Paul J. Hollenbeck, business owner
Paul J. Hollenbeck, previously of Media, now in West Chester, Pa., who fought a courageous 37-year battle with cancer, passed away peacefully Sunday, Aug. 30, 2009, surrounded by family and friends.
Paul was born April 3, 1952, in Elizabeth, N.J., son of the late Craig and Jane Hollenbeck, originally of Lansdowne, Pa. Paul grew up in the family business with his brothers. The business, originally known as Clifton Plastics Inc., Clifton Heights, Pa., later became known as Craig Technologies Inc., renamed in honor of his father. The business relocated to Seaford in 1999. Its proprietary line of precision-ground plastic balls developed by Paul’s father are sold worldwide. As a partner, Paul’s love and talent for manufacturing balls kept him busy until his health no longer allowed him to continue the daily stress of running a ball-grinding facility. To keep him active, in 2005 the brothers and partner Leo O’Hara, founded Craig Ball Sales, a distributorship of precision-ground metal, ceramic and glass balls. Through a partnership with RGP Int’l. of Milano, Italy, the partners began importing various sizes and types of balls for distribution throughout the United States.
With his transition to sales, Paul began his new career in handling internet sales transactions which rapidly grew into direct sales to original equipment manufacturers. Today, through his efforts, Craig Ball Sales is a major supplier of balls to many industries. Through his 40-plus years in the business his love for his work and family allowed him to deal with his long battle with cancer. Paul was a graduate of Lansdowne-Aldan High School.
He played as a center on the high school football team where he earned the nickname of “Yock” and also attended Delaware County Community College. As an avid sports fan, he enjoyed the occasional horse betting, but his passion was following the various national sports teams which he enjoyed with his friends, “the Untouchables,” who stood by his side to the end.
Paul is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 26 years, Denise Mastracola Hollenbeck; three brothers and their wives, David of Sarasota, Fla., Donald and Laurel of Milton, and Robert and Phyllis of Millsboro; and nieces and nephews, Alison, James, Emily, Robert Jr., and Julia.
The family wishes to thank all of the doctors and staff at the Fox Chase Cancer Hospital for their help and support to Paul. He was a one of a kind who inspired many people and will be truly missed by all. Friends and family are invited to a life celebration from 4 to 6 p.m., Friday, Sept. 4, at the Donohue Funeral Home, 1627 West Chester Pike, West Chester.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers that memorial gifts in Paul’s name be donated to the Fox Chase Cancer Center and/or the American Cancer Society, 2009 Support Our Strength Fund, Fox Chase Cancer Center, 333 Cottman Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19111.
