Jane Kathryn Bickel, Cowboys fan
Jane Kathryn Bickel, 69, of Lewes, passed away at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes Wednesday, July 29, 2009.
She was born Nov. 3, 1939, in Marcus Hook, Pa., and moved to the Lewes area with her husband Roger J. Bickel Jr. in March 2002.
Mrs. Bickel most recently had worked at the Daily Market on Lewes Beach assisting with T-shirt sales.
Prior to that time she worked at Kmart in Claymont as an appliance manager from 1977 to 1992. She then worked in food service for the Brandywine School District from 1992-2002. She was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and enjoyed fishing and going to the slots.
In addition to her husband she is survived by stepsons Wayne B. Bickel of Pennsylvania, Roger Bickel of North Carolina and Gregory B. Bickel of North Carolina; stepdaughter Robin Burns of Pennsylvania; brother Nick Catalutch of St. Louis, Mo.; sister Jennifer Crosby of New Castle; and nine step-grandchildren. She was also predeceased by a sister, Judith Church.
Funeral services with Pastor Michael Hurley officiating will be held at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes at 2 p.m., Monday, Aug. 3, where friends may call one hour prior. Burial will be private.

Wilhelmina M. Kent, retired nurse
Wilhelmina “Billie” M. Kent, 70, of Georgetown passed away Friday, June 19, 2009, at the Delaware Hospice Center, Milford. Billie was born March 2, 1939, to the late John M. and Ruby Wiles Moran in Otmann, W.Va.
She was a retired registered nurse working most recently at Atlantic Shores, formerly Millsboro Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Millsboro for 25 years. She was a member of the Seaford S.D.A. Church and also attended the Talbot Evangelistic Church in Trappe, Md.
Billie loved children, animals, to write plays for her church, to draw, to dance, to sing, and she loved to wear her many hats; her absolute passion was to take care of others.
She is survived by many who loved and adored her.
A memorial service will be 1 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 8, at the Talbot Evangelistic Church, 6099 Ocean Gateway in Trappe, where friends may call at noon. Pastor Derwyn Lowe will officiate the service.
This is a Hats Off To Grandma Billie service, so all ladies please wear a hat; hats will be made available to hatless ladies. Flowers will be received at the church from 10 a.m. to noon on the day of the service.

Kenneth Lee Reed, transport dispatcher
Kenneth Lee Reed, 63, of Milton, passed away Tuesday, July 28, 2009, at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford.
Mr. Reed was born in Milford. He worked as a dispatcher in the transportation industry for a number of years. He was a former member of the VFW Broadkiln Post 6984 in Milton.
His mother, Elizabeth Banning Reed, preceded him in death.
He is survived by his father, Clarence Reed and stepmother Nancy; a sister, Beverly White; two brothers, Jim Reed and wife Cathy, and Richard Reed and wife Karen, all of Milton.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 1, in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal St., Milton where friends may call after 1 p.m. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Milton.

Alice Adomakoh, Beebe employee
Alice Adomakoh, 49, of Milton, died suddenly Friday, July 10, 2009, at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Md. Ms. Adomakoh was born and raised in Ghana, West Africa, daughter of Joseph K. and Florence Dapaah Adomakoh.
Alice, along with her husband and children, moved to the United States five years ago. Alice worked at Beebe Medical Center in the housekeeping department. She was a devout Christian who found great solace in her daily reading of the Bible. She loved life and being involved with the Friendship United Methodist Church community. More than anything, though, she loved her husband and children, to whom she was devoted. She will be sorely missed by all those whose lives she touched.
Alice is survived by her husband, Augustine Nsiah; a daughter, Julia Serwaa; four sons, Emanuel Owusu, Augustus Nsiah, Joseph Nsiah and Michael Nsiah; three sisters, Linda Adomakoh of Virginia, Charity Adomakoh and Evelyn Adomakoh, both of Ghana; and one brother, Andrew Adomakoh of Ghana.
Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 8, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, with Pastor George Fisher officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home beginning at 9 a.m. Interment will be at Epworth Methodist Cemetery in Rehoboth Beach.

