Anna Marie Johnson, Ellendale homemaker
Anna Marie Johnson, 77, of Ellendale, died Monday, Sept. 22, 2008, in Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, Md.
She attended Gumboro Wesleyan Church.
She was a homemaker who enjoyed reading and crocheting. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Johnson in 2007.
She is survived by her six children, Debbie Willey of Lewes, Wendy Jalot of Wilmington, N.C., William E. Johnson of Ellendale, Jennifer Johnson of Ellendale, Kim Dorman of Gumboro and David Johnson of Ellendale; 14 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be noon, Friday, Sept. 26, in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal St., Milton, where friends may call after 11 a.m.
Burial will be in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro.

Vasily Obertyschew, retired machinist
Vasily Gregory Obertyschew, 91, of Wilmington, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2008.
Vasily was born in Russia. After World War II, he lived in Germany 10 years before immigrating with his family to the United States in 1953. Vasily worked as a carpenter for various home builders including DiSabatino and Magness. He later worked as a machinist for American Can Co. before retiring in 1979.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Helene, in October 2007.
Vasily is survived by his children, Olga Maloney and her husband John of Newark, and Alexander Piragow of Lewes; his grandchildren, Diane duPont and her husband Irenee, David Maloney and his wife Dawn, Adam Piragow, and Janice Mullin.
He is also survived by six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. He touched the lives of all who knew him and he will be dearly missed.
The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, Sept. 26, at St. Michael’s Orthodox Church, 2300 W. Huntington Drive and Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE 19808.

Kimberley A. Blades, school instructor
Kimberley A. Blades, 49, of Denton, Md., died Sunday, Sept. 21, 2008, in her home.
Born in Easton, Md., Mrs. Blades was the daughter of the late Ross A. Allen Sr. and Leona Mae George Allen.
Mrs. Blades was a 1976 graduate of North Caroline High School near Denton.
She had been an employee of Caroline County Public Schools since 1993 as a driver/instructor in the transportation department.
She and her husband, Lee T. (L.T.) Blades Jr. of Denton were married in Thawley’s Chapel in Tuckahoe Neck on Jan. 20, 1979.
She was a member of the Caroline Post 29 American Legion Auxiliary, the Ladies Auxiliary of the Hillsboro-Queen Anne Volunteer Fire Company, the Maryland School Bus Contractor’s Association, the Caroline County L.L.C. and also the Gold Wing Rider’s Association.
She loved cooking, baking and motorcycles. She was always concerned about the welfare of others.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her mother-in-law, Jane D. Blades.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Blades is survived by her two sons, Joshua A. Blades and Jordan B. Blades, both of Denton; one sister, Rhonda A. Johnson and her husband Willis of Lewes; two brothers; her father-in-law, Lee T. Blades Sr. of Denton; a niece, Karen Matthews and her husband Tony and their son Conor, of Laurel; and her sister-in-law, Editha Towers and her husband Russell of Ridgely.
Services were held in the Queen Anne-Hillsboro United Methodist Church in Hillsboro, Md., with burial in the Denton Cemetery.

Mary I. Patterson, enjoyed nature
Mary Isabelle Patterson, 84, died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2008, in her Millsboro home. Mary was born in Lewes, the daughter of the late Harry George and Anna L. Reynolds Metzner. She was a salesperson for Brauns Clothing Store for 10 years. She was a Past Noble Grande member of the Mary Rebekah Lodge. She enjoyed pontooning for crabs and fish and loved looking out at the Indian River at God’s beauty. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Joseph H. Green Jr.; second husband, Edward C. Patterson Jr.; and a brother, Vernon Metzner. She is survived by two children, Saundra Porter and her husband Bruce of Seaford, and Joseph H. Green and his wife Runae of Greenwood; two brothers, Roland H. Metzner and his wife Mary of Milford, and Frank C. Metzner and his wife Lona of Lewes; four grandchildren, Joseph H. Green IV, Tyna Bledsoe, Michael Green and Greg Porter; and four great-grandchildren, Brennen Bledsoe, Kerrigan Bledsoe, Zachary Porter and Aubree Green. Funeral services will be noon, Saturday, Sept. 27, in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Thomas P. Robinson, Delaware River pilot
Thomas Peter Robinson, 76, died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2008, at his home in Rehoboth Beach.
Mr. Robinson was born Aug. 16, 1932, in Lewes, and grew up in Georgetown.
He was the son of Mary Comfort Houston Robinson and Julian Thomas Robinson. He was a 1951 graduate of St. Andrews School in Middletown where he was a member of the crew. Later he attended the University of Delaware where he was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order. On July 1, 1957, he joined the Pilots Association of the Bay and River Delaware and served as a pilot for 45 years before his retirement Aug. 15, 2002. Mr. Robinson was a member of All Saints’ Episcopal Church in Rehoboth Beach and St. George’s Chapel near Angola, where he served on the vestry and as chairman of the cemetery committee. He was a member of the Rehoboth Beach Country Club. He was a blue water sailor and an avid surfer.
He enjoyed gardening, golf, and playing ragtime and classical piano music. He was recognized by the Delaware Department of Agriculture for preservation of his family’s Century Farm near Lewes and by the Delaware Nature Society for his outstanding stewardship of the Great Marsh Natural Area.
Mr. Robinson is survived by his wife, Alice Caroline Pitt Robinson, formerly of Port Deposit, Md., and by his three children, Mary Elisabeth Robinson Monigle and Thomas Peter Robinson Jr., both of Lewes, and Caroline Pitt Robinson Luckett of Buxton, N.C. He is also survived by his two sons-in-law, D. Keith Monigle of Lewes and James “Ty” Luckett of Buxton; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Battle Robinson of Georgetown; and by seven grandchildren, Lucy Elisabeth Monigle, Jackson Keith Monigle, Jeb Thomas Monigle, Kyle Davis Monigle and Chase Robinson Monigle, all of Lewes, and Marlee Taylor Luckett and Lana Katherine Luckett of Buxton. He was predeceased by his sister, Margret Katherine Robinson.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 27, at St. George’s Chapel, Route 23 at Angola, followed by interment in the adjacent churchyard. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, Sept. 26, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes.

