Evelyn Mae Conaway, Stockley retiree
Evelyn Mae Conaway, 77, of Millsboro, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2009, at home. She was born Jan. 17, 1932, in Millsboro to the late Paul E. Andrews and Annie V. Conaway. Evelyn retired from Stockley Center, state of Delaware in 1989 after 32 years of service and then she drove the van helping with the Foster Grandparents Program at Stockley Center for 10 years. She also loved working in the kitchen washing dishes, cooking beans and black-eyed peas, and baking biscuits. Miss Evelyn is survived by three brothers, Andrew Martin Conaway and wife Betty of Millsboro, Dr. James Robert Conaway and wife Barbara of Upper Marlboro, Md., and Ernest Burton Conaway of Fort Washington, Md.; one sister, Mabel Helena Conaway of Millsboro; two nieces, one nephew, four great-nieces, one great nephew, her very close friends and riding buddies, Bertha Hall and Bonnie Hatton; and a large extended family and friends. Services will be 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 17, at the Watson Funeral Home, 211 S. Washington St., Millsboro, where friends may call at 10 a.m. Pastor Sam Dennis Sr. will officiate the service. Interment will follow at the Old Field Church Cemetery, Millsboro. Mary Morgan Reinoehl, longtime waitress
Mary Morgan Reinoehl, 66, of Prospect Park, Pa., died Monday, Oct. 12, 2009. Mary was born March 10, 1943, in Chester, Pa. She was a longtime waitress at The Hollywood Grill in Fairfax. She was the wife of Frank Reinoehl of Milton; devoted mother of Frank G. Reinoehl of Aston, Pa., and Kimberly Layfield of Milton; dear sister of Patricia Morgan of Prospect Park; and also survived by three grandchildren. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her viewing at 9 a.m., Friday, Oct. 16, in the Church of St. Gabriel, Mohawk Ave., Norwood, Pa., followed by a funeral mass at 10 a.m. Interment will be private. Conaway Davis, Special Olympics coach
Conaway Davis, 49, of Milford, passed away early Friday morning, Oct. 9, 2009. He was employed at the Stockley Center in Millsboro as an activity aide with 25 years of service. Conaway’s major accomplishments consist of being a certified LPN, RN and coaching Special Olympics. In addition to working at Stockley, he served as a group counselor at CHIMES. He received his education in the Cape Henlopen School District, where he graduated in 1978. Though, quiet and soft-spoken, he was incredibly witty. Conaway’s passion for sports includes a loyalty to the Dallas Cowboys, basketball, soccer, track and attending Cape Henlopen sporting events. Conaway is survived by his parents, Elizabeth Davis of Milton, and Jerry Phillips of Georgetown; two uncles, Gerald and Richard Davis of Newport News, Va.; two aunts, Renee Wynn of New Castle and Beatrice Jones of Newark; three brothers, Doug Davis of Milford, Floyd Davis of Fayetteville, N.C., and Manuel Davis of Milton; three sisters, Cynthia Epps of Oakland, Calif., Janet Davis of Milton and Stacey Davis of Seaford; six half-brothers, Larry Johnson of Seaford, James Johnson of Dagsboro, Darnell Phillips of Lewes, Brian Phillips of Georgetown, and Jeron and Jerod Phillips of Dover; a goddaughter, Precious Niskey; his good friend Sharon Cooper; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews. A public viewing will be held at the Dickinson Chapel, Route 113 in Millsboro from 10 a.m. to noon, Friday, Oct. 16, followed by the memorial services. Interment will follow at the First Congregational Cemetery on Route 16 in Milton. The family invites friends for repast at the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ in Ellendale.
William F. Callahan, Korean War veteran
William F. “Bill” Callahan of Rehoboth Beach, formerly of Penn Acres, New Castle, died Monday, Oct. 12, 2009, at home after a long illness. Bill was born in Carlisle, Pa., to the late Fredrick W. and Sarah R. Callahan. His family moved to Wilmington, where he attended St. Paul School and graduated from Salesianum in 1947. Bill enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1947, and he was proud to serve his country in Korea at the Chosin Reservoir. He was a member of the chosen few and recipient of the Purple Heart. Upon return from the war he attended La Salle University. Bill was employed at General Motors and then Chrysler, where he worked for 34 years until his retirement in 1991. Bill enjoyed boating, golfing, traveling and being surrounded by his family and friends. He is survived by his loving wife of almost 50 years (Nov. 21), Annie. He is also survived by four devoted daughters: Susan Davis (Michael), Karen Callahan, Patricia Burns (David), and Kathleen Clark (Mark). Bill was blessed with seven grandchildren: Kristen, Brittany and Meghan Clark, Sarah and DJ Burns, and Erin and Sean Davis; his brother Paul (Lucy) and his sister Patricia Sianni; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Anna, brothers James and Don, and brother-in-law Frankie Sianni. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Brenda and Monique of Delaware Hospice and Mark Griswold for their devoted care and support over the last several months. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 17, at St. Anthony of Padua Church in Wilmington. Interment will be private at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bear. Judith S. Hall, avid reader
Judith S. Hall, 57, of Georgetown passed away Friday, Oct. 9, 2009, at Beebe Medical Center. Mrs. Hall was born in Rehoboth Beach, the daughter of the late William and Marie Handy Mitchell. She was a clerk at the Sussex County Assessment Office for the past seven years. Mrs. Hall enjoyed watching her grandchildren play ball and race go-carts, was an avid reader and also enjoyed camping. Mrs. Hall is survived by her husband of 40 years, Garney J. Hall; two children, Marty Metz and her husband Mike of Georgetown, and Jamie Hall and his fiancée Renee of Georgetown; two brothers, Robert Mitchell and his wife Nancy of Elkton, Md., and Charles Mitchell of Lincoln; six grandchildren, Ashley Metz, Morgan Sizer, Hallie Sizer, Sean Metz, G.J. Hall II and Thomas Hall; and her mother-in-law, Marian Phillips. A memorial service will be at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 20, in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 East Market St., Georgetown, where friends may call after 6 p.m. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the charity of one’s choice.
