. Mumford is survived by his wife, Constance Ann Phippin Mumford; and three sons, David Mumford and his wife Veronica of Millsboro, Matthew Mumford of Berlin and Christopher Mumford of Milton; six grandchildren, Austin, Trenton, Marshall, William, Michael and Merric Mumford; three sisters, Melody Stevens and her husband Joseph of Havre de Grace, Md., Nancy Dellinger of Kingsville, Md., and Ruth Sharon Mumford of Cambridge, Md.; and several aunts uncles, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 13, in Burbage Funeral Home in Berlin.
Interment will be in Bowen Cemetery in Newark.

Rodolf Manzione,
World War II veteran
Rodolf (Rudolph) Manzione of Dagsboro, 85, lovingly known as “Pop,” passed away Monday, Oct. 29, 2007, at his home.
He was born Nov. 2, 1922, in Portsmouth, Va.
He was a World War II combat veteran and a proud member of the Army’s 29th infantry Blue and Gray division.
He participated in several battles including D-Day, Omaha Beach, Normandy, St. Lo, Vire, Brest, Julich/Roer River, Muchen Gladbach, Rhine River/Elbe River and others.
After World War II, Mr. Manzione moved to Baltimore and worked as a carpenter for Welsh Construction and Regional Management Co. and retired to Dagsboro in 1985.
Mr. Manzione was preceded in death by his parents, Rodolph Manzione and Louise Lagenstra Manzione; and his brother, Victor J. Manzione.
He is survived by a daughter, Marlene Y. Fletcher of Fruitland, Md.; three grandchildren, Robert “Mike” Bennett of Millsboro, Matthew A. Davenport of Salisbury, Md., and Angela Arcement of Fruitland; eight great-grandchildren; and many friends.
Memorial services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Friday, Nov. 16, at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro.

He was born in Millsboro, son of the late Medford and Edna Cooper Franklin.
He was a retired carpenter.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Laury Franklin; two sons, Jerry D. Frances Joseph Wilgus,

Frances Joseph Wilgus, 88, of San Jose, Calif., and formerly of Georgetown, passed away Monday, Oct. 29, 2007, at El Camino Hospital in Mountain View, Calif.
She was born in Lewes, the daughter of the late John Edward and Clara Prettyman Joseph.
Mrs. Wilgus was a homemaker.
She was a longtime member and had been very active in St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Georgetown.
In addition to her parents, Mrs.Wilgus was preceded in death by her husband, Rodney Wilgus in 1998.
She is survived by a daughter, Janelle Hickey and her husband Mike of San Jose, Calif.; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 17, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Cemetery, Pine and Academy streets, Georgetown.

Dr. Jane Burkhardt,
noted physician
Janie Mae Millwood Burkhardt, 88, died on Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2007.
A daughter of the deep South, Dr. Burkhardt graduated from Oglethorp University in Georgia, where she met and later married Robert Burkhardt. In 1942, she and her small family moved to Washington, D.C .
She began her distinguished career on Capitol Hill and was present there when Harry S. Truman was inaugurated.
She took a position at the National Institutes of Mental Health in Bethesda, Md., and next at Chestnut Lodge, in Rockville, Md. as a research assistant, which sparked Dr. Burkhardt’s interest in mental health.
In the 1950s she began to pursue a doctorate in educational psychology first at American University and then at George Washington University, all the while devoting most of her time to raising her two daughters.
When her girls were nearly grown and the doctorate within reach, she began counseling students at the George Washington University Counseling Services, where she remained through the 1960s and early 1970s.
In the early 1970s Dr. Burkhardt and her husband moved to West Virginia, where she accepted a position counseling veterans at the Veterans Administration in Martinsburg.
During that time period she founded the first chapter of NOW in the Eastern Panhandle and spent much time working for women’s rights, serving on the Governor’s Advisory Board for women’s affairs. In the early 1990s she and her husband retired to Lewes Beach, where she began the Quakertown Counseling Center.
Throughout her life, she remained devoted to women’s issues, from rape counseling to battered women’s shelters.
She is survived by two daughters, Beth Burkhardt and Evelyn Ogden, and a granddaughter, Leigh Anderson.