Gregory S. Kinney, self-employed painter
Gregory S. Kinney of Rehoboth Beach, 46, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2008, at his home following a courageous battle with lung cancer. Born, raised and educated in Norwood, Pa., he moved to Delaware about 15 years ago, always loving the beach. Greg worked for Pathmark Supermarket in Pennsylvania for 10 years before moving to Delaware. He worked at Midway Fitness Center and became a self-employed painter, and did cleaning and interior design services for 10 years. He was predeceased by his mother, Sarah E. Kinney; and his brother, Robert P. Kinney Jr. Greg is survived by his loving daughter, Amanda Kinney of Rehoboth Beach; her mother, Denene Fay Kinney of Maryland; his best friend, Mike Sing of Rehoboth Beach; a sister, Elizabeth (Chuck) Mararchi of Easton, Pa.; a brother, Jeffrey (Patrice) Kinney of Rutledge, Pa.; his father, Robert P. (Joan) Kinney Sr. of Springfield, Pa.; his maternal aunt and uncle Mr. and Mrs. Knecht of Belfast, Pa.; and stepgrandmother, Ann Sandford. He is also survived by four nephews; one niece; and many dear and special friends. E. Lorraine Lackman, talented quilter
Esther Lorraine Lackman, 89, of Rehoboth Beach, passed away Monday, Sept. 15, 2008, at her residence with family at her side. She was born Sept. 23, 1918, in Springfield, Mass., daughter of the late Henry W. Voudren and Grace Voudren Hannon. Mrs. Lackman was a member of All Saints’ Episcopal Church in Rehoboth Beach and was a talented quilter for her family and friends and her church group the “Sew-Sews.” She was an avid golfer at many golf clubs around the country and most recently at the Rehoboth Beach Country Club. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Longmeadow, Mass., and the ASPCA in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Lewis R. “Rocky” Lackman Sr. in 1999; three brothers, Earl V., Herbert W. and Henry N. Voudren; and seven sisters, Ellen Stanley, Gladys Lehrer, Geneva Schmerier, Virginia Cornine, Constance Stanton, June Eccles and Unice Voudren. She is survived by her daughter, Libby G. Gibson and her husband William of Lewes; three sons, George Lackman and his wife Lois of W. Springfield, Mass., Lewis R. “Rocky” Lackman Jr. and his wife Patricia of Zebulon, N.C., and Scott L. Lackman Sr. and his wife Pamela of Orefield, Pa.; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be at noon, Saturday, Sept. 27, at All Saints’ Episcopal Church, 18 Olive Ave., Rehoboth Beach. Frederick Q. Bramble Sr., 80, of Dover, died Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2008, at Silver Lake Center, Dover. Mr. Bramble was born May 29, 1928, in Bishops Head, Md., to Oneita E. Dayton Bramble and the late Charles T. Bramble. He worked as a meat manager for A&P Markets almost 44 years before retiring in 1990. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and spending time with family and friends. Survivors include his mother, Oneita Bramble of Cambridge, Md.; son Fred Jr. and daughter-in-law Nancy Bramble of Rehoboth Beach; grandsons Jason Bramble of Alameda, Calif., and Zachary Bramble of Santa Rosa, Calif.; four brothers, Emerson and Charles Bramble of Cambridge, Irvin Bramble of Hebron, Md., and Donald Bramble of Tulsa, Okla.; and a sister, Peggy Bramble of Cambridge.

