Leonard P. Majikas, medical hypnotherapist
Leonard Patrick Majikas, LCSW, PhD, 81, of Long Neck near Millsboro, died at his home Monday evening, June 29, 2009, following a long illness.
He was a longtime resident of Bloomsburg, Pa., before moving to Delaware in March 2009. He was born in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., on Oct. 27, 1927, the only child of the late Peter and Jule Shergalis Majikas.
He graduated from GAR High School and Wilkes College, both in Wilkes-Barre. He received his master’s degree in social work from the University of Pennsylvania and his PhD from Columbia Pacific University.
Dr. Majikas served with the U.S. Army in 1946 and later served two years in the U.S. Naval Reserve.
Dr. Majikas started his local career in 1962 when he was hired as executive director by the Family Counseling and Mental Health Clinic.
Dr. Majikas was instrumental in the clinic’s expansion and remained there for 18 years. From 1980 to 1993 he was in private practice in Bloomsburg, specializing in medical hypnotherapy.
After completing a 500-hour training program, he was one of the first on the East Coast to be licensed in medical hypnotherapy. In 1993 Dr. Majikas retired and closed his private practice, only to come out of retirement immediately afterward to work at First Hospital, Wilkes-Barre, remaining there until taking a second well-deserved retirement at age 77.
Surviving are his wife, the former Joan Marie Krafchik, with whom he celebrated his 48th wedding anniversary Aug. 27, 2008; two sons, Mark Majikas, Annapolis, Md., and Jeffrey Majikas and his wife Kathleen of Sugarloaf; a daughter, Donna Majikas, Bowers Beach; and a grandson, Brandon Majikas, Sugarloaf.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Friday, July 3, in St. Columba Catholic Church, 342 Iron St., Bloomsburg. Celebrant will be the Rev. Paul R. Fisher, pastor. Interment will be in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Bear Creek Township, Luzerne County.
Friends may call from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m., Friday, July 3, at the Dean W. Kriner Inc. Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the Lions Club Leader Dogs Program c/o Benton Lions Club, P.O. Box 163, Benton, PA 17814; or to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.

Charles L. Harmon, skilled handyman
Charles L. “Charlie” Harmon, 89, of Millsboro, passed away Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at home. He was born Jan. 6, 1920, in Lewes, to the late Harvey and Helen Draine Harmon.
Mr. Harmon retired from the Indian River School District as a custodian at the Millsboro School and years ago worked as a mechanic for Kersey Motors. He was a member of the Harmony U.M. Church, Millsboro where he served in the choir and as an usher. He was a member of V.F.W. Post 10638 and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II where he served in the Tunisia, Naples-Foggia and Rome-Arne campaigns. Mr. Harmon loved manicuring his lawn, was a skilled handyman and jack of all trades that insisted “it had to be done right.”
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Yvonne Harmon, and two brothers, William and Douglas.
Charlie is survived by his wife of 34 years Edna B. Hall Harmon; two stepsons, Walter Hall, and Joseph Hall and wife Marilyn; two stepdaughters, Pamela Clark and husband Danny, and Sheree McQuate and husband Larry; a grandchild, Tina Harmon; great-grandchild, Nhiya Harmon; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, family and friends.
A service will be 1 p.m., Friday, July 3, at the Harmony U.M. Church, Route 24 east of Millsboro where friends may call at noon. The Rev. Claudia Waters will officiate.
Interment with military honors will be at the Harmony Church Cemetery near Millsboro. In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations in memory of Charlie Harmon to the Harmony U.M. Church, PO Box 1435, Millsboro, DE 19966. Arrangements by Watson Funeral Home, Millsboro.

