Edith H. Ross-Cochran, choir member
Edith H. Ross-Cochran, 84, of Millsboro, passed away Saturday, May 9, 2009, at Beebe Medical Center Lewes. She retired after 25 years of service as a pediatric nurse for Dr. Bertram Grossman Pediatric Associates of Norwalk, Conn. Before retiring to Millsboro, she lived on a yacht for 22 years. She had a sparkling personality, loved colorful stories, music, bongo drums, dressing up, laughing and having fun. She had been an avid golfer and a member of a bell choir. After moving to Delaware she sang in the choir at the Long Neck United Methodist Church. In her younger years she was a pilot and that is where she met her husband.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Laurence S. and Mary Hinton Ross; and her husband, Ralf W. Cochran, who passed away in 2005. She is survived by her children, Gail Cochran DeFrancesco of Norwalk, and Randie Cochran Meyer of Amherst, N. H.; grandchildren, Amy Sue Eichberger and Nikolaus Ralf Meyer; and two great-grandchildren, Raeanne Eichberger and Aelah Meyer. Services and burial will be private. George Jenkins Jr., Millsboro baby
George “Baby Roo” Jenkins Jr. born Aug. 24, 2008, went to be with the Lord Saturday, May 9, 2009. He is survived by his parents, George and Pam Jenkins; paternal grandparents Robert and Diana Jenkins; and maternal grandparents, Brad and Jane Parker; Uncle Bobby and Aunt Sarah Jenkins; cousins Riley Jenkins and Drake Foxwell; great-grandparents Albert and Edna Steele, Gerry Lingo and Donald and Evelyn Parker.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday May 13, at Watson Funeral Home 211 Washington St. Millsboro, where friends may call one hour prior. Pastor Robert Hudson will officiate. Interment will be in Cokesbury Cemetery, Georgetown.

Daniel T. Horning Jr., licensed Realtor
Dan Horning Jr., 49, of Lewes, passed away Saturday, May 9, 2009, after a long illness.
Dan grew up in Wilmington. He graduated from Alexis I. DuPont High School in Wilmington and received an associate’s degree in business from Wesley College in Dover. After several jobs in sales and construction, he became a licensed Realtor.
Dan loved the outdoors and was an accomplished fisherman and hunter, but his primary interest and greatest joy was his association with A.A. and the many loyal friends that he made there. In the fall of 2008 he was elected vice president of Dry Dock Inc., an organization affiliated with A.A., but he was unable to serve in that post due to his illness.
One of the final thoughts that Dan shared with his parents was that the last five years were the happiest of his life. He was proud of his own achievements and of those whom he helped.
Dan leaves his parents, Daniel T. Horning Sr. and Mary Ann B. Horning of Hockessin; two sisters, Sarah H. Ziegler of Frederick, Md., and her children, Ann and Christine; and Ann H. Tralka, her husband Greg and their children, Hannah and Matthew from W. Friendship, Md.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, May 23, at Cool Spring Presbyterian Church on Joseph’s Road west of Five Points just off Route 9. This small, old church was attended by ancestors of Dan’s mother’s family in the 1700s. Burial will be private.
Dan will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.

Christopher M. Abrams, auto shop manager
Christopher M. Abrams, 46, of Chestertown, Md., passed away Thursday, May 7, 2009.
Chris was born Nov. 5, 1962, in Wilmington, into a close and loving family. While still very young, his twin sisters, Vickie and Valerie were once found in his playpen playing with him as a toy doll. An avid sports fan, Chris was a baseball enthusiast from an early age. He was active in Little League baseball and diligently practiced his pitching with his dad. As a member of the American Legion Post 41 baseball team, he became a well-noted curve ball pitcher and once struck out nine batters in a tournament against then champions, Stall Post. Chris also enjoyed fishing, golfing and cars, devoting much time to his 1968 Mustang. He was a graduate of Holy Spirit Grade School and Salesianum High School. For many years, he managed the wholesale parts department at Nu-Car Chevrolet, and was most recently employed as the parts manager at Martin Dealerships. Chris loved animals and had a special love of dogs, generously caring for and finding homes for strays.
Chris will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by his mother and stepfather, Angela (Gregori) and Larry Pacelli; his father and stepmother, Alva and Linda Abrams; his sisters, Victoria Aunet and her husband Jonathan, and Valerie Aunet and her husband Jerry; his nieces, Mandie and Brittany; his nephews, Jerry III, Matthew and Jordan; his grandmothers, Elsie Pacelli, Hilda Abrams and Lois Pennington; his stepsisters, Andrea Brooks and her husband Scott, and Laura Schoch; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Chris was predeceased by his grandparents, Domenick and Concetta Gregori and Raymond Abrams.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Spirit Church, 12 Winder Road, Garfield Park at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 13. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park. Family and friends may visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 12.