Charles Michael Intrieri, 53, of Millsboro, died Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2008, at Beebe Medical Center, Lewes. He was a plumber for Precise Plumbing in Georgetown. He was a member of American Legion Post 974, New Cumberland, Pa.; AMVETS Post 2, Sussex County; and was an avid pool player, fisherman and Harley rider. He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Michael J. Crosson. In addition to his parents, Clarence J. Intrieri of East Berlin, Pa. and Patricia J. Crosson of York Haven, Pa., he is survived by his companion Lynn White and her daughter Jayme Amoss of Millsboro; four daughters, Joslyn Thomas of Middletown, Somers Compton of Harrisburg, Cortnie Intrieri of Etters, Pa., and Jorden Intrieri of Harrisburg.; five brothers and three sisters, Clarence Intrieri III of York Haven, James Intrieri of Millsboro, Patricia Fishel of Etters, Monica Smiley of Lewisberry, Pa., Derick Rudolph of East Berlin, Michelle Crosson of York Haven, and Michael and James Crosson, both of Philadelphia; and five grandchildren. Bessie L. B. McLain, Rehoboth centenarian
Bessie Leona Brokaw McLain, of Rehoboth Beach, died peacefully Saturday, Sept. 13, 2008, at the home of her daughter, 50 days after celebrating her 107th birthday.
Mrs. McLain was born in Lakewood, N.J., July 25, 1901, daughter of the late Nicholas Brokaw and Josephine Brower Brokaw.
She was born and lived, for more than 100 years, on the same property on Country Line Road in Lakewood, before moving to Rehoboth Beach in 2002.
Mrs. McLain was a waitress for many years, working at the Laurel House, the Manhattan Hotel, Suchow’s Log Cabin and the Sunset Cabin, all located in Lakewood. She retired in 1980.
Mrs. McLain was a lifelong member of the Greenville Methodist Church. After it merged with Lakewood Methodist Church, she continued her membership until her death.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul Brokaw and Freeman Brokaw; two sisters, Sarah Carlson Eisele and Helen Conover, and her husband, Elwyn McClain, who died in 1963.
She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Johnson, and her son in-law, Andrew S. Johnson of Rehoboth Beach, with whom she lived; seven grandchildren, Jeffrey Johnson and his wife Donna of Lyndell, Pa., Laura Myer and her husband Norman of Atmore, Ala., Valerie Dymond and her husband Randy of Blacksburg, Va., Christina Costello and her husband Tom of Havertown, Pa., Johanna Edwards and her husband Russell of Coatesville, Pa., Victor and Daryl Johnson of Glenmore, Pa., and Michael and Beki Johnson of Downingtown, Pa.; 22 great-grandchildren, Jeffrey Johnson and his wife Whitney of Orlando, Fla., Brendan, Douglas and Martin Johnson of Lyndell, Pa., Toby, Josh and Matt Myer of Atmore; Daryl Myer and Jamie Golden of Daphny, Ala., Ben, Salli, Molly and Sara Dymond of Blacksburg, Va., Kerry, Pamela and Maureen Costello of Havertown, Jennifer Bruce and husband Chris of Coatesville, Alex and Gregory Edwards, Corey, Alyssa and Erica Johnson of Glenmore, and Michael and Taylor Johnson of Downingtown; and four great-great-grandchildren; and a nephew, Robert Brokaw and his wife Carol.

Chad Christopher Long, Cape Henlopen grad
Chad Christopher Long, 25, of Lewes, died suddenly on Saturday, Sept. 13, 2008. He is the beloved son of Chris and Susan (Reeves) Long and brother of Stephanie Long, all of Lewes; beloved great-grandson of Mary R. Cole of Rehoboth Beach; beloved grandson of Dana Long of Milton; Gary and Kathy Long of Long Neck; Aaron and Nancy Reeves of Milton; Lynn and Jake Warrington of Rehoboth Beach; beloved nephew of Randy and Phyllis Long of Milton; Matt Long of Milton; Karen Reeves of Rehoboth Beach; and cousins galore.
Born Feb. 17, 1983, Chad was a true Sussex Countian. Chad never knew a stranger.
His passion for people, along with that winning smile, endeared him to all who knew him. The million dollar smile was his trademark, and with it were kind words he freely offered to everyone.
Chad graduated from Cape Henlopen High School, class of 2001. He loved the Sussex County lifestyle - the beaches, camping, good music, great food and to do all these things with Mom and Dad, Steph, grandparents, cousins and new friends - “It didn’t get much better than that.”
Chad never hesitated to give a helping hand to any family member, new friends or the ordinary people in his everyday life.
Chad was finally in his “element” working in the electronics department of the Georgetown Wal-Mart. He valued the friendships of his coworkers, the trust his new friends shared but at the top of his list was the devotion and love he had for his family, especially Mom and Dad and Steph. Family is what Chad was all about.
In Chad’s brief 25 years, he established legacy showing us how powerful a smile and a kind word can be, even life changing.
Chad was predeceased by his great-grandmother Joan Downes; great-grandmother Linda Long; and great-grandparents Edgar G. Cole Sr. and Milton Long.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 20, 2008, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, with the Rev. Keith Offen officiating. Jesse E. Spence, Dana Corp. retiree
Jesse E. Spence Sr., 73, of Millsboro, and formerly of Shoemakersville, Pa., passed away Sunday Sept. 14, 2008, at the Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia, with his family by his side.
He was the beloved husband of Mary Jane “Janie” Spence.
He was the son of the late Jesse H. Spence and Elizabeth Spence. He retired from Dana Corporation in 1992. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. Jesse was an active fisherman and woodworker and enjoyed bowling.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his mother, Elizabeth Spence; his children, Jesse E. Spence Jr. and his wife Deborah, Cheryl (Spence) Gilbert and her husband Ronald; two brothers, Harold and Gerald Spence; six grandchildren, Jesse III, April, Jason, Todd, Rachel, Jani; two great-grandchildren, Cohen and Ella.
Friends may call from 1 to 3 p.m., Saturday Sept. 20, at Jesse’s home on 62 White Pine Drive in Millsboro. A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m., Friday, Sept. 26, at the Zion United Church of Christ, Windsor Castle, 770 Zion’s Church Road, Hamburg, PA 19526. Burial will be private.