John Meyers Schaffer died Friday, Nov. 2, 2007. Mr. Schaffer was the former husband of Louisa M. Schaffer, the dear father of Ruth Ann Carroll, John H. Schaffer, Jean S. Schaffer; dear father-in-law of Mark Carroll, Robin Schaffer, Paula Schaffer and John Goldbeck Jr.; dear grandfather of Kathryn and Ryan Sorestad, Matthew Carroll, Jonathan and Jenna Schaffer, Jennifer and Jerry Pierson, Michelle Schaffer and the late Christine Schaffer; the devoted great-grandfather of Taylor Marie, Christian and Tucker Pierson; devoted brother of Quinton A. Schaffer Jr. and his wife Shirley; devoted uncle of Barbara Schaffer and Q.A. “Skip” Schaffer III; and survived by many devoted friends in Baltimore and Rehoboth Beach.

Rehoboth Realtor
Virginia Joy, 91, formerly of Rehoboth Beach, peacefully began her life in eternity, Sunday, Oct. 28, 2007.
She resided at Cokesbury Village, Hockessin, for the last 20 years. Virginia celebrated her 91st birthday October 13, 2007.
Virginia traveled extensively throughout the world, for several years serving aboard the Matson Lines in the South Pacific. She enjoyed a varied real estate career in New Castle County, Kent County and eventually became sales manager for Anderson Stokes in Rehoboth Beach. In 1966, she opened Virginia Joy, Realtors, in Rehoboth Beach, which she sold out to her associate, Patricia Campbell-White, in 1981, when Virginia retired. In 1974, she partnered with Patterson-Schwartz Associates of New Castle County in providing sales and management services for The Henlopen condominiums, Rehoboth Beach.
A member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Rehoboth Beach, Virginia served as president of the Rehoboth Beach Chamber of Commerce, and in 1974 was president of the Delaware Association of Realtors and a member of the board of directors of the National Association of Realtors. In 1974, she served as a member of the Delaware Tomorrow Commission for the state of Delaware.
Born in Pittsburgh, Pa., in 1916, Virginia was preceded in death by her father, Henry Grady Joy in 1919, and her mother, Alice Cox Joy in 1985. Having no immediate family members, she is survived by her friend and former business associate, Patricia Campbell-White and her husband, Donald C. White of Rehoboth Beach.
A memorial service will be conducted by the Rev. John Dean, at Cokesbury Village, Community Room, Level A, Hockessin, at 2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 10. Interment will be private. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence Pitts and Marjorie Williams.
Survivors include her husband of 43 years, Henry E. Purnell Sr.; children, Kim L. Purnell of Orlando Fla., Phillip Purnell of Wilmington, Henry Purnell Jr. of Seaford, and Henry Purnell III of Wilmington; brothers, Vincent Davis Sr. and wife Nancy of Frankford, Calvin Davis and wife Jennie of Campbell Town, Md., and Jeffrey Taylor of Lewes; sisters, Debra Taylor of Millsboro, Janet Johnson of Pasadena, Md., and Pamela Davis of Frankford; six grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Margaret was a homemaker. She graduated from Worcester High School in Snow Hill, Md. She enjoyed reading, cooking and traveling.

John S. Weiant,
retired drywall mechanic
John S. Weiant, 84, of New Castle, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2007, at the Veterans Medical Center in Elsmere.
Born in Wilmington, he was the son of the late John D. and Ida Brown Weiant. Mr. Weiant served his country faithfully in the U.S. Army during World War II and in Korea. John had been employed in the construction field as a drywall mechanic.
He was predeceased by two sisters, Lilian Fleming and Charlotte Barzak. Left to cherish his memory are his siblings, Richard Weiant of New Castle, Betty Garcia of New Castle, Carolin Smith of Smyrna, Katherine Maichle of Rehoboth, Doris Waters of Mobile, Ala., Roy Weiant of Middletown, Charles Weiant of Bear; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Edna Romano,
retired cafeteria manager
Edna Romano, 102, of Millcroft Manor in Newark, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, Nov. 1, 2007.
She was quite the seamstress and made most of the shirts and dresses for her children. When grandchildren came along, she made the girls beautiful smocked dresses. She was manager of the Bayard School Cafeteria until retiring in 1968. After retiring, Edna helped as one of the founding members of the Clarence Fraim Senior Center. She served as a board member, took classes and taught sewing. She advocated exercise and especially water aerobics, which she did for 33 years. Since moving to Millcroft, she exercised with a group five days a week and encouraged others to join with her. She was a member of Silverbrook United Methodist church until moving to Millcroft, where she then attended church services.
She was predeceased by her husband, John Romano; a son, Laurence Smith; and a sister, Ann Pitts. She is survived by three daughters, Alice Eileen Simione and Mary Edna Krejci, both of Wilmington; and Joan Lester and her husband Bailey of Lewes; two sons, Donald R. Romano and his wife Joan of Collegeville, Pa., and John Romano of Wilmington; a sister, Dorothy Lane; and a brother, Joseph Lane, both of Wilmington; 19 grandchildren and many, many great- and great- great-grandchildren.

