Cape road warriors post 8-4 win over Tatnall

By Dave Frederick

Nine in a row for the road team in the state’s longest-running scholastic lacrosse rivalry.

Last Friday, April 18, Cape Henlopen, with most of the attackmen sick as dogs, broke open a game tied at the half with each team scoring three goals and went on to outscore the Tatnall Hornets 5-1 in the second half to earn the 8-4 victory.

“We played hard and were playing well, in control 3-1 with a minute left in the half when we turned the ball over and gave up a pair of goals,” said Cape head coach Mark D’Ambrogi.

“And with guys sick other players responded. I know Tatnall scored four goals against Sallies and that’s the team everyone is chasing. We are working to close the gap and I think we are.”

Daniel Steele got his game going leading the Vikings with three goals. Single goals were scored by Rory Rogan, Scott Brozey, Ian Stewart, Kyle Norwood and Chris Woodruff.

Alden Nelson recorded two assists.

Tatnall outshot Cape 31-24. Viking goalie Franc Cook was credited with 15 saves.
In another important Saturday game, Salesianum on the road at Caesar Rodney defeated CR 20-6.

The Vikings were scheduled to host Lowell, Mass., on Monday, April 21, before playing at Dover Wednesday, April 23, then hosting St. Mark’s at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, April 26.