Barbara A. Purdham, owned Char-Bar store
Barbara A. “Boots” “The Godmother” Purdham, 77, of Wilmington, passed away at her residence Sunday, Sept. 14, 2008.
Born in Wilmington, Boots was the daughter of the late Greta (Veasey) and William J. Kampman Sr.
She worked as a purchaser for The Drug House on New Castle Avenue which was later bought by Smith Kline. With her husband, she owned and operated Char-Bar Collectibles in New Castle. She enjoyed Delaware Park and traveling extensively with her husband. She was also an avid flea marketer; Boots was very fond of holidays and won “Best Decorated House” in Overview Gardens many times.
In addition to her parents, Boots was predeceased by her husband, Charles R. Purdham in 2001, and her sisters, Greta “Sissy” Dolson and Venona Jean Janvier.
She is survived by her sister, Helen McCallister of Lewes; her brothers, William J. Kampmann Jr. of Wilmington and Donald J. Kampmann of Millsboro; her goddaughter, Barbara Sullivan; her caregivers, Pam Records and nephew Bill Janvier. Her nieces and nephews were like children and grandchildren to her; nieces, Kim Battaglia, Deanna Watson, Connie J. Leubecker, Denise M. Chase, Cathy McCallister and Tracy Pino; nephews, Brian and David Janvier; great nieces and great nephews, Danielle, Ian, Taylor, Emily, Andrew, Gabby, Shelby, Morgan, Megan, Brandan, Adam, Amanda, Kaitlyn, Corine, Joshua, Zachary, Taylor, Kylie, Brett, Julia and Sean; and her dog, Sue-Lyn.
Services were held at Mealey Funeral Home, Wilmington, with interment in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Wilmington.

Rosa Lee H. Mutchler, men’s store retiree
Rosa Lee H. Mutchler, 83, of Laurel, departed this life for her heavenly home on Friday, Sept. 12, 2008, at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford, following a lengthy illness.
Rosie, as she was affectionately called by her many friends and family, was born May 17, 1925, on a farm five miles west of Laurel to the late Oscar Lee and Carrie E. Hastings Holloway.
Her early years were spent growing up in the countryside near Laurel and Mardela, as well as the lower Delmarva Peninsula in Virginia. She moved into the town of Laurel as a young adult where she lived for the remainder of her life. She worked for several years prior to her marriage at the DuPont Nylon Plant in Seaford.
After many years as a homemaker she went to work in the alterations department at Phillips’ Men’s Store in Laurel, retiring in 1991 after 30 years of service. Rosie was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Laurel and the Priscilla Circle, a women’s group within the church. She also belonged to the Sussex County Chapter of the Red Hat Society. Her local group is known as the “Chatter Hatters.”
Her hobbies and interests were numerous. She particularly enjoyed crafting and was one of the many faithful women who worked tirelessly making crafts for the Christ United Methodist Women’s annual Christmas Bazaar. Reading and cooking were among her passions which can be verified by her vast collections of books and recipes. She also enjoyed gardening, bird-watching, working crossword puzzles and Sudoku. She had a keen interest in history and politics and loved to discuss the state of the nation with anyone who shared her interest. She was so looking forward to casting her ballot in the upcoming presidential election. She learned to use the computer at age 82, attesting to her inquisitive nature and her openness to new challenges.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Mutchler was predeceased by her brother, Vernon H. Holloway Sr., and three sisters, Avon Stella Holloway, Norma Jane Holloway and Ruth Anne Holloway. Her former husband, Stanley Shields Mutchler Jr. predeceased her in 1996.
Surviving her are her sons, Byron K. Mutchler and his wife Patricia of Lewes, and R. Bruce Mutchler of Laurel; four daughters and three sons-in-law also survive her, Linda White and her husband, Stephen of Middletown, Dr. Joyce Stout-Cosgrove and her husband, Dr. Martin J. Cosgrove Sr. of Seaford, Anne Petty and her husband, Robert of Memphis, Tenn. and Laura Lee Mutchler of New Castle, Pa.; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, with one more due to be born in November, also survive her. She leaves behind a nephew, Vernon H. Holloway Jr., to cherish her memory. A funeral service was held at Christ United Methodist Church, Laurel.