James R. Daggett, 83, of Bear, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 1, 2007.
Mr. Daggett was born in Lancaster, Pa., to Estella G. and James G. Daggett.
He served in the Army during World War II. He retired from Boeing Vertol Corp. in Ridley Park, Pa., after more than 30 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his sister Frances A. Hoover, and grandson Matthew R. Daggett.
He will be sadly missed by his wife of 55 years, Jean M. Daggett; his sons, William B. Daggett of New Castle, and Mark L. Daggett and his wife Jennifer of Newark; and his daughter, Mary E. Lawson and her husband Kirk of Harbeson; a granddaughter, Kristen L. Daggett, and a grandson Robert W. Lawson; his sisters, Harriet E. Chassereau of Millsboro and Ruth M. Baker of England; and many nieces and nephews.

Helen E. “Pat” Borcherding, 77, of Lewes, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, Nov. 1, 2007.
Mrs. Borcherding was born in Baltimore on May 29, 1930, daughter of Isaac Green and Ella Wells.
A loving childcare provider for 25 years, Mrs. Borcherding touched the lives of many children and families.
She and her husband, Ed, loved to travel and saw much of the United States.
Mrs. Borcherding was a great cook and cake baker, kept a spotless home and loved to be surrounded by family and friends.
She gave much more than she ever received.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Edward F. Borcherding; sons, Robert A. Hamilton of Millsboro, Dr. Edward J. Hamilton and his wife Pamela of Roanoke, Va., and R. Dale Hamilton and his wife Kathleen of Dover; grandchildren, Jeff, Chris, Kristin, Scott, Kevin, James, Jerry, Jake, Kirby and Andrew; seven great-grandchildren; her sister, Dolores Harper and husband John “Bud” of Lewes; her brother, James F. Green and wife Patsy of Murray, Ky.; and four nephews.

Daniel W. “Dan the Man” Harvey, 56, of Dover, died suddenly Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2007.
Daniel was born July 14, 1951, in Dover, son of Ethel L. Harvey and the late John A. Harvey Sr.
He was a carpenter/painter perfectionist who loved to restore historical homes.
He also loved the beach, fishing, taking photographs and working in his yard.
Danny was preceded in death by his father and best friend, John A. Harvey Sr.; and a brother, William “Bill” Harvey.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sharon M. Harvey of Dover, whom he lovingly referred to as “Fuzzball”; his mother, Ethel L. Harvey of Dover; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Ethel “Buzzy” and Donald Moore of Dover and Bonnie and Walter Kulhanek of Florida; two brothers, John A. Harvey Jr. and his companion Judy Harloff of Dover and Francis Harvey and his wife Ruth of Magnolia; a daughter, Michelle England, her husband, George, and their three children, George, Joshua and Jayson, all of Lewes; two stepsons, William R. Moore of Magnolia and Brandon J. Moore and his fiancée, Kristeena M. Burger, both of Dover; two aunts, Helen Daniels and Irene Harvey, both of Dover; several nieces and nephews; and a very good friend, Fred Harrison.

Diamond State retiree
Lyle M. Short, age 85, of Long Neck, and formerly of Georgetown and Dover, died peacefully on Saturday, Nov. 3, 2007, at Brandywine Assisted Living in Rehoboth Beach.
Mrs. Short was a retired telephone operator with the Diamond State Telephone Co. and a dedicated housewife and mother. She was an active member of Long Neck United Methodist church as long as her health permitted and enjoyed handicrafts and playing golf.
She was predeceased by her husband, Harold B. Short in 1999.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Harold Jr. and his wife, Pat of Sarasota, Fla. and Donald and his wife, Dianne of Millsboro; four grandchildren, David, Darren, Juli and Michael; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was a retired bookkeeper.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, William A. Abrams Jr.

Born in Wilmington, he was employed in the painting industry in the Lewes area for many years.
Mr. Nelson was a former post commander of the American Legion Post 17, Lewes, and he was an avid fisherman.
He is survived by his daughter, Karen D. Menchaca and her husband Tom of Pleasanton, Texas; a granddaughter, Dana Douglas, also of Pleasanton; his loving companion of 32 years, Greta McCrocklin of Lewes; her children, Andrew and Patti McCrocklin; and her grandchildren, Erin Graza and Rachel McCrocklin, all of Springfield, Va.

