Cape girls lacrosse team runs past Archmere 19-2

“It could be worse; it could be raining.”
- Igor in “Young Frankenstein”

The new surf and turf field at Legends Stadium takes care of the feet, but where’s the dome? A heavy and relentless rain descended upon the metropolis last Monday night, April 26, but the only thunder was the Cape offense on Archmere like a preshrunk uniform.

A lightning-fast start led to a 14-1 halftime lead and long before the game was over Cape was priming the pump for Saturday’s showdown against visiting St. Andrew’s, a team the Lady Vikings have never beaten.

Caroline Judge, beginning to feel it in the center of the field, pushed the action scoring five goals while Lillie Lingo scored four. The rest of the scoring parade included Kaci Coveleski and Katie Yeager with 2, while Raelynn Grogan, Alec Perry, Allison Young, Hilary Merlo, Maura Johnson and Claire Kalb all scored one goal each.

Leigh Ann Redefer stopped nine shots in goal.

Cape improved to 9-1 on the season and faces St. Andrew’s at 5 p.m. Saturday, May 3, at Legends Stadium.

NOTES – St. Mark’s beat Tower Hill April 29, 11-10, behind five goals from Courtney Schweitzer. Cape beat St. Mark’s 8-7 in the first game of the season.
