G. Robert Pittard Jr., 61, of Georgetown and New York City, died unexpectedly Jan. 13, 2009.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m., Sunday May 17, at St. George’s Chapel, 20274 Beaver Dam Road, Harbeson. The family suggests contributions to the Make-a-Wish Foundation, 3411 Silverside Road, Suite 104, Wilmington, DE 19810, in lieu of flowers. Arrangements by Chandler Funeral Homes & Crematorium.

Dorothy M. Ciabattone, talented seamstress
Dorothy M. “Dot” Ciabattone, 88, died Tuesday, May 5, 2009, peacefully at her home in Milton.
Dot was born and raised in north Philadelphia, Pa., and then moved to west Philadelphia where she resided for many years before moving to Milton 41 years ago. She attended the Bok Vocational School in south Philadelphia.
Mrs. Ciabattone was a talented seamstress who was employed by Benjamin’s Clothing store in Rehoboth. She worked from home for many years as a private seamstress and enjoyed making her daughters’ clothing when they were young girls. Dot was the cook for many years for the priest at St. Edmond’s Catholic Church in Rehoboth, babysat for vacationing families in the summertime and was the night clerk at the Corner Cupboard Inn in Rehoboth. Dot was a member of the Millsboro Senior Center and a longtime parishioner of St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church in Lewes, and a member of its Sodality.
Dot enjoyed playing cards, going to the casinos with her daughter and most of all spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was the daughter of the late Wesley and Ella May Edlman Shepherd and the sister of the late Walter Shepherd, Wesley Shepherd, Florence, Ella, Elizabeth and Ida.
She was the wife of the late Hugh Ciabattone who died in 1973 and the mother of the late Anthony Ciabattone. She is survived by one son, Hughie “Chap” Ciabattone and his wife Patricia of Milton; two daughters, Dorothy Imburgia and her husband Harry of Media, Pa., and Sr. Rita Ciabattone, SSJ, of Marlton, N.J.; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A funeral Mass will be at 11:30 a.m., Monday, May 11, at St. Jude the Apostle Church, 152 Tulip Drive, Lewes, where friends may call from 9:45 to 11:30 a.m. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Milton. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.

James R. McIlvaine, Marine sergeant
Marine Sgt. James R. McIlvaine, 26, of Olney, Md., was killed during combat Thursday, April 30, 2009, in Anbar Province, Iraq. This was his second tour in the Middle East, having served earlier in Afghanistan, where he was decorated for valor in combat. He leaves a loving wife and two small children. James loved his country, his family and the U.S. Marine Corps.
He died protecting our freedom, and we will miss him dearly. James is the grandson of Jim and Brenda McIlvaine of Rehoboth Beach.

Doris B. Jones, Stockley retiree
Doris B. Jones of Georgetown passed away at Bayhealth/Milford Memorial Hospital in Milford Tuesday, May 5, 2009.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Preston and Mildred Dinges Greenwalt.
Mrs. Jones was a charge attendant at Stockley Center near Georgetown, retiring after 30 years of service. She also owned and operated the Holly Oak Day Care and was a very caring person who loved children, loved working in the yard and loved flowers.
She is survived by two sons, Wayne Beauchamp and wife Kim of Laurel, and Albert Beauchamp of Georgetown; one daughter, Jeannette Hudson and husband Rodney of Newark; a brother, Preston Greenwalt of Greenwood; a special friend, Stanley Jones; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Marvin and Victor Greenwalt.
Services will be private and at the discretion of the family.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that contributions in memory of Doris be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 30 East 33rd St., New York, NY 10016.