Kay M. Laurenzi, 79, of Rehoboth Beach, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, Oct. 28, 2007, surrounded by her family.
Born in Marcus Hook, Pa., Mrs. Laurenzi loved going to the Gull House in Rehoboth.
She was predeceased by her husband, Francis A. Laurenzi, by her son, Michael, and by her daughter, Paula. Mrs. Laurenzi is survived by her daughters, Toni Laurenzi of Elsmere and Denise Laurenzi, her caretaker with whom she lived; her sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Cathy of Wilmington, Terry and Kim of Millsboro, and Francis Jr. and Becky of Odessa; 10 grandchildren, Michelle, Gary Jr., Paul, Stacey, Holly, Brian, Michael, Tracey, Nicky and Emily; and five great-grandchildren.

Helene Obertyschew,
retired seamstress
Helene Obertyschew, 83, of Wilmington, passed away on Oct. 29, 2007.
Mrs. Obertyschew was born in Russia. After World War II, she lived in Germany before immigrating to the United States in 1953. Helene worked as a seamstress for many years in the Wilmington area, retiring in 1987. She loved her family and will be dearly missed by all. She was a homemaker and enjoyed working in her garden. She was also very active in St. Michael’s Orthodox Church in Wilmington for over 50 years, volunteering her time to many church activities.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Vasily Obertyschew; her children, Olga Maloney and her husband John of Newark, and Alexander Piragow of Lewes; her grandchildren, Diane and her husband Irenee, David and his wife Dawn, Janice and Adam, all of Delaware. She is also survived by six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Nov. 2, in the McCrery Memorial Chapel, 3710 Kirkwood Highway at Duncan Road, where family and friends may call at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery, Wilmington.

Bertram Edward Abrahart,
lobster fisherman
Bertram Edward Abrahart, 67, died Monday, Oct. 22, 2007, at Woodside Hospice in St. Petersburg, Fla.
He was born in London, England, and immigrated to America in 1966 with his wife Peggy and three small daughters, settling in Wilmington, but the ocean called him to Lewes where he became a lobster fisherman with friends Bill Rice and Bob Dorman.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Peggy Abrahart; daughters, Debra Ten Eyck and her husband Gregg, and Jacquline Abrahart; four grandchildren, Rick Cooper, Shannon Cooper, Kyle TenEyck and Lynsey Abrahart; and a sister, Pat Henrick and her husband John.
A daughter, Susanne Abrahart, was killed by a drunk driver at age 14 in 1976.
A memorial service will be held at the Lewes-Rehoboth Moose Lodge 646 at a later date.

George William Vest, 78, of Rehoboth Beach, was born May 7, 1929, to Marion and Fred Vest in Austin, Minn. He died Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2007, at Beebe Medical Center, Lewes.
George is survived by Jeane Meade Vest, his wife of more than 41 years; his brother, James Weston Vest; his brother-in-law, John Meade and his wife Jenny; a sister-in-law, Patsy Meade; his nieces, Linda Vest Klein, Lisbeth Vest Armstrong, Martha Robb Vest and Barbara Meade Carney; a nephew, Jimmy Meade; and numerous grandnephews and grandnieces.
George graduated from Austin High School and earned a bachelor of arts from Carleton College, Northfield, Minn., before he entered the U.S. Navy in 1951.
He attained the rank of lieutenant junior grade. He then served in the U.S. Naval Reserve until 1966.
George then taught junior high and high school math in Illinois and Massachusetts.
He was active in the Kiwanis and in his church choir.
George was an avid golfer and animal lover who had a joke and a smile for every occasion.
He was a gentle and loving man whose life will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Friday, Nov. 2, at All Saints’ Episcopal Church, 18 Olive Ave., Rehoboth Beach. The Rev. Christopher Moore will be officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to All Saints’ Episcopal Church.

Grace R. Bush,
Sussex homemaker
Grace R. Bush, 82, of Lewes, passed away Thursday Nov. 1, 2007, with her loving family at her bedside, at the Milford Center in Milford. 
She was born on April 26, 1925, in Millsboro, daughter of the late John W. Rogers and Julia Sockriter Rogers. She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas W. Bush in October 2005, and her daughter, Julia Ann Pavalis in 1978.
Survivors include a daughter, Patsy McNatt of Smyrna; two sons, Thomas D. Bush of Geogetown and Virgil Bush of Spanoway, Wash.; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services wil be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 3, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes. Burial will be at Henlopen Memorial Park, near Milton.

retired bookkeeper
Joan P. Abrams, 58, of Millsboro, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2007, at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford.
She was born in Jamaica, New York, daughter of the late William and Anna Develin Abrams.
She was a retired bookkeeper.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, William A. Abrams Jr.
Joan is survived by her loving husband, Joseph P. Collis; a brother, Anthony Abrams; and a sister, Mary Ann Campbell.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 3, at the chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 32013 Long Neck Road, Millsboro, where friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday evening, Nov. 2. Burial will be private.