Alan C. Redford, construction VP
Alan Charles Redford, 60, of Long Point, Earleville, Md., passed peacefully Monday, July 27, 2009.
Mr. Redford was born July 9, 1949, in Mt. Vernon, N.Y., son of Marjorie Frank Redford and the late Francis Redford. He attended Mercy High School in Moriches, N.Y., and continued on to SUNY Delhi in Delhi, N.Y., to graduate with an associate’s degree in civil engineering. For the past 28 years he worked as a construction manager for Ernest DiSabatino and Son of Wilmington. During Alan’s 28 years with EDiS, as vice president, he was considered one of the company’s most significant leaders. Alan was responsible for constructing over $500 million in projects in the Maryland, Delaware and New Jersey markets. Notable projects were with the Appoquinimink School District and Capital School District, both of Delaware, and he was in the process of completing Cape Henlopen High School in Lewes. Alan will be missed by his colleagues, as he was considered a brother, father, mentor and friend. Mr. Redford also coached for the Cecilton Little League for 10 years and was a past president and current vice president of Long Point Community Association. Alan will be remembered most as a loving husband and devoted father and grandfather. Others will remember him as the wild outdoorsman and world traveler, always full of stories and adventures.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Linda Califano Redford; his mother and stepfather, Marjorie and Barry Glatt of Easton, Md.; two sons, Francis A. ‘Frank’ Redford of Earleville, Md., and Nicholas C. Redford and his wife Ryan of Charlotte, N.C.; a brother, David P. Redford and his wife Gabrielle of Annapolis, Md.; a granddaughter, Adele Redford; niece, Alexandra J. Redford; and nephew, William A. Redford.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, July 31, in St. Dennis’ Roman Catholic Church, 151 N. Main St., Galena, Md. Interment will be private,
Although his life ended too soon, his participation over the past decade with cancer research will aid in the treatment and prevention for many years to come. Mary B. Paradise, Baltimore native
Mary Bernadine “Bernie” Paradise, 73, of Lewes, formerly of Baltimore, Md., currently residing in Middletown, passed away Saturday, July 25, 2009, at Christiana Care Hospital in Newark.
She was born in Baltimore, daughter of the late John and Margaret Petty Bannon. She worked as a cashier for most of her life, and most recently was a hostess and money counter for Grotto Pizza on Long Neck Road in Millsboro. Bernie was a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary, Elks and Moose Lodge and the M.O.T. Senior Center. She has traveled extensively around the world, loved art, enjoyed painting and drawing and was an avid reader. Bernie was very outgoing and every stranger became a friend. She was a strong Irish woman with a zest for life.
Her husband, Wilfred J. Paradise Jr., preceded her in death in 1993; and a son, William Paradise in 1968. She is survived by a son, Joseph Paradise Sr., of Stafford, Va.; two daughters, Debra McLean and her husband Mark of Houston, Texas, and Dawn Rosche and her husband Michael of Middletown; a brother, William Bannon and his wife Margaret of Edgewood, Md.; a sister-in-law whom she thought of as a sister, Betty Krickbaum and her husband Tenny of Baltimore; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at noon, Friday, July 31, at the chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 32013 Long Neck Road, Millsboro, where friends may call after 11 a.m. Burial will be in Conley’s Methodist Cemetery in Lewes.

Joseph H. Limuli, former restaurateur
Joseph “Mr. Joe” H. Limuli, 94, of Rehoboth Beach, passed away Saturday, July 25, 2009, at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford. Mr. Limuli was born Aug. 16, 1914, in the Bronx, N.Y., son of the late Anthony and Rosaria Carta Limuli.
Mr. Joe spent many years living in New York and New Jersey before moving to Vero Beach, Fla. Throughout his lifetime, he owned and operated many restaurants. He retired to Delaware 25 years ago where he served as a host at the Rehoboth Beach Country Club. He was a member of St. Edmond’s Catholic Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife Celia Mele Limuli in 1994, with whom he shared 57 wonderful years of marriage; two brothers, Victor and Thomas; and two sisters, Josephine and Mary. He is survived by his daughter, Rosanne S. Faust of Lewes; a granddaughter, Carolyn Faust of Rehoboth Beach; a brother, Hugh Limuli of Wilmington, N.C.; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Lewes. Interment was private.

William W. ‘Bill’ Rogers, retired banker
William W. “Bill” Rogers, 92, of Rehoboth Beach, formerly of Dagsboro, passed away Sunday, July 26, at home. Mr. Rogers was born July 27, 1916, in Dagsboro, to the late Walter L. and Lizzie Donaway Rogers.
Mr. Rogers retired from the Wilmington Trust Company Georgetown branch as a treasurer.
He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran landing at Normandy with the “Big Red 1” as a radio operator.
Sgt. Rogers received the Bronze Star under battle conditions and was a former member of the V.F.W. He loved to fish and hunt, and he was an avid reader. Mr. Rogers was an excellent husband, loving father, and he had an incredible sense of humor to the very end.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Idella Rogers; two daughters, Bonita R. Millman and husband Terry of Rehoboth Beach and Valerie L. Bradford and husband John P. Jr. of Millsboro; three grandchildren, Jennifer E. Burgess and husband Jeff Heath, April L. McGinnis and husband Lawrence, and Heather L. Bradford; a great-grandson, Tristan McGinnis; and several nieces, nephews, and friends. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Emma Mae Joines and Reba Rogers.
Services will be 1 p.m., Friday, July 31, at the Watson Funeral Home, 211 South Washington St., Millsboro, where friends may call at noon.
The Rev. Wallace Powell will officiate the service. Interment with honors will be at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro.

