Joseph F. O’Neill Jr., retired salesman
Joseph F. O’Neill Jr., 75, of Millsboro, formerly of Wilmington, passed away Monday, June 1, 2009, at home.
Mr. O’Neill was born Jan. 28, 1934, in Wilmington, to the late Joseph F. Sr. and Winifred McElwaine O’Neill.
Mr. O’Neill was a sales representative for eastern Sussex County for Standard Distributors in Wilmington, retiring in 1995 after 40 years of service. He was a member of the Millsboro VFW ambulance crew for about 28 years.
Joe was an avid fisherman, a good family man and provider, devoted husband, wonderful father and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Barbara McQuay O’Neill, in January 2002.
He is survived by three sons, Joseph M., D. Gary, and Michael D. O’Neill; daughter, Geri O. Wagamon; three sisters, Winifred Querey, Peggy Querey, and Sharon Gatta; brother, James O’Neill; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and beloved canine Spitfire.
Services will be noon, Friday, June 5, at the Watson Funeral Home, 211 S. Washington Street, Millsboro, where friends may call one hour before. Fr. Raymond Forrester will officiate. Interment will be in Millsboro Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family asks for contributions in memory of Joe to Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963 or to the American Diabetes Association, PO Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312.

Michael F. Kordek, retired supervisor
Michael F. Kordek, 94, of Lewes, passed away Monday, June 1, 2009, at Harbor Healthcare, Lewes.
Mr. Kordek was born Sept. 9, 1914, in Baltimore, Md. to the late Frank and Roze Koziat Kordek.
He was a supervisor for Archer’s Laundry in Baltimore until his retirement. Mr. Kordek was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II; he served on the submarine Swordfish.
Mr. Kordek was the last surviving of 14 siblings. He is survived by his wife, Rose Marie Lutz Kordek; daughter, Michele Marie Marecki of Florida; sons, James P. Craig and John R. Craig Jr. of Delaware; and six grandchildren.
Services will be private. Interment will be at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro. Arrangements by Watson Funeral Home, Millsboro.

Frederick Shunick, retired nurse
Frederick Thomas “Tom” Shunick, 68, of Millsboro, formerly of Westminster, Md., and the Baltimore Inner Harbor area, passed away Friday, May 22, 2009, at Beebe Medical Center.
Mr. Shunick was born Jan. 10, 1941, in Galesburg, Ill., son of the late Frederick C. and Elizabeth Gambell Shunick.
Mr. Shunick relocated to Delaware in 2005 after 25 years in nursing and administration with the Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore. He also worked for 12 years in the AIDS unit at Johns Hopkins. Earlier in his career, he served as director of nursing at St. Mary’s Hospital, Galesburg. Tom served with the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam era and was honorably discharged with the rank of captain. Tom held a PhD in business administration, and he was a gourmet cook.
He is survived by his partner of 37 years, Calvin Hagan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brotherRobert Shunick and his sister Kay Shunick.
All services will be private. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Lewes.

Donald J. Doutt, Navy veteran
Donald J. Doutt, 79, of The Pines of Long Neck, Millsboro, and Clearwater, Fla., died Saturday, May 30, 2009, at Mease Countryside Hospital in Florida.
Mr. Doutt was born in DuBois, Pa., son of the late John M. and Helen Doutt.
He served in the U.S. Navy for four years during the Korean War.
Mr. Doutt retired from the Department of Transportation in 1991 as a senior right-of-way agent. He served as commander of the American Legion Post 17 in DuBois. Upon moving to Delaware he became an active member of Newark B.P.O. Elks Lodge 2281, holding the office of exalted ruler in 1972-73. He also served as state vice president of the Tri-State Elks Association in 1974. Donald was an ardent Blue Hen football fan for 30 years, attending all home games before moving to the Long Neck area.
Mr. Doutt was also a member of the Long Neck United Methodist Church and the Indian River Yacht Club.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Vivian; and a brother, Jack.
Donald is survived by his wife Anna R. Doutt at home; two sons, Grant Doutt of Raleigh, N.C., and Dennis J. Doutt of Pinellas Park, Fla.; a stepson, Dennis L. Smith and his wife Linda of Newark; and four grandsons, David, Matthew, Dennis Jr. and Nickalus. He is also survived by two sisters, June Wescoat of Reynoldsville, Pa., and Sally Skaggs of DuBois; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 5, at the Long Neck Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 32013 Long Neck Road, Millsboro, where friends and family may call after 11 a.m. Interment will follow at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Donald’s name to the Long Neck United Methodist Church, 32051 Long Neck Road, Millsboro, DE 19966; the Delaware Heart Association, PO Box 15120, Chicago, IL 60693; or to a charity of choice.

