Ruth Bingham Mires, altar guild member
Ruth Bingham Mires, 82, of Georgetown, passed away suddenly at her home Thursday, Feb. 12, 2009.
She was born April 30, 1926, to Alfred and Olive Bingham of Buffalo, N.Y. While attending the Buffalo State Teachers College, she met and married her husband of 62 years, Dr. Maynard H. Mires Jr.
Ruth was active in a number of organizations, including the American Association of University Women, and was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Georgetown, where she served on the altar guild and was a frequent lay reader. She was a 1987 graduate of the University of Delaware, and was extremely proud of having completed her bachelor’s degree after having put her education on hold to raise four children.
Ruth also enjoyed travel. Early in her marriage she and her husband and firstborn lived in Bangkok, Thailand (then the Kingdom of Siam), 1950-51, and subsequently took numerous trips throughout Europe. Ruth reveled in her Irish heritage, and actually held dual citizenship with the United States of America and the Republic of Ireland.
In addition to her husband, Maynard, she is survived by son Stephen Austin Mires and his wife Vivian of Arlington, Va., son Peter Bingham Mires and his wife Kim of Laurel, daughter Martha Mires Britt and her husband Larry of Morganton, N.C., and daughter Amy Mires Poisson and her husband Gerry of Goffstown, N.H. In addition, she leaves behind a loving sister, Patricia Bingham Greenman and her husband Phil of Tucson, Ariz.; two nephews, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 14, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Pine and Academy streets in Georgetown. Burial will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 17, at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro.

Arthur DiDomenico, enjoyed music
Arthur “Art” J. DiDomenico, 40, of Newark, formerly of Millsboro, passed away Sunday, Feb. 8, 2009, at the Christiana Care Hospital in Newark.
Art enjoyed music, dancing and shooting pool, and he loved his dog.
He is survived by his roommate and companion, Richard Pearlstein; his mother, Diane Meyerson DiDomenico of Battle Creek, Mich.; his father, John R. DiDomenico of Philadelphia, Pa.; two brothers, John of Rehoboth Beach and Harry and his wife Violet of Battle Creek; aunts and uncles, John Meyerson, Arthur DiDomenico, Janelle Morton, Rosalind Morton and Daryl Meyerson.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 14, at Epworth Methodist Church, Holland Glade Road, Rehoboth Beach.

Mildred L. Turner, retired operator
Mildred D. Lawrance Turner, 98, of Millsboro, formerly of Drexel Hill, Pa., passed away Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009, at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes.
She was a retired operator for the Bell Telephone Company of Pennsylvania.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Wayne G. Lawrance in 1975; and second husband, Robert D. Turner in 1991.
She is survived by her son, Ronald G. Lawrance and his wife Connie H. Lawrance; a sister, Dorothy Brady and her husband Donald; two granddaughters, Kristy-An Ferracci and Adrienne Nickerson; grandson, John Greene; great-grandson, R. J. Crum; great-granddaughter, Ashley Nickerson; and several nieces and nephews.
Burial will be private.

Mae H. Camper Grant, foster parent
Mae H. Camper Grant, 93, of Millsboro, formerly of Pennsauken, N.J., died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2009, in Harbor Healthcare, Lewes, after a long illness.
Mae worked many years at Kings County Hospital in New York. She and her husband Robert moved to Pennsauken, N.J., where they spent many years as foster parents, rearing with love and guidance more than 75 children. Mae and Robert decided to move to Delaware in 1991, making it their dream home in the country. She was a member of the Church of God Seventh Day Pentecostal.
Mae is survived by her husband of 44 years, Robert Henry Grant; a son, Winston L. and Amelia Grant of Pennsauken, N.J.; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Joyce Grant of Pennsauken.
Services will be 11 a.m., Sunday, Feb. 15, at Millsboro Seventh Day Adventist Church, Cordrey Road. Friends may call at the church one hour prior. Arrangements by Miller Funeral Services.

Roger C. Downing Jr., Wright employee
Roger C. Downing Jr., 47, of Lewes, died Thursday, Feb. 5, 2009, in Bayhealth Medical Center in Milford after a brief illness.
Roger was born Jan. 20, 1962, in Newark, N.J., to the late Mary Bell Hubbart and Roger C. Downing Sr. He grew up in Lewes, where he spent his entire adult life. He had worked at Paramount Poultry, Perdue and Wright Chrysler Auto until his illness. His father predeceased him in October 2008.
Roger is survived by his two brothers, Diaquan and Gerome Downing of New Jersey; and three sisters, Rosa Lee Coverdale, Sharonda Thomas and Adrienne Layton, all of New Jersey.
Services will be 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 14, at Friendship Baptist Church in Lewes. Friends may call at the church two hours prior. Arrangements by Miller Funeral Services.