George J. Bateman Jr., retired engineer
George James Bateman Jr., 87, of Rehoboth Beach, passed away Saturday, July 25, 2009, at his residence with his loved ones by his side. He was born April 18, 1922, in Pittsburgh, Pa., son of the late George James Bateman Sr. and Henrietta Stinkel Bateman.
Mr. Bateman was employed by Western Electric for 36 years, retiring in the early 1980s, as an electrical engineer specializing in high-voltage engineering. George was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He served four years with the U.S. Army during World War II, earning the rank of staff sergeant. He was a member of American Legion Post 28 as well as the Caterpillar Club. George always enjoyed walking the Cape Henlopen State Park trails, but his biggest joy in life was spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 25 years, F. Barbara Ainsworth Bateman in 2002. He is survived by his son, Charles Wesley Bradford III and his companion Lois of Harbeson; three daughters, Victoria Ellen Pragg of Rehoboth Beach, Rebeccah Lyn Crouse and her husband Jerry of Millsboro, and Janice Maria Hall and her husband Kevin of Bridgeville; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Leigh Bradford, Charles Wesley Bradford IV, Nicholas S. Tumulty, Joseph Patrick Bradford, William Keith Pragg, Gary Wayne Pragg and Adam Michael Bradford; two great-grandchildren, Ali James Bradford and Kaelan Rose Bradford; and a niece, Patty “Ray” Schmeider of Douglassville, Ga.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, July 31, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes; Chaplain Harry Hiltner will be officiating. Drew Pfarr, Cape lacrosse coach
Drew Pfarr, 27, formerly of Lewes, died Friday, July 24, 2009.
He was the beloved son of Richard and Louise Pfarr of Lewes; wonderful brother to Grey Pfarr and Anastasia Khoo; dearest brother-in-law to Michael Khoo and Stacey Grazier Pfarr; and youngest grandson to Margaret Pfarr and Grace Urnis. He was the godfather to his nephew, Oliver Pfarr.
Drew attended St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Severna Park, Md., and St. Mary’s High School in Annapolis, Md., where he excelled athletically. He received a lacrosse scholarship from Towson University and graduated in 2005. Drew went on to become a professional in major league lacrosse, playing for the Boston Cannons and Baltimore Bayhawks through 2004-07.
Drew served as assistant coach for the men’s varsity lacrosse team at Cape Henlopen High School. Drew also had a marketing career with several radiology practices in Delaware and the Baltimore/Washington area.
Drew had a great love for lacrosse, his dogs, the water, music, photography, his friends and family.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, July 31, at Taylor Funeral Home, 147 Duke of Gloucester St., Annapolis, and his life will be remembered and honored with a service at St. Mary’s Church, 109 Duke of Gloucester St., Annapolis, at 9 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 1.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be sent to one of the following charities in Drew’s name: Father Martin’s Ashley, 800 Tydings Lane, Havre de Grace, MD 21078; and Safe Haven Animal Sanctuary, P.O. Box 430, Nassau, DE 19969.

Ruben E. Satchell Sr., Milton resident
Ruben Elmer Satchell Sr., 85, of Milton, passed away at home peacefully Sunday, July 19, 2009. He was born May 23, 1924, in Exmore, Va. Memorial services were held at the Young and McPherson Funeral Home, Front Street, Seaford. Interment was private. Arrangements are being handled by Young and McPherson Funeral Home, Seaford.

Deane R. Doolen, retired dean
Deane R. Dolen, 78, of Rehoboth Beach, passed away Monday, July 27, 2009, in his home.
Deane was born in Davenport, Iowa, son of the late Glen W. and Flossie Rowland Doolen. Deane moved to Rehoboth Beach from Williamsburg, Va., in 1999. He retired as assistant dean of student affairs at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield, Ill., in 1985 after working in the field of education for 30 years. Deane served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
In addition to his parents, a sister, Mary Ann Doolen, preceded him in death. He is survived by his life partner of 42 years, Robert J. Tomlin, who wishes to convey his thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff at the Tunnell Cancer Center and Delaware Hospice; and all the family and friends who supported him during Deane’s long illness.
Services will be scheduled at a later date.

Doris B. Dorman, retired secretary
Doris B. “Dottie” Dorman of Winding Creek Village in Millsboro passed away Sunday, July 26, 2009.
Doris graduated with an associate’s degree in secretarial technology from Delaware Technical & Community College. She had worked as secretary to the superintendent of schools in Smyrna for more than 24 years and had also worked as a secretary for several law offices. She was a member of Bethesda United Methodist Church and had served as treasurer for a number of years. Doris loved to read and do crossword puzzles. She especially loved to have her family visit.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 56 years, Ernie; a daughter, Sue Uhlendorff-Wright; mother and father, Clarence and Bessie Isaacs Betts; brother, Elwood Betts; and a sister, Betty J. VanAuken. Doris is survived by a daughter, Nancy Nowak and husband Leon of Henderson, Nev.; three grandsons, Victor and Zachery Nowak, also of Henderson; Jeff Springfield and partner Sherman Springfield, of Millsboro; great-grandson, Tyler Springfield, also of Millsboro; and Gemma Serazzi and family, her foreign exchange student daughter in Chile. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Joyce Betts; brothers, Bill Betts and wife Doris, Irvin Betts and wife Nancy, Kenneth Betts and wife Linda, all of Georgetown; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 1, in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market St., Georgetown, where friends may call after 2 p.m.
Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Georgetown.
