Gargano memorial service set
There will be a memorial service for Patricia Ann Martin Gargano at 12:30 p.m., Saturday, May 16, at White’s Chapel Cemetery, Route 1, near Milton. All who loved her are welcome to attend.

Charlotte E. Transeau, loved reading
Charlotte E. Transeau, 79, of Lincoln, died Thursday, April 30, 2009, at Milford Genesis Center in Milford.
She was born May 6, 1929, at Milford Memorial Hospital, the daughter of the late Curtis W. Ennis Sr. and Blanche Baker Ennis. She was a member of Ellendale UM Church and a graduate of Milford High School class of 1947.
She worked many years as an accountant in the Milford area. She enjoyed gardening, but reading was by far her favorite pastime.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Curtis W. Ennis Jr. She is survived by her husband, Marvin Transeau of Lincoln; and two sisters, Joan Mitchell of Ellendale and Gardella Bunting of Milford; and several nieces and nephews.
Services and interment were private and held Friday, May 1. Arrangements were handled by Berry Short Funeral Home, Milford.

Anna Jane Jefferson, former nurse
Anna Jane Jefferson, 84, of Lewes, died Thursday, April 30, 2009, in Beebe Hospital after a short illness.
Anna Jane was born June 18, 1924, in Wilmington to the late Frank T. and Elizabeth J. Culver Dickerson. Jane moved from Wilmington with her family in 1938, graduated from Lewes High School in 1942, and attended Beebe School of Nursing, graduating in the class of 1945.
Jane then worked at Beebe Hospital as an OB/GYN nurse from 1952 until her retirement in 1985. She was a member of OES, St. Peter’s Church, Lewes Historical Society, Children’s Beach House and St. Peter’s Outreach Committee. Jane was predeceased by her son, Leland Lee F. Jefferson.
She is survived by her son, Donald F. and Joann Jefferson of Lewes; one grandson, Donald E. and Kym Jefferson of Milton; and four great-grandchildren, Mikala, Luke, Triston and Skylar.
Memorial services will be 1 p.m., Wednesday, May 6, at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Second Street, Lewes.

Mildred B. Warren, enjoyed traveling
Mildred B. Warren, 80, passed away Friday, May 1, 2009, at Bayhealth at Milford Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Bridgeville, the daughter of the late Howard and Alice McCoy Beebe. She was an inspector of quality control at ILC for the space program for 15 years. After retiring, she worked on the family farm raising chickens with her husband for 15 years.
She enjoyed spending time with her family, going on the pontoon boat, fishing and crabbing and spending time at her beach house. She also enjoyed traveling, listening to Alan Jackson music and watching the Orioles. When she welcomed visitors to her home, they always had to have something to eat, and she always had candy for her guests.
In addition to her parents, a sister, Barbara Townsend, preceded her in death.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Robert A. Warren; three children, Robert A. Warren Jr. of Harrington, Joyce Ann Pagden and her husband James of Lincoln, and Brenda Dantonio and her boyfriend Mike Collins of Milford; five grandchildren, Danny Warren, Henry Warren, Robert A. Warren III, Tina Hitchens and T.J. Dantonio; seven great-grandchildren, Bryce Warren, Shannon Warren, Robert A. Warren IV, Kaitlyn Warren, Khailer Hitchens, Meghan Warren and Madisyn Hitchens; one sister, Marian Vincent and her husband William; three brothers, Frank Beebe and his wife Frances Ann, Johnny Beebe and Dennis Beebe.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, May 5, in the chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Home, 119 NW Front St., Milford, where friends may call from noon to 1 p.m. Burial will be private.

Honora A. Marszalek, enjoyed golfing
Honora A. Marszalek, 70, of Millsboro, formerly of Ardsley, Pa., passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family Thursday, April 30, 2009, at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes.
Mrs. Marszalek was born in Philadelphia, Pa., daughter of the late Edward and Nora Holt Root. She enjoyed golfing, fishing and baking.
Honora is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Andrew A. Marszalek Jr.; a daughter, Jennifer Christensen and her husband Scott of Wilmington; a son, Andrew A. Marszalek III and his wife Lisa of Mechanicsburg, Pa.; a brother, James Root; two sisters, Edna McAndrew and Dorothy Oshea; five grandchildren, Veronica and Amelia Christensen and Andrew IV, Romy and Kimberly Marszalek.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, May 7, at the Long Neck Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 32013 Long Neck Road, Millsboro. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions in Honora’s name to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 15120, Chicago, IL 60693.

