Wilton J. Pyle Jr., retired machinist
Wilton J. Pyle Jr., 71, of Georgetown, passed away Friday, Aug. 7, 2009, in his home, with his family at his side. Wilton was born in Reading, Pa., son of the late Wilton J. Sr., and Gladys Phillips Pyle.
He was a machinist in the tool and dye industry, and had worked with Universal Machine in Stowe, Pa., for many years. Wilton enjoyed playing golf at the Green Hills Golf Course.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 51 years, Margaret McMahon Pyle; five sons and four daughters-in-law, Wilton J. III and wife Jeanine of Marietta, Ga., Troy S. and wife Jami of Woodstock, Ga., Kevin T. of Georgetown, Matthew T. and wife Sharon of Lewes, and Jonathan L. and wife Jennifer of Milford; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marilyn Maguire of New Castle.
A funeral service will be 1 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 13, in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market St., Georgetown, with visitation for family and friends after noon. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Georgetown.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mr. Pyle’s honor can be made to Georgetown Volunteer Fire Co., P.O. Box 77, Georgetown, DE 19947.

Catherine E. Hudson, former hairdresser
Catherine E. Hudson, 58, of Smyrna, passed away Friday, Aug. 7, 2009, at Pinnacle Rehabilitation Center, Smyrna. Catherine was born May 2, 1951, in New York City, N.Y.
Before her illness, she had worked as a hairdresser and enjoyed shopping and decorating. Catherine sang for the church choir and was a member of the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation. She was preceded in death by her mother, Theresa McNamara.
She is survived by her father, Cornelius M. McNamara of Charlotte Hall, Md.; two children, Timothy Hudson of Lewes and Diana Hudson of Felton; a brother, Cornelius J. McNamara and his wife Margaret of Hillsdale, N.J.; two sisters, Margaret Lundquist of Paramus, N.J., and Rita Jacobsen and her husband Torrey of Gambrills, Md.; and an extended family of nieces, nephews and friends.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 11, at the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 1 p.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 631 S. State St., Dover. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Dover.

Roland N. Anemone, carpenter
Roland N. “Sonny” Anemone, 75, of Millsboro, died Friday, Aug 7, 2009, at the Delaware Hospice Center, Milford. Mr. Anemone had worked privately as a carpenter and builder of furniture and especially wooden items for his family. He enjoyed his many trips to the casinos.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Patton Anemone; children, Jack Anemone and wife Dane of Dagsboro, Jeff Anemone and wife Jenna of Harbeson, Kevin Anemone and wife Laurie of Angola, Denise Heil and husband Mitch of Gumboro, and Mary Anemone of Millsboro; siblings, David Anemone of Arkansas, John Anemone of Florida, Paula Parasink and husband Ed of Long Neck, and Bill Anemone of Pennsylvania.; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and his stepmother, Sadie Tarnoski Anemone of Long Neck. He was predeceased by his father, Leon Francis Anemone; a son, Thomas Anemone; and siblings, Leon, Robert, Kathy and Dawn.
Prayer services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday Aug. 13, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, where friends may call one hour prior to services. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers contributions are suggested to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.

Maurice J. Parks, GM retiree
Maurice J. “Whitey” Parks, 89, of Millsboro died Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2009, at home surrounded by friends and caretakers.
Mr. Parks was born in Milford, son of the late Maurice and Jesse Johnson Parks.
His grandmother, Jennie Johnson, raised him in Houston, where he also attended Houston School.
In his early years he worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad. He retired from General Motors, Boxwood Plant in 1978 after more than 30 years. He enjoyed woodworking and loved boating, fishing and traveling.
His wife, Betty Biggins Parks, preceded him in death in 1990. He is survived by his sister, Jackie Newcomb of Redwood Valley, Calif.; a niece and nephew, both of Ukiah, Calif.; and friends and caregivers, Bob and Gloria Miller of Milton.
Graveside services were held Monday, Aug. 10, at St. George’s Chapel Cemetery, Lewes. Arrangements by Short Funeral Services, Milton.