Michael A. Morris, enjoyed word puzzles
Michael Anthony Morris, 47, departed this life Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2008, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover.
Born March 6, 1961, he was the son of Sylvester Leon Morris Sr. and Barbara Ann Morris of Dover. Michael was educated in the Caesar Rodney School District.
He loved his family very much. He enjoyed family gatherings, and playing spades with his friends. You could always catch him doing his word puzzles.
He was preceded in death by his father, Sylvester Leon Morris Sr. and his favorite aunt, Margaret Ford.

Morris (Michael Bracey) of Hartly, Arlene Weatherspoon (Aubrey Stevenson) of Camden, Virginia Flamer (Ricky) of Dover, and Sonja Morris (Tony Bracy) of Dover; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

William R. Sine III, owned Glass Flamingo
William R. “Bill” Sine III, 67, of Lewes, died Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2008, in the Delaware Hospice Center, Milford.
Born in Sellersville, Pa., he was the son of the late Edna Butterwick Sine, who died Oct. 8, 2007, and William R. Sine Jr., who died Aug. 8, 2008.
He was a 1959 graduate of Pennridge High School, Perkasie, Pa., and a graduate of Drexel University, Philadelphia, where he studied business administration and worked at Ernst and Ernst in Philadelphia as part of the school’s co-op program during his studies. Mr. Sine also served in the U.S. Army for two years and worked at the Pentagon as part of his commitment to duty.
After his discharge in 1966, he worked at Merck, Sharpe and Dohme in West Point, Pa., for 26 years as a systems analyst. After retirement he went into business for himself, operating The Glass Flamingo specialty shop in Rehoboth Beach. Mr. Sine had always been interested in antiques and featured 1950s and art deco items.
He is survived by a son, Christopher J. Sine of Sellersville; a daughter, Melissa L. Sine of Burlington, Mass.; his former wife and devoted mother to his children, JoAnn Civial Sine of North Wales, Pa.; a sister, Mary E. Sine of Sellersville; and his best friend and caregiver, Mitchell Ryan of Rehoboth Beach. Special thanks go to Dennis Lippert of Rehoboth Beach. Bill’s loving dog, Chaquitta Louise Marie, sadly passed away the same day he did.
Bill’s memorial was held simultaneously with his father’s funeral, Aug. 15, in St. Stephen’s United Church of Christ, Perkasie, where he had been baptized and confirmed, with interment in St. Stephen’s Cemetery.

Marshal J. Ferguson, valiant U.S. Marine
Marshal Joseph Ferguson, 30, of Lewes, passed away at his home Friday, Sept. 12, 2008.
He was born in Zanesville, Ohio, and graduated from Tri-Valley High School. Marshal enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps when war was imminent in Iraq and served there as a sniper. He fought valiantly in an intense battle at Abu Ghraib Prison. Marshal also had training in surveying with the Marines and worked in that field when he was discharged.
He was currently working for Delcard Associates of Wilmington as a plumber and was helping to build the new Cape Henlopen High School. Marshal was extraordinarily gifted. He could fix just about anything. His capacity for love and laughter overwhelmed us; everyone who met him wanted to be his friend. He gave us immeasurable joy and we shall not be able to fill the void his passing has left in our lives.
Marshal was predeceased by his grandparents, Joseph and Mary Ferguson; and his grandfather, Robert Frasz. He is survived by his parents, Michael and Sharon Ferguson of Lewes; his grandmother, Hermine Frasz of Mansfield, Ohio; fiance Rebecca Walker of Lewes; her parents, Stan and Connie Walker; her sister, Tracie and Tracie’s daughter Mia; and the rest of her wonderful family; many aunts, uncles, cousins; an extensive extended family across Delmarva; and Dottie the wonder-weiner-dog.
A Catholic Blessing Service will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, Sept. 19, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes.

John Bargone Jr., retired pipe fitter
John Bargone Jr., 84, of Millsboro and formerly of Huling Cove, passed away Thursday, Sept. 18, 2008, at Renaissance Healthcare in Millsboro. He was born Jan. 15, 1924, in Philadelphia, to the late John Bargone Sr. and Mary (Pasquale) Bargone.
Mr. Bargone worked as a first-class pipe fitter at the Philadelphia Naval Yard for many years.
He is survived by one brother, Gustave and wife Joan Bargone of Secane, Pa.
A prayer service will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 25, at Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes.
Burial will be private in his family plot in Philadelphia.