Kevin ‘Terry’ Lynch, retired supervisor
Kevin “Terry” Lynch, 52, of Selbyville, passed away Wednesday, April 29, 2009, at his brother’s residence in Bridgeville with his family at his side. He was born Aug. 21, 1956, in Salisbury, Md., the son of Catherine L. Daye Lynch and the late William Lynch.
Mr. Lynch retired after 30 years from the wastewater treatment plant of Ocean City, Md., where he was employed as a supervisor. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed boating, crabbing and fishing. His greatest love was spending time with his family; he was involved with their sporting activities by coaching their soccer and basketball teams and supported his children in all of their endeavors.
In addition to his mother, Catherine L. Daye Lynch of Lewes, Mr. Lynch is survived by his wife, Debbie Skibbe Lynch of Selbyville; three sons, Zackary Lynch of North Carolina and Clark and Dylan Lynch, both of Selbyville; two brothers, David Lynch of Lewes and Brian Lynch and his wife Michelle of Bridgeville; and one sister, Cate Lynch of Brooklyn, N.Y.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Enterprises Inc., Lewes.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963; or to Kevin T. Lynch Scholarship Fund, c/o PNC Bank, 1107 Coastal Highway, Fenwick Island, DE 19944.

Ann B. Slater, retired nurse
Ann B. Slater, 94, of Seaford, died Saturday, May 2, 2009, at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Slater was a nurse and retired from Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford. After retirement she became a volunteer at the hospital and received an award for the number of volunteer hours she worked.
She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church. Her husband, George R. Slater, died in 1968.
She is survived by a son, G. Barry Slater and his wife Gloria of Seaford; two daughters, Patty Purse and her husband Eric of Seaford, and Mindy Jones and her husband T. Theodore of Lewes; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren also survive her.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 6, at the Wesley United Methodist Church, Seaford. Burial was in Barratt’s Chapel Cemetery, Milford. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Wesley United Methodist, the Ann Slater Memorial Fund, 2205 Atlanta Road, Seaford, DE 19973.

Jack L. Strayer, Korean War vet
Jack L. Strayer, 76, of Millsboro, formerly of Felton, Pa., passed away Sunday, May 3, 2009, at his home.
He served with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and held the rank of staff sergeant upon his discharge.
He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Darleen M. Strayer; children, Cheryl Beaverson and her companion Mike Reinhold, Michele Strayer and her companion Billy West, David Breneman and his wife Joann; three grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
Funeral services were held at the chapel of Melson Funeral Services, Millsboro. Interment was in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Jack’s memory to Warrior Weekend, c/o American Legion Post 28, 31768 Legion Road, Millsboro, DE 19966.

Rose Hughes, day care provider
Rose Hughes, 84, of Milton, died Sunday, May 3, 2009, at Beebe Medical Center.
She is the daughter of the late Harry Magee Sr. and Mary Reynolds Magee. Mrs. Hughes was a day care provider and a homemaker. She was a seamstress for over 30 years at Milton Manufacturing. She enjoyed crafts, crocheting, knitting and sewing clothes.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Hughes; four sisters, Alice Clark, Matilda Moore, Emma Andrie and Lillie Bowden; and three brothers, Harry Jr., Charles and Albert Magee. She is survived by her sons, Tom and Eve Hughes of Milton, and Kenneth Hughes and his girlfriend, Lisa Sullivan; her son, Dylan; and one sister, Ethel Magee.
Burial and services will be private. Arrangements handled by Short Funeral Services, Milton.

Roy A. Seichepine, wastewater operator
Roy Arthur Seichepine, 63, of Felton, passed away at home recently. Mr. Seichepine was born Dec. 17, 1945, in Wilmington to the late Emil F. and Marjorie Farrar Seichepine. He was employed as a water operator/manager and a wastewater operator/manager with the city of Milford. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam era. Mr. Seichepine was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon McFarland Seichepine in 2003; and a son, Kenneth in 1977.
He is survived by four sons, Roy A. Seichepine Jr., John Seichepine and wife Eva, Rick Sumner and wife Tammy, and Brian Seichpine; two daughters, Donna Seichepine and Kimberly Sumner; three brothers, Steve Seichepine, David Seichepine, and Dennis Seichepine; one sister, Marjorie Roberts; and six grandchildren. Services will be 11 a.m., Friday, May 8, at Watson Funeral Home, 211 S. Washington St., Millsboro, where friends may call at 10 a.m. Pastor Donald Raper will officiate the service. Interment with honors will follow at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Patriots Way, Millsboro. The family requests contributions to District 4 VFW Honor Guard, c/o Atwood Timmons, PO Box 565, Millsboro, DE 19966.