Norman H. Weimann, St. Peter’s member
Norman H. Weimann, 92, a longtime resident of Lewes, died Saturday, May 9, 2009, at Silver Care Center, Cherry Hill, N.J.
Survivors include daughters Mary Holben and husband Daniel of Haddonfield, N.J., and Jane Wyatt of Bradenton, Fla.; son-in-law Marc Vorih of St. Louis, Mo.; stepchildren Ann Gonser of Greenville, Sue Ingram of Lewes, and A. Paynter Ingram of Wilmington; grandchild Renee Wyatt; nine stepgrandchildren and nine step-great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife Aldine (nee Miller) in 1980, wife Jean (nee Chapin-Ingram) in 2001 and daughter Susan Vorih in 2002.
Mr. Weimann was a member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Lewes, and former owner of Beauchamps on Second Street, Lewes.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, May 13, at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Second Street, Lewes. There will be no viewing, and burial will follow the service at St. Peter’s cemetery on Pilottown Road, Lewes.

Joan C. Wentzel, former legal secretary
Joan C. Wentzel, 70, of Rehoboth Beach, died Thursday, May 7, 2009, at Christiana Medical Center, Newark.
She was born July 30, 1938, in Upland, Pa., daughter of the late Harvey Earl and Clara Rankin Wentzel. For many years Mrs. Wentzel had been employed as a legal secretary. She was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church, Rehoboth Beach, where she served as a deacon and was in charge of the altar floral arrangements for services. As a volunteer she served with the Beebe Medical Center Auxiliary where she was a buyer for the gift shop. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society and the Village Improvement Association in Rehoboth Beach.
Survivors include her sons, Edgar A. Green III of Woodland Hills, Calif., and Gregory A. Green of Woodlyn, Pa.; three daughters, Diana L. Green of Ridley Park, Pa., Jodi L. Margadonna of Ridley Park, and Randy Ellen Green of Swarthmore, Pa.; a brother, Harvey Earl Wentzel Jr. of Everson, Pa.; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 12, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, King Charles Avenue and Laurel Street, with the Rev. Dr. Frank S. Deming Jr. officiating, where friends may call one hour prior to services in the church. Burial will be private.

Lillie M. Collins, active church member
Lillie M. Collins, 86, formerly of Union Park Gardens, died Saturday, May 9, 2009, at Christiana Hospital.
Mrs. Collins was a homemaker and a graduate of William Penn High School. Lillie was an active member of Richardson Park United Methodist Church for over 45 years and a member of the church Womens’ Society.
She was predeceased by her parents, George and Bertha Martin Hurd; her husband, Melvin S. Collins; her son-in-law, Rick Cleaver and her grandson-in-law, Cpl. Christopher Shea. Lillie will be dearly missed by her children, Joyce Toy and her husband Jerry of Wilmington, Paulette Cleaver of Lewes, Robert Collins and his wife Joyce of Newark, and Jeff Collins and his wife Phyllis of Wilmington. Also left to cherish her memory are her grandchildren, Mike Toy (Vicki), Melissa Hughes, Robbie Cleaver (Cindi), Kelly Jones (Ed), Shannon Fowler (Rob), Susan Shea, Robert Collins (Alicia), David Collins (Andrea), Alyson and Jaclyn Collins; and her 12 great-grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to visitation from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, May 13, at the Mealey Funeral Home, Limestone and Milltown roads. Services and burial will be private.