Vincent C. Beardsley, enjoyed football
Vincent C. Beardsley, 16, of Millsboro, died Sunday, June 28, 2009.
He was born in Newark, son of Anthony Pupillo and Denise Alvarez.
Vincent enjoyed football, fishing, surfing MySpace, vacationing in North Carolina and hanging out with his friends. He was loved and respected by all.
He was preceded in death by his aunt, Francine.
He is survived by his father, Anthony Pupillo of Georgetown; his mother Denise Beardsley and stepfather James E. Beardsley III; his maternal mom-mom Marie Urban and her husband Tony; his maternal great-mom-mom Theresa Reeder; paternal grandmother Evelyn Pupillo; his girlfriend Amber; his siblings, Nick, Ashley and Summer Beardsley and Chrysti Dawson; his uncle, Chris; his aunts, Debbie, Deja, Alicia, Maryann and Tina.
A celebration of Vince’s life will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Friday, July 3, at the AMVETS Post 2 on Long Neck Road, Millsboro.
To help defray funeral expenses donations are being accepted at the AMVETS Post 2 on Long Neck Road.
Interment will be private.

Francis McBride Jr., loved baseball
Francis M. “Mac” McBride Jr., 79, of Claymont passed away Sunday, June 28, 2009, after a long illness.
Mac owned and operated the Chestnut Run Liquor Store from 1964 until his retirement in 1991. After his wife and family, baseball was his true love. He played semi-pro baseball and fast-pitch softball, umpired Little League and sponsored a softball team from 1976 through 1989. Mac was also a lifelong Philadelphia Phillies fan. He was a member of Atonement United Methodist Church, serving as an usher and a member of the advisory board. He played Santa Claus for the noted Smith family Christmas light display for 14 years. Mac proudly served his country in Korea from 1951-53. He was also an avid bowler, until his health slowed him down.
Mac will be dearly missed by his wife of 55 years, Nancy; his sons, Francis M. III and his wife Sherry of New Castle, Jack M. and his wife Terri of Milton; daughters, Eva M. Smith and her husband James of Wilmington, and Diana M. Geare of Claymont; granddaughters, Julie M. Geare, Kristina Smith and Kelley Smith; his sister, Beatrice Davidson and her husband George; and several nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Friday, July 3, at Gebhart Funeral Home, 3401 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont with interment at Gracelawn Memorial Park in New Castle.

Oliver N. Shockley II, former businessman
Oliver Neal Shockley II, of Lincoln, died Thursday, June 25, 2009, after a brief illness. Oliver attended Sussex Tech High School and graduated from Charleston Job Corps Center in Charleston, W.Va. Oliver’s hobbies included drawing, reading the Bible, video gaming, comic books, viewing movies and live wrestling. Oliver had aspirations of being a WWF superstar. He was also a very successful small businessman for several years, owning and operating a used electronics business.
Oliver was preceded in death by his father, Oliver N. Shockley I in 1985; and his maternal grandmother, Marie E. Cirwithian in 2007. He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Carol A. and Percell Parker of Lincoln; one son, Oliver N. Shockley III, at home; two daughters, Jacquetta O. and Iisha M. Shockley, both at home; two brothers, Ronierre and Grenda Cirwithian, and Tyson Merrill of Dover; two sisters, Khadjina Shockley of Milton, and Sonja and Tim Cartwright of Lincoln; and paternal grandmother, Sarah Shockley of Lincoln.
Services will be at 1 p.m., Friday, July 3, at Jesus Love Temple, South Walnut Street, Milford, where friends may call from 10 a.m. until time of service. The Rev. David Shockley will officiate. Arrangements by Miller Funeral Services.

Barbara Ann Brabson, former bank worker
Barbara Ann Brabson, 69, of near Georgetown, formerly of Claymont, passed on Monday, June 29, 2009, at the Delaware Hospice Center, Milford. Mrs. Brabson was born July 31, 1939, in Chester, Pa., to the late Harry and Rose Myrtle Speck Peters.
She enjoyed working at M&T Bank in Millsboro for 14 years. She was spirited and lively and she looked forward to “Nanna Wednesday” with her grandchildren.
Mrs. Brabson was preceded in death by her husband, Donald T. Brabson in 1994.
She is survived by a son, Jonathan D. Brabson of Georgetown; a daughter, Noel Lenhart and her husband Christopher of Georgetown; three grandchildren, Rebecca, Autumn and Christopher Jr.; her dog Shelby, and her cat Max.
Services and interment will be private and at the discretion of the family.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that contributions be made to the Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