Melissa A. Swift, bookkeeper
Melissa A. “Missy” Swift, 40, of Georgetown, went home to be with the Lord Friday, Aug. 7, 2009, at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford.
Melissa was born in Milford, daughter of William Burton Webb and Clara Ann Taylor Webb, who reside in Georgetown.
Missy worked with Omni Bank in the collections department and was the bookkeeper for their families’ business, Swift Construction.
Missy was a 1987 graduate of Sussex Central High School and attended Delaware Tech for two years, receiving her degree in the business technologies.
Melissa was very involved with her family, especially her two boys, whom she loved watching play baseball. She served as treasurer for Pop Warner and Little League in Georgetown and volunteered at the boys’ school PTA group.
She was involved with St. Paul’s U.M. Church in Laurel and the First Baptist Church in Georgetown.
In addition to her parents, Missy is survived by her husband of 16 years, Norman; two sons, Joshua Owens Swift and Jacob William Swift, both at home; a sister, Dawn Lyn Davis; paternal grandmother, Mary Catherine Rogers; maternal grandmother, Mary Moreland; mother- and father-in-law, Gordy and Betty Swift; a niece, Sara Davis; and dogs, Daisy and Jack.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, Aug. 14, at the First Baptist Church of Georgetown, 601 N. Dupont Highway, Georgetown, where friends may call after 11 a.m.
The Rev. Rod Dufour and the Rev. Donald Murray will officiate. Entombment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Millsboro.

Frances P. Logan, pioneering principal
Frances P. Logan, 80, the first female high school principal in Prince George’s County public schools, died of peritonitis and respiratory failure Wednesday, July 8, 2009, at Laurel Regional Hospital.
Mrs. Logan was named principal of Laurel High School in 1976. She was the first woman to head a high school in the county, the school system said in an award certificate years later. She held that job until she became director of career and vocational education for the Prince George’s public schools. She retired in 1992 after 38 years as a teacher, principal and administrator.
Frances Palumbo was born in Atlantic City, N.J., and grew up in Washington, D.C. She graduated from McKinley Technical High School and the old Wilson Teachers College. She received a master’s degree in education in the 1970s from what is now Bowie State University.
Mrs. Logan began teaching at St. Bernard Catholic School in the Riverdale area and St. Ambrose Catholic School in Cheverly, Md., before joining the Prince George’s school system.
Throughout her career, Mrs. Logan worked to expand educational opportunities for children and career opportunities for women and minorities. She worked on the Title IX committee and women’s commission of the county’s public schools and was a member of the National Coalition for Sex Equity in Education. In 1994, she was named by the county as one of its top 50 women of achievement.
In 2002, Mrs. Logan moved from her home of 50 years in Riverdale Park, Md., to the Riderwood Village retirement center in Silver Spring, Md., where she was a member of the resident advisory council. She also had maintained a home in Rehoboth Beach since 1979. She enjoyed playing cards and mah-jongg and was a member of Riderwood’s Resurrection Catholic Community. Her husband, Patrick H. Logan, died in 1980; and a son, Michael Logan, died in 2006.
Survivors include three sons, Lawrence Logan of Washington, Patrick Logan of Deale, Md., and Frank Logan of Edgewater, Md.; a sister, Josephine P. Fannon of Silver Spring; a brother; and 12 grandchildren.

Arthur J. Fosque Jr., poultry worker
Arthur J. Fosque Jr., 60, of Millsboro, passed away Thursday, Aug. 6, 2009, at Beebe Medical Center Lewes.
Arthur was a retired poultry worker.
He is preceded in death by his father Arthur J. Fosque Sr. and his companion Barbara Brown, who passed in March of this year.
He is survived by his mother, Arinthia Fosque of Millsboro; two children that he came to love as his own, Camika Mack, and Derrick Sturgis; three brothers, Leon Fosque, Richard Fosque and Charles Fosque, all of Millsboro; and two sisters, Georgia Coverdale of Harrington and Shirley Jolley of Georgetown.
A graveside service will be held at 12:30 p.m., Friday, Aug. 14, at St. Johns 2nd Baptist Church, Mt. Joy. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to noon at Watson Funeral Home 211 S. Washington St., Millsboro.
The Rev. Thomas Sturgis will officiate.

John A. Somori, retired draftsman
John A. Somori, 87, of Lewes, departed this earthly life Friday, Aug. 7, 2009, at home surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Somori was born in Palanka, Hungary, June 16, 1922. He escaped with his wife and son from Budapest, Hungary, shortly after the 1956 Hungarian Revolution. He arrived with his family in the United States in 1959 and settled in northern Virginia.
He worked as a draftsman for the Fairfax County Park Authority and helped design many parks and golf courses until his retirement in 1982.
Mr. Somori was a devoted husband who celebrated his 60th wedding anniversary just two months before his passing. He enjoyed music, the beach, travel and literature. His passion was classical music and he had studied for two years at the Hungarian Conservatory of Music as a classical pianist. He was a loving father who always encouraged his son to pursue his interests and dreams.
Mr. Somori is survived by his wife, Eva; his son Dr. Gabriel J. Somori and his wife Shelly; his grandson David Somori; and granddaughter Lauren Somori.
All services are private.