Don A. Bennett, retired electrician
Don A. Bennett, 82, of Millsboro passed away Friday, May 29, 2009. Don was a retired electrician. Don was a member of the American Legion Post 24, and loved working on the computer. He is preceded in death by his parents, Mark W. and Lorraine Reed Bennett. He is survived by his wife, Vera C. Bennett; sons, Mark W. Bennett, Michael Bennett, Jeffrey Bennett and Jan Bennett; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Services and burial will be private.

Robert E. Moore, former area resident
Robert E. Moore passed away Tuesday, May 12, 2009, in New York City. He would have celebrated his 62nd birthday Friday, June 5. He lived and worked in the Lewes-Rehoboth area for many years. Mr. Moore returned to New York 10 years ago.
A memorial service was held at All Angels Church in New York with interment in Morganville, N.J.

William B. Holman, federal retiree
William B. Holman, 91, of Lewes, passed away Saturday, May 30, 2009, at Harbor Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in Lewes. Mr. Holman was born May 13, 1918, in Mobridge, S.D., son of the late Edwin C. and Varena Brenner Holman.
Mr. Holman moved to Ottumwa, Iowa, where he graduated from high school and later attended the Iowa Success School, Parsons College, George Washington University and the Corkran Art Gallery. Bill retired from the U.S. government after 32 years in the field of financial management and moved to Rehoboth Beach in 1972. During his years in Washington, D.C., he was active in teaching and calling square dances and assisting foreign exchange students with housing in his home. He traveled to Europe and to South America.
Bill’s interests were fishing, skiing, art work, flower arranging, singing, gardening, collecting antique glass, playing the organ, cooking and writing poetry. He also authored a book, “Dear Teacher,” and a cookbook.
In Rehoboth Beach he was president of many organizations: Beachfield Homeowners Association, Meals on Wheels of Lewes and Rehoboth, AARP chapter 3543, National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) chapter 1690, and NARFE State Federation of Chapters. He was treasurer of the Rehoboth Art League and of its outdoor Fine Arts Show for many years. He was a member of the Lewes Men’s Chorus. He was honored with the Coast Press Person of the Year 2000 Award.
A service will be announced in the fall. Interment will be in Mobridge. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Lewes.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.

Marshall D. Lewis, retired farmer
Marshall Donoway Lewis, 76, lifelong resident of Millsboro passed away Monday, June 1, 2009, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, Md.
Marshall was predeceased by his parents, Rollie Norman and Olive Donoway Lewis; and a brother, Clifford Lewis.
He is a retired grain and poultry farmer. He was a member of the Bridgeville gun and pistol club, and St. Anne’s bowling league. He was an avid golfer and member of The Rookery in Milton. Some of his accomplishments were the Sussex Pines Golf Championship in 1970, Golfer of the Year, First Place Varmint Class, Bridgeville Rifle & Pistol Club, and bowling strikes 11 times and scored 298 in 2007.
Marshall is survived by his wife of 56 years, Eleanor E. Lewis; a sister, Deborah Digregorio of Millsboro; several nieces and nephews; cousins; extended family and friends.
A funeral service was held Thursday, June 4, at Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington St., Millsboro. Pastor Parris Sexton officiated. Interment will be in Millsboro Cemetery, Millsboro.

Donald L. Pavlik, electrical contractor
Donald L. Pavlik, 75, of Greenwood, died Sunday, May 31, 2009, at Delaware Hospice Center, Milford.
He was born in Queens, N.Y., the son of the late Emil Sr. and Gertrude Palmer Pavlik. He was an electrical contractor for Universal Electric in Sussex and Kent counties for 30 years.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Milam Pavlik; children, Terry Ralph and her husband Ivan of Lewes, Mary Plummer of Milford, and Dawn Garnett of Houston; two sisters, Anna May Smith of Milton and Helen Pavlik of Georgetown; and one brother, Emil Pavlik Jr. of Great Falls, Mont.; five grandchildren, Jessica Warner, Marla Plummer, Megan Green, Michael Garnett and Kelsey Garnett; one great-granddaughter, Tatum Reick; and one great-grandchild, which is due to be born at Christmas.
Services and burial will be at the convenience of the family. Arrangements handled by Berry-Short Funeral Home, Milford.