Rodney Allan Nelson,
avid fisherman
Rodney Allan Nelson, 80, of Lewes passed away Saturday, Oct. 27, 2007, at his residence. He was 80.
Born in Wilmington, he was employed in the painting industry in the Lewes area for many years.
Mr. Nelson was a former post commander of the American Legion Post 17, Lewes, and he was an avid fisherman.
He is survived by his daughter, Karen D. Menchaca and her husband Tom of Pleasanton, Texas; a granddaughter, Dana Douglas, also of Pleasanton; his loving companion of 32 years, Greta McCrocklin of Lewes; her children, Andrew and Patti McCrocklin; and her grandchildren, Erin Graza and Rachel McCrocklin, all of Springfield, Va.
All services are private.

Pennsylvania native
Kay M. Laurenzi, 79, of Rehoboth Beach, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, Oct. 28, 2007, surrounded by her family.
Born in Marcus Hook, Pa., Mrs. Laurenzi loved going to the Gull House in Rehoboth.
She was predeceased by her husband, Francis A. Laurenzi, by her son, Michael, and by her daughter, Paula. Mrs. Laurenzi is survived by her daughters, Toni Laurenzi of Elsmere and Denise Laurenzi, her caretaker with whom she lived; her sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Cathy of Wilmington, Terry and Kim of Millsboro, and Francis Jr. and Becky of Odessa; 10 grandchildren, Michelle, Gary Jr., Paul, Stacey, Holly, Brian, Michael, Tracey, Nicky and Emily; and five great-grandchildren.
Friends are invited to visitation, 6-8 p.m., Friday, Nov. 2, at Mealey Funeral Home, Limestone and Milltown roads, Wilmington. Funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 3, at the funeral home. Entombment will follow at Cathedral Cemetery, Wilmington.

Helene Obertyschew,
retired seamstress
Helene Obertyschew, 83, of Wilmington, passed away on Oct. 29, 2007.
Mrs. Obertyschew was born in Russia. After World War II, she lived in Germany before immigrating to the United States in 1953. Helene worked as a seamstress for many years in the Wilmington area, retiring in 1987. She loved her family and will be dearly missed by all. She was a homemaker and enjoyed working in her garden. She was also very active in St. Michael’s Orthodox Church in Wilmington for over 50 years, volunteering her time to many church activities.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Vasily Obertyschew; her children, Olga Maloney and her husband John of Newark, and Alexander Piragow of Lewes; her grandchildren, Diane and her husband Irenee, David and his wife Dawn, Janice and Adam, all of Delaware. She is also survived by six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Nov. 2, in the McCrery Memorial Chapel, 3710 Kirkwood Highway at Duncan Road, where family and friends may call at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery, Wilmington.

Kylee Hope Clobes,
infant daughter
Kylee Hope Clobes, born May 30, 2007, to Michael and Allison Eck Clobes, went to be with our God when she passed away on October 29, 2007, at the Alfred I. DuPont Children’s Hospital in Wilmington. Although Kylee was with us for such a short time, she touched many lives and will be sadly missed by her family and all who knew her.
Surviving are her parents, Michael and Allison Clobes of Georgetown; her brother, Caleb Clobes; her maternal grandparents, Ray and Linda Eck of Newark; her paternal grandmother, Charlotte Clobes of Georgetown; her maternal great-grandmother Lucille Floyd; her paternal great-grandparents, Donald and Mariam Nelson; her aunts, Suzanne Bracceri and her husband Len, and Laurie Ann Conklin and her husband Kevin; her uncle, Robert Clobes and his wife Debra; and several cousins.
A memorial service celebrating Kylee’s life will be held at 4:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 3, at the Lewes Church of Christ, 14904 Coastal Highway, Milton.
In lieu of flowers, Kylee’s family asks that memorial contributions be made in Kylee Hope’s name to Mike and Allison Clobes so that they may provide Alfred I. Dupont Children’s Hospital, Nemours Foundation with a gift in Kylee’s memory.

