The Cape Henlopen soccer team is off to its best start in school history after victories over Polytech (7-), Milford (2-1) and Smyrna (2-0).
That is all good news, but adversity is also camped at the Vikings doorstep as super sophs Tom Grogan and Mike Shook are out for the season with injury and ailment.
"I dont think weve been playing that well lately," said goalie Steve Fabian. "I guess well find out what were all about we travel to Indian River (on Thursday, Oct. 9 - too late to report for this edition).
Cape got their freak on against the Panthers of Polytech scoring seven goals including two by Mike Shook, one each from the Gaffney brothers Connor and Nat, along with single goals by Coi Evans, Corey Schab and John Zacharias.
Last Saturday Cape escaped a solid Milford team 2-1 behind goals from Evans and Brandon Clark.
Last Tuesday, in the 2-0 win over Smyrna, Alex Guardina scored both goals while Steve Fabian was only tested four times.
Nick Albanese has taken on increased responsibilities at center midfield after the loss of Grogen and Shook.
"We are ready for the challenge of the big games," said Connor Gaffney.