Elsie Beebe Swezey, active in AAUW
Elsie Beebe Swezey, 100, of Lewes, died at her residence Saturday, April 25, 2009.
She was born July 5, 1908, in Lewes, daughter of the late Dr. James Beebe Sr. and Elsie Kirkland Beebe. She was a graduate of the College of William and Mary, where she was a member of Chi Omega and also Phi Kappa Phi and Mortar Board Honorary Societies.
She was active in the American Association of University Women and served as president of both the Seaford and Wilmington branches and also of the Delaware State Division. She was made an honorary 50-year member of the Wilmington branch and the National Association.
She was active in volunteer work and served for 20 years on the board of the Delaware Lung Association, formerly the Delaware Acute Tuberculosis Society. She also served for 20 years as a trustee of the Children’s Beach House, which included a term as president. She was a guide at the Hagley Museum for 12 years.
After retiring to Lewes with her husband, she became an active member of the Beebe Hospital Auxiliary and served for two terms as its president. Her church membership was in Westminster Presbyterian Church in Rehoboth Beach.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death in November 1999 by her husband of 68 years, Frank R. Swezey; three sisters, Elizabeth Marvel, Jean Ingram and Margaret Williams, all of Lewes; and a brother, William Beebe of Malvern, Pa.
She is survived by her daughter Joan Bird-Eisenhauer and her husband Richard Eisenhauer of Lewes and Naples, Fla.; six grandchildren, Anne Fonseca of North Andover, Mass., Jane Mazerall of Lowell, Mass., Edward Bird Jr. of Matthews, N.C., John David Bird of Chanhassen, Minn., Susan Bird of Montrose, Colo., and Christine Bird of Long Beach, Calif.; eight great-grandchildren; and brothers, Dr. James Beebe Jr. of Rehoboth Beach and Allen Beebe of Windsor, Conn.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, June 30, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes. Burial will be private at Bethel Methodist Cemetery, Lewes.

Alfred J. ‘Ike’ Beam, Jr., real estate appraiser
Alfred J. “Ike” Beam Jr., 62, of Pike Creek, passed away in Christiana Hospital Thursday, April 30, 2009, surrounded by his family and friends.
Born in Chester, Pa., he was the son of Alfred J. and Shirley T. (Baumgart) Beam. During the Vietnam War, he served with the United States Marine Corp with the 1st Marine Air Wing, Marine Air Group 12 (MAG 12), Marine Air Base as (MABS 12). Later, he worked as a real estate appraiser with the state of Delaware. Ike was a member of the Soloman Lodge 36 AF & AM and past president of the Delaware chapter of the Appraisal Institute and he also served as an officer and board of directors member for Delaware Association of Appraisers.
Ike will be dearly missed by his son and daughter-in-law, Kevin M. and Aimee Beam of Milton; his parents, Ike and Shirley Beam; and his brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Margie Beam of Chichester, Pa.; his three nieces and one nephew; as well as his extended family, Earl and Barbara Heisey along with their sons, Rich and Charlie; and of course, his faithful dog Buck.
Ike’s son, Kevin, would like to thank the hospital staff for their care and support, and the extraordinary staff of the Helen Grahm Cancer Center. They are all special people, and need to know that they had an impact on Ike and his family in his last months of his life.
Friends and family are invited to visitation from 10 to 11:30 a.m., Friday, May 8, at Mealey Funeral Home, Limestone and Milltown Road, Wilmington where funeral services will begin at 11:30 a.m. Interment will follow at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.
In lieu of flowers, his family asks that contributions be made to the Helen Graham Cancer Center, 4701 Ogletown Stanton Road, Newark, DE 19713 so that other families will benefit from their care in times of need.

Beulah Pitts, housekeeper
Beulah Pitts, 95, of Frankford, passed away Saturday, May 2, 2009 at Atlantic Shores Nursing & Rehab Center in Millsboro.
She was born December 1, 1913, in Melfa, Va. to the late James and Sarah Garrison.
Mrs. Pitts was a self-employed housekeeper for many families in the area over the years. She was a member of the Antioch A.M.E. Church in Frankford. She loved her family, loved to make cakes and homemade rolls, and loved fishing. She was a great person, had a great smile and to know her was to love her.
Mrs. Pitts is survived by her daughter, Sarah S. Blake of Frankford; her sister, Caroline Carr of Salisbury, Md.; 20 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Pitts; a daughter, Lilly Mae Taylor; and four brothers, James, Arthur, Horace, and Roger Garrison.
Services will be 11 a.m., Saturday, May, 9, at the Antioch A.M.E. Church, 194 Clayton Ave., Frankford, where friends may call at 10 a.m. The Rev. Dr. James Foster will officiate. Interment will be in Antioch Cemetery, Frankford.