George W. Shorthose,
truck driver
George W. Shorthose, 66, of Rehoboth Beach and Jefferson City, Mo., died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2007, at St. Mary’s Health Center in Jefferson City.
He served in the U.S. Navy and was an over-the-road truck driver most of his life. He was a member of American Legion Post 17 in Lewes, Lewes-Rehoboth Moose Lodge 646, the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Jefferson City and the VFW in Jefferson City.
He enjoyed fishing, go-kart and stock car racing and singing and playing the guitar. He was also known for making his famous train whistle sound.
He is survived by his wife, Ellen; four children, George Shorthose of Colorado Springs, Colo., Karen Shorthose of Chamois, Mo., and Wendell Shorthose and Grant Shorthose, both of Jefferson City; two stepsons, Allan Rogers of Bear and Mitch Rogers of Millsboro; three brothers, Bill and Herb of Lewes and Patrick of Frankford; four sisters, Norma Rutherford and Verna Roberts of Kansas City, Mo., Shirley Mitchell of Lewes and Mary Lamb of Broken Arrow, Okla.; nine grandchildren; and four stepgrandchildren.
Services were held Oct. 23 at Houser-Millard Funeral Home in Jefferson City.

World War II veteran
Raymond “Kaiser” Harmon Jr., 82, of Milton, departed this life Saturday, Oct. 27, 2007, in his home in Cool Spring.
He attended Faith, Hope & Love Christian Fellowship, Milford.
Mr. Harmon served in the U.S. Navy and was a World War II veteran.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Hattie Jane Harmon; and his father, Raymond Harmon Sr.
Mr. Harmon is survived by his wife, Phyllis Harmon of Millsboro; a stepson, Arthur Morris of Dover; an adopted daughter, Lisa Fisher; two very special friends, Shirley Fisher and Brenda Olson; six sisters and two brothers-in-law, Lillian Drummond, Hazel Milbourne, Ida Mae Brittingham, Frances Hopkins and her husband Melvin, Betty Samples and her husband John, and Lydia Wright; and two brothers and one sister-in-law, William of Bridgeton, N.J., and George and Paulette of Wilmington.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Nov. 2, in Faith, Hope & Love Christian Fellowship, 218 Rehoboth Blvd., Milford, where friends may call at 10 a.m.

Dorothy S. Lynch,
Beebe retiree
Dorothy Souder Lynch, 92, of Seaford, and formerly of Lewes, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, Oct. 25, 2007.
Dorothy was born Sept. 12, 1915, in Telford, Pa. She moved to Lewes in 1939 and resided in Lewes until October 1999 when she moved to the Methodist Manor House in Seaford.
Dorothy was employed at Beebe Medical Center as a nursing assistant in Labor and Delivery until she retired in 1984. Dorothy married Roy Lynch of Lewes in 1984.
In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her first husband of 28 years, Wilmer E. Souder, along with her second husband of 15 years, Roy Lynch. She was also preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters.
She is survived by one sister, Sadie Grass of Pennsylvania; a daughter, Jackie Burton and her husband Don of Lewes; a son, Ronnie Souder and his wife Linda of Georgetown; six grandchildren, Donnie Burton, MariLou Burton Conlin, Steve Burton, Tracy Burton, Heidi Souder Hitchcock and Jonathan Souder; eleven great-grandchildren: C.J. Burton; Katie, Matthew and Elise Conlin; Hannah Burton; Anthony, Rebekah, Timothy and Trey Hitchcock; and Ethan and Julianna Souder.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 10, at Groome United Methodist Church, Dewey Avenue and Savannah road, Lewes. Interment will follow at Henlopen Memorial Park, Route 1, Milton.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Groome U.M. Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 299, Lewes, DE 19958.

hunter, sportsman
Emery E. “Bun” Jackson died Saturday, Oct. 27, 2007, at home.
Bun was a sportsman and hunter who also enjoyed racing, cars and horses. He loved to talk and share with friends. He loved life and everyone around him loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Isaacs Emery and Edna Louise Clark Jackson, his sisters, Kathleen Wright in 1995 and Clarice Tomasso in 2006; and a stepson, Ronald.
He is survived by his brothers, Winfield Jackson of Millsboro, the Rev. Carl Jackson of Millsboro, Delaware and Isaac Jackson of Dover; sisters Minerva Street of Mantua, N.J., Vera C. Morris of Lewes and Joan J. Martin of Washington, D.C.; a stepdaughter, Cathy; and two grandchildren. Services were held at Watson Funeral Home, Millsboro, with burial at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro.
