Roadrunner softball team wins Region 19
The Delaware Tech Roadrunners softball team won the Region 19 championship title during a tournament played May 3-5, at the Georgetown campus. The Roadrunners won the first game against Orange County Community College out of Middletown, N.Y., 7-0, powered by the strong pitching of Erin Tingle (Laurel) who tossed a no-hitter. They also won the second game 5-0 behind the arm of Chelsea Walls (Milford) who pitched a four-hit shutout. The Roadrunners will travel to Bloomington, Ill. on Thursday, May 15, for the NJCAA Division II Fast Pitch Softball World Series.

Blue-White All-Star soccer game set June 3
The 14th Annual Blue-White Senior Girls All-Star soccer game benefiting CHILD Inc.’s Runaway and Homeless Youth Program will be played at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 3, at the Wesley College’s Wolverine Stadium in Dover. The game will feature 50 of Delaware’s top high school senior girl soccer players.
Blue-White Inc. is a nonprofit corporation whose mission is to raise funds to assist abused, neglected and dependent children and their families on the Delmarva Peninsula. The Blue-White board of directors hosts the annual Senior High School All-Star Games to benefit and assist these children and youth in need. The concession stand will be open for refreshments. Admission is $6 for adults and $4 for students. Blue-Gold All-Star football game set
The 2008 DFRC Blue-Gold All-Star football game will be played at the University of Delaware’s football stadium in Newark on Saturday, June 21.
General admission tickets cost $8 and are available from all Delaware Lions Club members, or by calling the DFRC office at 302-454-2730. In May, general admission tickets will also be available at all Grotto Pizza locations in Delaware.

Baseball Skills Showcase set in June
The Sussex County Sports Foundation will host the Delmarva Baseball Skills Showcase for area high school players to showcase their skills in front of college coaches. The event will be held Saturday, June 14, on the baseball fields at Sussex Technical High School on Route 9 about five miles west of Georgetown. There will be a morning session from 9 a.m. to noon and an afternoon session 1-4 p.m.
Only the first 50 players to register will be accepted; registrations may be made until June 1, by calling the foundation at 644-7777, or by email to info.box@scsportsfoundation.com. Cost is $150 per player per session, or $300 to attend both sessions.

St. Jude Golf Classic set for May 30 at Marsh Island Club
St. Jude the Apostle Parish will hold its Golf Classic on Friday, May 30, at the Marsh Island Golf Club on Camp Arrowhead Road in Angola. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. for a fee of $75 per player that includes golf cart, coffee and donuts, lunch at the Parish Life Center and prizes. There will also be a silent auction during the event. Early registration is suggested. For more information and to register, call co-chairmen Jack Smith at 644-4187 or Dave Johnson at 684-3545. Checks can be sent in advance payable to St. Jude the Apostle Church to Bill Papa, 204 Marina Drive, Lewes, DE 19958. Include the names of all players for contact purposes.

Tournament May 19 to benefit state’s association for blind
To raise money for its summer camp for blind children, the Delaware Association for the Blind will hold its fourth annual golf tournament Monday, May 19, at the Back Creek Golf Course in Middletown. Registration begins at 11 a.m. followed by a shotgun start at noon. The $125 entry fee includes golf cart, box lunch and an awards barbecue at the conclusion of the event. Celebrities to turn out for Horsey Golf Classic May 21
The Annual Horsey Family Youth Foundation Celebrity Golf Classic will take place Wednesday and Thursday, May 21 and 22, at the Heritage Shores Golf and Country Club in Bridgeville. All of the proceeds from the classic will benefit the Horsey Family Youth Foundation. This year the headliners of the event will be University of Delaware head football coach K.C. Keeler, Baseball Hall of Famer Brooks Robinson of the Baltimore Orioles and Anita Marks from MASN sports broadcasting. Each team will be paired up with a celebrity to enjoy a round of golf on a challenging course provided by Heritage Shores. The festivities will commence at 6 p.m., May 21, with a meet and greet of the celebrities in the Heritage Shores ballroom. After the cocktail hour, a dinner will be served to all golf teams and anyone wanting to purchase a ticket for dinner. A live auction of sports memorabilia items will be held. On May 22, everyone will hit the links to enjoy a day of golf. There will be food served on the course and plenty of refreshments while playing. There will be prizes given away, a putting contest to test players’ skills and a longest drive contest. The HFYF Celebrity Golf Classic benefits the Horsey Family Youth Foundation, which serves the youth of Delaware in education and athletic programs. Classic at Baywood Greens tourney slated June 4
The Classic at Baywood Greens Golf Tournament will be held on Wednesday, June 4, at Baywood Greens, Long Neck. The event will raise funds for the Tunnell Cancer Center. Many sponsorships exist, and the entry fee of $175 per player includes greens fees, warm-up, contests, golf cart, GPS, breakfast, lunch, on-course refreshments, gifts, door prizes and awards. Par for Pets Charity Golf Outing slated June 13
Sponsors and players can sign up now for Debbie’s Fund’s Friday, June 13 “Par For Pets Charity Golf Outing” at Jonathan’s Landing in Magnolia. Proceeds will benefit area animal shelters. Four-player teams will compete in a best ball 18-hole round. For $300 a four-player team gets greens fees, refreshments and lunch. Organizers are also inviting hole sponsors to participate for $100. Debbie’s Fund is part of Debra L. Sipple Memorial Inc., a Delaware nonprofit charity providing assistance to Delaware animal welfare groups.