Jennifer S. Oliver, enjoyed painting
Jennifer Stoops Oliver, 47, of Wilmington, passed away suddenly Monday, June 1, 2009, surrounded by the love and support of her family.
Born in Wilmington Aug. 25, 1961, she was the daughter of Joseph and Shirley Wilderman of Newark and George A. Stoops of Warminster, Pa. She graduated from John Dickinson High School in 1979. Jennifer had an artist’s eye, enjoyed painting and sketching and had a flair for decorating.
She enjoyed cooking and loved the outdoors regardless of the season. She was an avid skier and looked forward to taking her annual ski trip each year. In the summer you would find her enjoying a day at the beach remembering her childhood summers spent in Bethany Beach. Her greatest enjoyment was the time she spent with her nieces and nephews on outings and family vacations.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Earl and Mildred Irelan; paternal grandmother, Evelyn Meyer; uncles Donald Irelan and Edward Webb; and cousin, David Irelan. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her brother, Jeffrey Stoops and his wife Aggie of Wellington, Fla., and their children, Andrew, Lauren, Tim and Dan; her brother, Kevin Stoops of Wilmington and his children, Ross and Caileigh; and her sister, Kim Baccino and her husband Steve of Middletown and their children, Tyler, Ryan and Alexis. In addition, she is survived by her aunts, Phyllis Fadeley and Janice Irelan, both of Rehoboth Beach, and their children and grandchildren.
A memorial service for family and Jennifer’s close friends will be held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, June 5, at Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek. Burial will be private.

Harrie G. Schimmel, retired administrator
Harrie G. Schimmel, 87, of Rehoboth Beach, formerly of Lancaster, Pa., died Sunday, May 31, 2009, at Cornwall Manor in Cornwall, Pa.
Harrie formerly lived in Camp Hill and York, Pa. He was born in Columbus, Ohio, son of the late Elmer T. and Marguerite Hutchison Schimmel and was the husband of Elizabeth Johnson Jordan Schimmel for the past 61 years.
He was a graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University where he obtained a degree in business. He also attended Ohio State University, the University of Rochester, University of Colorado, Penn State University and the University of Connecticut to further his education in the areas of hospital and business management.
His work experiences included partner in the family construction business, E.T. Schimmel & Sons in York (1946-64); controller for Cumberland County, Pa. (1960-64); financial director for St. Joseph Hospital in Lancaster (1965-74); business administrator for the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference of the United Methodist Church (1974-79); and president and CEO of Cornwall Manor (1979-89). Harrie was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church, Rehoboth Beach, and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He is survived by his wife Elizabeth, of Rehoboth Beach; two sons, Edwin T. married to Elizabeth Hart Schimmel, and Daniel J. married to Susan R. Dissington Schimmel, both of Lancaster; and a sister, Marguerite married to Dennis N. Wolf of Bethany Beach; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son, John F. Schimmel; and his brother Robert F. Schimmel.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, June 5, at Epworth United Methodist Church, 19285 Holland Glade Road. Private interment will be in the Epworth United Methodist Cemetery.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers contributions in Harrie’s memory be made to Cornwall Manor Benevolent Fund, P.O. Box 125, Cornwall, PA 17016; or to Epworth United Methodist Church.

Suzie Parker, jewelry designer
Suzie Parker, 56, passed away peacefully Saturday, May 23, 2009, in Long Island, N.Y.
She was a jewelry designer of vintage crystal, a poet and a writer.
Suzie touched many lives with her creative, loving spirit and made friends easily wherever she went.
Born in Kansas, she lived most of her life in Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y., and spent the last few summers in Rehoboth Beach visiting her sister, Olly Wolf.
She is preceded in death by her parents Warren and Audrey Parker and is the beloved sister of Olly Wolf and brother in-law Fr. Max J. Wolf; sister of Gail Von Elm and brother in-law Henry; brother of Bruce Parker; and brother of Brian Parker. She was the longtime companion to Ali Emelianoff.
She will be sorely missed by her family and all her many friends.
A memorial service will be held for her at 11 a.m., Friday, June 12, at All Saints’ Episcopal Church, 18 Olive Ave., Rehoboth Beach.