Laurie E. Kendricks, outreach coordinator
Laurie Elizabeth Puterbaugh Kendricks, 48, of Lewes, formerly of Lake Park, Fla., passed away Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009, at her residence with her family by her side. She was born Sept. 12, 1961, in Dayton, Ohio, daughter of the late Bruce Puterbaugh and Barbara Brower Puterbaugh of Lewes. Ms. Kendricks grew up in Pottstown, Pa., graduating from Pottstown High School. Prior to becoming ill, she had worked for 10 years in Lake Park as an outreach coordinator for the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. She lived life to its fullest and loved the beach. In addition to her mother, she is survived by her daughter, Ashley Guerrero of West Palm Beach, Fla.; her son, Anthony Guerrero of West Palm Beach; and her brother, John Puterbaugh of Lewes. All services are private. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Lewes.

Katherine T. Greene, 80, died Thursday, Oct. 8, 2009. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, Oct. 16, and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 17, at Friendship Baptist Church, Lewes, with the service immediately after and burial in the church cemetery. Blake Allen Wilkins, infant son
Blake Allen Wilkins, infant son of Mark Wilkins and Erica Browning Wilkins, passed away Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009, at Beebe Medical Center. He was preceded in death by his paternal great-grandfather, Lawrence Wilkins; paternal great-grandmother, Stella Stalnecker; and maternal great-grandmother, Myrtle Rust. Besides his parents, he is survived by a brother, Mark Wilkins Jr.; maternal grandparents, Denise Browning, and Glen Browning and his wife Sharon; paternal grandparents, Keith and Kathey Wilkins; paternal great-grandparent, Jane Lynn Wilkins; and maternal great-grandparents, Hal and Ellie Browning, and Nell Browning; as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins. Graveside services will be 10 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 15, at Conley’s Chapel Cemetery, Lewes. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to defray funeral expenses.
Robert Everett Watson, noted athlete
Robert Everett Watson, born Nov. 12, 1939, in Portsmouth, N.H., died Monday, Oct. 12, 2009. He is survived by his dear wife of 49 years, Sonja Watson; daughters, Robin and David Macken, and April and John Smitheman; and son, James and Maria Watson. Born in a large family, he was the youngest of 13 born to John and Julia. He was a member of the notorious Puddle Dock crew of Portsmouth. His athletic career began while in school where he made the all-state track team. He excelled in basketball and baseball in high school and played minor league baseball for the Boston Red Sox. In 1958, Bob entered the Army forces and continued his love for athletics where he played basketball and baseball for the U.S. Army until 1962. While stationed in Berlin, Germany, Bob met his future wife, Sonja Ostenson of Woodbury, N.J. After leaving the Army they resided in Sonja’s hometown of Woodbury. He continued his love for sports, joining a fast-pitch hardball league and becoming a member of the Ivy Inn team in Deptford, N.J. After leaving Woodbury they moved to Pitman, N.J., where he enjoyed coaching little league and Babe Ruth baseball for 14 years. He loved taking many vacations with close friends to Rangeley, Maine, and the Jersey shore. Bob worked for Texaco and the Coastal Eagle Point Plant in West Deptford, N.J., for 25 years until his retirement. It was there that he began his involvement with the United Way of Gloucester County and eventually became the plant’s campaign chairman. Retired at 55, he moved to Millsboro, where he and his wife enjoyed fishing and crabbing on their boat, the Penguin, for the last 14 years. It was there where they made many friends and where Bob met daily with the “men’s coffee club” at the neighborhood store. Bob was well known for his love of people and willingly served them whenever possible. With an outgoing personality, he was well liked by everyone who met him. He was passionate about life and enjoyed making people laugh. His greatest love was his wife. He was an active member of the American Legion Post 28 in Millsboro. Bob always looked forward to spending time with his seven grandchildren and was the beloved Pop-pop of Sarah, Katie and Ashley Macken, Jared and Grace Watson, Tiffany and John Jr. Smitheman and one great-grandson, Jayden Watson. Visitation will be from 9 a.m., Friday, Oct. 16, until the service at 11:30 a.m. at the Davis & Wagner Funeral & Cremation Services, 171 Delaware St. Woodbury, N.J.