Alice C. Elliott, retired head nurse
Alice Chadwick Elliott, 81, of Fredericksburg, Va., mother, nurse, wife, grandmother and caregiver to many, ascended to Heaven, Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2008, at Mary Washington Hospital.
Alice prided herself in her ability to nurture and cure throughout her career as a registered nurse. After graduating in 1948 from Wilmington Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, she worked in Delaware and then Virginia. She spent many years as a head nurse at Mary Washington Hospital and was known for her afternoon sing-alongs at the nurses’ station.
Alice never stayed still long. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. She was a past president of the Fredericksburg Senior Citizens. Other memberships include the Elks Lodge 4123, Reach for Recovery, The Red Hat Society, the Fredericksburg Garden Club, the Fredericksburg Singers, and she was a Cub Scout den mother and Girl Scout leader.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Alfred Elliott; parents, Joseph Edward Chadwick and Edna Kretzler Chadwick; a sister, Josephine Marie VanSant; and a granddaughter, Allison Rachel Taylor.
Survivors include two children, Laura Elliott Taylor and her husband, Dr. Michael Taylor of Richmond, Va., and Stephen Joseph Elliott and his wife, Wanda Elliott of Lake Monticello, Va.; a sister, Elizabeth Giovannozzi of Lewes; and four grandchildren, Wyatt Chadwick Taylor, Ashleigh Christine Elliott, Julianna Paige Elliott and Joshua Adam Elliott; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral mass was held at St. Mary Catholic Church, with entombment at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Jacob H. West Jr., retired carpenter
Jacob H. West Jr., 80, of Millsboro, passed away Sept. 19, 2008, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, Md. Jacob was born Dec. 31, 1927, to the late Jacob H. West Sr. and Lizzie Oliphant West.
Mr. West retired in January 1991 from the Union Local 2012 United Brotherhood of Joiners and Carpenters of America after many years of service as a carpenter.
Mr. West was a member of the Shiloh Community Church, Laurel. He loved fox hunting and sports, and was an avid fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies. He loved nothing more than discussing the Bible and joyously singing hymns. He was known as a great lover of seafood, especially crabs, which he enjoyed eating every Friday night at the Old Mill in Delmar. He went there as soon as they opened in March until they closed for the winter. He was well loved by many and he had an abundance of friends everywhere he went.
Mr. West was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Mitchell West in 1991; two brothers, Howard West and wife Vineyard, and Leon West; two sisters, Beatrice West, and Elizabeth Bahn and husband Ed.
He is survived by his loving wife of 11 years, Betty Baker West; two sons, Jacob H. West III and his wife Beverly of Millsboro, and William L. West and his wife Karen of Georgetown; one daughter, Betsy Ann West of Pottstown, Pa.; and a stepdaughter, Deborah L. Shockley and her husband Donald of Pittsville, Md.; one brother, Charles P. West and his wife Eleanor Lee of Gumboro; six grandchildren, Kelly, Shannon, Hank, Trevor, Justin and Jeremy; one stepgrandchild, Dana, two great-grandchildren, Lindsay and Brenn; two step-great-grandchildren, Kallie and Cody; and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be 1 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 24, at the Watson Funeral Home, 211 S. Washington St., Millsboro, where friends may call at noon. Pastor Mark Erskine will officiate.

C. Emily Burton, active church member
C. Emily Burton, 93, of Lewes, passed away peacefully Friday, Sept. 19, 2008, surrounded by her loving family.
Mrs. Burton was born Jan. 17, 1915, daughter of the late George Washington and Clara Messick Coverdale. Emily was a homemaker who was deeply devoted to her family and friends, and well known for her sense of humor and her direct manner.
She was a member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Lewes for more than 50 years, serving as a Sunday school teacher, member of the choir and member of the altar guild. Mrs. Burton was also an avid supporter of the Lewes Senior Center, Lewes Historical Society, Beebe Medical Center, Lewes Lions Club and Lewes Public Library. She was an honorary lifetime member of the Lewes Yacht Club. Emily enjoyed painting, knitting, crocheting, sailing and going to the beach.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Perry T. Burton in 1972; an infant child; and three sisters, Lillian C. Straw, Marion White and Helena Macintire. She is survived by a son, Leslie L. Burton of Sarasota, Fla.; a daughter, Carol M. Katz of Lewes; two granddaughters, Tracy (Katz) Evans and Blythe Burton-Teed, both of Lewes; a great-granddaughter, Kelsey Evans of Lewes; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A funeral service was at noon, Monday, Sept. 22, at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Lewes. Interment was at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Lewes.