Herbert L. Jenkins, servant of God
Herbert L. Jenkins, born to the late Fred and Dorothy Knight Jenkins, was born Sept. 11, 1935, in Jacksonville, Fla., and went to his eternal rest Thursday, Feb. 5, 2009, after a lengthy illness in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes.
He was a faithful member and servant of God until the end. He attended Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ and was a deacon and a deacon in deed.
All the time he was sick he still took the time to encourage others about God and how good he is.
He leaves to cherish his memories his wife Mable L. Jenkins, who, other than God, was his life; three brothers-in-law, whom he called brothers, Samuel Tull (Pauline), Amos Tull (friend Margo and family), and Theodore Tull (Pete); mother-in-law, Helen Riley; a sister, Shirley Drummond (William) of Laurel; a special good, good buddy, Henry Jackson of Milford (George Ann); a very, very special friend, his Pastor James R. Johnson and First Lady Mary Johnson whom he called Mom although he was old enough to be her dad. He had an extended family of nieces, nephews, greats and great-greats.
The love of his life was John-John and the babies at the church. His church family was his life. He loved the Lord with all his heart and his favorite sayings were, “Lord have mercy,” and “Everything is going to be all right.”
Right up to the end he was praying and telling Jesus to help him. Pastor Donald was his mentor in the Lord.
When they weren’t talking about God they were talking about fishing; this was his favorite hobby other than the Eagles, Tiger Woods and the Williams Sisters. He enjoyed spending time with his fishing friends from Dover, William and Emma Green.
A visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., Monday, Feb. 16, at Watson Funeral Home, 211 S. Washington St., Millsboro. Interment will follow at Zoar Golden Acres in Bishopville, Md.
A memorial service will be held at 12:30 p.m., Monday, at Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ, Selbyville.
Bishop James Johnson, Donald Johnson and Mary Johnson will officiate.

Cheryl Lynn Rice, software engineer
Cheryl Lynn Rice, 49, of Milton, passed away Thursday, Feb. 5, 2009, at University of Pennsylvania Medical Center in Philadelphia, Pa.
Ms. Rice was born Oct. 26, 1959, in Pittsburgh, Pa., daughter of Burton Rice and Sherma (Mazer) Rice.
Ms. Rice was employed by the state of Delaware as a software engineer; she was the project leader for the Office of Management and Budget. In 2008, she was designated "Employee of the Year" in recognition of her service and many contributions to the state. Cheryl was very much at home with information technology and she was a very creative individual. She loved the color red, enjoyed gardening, fishing and the beach; she was a movie buff.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her brothers; too many friends to count; and her cat, Simon.
A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 21, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Hwy., Lewes, with Chaplain Keith Goheen officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home beginning at 6 p.m.

Kevin Paul Eichler, advertising executive
Kevin Paul Eichler, 58, of Rehoboth Beach, passed away Sunday, Feb. 8, 2009, at the Delaware Hospice Center, Milford.
He was born March 23, 1950, in Utica, N.Y., son of the late John Eichler and Mae (Lynch) Eichler of Brooklyn, N.Y.
For 25 years, Kevin worked in Manhattan as an advertising executive. He was an avid reader and was a movie buff.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by one brother. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his partner of 28 years, Michael McFaul of Rehoboth Beach; seven brothers and sisters; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service for Kevin will be scheduled at a later date. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Utica. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Enterprises Inc., Lewes.

Kenneth H. Jobes, demolition technician
Kenneth H. Jobes, 85, of Millsboro, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2009, at Delaware Hospice Center in Milford.
He had been a self-employed demolition technician. He was known as the “Gentle Wrecker” by his business associates. He was a practical joker, beloved father and a good man.
His companion of 22 years, Aliene Betts Miller of Millsboro; and one son, Kenneth R. Jobes and wife Trudy of Lawrenceville, Ga., survive him. An adopted sister, Vicky Higgins, also survives him. He leaves to cherishhis memory three grandchildren, Dara, Dana and Melissa.
Services were held at Watson Funeral Home, Millsboro, where the Rev. Ed Wilkins officiated. Interment will be private.

Ronald L. Fabiani, retired operator
Ronald Louis Fabiani of Millsboro passed away Monday, Feb. 9, 2009, at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford.
He was a member of St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church in Georgetown, Post 28 American Legion and the Marine Corps League. His motto was “Once a Marine, Always a Marine.” He was an avid fisherman and a Vietnam War veteran. He worked a short time as a Philadelphia policeman. He retired from Philadelphia Electric as a generator operator. Ron was a loving, caring husband and soul mate.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Lou and Ellen Marie McAtee Fabiani. Ron is survived by his wife of 45 years, Joyce L. Fabiani; one daughter Jamie Noel Fabiani; and one son Joshua Andrew Fabiani.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a.m., Monday, Feb. 16, at St. Michaels The Archangel Roman Catholic Church in Georgetown. Burial will be in the Delaware Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Millsboro at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 17, with Marine Corps honors.

Nelda H. Theis, retired secretary
Nelda H. Theis, 88, of Dagsboro passed away Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2009, at Coastal Hospice by the Lake in Salisbury, Md.
Nelda retired from Ametek Corporation as a secretary. She was a member of Lisbon United Methodist Church in Mt. Airy, Md., and attended Roxana Wesleyan Church in Roxana. She was a member of the Eastern Star of Glen Burnie, Md. Nelda was a warm and loving person. She spent many hours with her cat KoKo.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Labon Melvin and Naomi Thomas Harper; and her husband William Theis, who passed away in 1995. Her daughter Linda C. Vollmer and friend George Qualls and daughter Gail of Maryland survive her. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Vicki L. Downs and husband Chester of Gumboro, Bethany Milligan and husband Melvin of Gumboro, and Concetta of Maryland; and great-grandchildren, Joseph Pierce Jr., Daniel Stewart, Breanna Nelson and Melanie Milligan.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 17, at Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington St., Millsboro, where friends may call at 10 a.m. The Rev. Jay and the Rev. Carolyn Bunting will officiate. Interment will be private.