Edith Mae Pritchett, Millsboro resident
Edith Mae Pritchett, 93, of Millsboro, departed this life Thursday, May 7, 2009, at Beebe Medical Center, Lewes, after an extended illness.
She was preceded in death by her husband, the late Eldred Pritchett Sr.; one daughter, Thelma Seth; and two sons, David Pritchett Sr. and Charles Pritchett. She is survived by nine children, Daniel Pritchett of Wilmington, Elizabeth Powell of Dover, Mary Doughty of Hartly, Eldred Pritchett Jr. of Baltimore, Samuel Pritchett of Chester, Pa., Doris Norwood of Millsboro, Josephine Pritchett of Millsboro, Ethel Norwood of Millsboro, and Lowan Street-Pitt of Camden.
Services will be 1 p.m., Wednesday, May 13, in the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Cordrey Road, Millsboro, where friends may call at 11 a.m. Burial will be in the adjoining Millsboro S.D.A. Cemetery.

Thaddeus Nowakowski Sr., WW II veteran
Thaddeus E. Nowakowski Sr., 88, of Rehoboth Beach, passed away peacefully Thursday, May 7, 2009, at Milford Bayhealth Center in Milford. He was born April 18, 1921, in Wilmington, son of the late Antoni and Anna Smolka Nowakowski, who immigrated to the United States from Poland, entering through Ellis Island. Mr. Nowakowski was born and raised in Wilmington, attending St. Hedwig’s Catholic School and graduating from P.S. DuPont High School. He served with the U.S. Army Railway Battalion during World War II in both France and England. He was a stellar athlete throughout his high school, college and Army years and remained an avid sports fan during his lifetime. He formerly played in the Eastern Shore Basketball League. He worked many years as a commercial developer with Country Squire, Peddlers Village, Red Mill Farms, Fox Hollow and the Pink Pony. He was a 50-year member, a past president and past deputy district governor of the Dewey Beach Lions Club and a Melvin Jones Fellow as well as a Ralph Helm Fellow; and a lifetime member of the Rehoboth Beach VFW. He was devoted to his family and friends and will be sorely missed by all those who knew him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Janet Kavannaugh Nowakowski (1999), a son, James Brian Nowakowski and a daughter, JoAnn Nowakowski. He is survived by his five other children: Thaddeus E. Nowakowski Jr. of Rehoboth Beach, Gail Nowakowski Stenger of Milton, Carole Nowakowski Morrison of Pocomoke City, Md., Kevin Nowakowski of Vero Beach, Fla., and Bruce Anthony Nowakowski of Lewes; 10 grandchildren: Thad Nowakowski, Andy Nowakowski, Clare Nowakowski, Aric Boyd, Jeremy Boyd, Christy Betts, Natalie Crist, Frank Morrison Jr., Wendy Baird and Jamie Nowakowski; and nine great-grandchildren: Cameron Nowakowski, Lilly Nowakowski, Dylan Nowakowski, Payton Nowakowski, Alexi Nowakowski, Noah Crist, Emerson Crist, Anderson Boyd and Ian Betts; and his 90-year-old brother, William Nowakowski of Lake Wales, Fla. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 12, at St. Edmond’s Catholic Church, King Charles Avenue and Laurel Street, Rehoboth Beach, with interment to follow at Epworth Methodist Cemetery in Rehoboth Beach. Betty Jane Norman, Stockley retiree
Betty Jane Norman, 72, of Georgetown, passed away Thursday, May 7, 2009, at the Delaware Hospice Center, Milford. Betty was retired from the Stockley Center in Millsboro. She was a loving parent and enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She was predeceased by her parents, David and Virginia Huskins Riddle; and siblings, John Wayne Riddle, Dallas Riddle and Brenda Townsend. She is survived by her children, Anthony V. Littleton of Laurel, Terry Alan Littleton of Lewes, and Anita Conrad and husband Irvin of Georgetown. She is also survived by her siblings, Hazel Chasen, Vivian Legates, Yvonne Parker, Glenn Riddle, Allen Riddle, Robert Riddle, Dorothy Hudson, Cindy Riddle and Linda Ludwig. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 13, at Watson Funeral Home, 211 S. Washington St., Millsboro, where friends may call one hour prior.