Rebecca L. “Becca” Parker, of Lewes, passed away Thursday, Sept. 18, 2008, in her home. She was 37.
Becca was a graduate of Cape Henlopen High School and had worked at the Del Tech Daycare Center and most recently at Wooding’s Beach Deli.
She was dearly loved by her family.
In addition to her father, Marvin Parker, Becca was preceded in death by a brother, Lance “Bo” Parker.
She is survived by a daughter, Jade Jones; companion, Mark Jones; mother, Elana Norman Donophan of Lincoln; maternal grandmother, Loretta Mitchell of Georgetown; maternal grandfather, Earl Norman Sr. of Felton; aunt, Cynthia Hedrick-Smith of Georgetown; and uncle, Earl “Butch” Norman Jr., of Milford.

Erma J. Fawcett, loved to cook
Erma J. Fawcett, 80, of Newport, passed away Sept. 20, 2008, peacefully at Heartland Hospice House with family and friends by her side.
Erma was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She lived all her life in Delaware and enjoyed taking her family for vacations at the beach where she and her late husband, Mitchell, had a vacation home at Long Neck. Her favorite hobby was cooking and she most enjoyed having dinners at her house where everyone could gather to enjoy her cooking. She will be missed greatly.
She was predeceased by her husband, Mitchell R. Fawcett Jr.; her daughters, Michele and Debra Fawcett; and by her great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Lillian. Erma is survived by her children, Mitchell R. Fawcett Jr. and his wife Beverly of Middletown, David Fawcett and his wife Deborah of Newark, and Scott Fawcett and his wife Sharon of Long Neck; her grandchildren, David Jr., Jeffrey, Rebecca, Michael and Bradford Fawcett, Katie Carotenuto and Tracy Burns; her great-grandchildren, Jimmy, Caleb, Isabel, Elizabeth, Madelyn and Leah; and her brother, William David.

Marina Borrero Torbert, retired registered nurse
Marina Borrero Torbert of Milford, 85, died Friday, Sept. 19, 2008, at Capitol Health Care Services in Dover.
Marina was a registered nurse at Lewes Convalescent Center for several years and retired in 1982. She moved in 1951 from Brooklyn, N.Y., to Delaware and had resided with her husband in New Castle, Lewes and Milford. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Richard C. “Rick” Torbert; two sons, Terry Torbert and wife Debra of Newark, and Tom Torbert of Milton; three grandchildren, Christopher Torbert, Tracy Pellitier and Michael Torbert; and two great-grandchildren, Joshua and Regan Torbert.

Esther L. Lackman, talented quilter
Esther Lorraine Lackman, 89, of Rehoboth Beach, passed away Monday, Sept. 15, 2008, at her residence with family at her side. She was born Sept. 23, 1918, in Springfield, Mass., daughter of the late Henry W. Voudren and Grace Voudren Hannon.
Mrs. Lackman was a member of All Saints’ Episcopal Church in Rehoboth Beach and was a talented quilter for her family and friends and her church group the “Sew-Sews.” She was an avid golfer at many golf clubs around the country and most recently at the Rehoboth Beach Country Club. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Longmeadow, Mass., and the ASPCA in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Lewis R. “Rocky” Lackman Sr. in 1999; three brothers, Earl V., Herbert W. and Henry N. Voudren; and seven sisters, Ellen Stanley, Gladys Lehrer, Geneva Schmerier, Virginia Cornine, Constance Stanton, June Eccles and Unice Voudren. She is survived by her daughter, Libby G. Gibson and her husband William of Lewes; three sons, George Lackman and his wife Lois of W. Springfield, Mass., Lewis R. “Rocky” Lackman Jr. and his wife Patricia of Zebulon, N.C., and Scott L. Lackman Sr. and his wife Pamela of Orefield, Pa.; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

S. Arthur “Art” Shelley, 78, of Rehoboth Beach, passed away peacefully Thursday, Sept. 18, 2008, at his residence. Born in Altoona, Pa., Art was the son of the late Samuel and Mary Krepps Shelley.
He worked for DuPont for more than 30 years, retiring in 1985 as manager of the Records Service Division.
Art was an active member of Epworth United Methodist Church, and a member of the Chancel Choir. He was also a member of Kings Creek Country Club. Art proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War. Also, he enjoyed meeting new people and had a knack for remembering the names of all those that he met along life’s journey.
Art is survived by his devoted sweetheart and soulmate, Lois Wilson Shelley; a daughter, Vickie Fender of Wilmington; a sister, Kathleen Simpson and her husband Walter of Camp Hill, Pa.; two stepdaughters, Karen Bailey and her husband Ken Tokarz of North Andover, Mass., and Gretchen Rachko and her husband Alan of Middletown; and five grandchildren, Charla and Pierce Fender, Kira Tokarz, Allison and Olivia Rachko; nieces and nephews and many loyal friends.

Doris E. Cyr, retired office manager
Doris E. Langevin Cyr, 73, of Lewes, passed away Thursday, Sept. 18, 2008, at Delaware Hospice Center in Milford. She was born Oct. 7, 1934, in Biddeford, Maine, daughter of the late George A. and Martha L. Gleason Langevin. She spent the early part of her life in Maine. She was a graduate of Biddeford High School, class of 1952.
In 1960, Doris and her husband relocated the family to Rockville, Md., where they lived until 1995 when they moved to the beach. Doris entered the workforce as a telephone operator and left to get married and raise her children. She returned to the workforce and became an assistant manager for W. Bell and Company for about 15 years. She ultimately retired as an office manager from Elm Services in Rockville. Mrs. Cyr was a member of St. Jude The Apostle Catholic Church.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jean Paul Cyr in 2007; and her son Jay Peter Cyr and his wife Jeannie.
She is survived by two sons, James Michael Cyr and his wife Jennelle of Urbana, Md., and Dennis Padraic Cyr and his wife Kathleen of Beltsville, Md.; three daughters, Shawn Elizabeth Riggin and her husband Stephen of Columbia, Md., Anne Moira Sanders and her husband Michael of Georgetown and Deirdre Eileen Cyr of Ashburn, Va.; 17 grandchildren and their spouses, Joseph Sanders and his wife Jessica, Courtney Sanders, Sarah Sanders, Matthew Sanders, Emily Sanders, Stephen Paul Riggin, Brittany Riggin, Jason Riggin, Stephanie Perini, J.P. Cyr, Caitie Cyr, Mary Beth Cyr, Kayla Cyr, Amanda Cyr, Olivia Isner, Savannah Isner and Erica Isner; one great-grandson, Jonathan Sanders; and her sister Irene Daly of Mattapoiset, Mass.

Elizabeth Ann (Hughes) Watts, 81, of Georgetown, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2008, at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes.
Mrs. Watts was born May 14, 1927, in Philadelphia, Pa., to the late Percy and Delima (Stooms) Hughes. Mrs. Watts was blessed with the love of 10 children, to whom she meant everything. She was a devoted and selfless wife to Hubert Ernest Watts, a great mother to her girls, and inspired her boys to be true men. She was a grandmother and great-grandmother to 25 children. She was loved by all who knew her.

Clarence G. Harmon, retired from Townsend
Clarence Glento Harmon, 69, of Lewes, passed away Saturday, Sept. 27, 2008, at home. Mr. Harmon was born July 23, 1939, in Millsboro, to the late Isaac Wilson and Myrtle Sammons Harmon.
He was a sanitation supervisor at the Townsends Agriculture Food Processing Plant for 17 years. Mr. Harmon was a member of the Landmark Baptist Tabernacle in Milton and a member of the Nanticoke Indian Association in Millsboro. He loved to ride the roads and visit his family; always on the go even when he was ill he would stay on the go. He loved socializing, flea markets, auctions, yard sales and camping.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Conswella Muntz Harmon in 2004, his son, Jeffrey Harmon in 1992 and two sisters.
Mr. Harmon is survived by two sons, Clarence Harmon Jr. and wife Chantea of Millsboro, and Michael S. Harmon and wife Sharon of Millsboro; five daughters, Jessica Jackson and husband Horace of Millsboro, Glenda L. Harmon and companion Nathaniel Sturgis of Millsboro, Deanna Fonville and husband Frederick of Millsboro, Conswella E. Harmon and husband Robert T. Sr. of Millsboro, and Amy Harmon of Millsboro; three brothers, Conrad Harmon of Millsboro, Jan Harmon of Millsboro and Nelson Harmon of Georgia; five sisters, Betty Street of Lewes, Elena Street of Millsboro, Beatrice Miller of Millsboro, June Robinson of Millsboro and Lorraine Johnson of Millsboro; 23 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren; and many friends.

Susan M. Logiovino, 62, of Williamstown, N.J., died Frida,y Sept. 26, 2008, at the Kresson View Nursing Center, Voorhees, N.J. Born in Woodbury, N.J., she was the daughter of the late Richard C. and Elizabeth Marz Fritsche.

Gail Marta, family business owner
Gail Marta, 65, of Harbeson and Lakeland, Fla., passed away from cancer Friday, Sept. 5, 2008. Gail was born Nov. 9, 1942, in Wilmington, to the late Valdemar and Margaret Lundberg.
Gail was a devoted wife to her late husband John, who passed away earlier this year. She worked alongside her husband during his years as a contractor and owner of B.J. Builders. Later they ventured into the food service industry and opened the Lemon Tree Restaurant in Lewes. Finally, the couple took over the concession at Cape Henlopen State Park and named it “The Chuck Wagon.” In addition to working alongside John, Gail was a stay-at-home mother to her four children. She loved to play bingo, dance and spend time with her children and grandchildren.
Gail is survived by her sons, Tony (Beverly) and Paul (Kate); daughters, Julie Davis (Allen) and Hope Smedley (Mike); stepchildren, Angela Santucci (Michael), John Marta Jr., Cheryl Marta (Joe Rivera), and Cindy Marta; 26 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Valerie Kaiser (Dave), and Margaret Phelps; and many nieces and nephews.
